One subject that regularly gets brought up from skeptics, seekers and Christians alike is the subject of slavery. Does the Bible endorse slavery? What is the context of the many Old and New Testament passages that speak of slavery? How do the Biblical slavery laws compare with the slavery laws that were enforced in the nations around Israel? How does the overarching narrative of the Bible speak to the subject of slavery? How can Christians competently answer those who bring up this issue?

The Portage church of Christ is a group of pre-denominational Christians that are striving to serve the Lord together. Our goal is to please God, and we believe that the best way to do that is to follow the pattern that was established by the churches in the first century and revealed in the New Testament. We have no creed or doctrine except the Bible and we follow the Bible only. We strive for unity in the teaching of New Testament doctrine. Our congregation is not part of, or subject to, any larger man-made religious organization. We are a completely autonomous congregation. We are locally governed, just as the church in the first century was. How does one becomes a member of this church congregation? The exact same way as seen in the Biblical accounts. On the day of Pentecost following Jesus' resurrection, people who repented and were baptized were saved (Acts 2:38) and the saved were added to the church (Acts 2:47). These saved people were members of the body, or church (Colossians 1:18). To become a Christian, the Bible teaches: Hear the gospel (Rom. 10:17) Believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God (John 8:24, 58, Heb. 11:6) Repent of past sins (Luke 13:3, 5) Confess Jesus as Lord (Matt. 10:32-33, Rom. 10:9-10) Be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16) Remain Faithful to Christ (Rev. 2:10, 2 Tim 4:7-8)
Throughout the Gospels, we see Jesus encountering women from very different backgrounds—some broken by sin, some weighed down by shame, and others overlooked by society. Yet in every encounter, Jesus responds not with condemnation, but with truth, compassion, and life-changing mercy. Tamar walks us through the stories of six women who met Jesus face to face and experienced His transforming grace. Together we discuss what these encounters reveal about the heart of Christ, the power of repentance, and how Jesus still meets us today in our own places of need. If you've ever wondered whether God's mercy is really big enough for your past, your struggles, or your doubts, this conversation will remind you of the hope found in Christ. In this episode we discuss: The women in Scripture who personally encountered Jesus What their stories reveal about the character of Christ The difference between cultural empowerment and biblical redemption Why Jesus' mercy is both compassionate and transformative Tamar Miller Website Find Shanda www.shandafulbright.com Instagram & Facebook: @shandafulbright Email: hello@shandafulbright.com Free Resources: https://shandafulbright.com/links YouTube: http://bit.ly/ShandaYT2021 Store: www.Shandafulbright.com/shop

Send us a textGuest: Todd Friel, host Wretched TV and Radio ProgramsThere are many fiery situations in the world right now. In Iran, millions have been on the streets protesting with thousands killed by the Shia Islamist regime led by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is on the brink of being ousted due to economic decline and repressive rule. This situation has significant ramifications for stability in the Middle East and even the end times. Here in my home state of Minnesota, violent confrontations continue against ICE agents by protesters and paid agitators and rioters, as agents search for and arrest illegal immigrants. President Trump has stated he is considering employing the Insurrection Act to use military force to quell the obstruction and violence which has been incited by MN Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. There are other fires—in Venezuela after the U.S. captured their Communist narco-terrorist president Nicolas Maduro; in England and Australia which are threatening and arresting their own citizens for social media content against Islam; in Ukraine where the intractable, deadly war with Russia continues. And yet all these fires at home and abroad are far less significant and lasting than what the Bible describes as the “unquenchable fire” of hell.Hell is an issue that is almost unspeakable, and rightly so, because of the horror of what it is—eternal conscious torment for all who have rejected God by not believing in His Son's substitutionary death and resurrection on the sinner's behalf. In fact, the final destination for non-believers is described this way in Revelation 20: “if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”Because hell is so horrific and never ending, there are many who question God's character in sending people there. They say, “I know sin offends the holy God, but punishment for eternity in hell is disproportionate to the crime.”Kirk Cameron, actor and Christian influencer and author, who has worked and associated with many sound Christians like Ray Comfort, Ken Ham, and John MacArthur, announced on his podcast recently that he no longer believes that hell is eternal conscious torment but rather that an unbeliever is eventually annihilated. In other words, unbelievers do go to hell for punishment but at some point they go out of existence. This is certainly not the first time the eternality of hell has been challenged and it won't be the last. Todd Friel, pastor of Alpharetta Bible Church in Georgia and host of Wretched, which produces radio and TV programs, joins us this weekend to examine what the Bible teaches about hell. Is hell being eternal an important doctrine to stand firm on? Is there a biblical basis that unbelievers are annihilated in hell, in light of what Jesus said in John 10, “fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell”?We hope you join us for this important discussion.

Does the Bible REALLY Teach Young Earth Creation and a Global Flood? In this compelling episode of Worldview Legacy, Joel Settecase tackles one of the most hotly debated theological and scientific questions of our time: Does the Bible actually teach a young Earth and a global flood?Kicking off with a current event from Arkansas, Joel shares a powerful victory for religious freedom, where a Christian student stood up for his right to share the gospel and won. This story sets the tone for the rest of the episode—courage, clarity, and conviction in the face of cultural pushback. Then Joel dives into the heart of the discussion: the biblical case for a young Earth and a literal, global flood. He unpacks the genealogies in Genesis 5 and 11, explains why the biblical record is more trustworthy than ancient pagan texts like the Sumerian Kings List, and walks through multiple Old and New Testament passages that support a global deluge and early creation of mankind. He addresses key objections and counters the idea that the biblical authors borrowed from pagan mythology. Instead, Joel makes a strong case that Scripture gives us an authoritative, historical record of God's creative and redemptive work—starting from the very beginning. Finally, Joel highlights how the biblical worldview gives us not just a true history, but a foundation for confidence, boldness, and mission today.Topics:01:00 – Religious Liberty Victory in Arkansas12:00 – The Sumerian King List vs. Genesis Genealogies30:00 – Did Noah's Flood Really Happen?44:00 – Does the Bible Teach a Young Earth?54:00 – Comments, Wrap-up & Teaser for Future Topics55:00 – Call to ActionTake ActionAre you a Christian man who wants to lead your family, answer tough questions, and build a legacy rooted in God's Word? Welcome to SC Church Podcast! We're so glad you could join us. Today Pastor Denny Duron shared with us his message:“Strength From Within: What Does The Bible Teach About Fasting?"
Nothing like jumping into a hot one, but that’s our topic this week: What does the Bible Teach About Gender Roles? We live in a culture that is deeply divided and greatly confused, not just about gender roles, but even the existence of gender. As we look into the grand story of the Bible, the Scriptures paint a beautiful picture that affirms the full and beautiful equality of every human being as a person made in the image of God, of equal worth before Him and an equal partner in the creation mandate given in Genesis 1 & 2. On the other hand, the story also affirms the goodness of gender, God creating His image bearers as male and female, and therefore, different biologically and emotionally, and having different roles in the home and the church. Today we will explain a theological position called “Complementarianism” which seeks to affirm both the equality and differences of the two genders. And we will share that the path to our flourishing as individuals, families, churches, and communities happens when we rightly understand how the Bible defines our humanity and we seek to submit to His purpose and will for our lives.
What does the Bible say about the Trinity / Triunity? Is the doctrine of the Trinity found in the Bible? How is the trinity not tritheism?
The early Pietists were influenced by Gnostic dualistic ideas of the ancient Greeks. All Greek thought was essentially dualistic, but Gnosticism was radically Platonic and became a thorn in the side of the church in its early centuries. Its influence continued in one way or another in Western thought through the Middle Ages eventually affecting the worldview of those who became Pietists.Watch all of our videos and subscribe to our channel for the latest content >HereHere

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: In celebration of International Women’s Day, a time to honor the achievements and contributions of women across the globe, this episode of Your Hope-Filled Perspective shines a light on some of the most inspiring women in the Bible. From Leah’s resilience in the face of rejection to Deborah’s fearless leadership, these women modeled faith and hope that transcend time and culture. As we explore their lives, we are reminded that the greatest advocate for equality and empowerment is Jesus, whose grace offers freedom to live courageously and faithfully. Join me with Rev. Jessica Van Roekel as we reflect on these timeless examples of strength and hope, and learn how they inspire us to live with faith and purpose today. Quotables from the episode: The greatest proponent of equality is Jesus, and we can only know the kind of freedom he brings when we receive his saving grace and live for him. He broke barriers between humanity and God, people groups, and genders. It’s when we live apart from him that we experience disparity. We're all equivalent at the foot of the cross and we can really only know the kind of freedom he brings when we receive his saving grace and live for him. You know Jesus broke barriers between humanity and God between people groups and genders and it's when we live apart from him that we really experience disparity. We can trace that through the old and new Testament. In fact, some influential and powerful women throughout the Bible are, you mentioned her Leah, she stayed strong through heartache and rejection. We had Jacobad, the mother of Moses, Abra led Israelites as a judge and prophetess for 40 years. Esther had the courage to say yes to God and in doing so she saved her people. Mary the mother of Jesus shows us how to have the courage to surrender completely. Then we have Ruth and Mary Bethany. These women were in a very male dominated society but God elevated them to positions of leadership. Sarah became my example of faith in the face of fear. She messed up and I messed up. And I think that's what I love so much about her is because she messed up royally. I mean, she created a whole mess with Ishmael and Isaac. She couldn't wait for God to fulfill his promise to her. And yet he did eventually, but she made this big mess. And yet she's still touted as a woman of faith in the Hall of, you know, Hebrews 11, the Hall of Fame chapter. She is our example of not to give into fear. And I think it's because of her faith, even in the midst of making so many mistakes. I would have to say that one of the women in the Bible who has inspired me the most was the woman at the well. You know, she lived a rejected life. She lived her life apart from other people. She had plenty of sins where she had messed up and yet I love that scripture says that Jesus had to go that way. He had to encounter her. And when he talked about her sin, it wasn't in a demeaning way, but it was to let her know, "Oh, I know so much more, and yet I'm still here with you. I'm still going against societal norms to have a conversation with you." And he revealed himself to her as Messiah and gave her hope to the point that she left and went and told people that she had met the Messiah. And so that's such a good example for me because I don't know about you, but when I've messed up, sometimes I don't even wanna go to God and tell Him, but He already knows. He already knows and it's a safe place. Jesus validated her when he said, "Go in peace. Your faith has made you well." In that, he gave her back her identity. He esteemed her. He loved her. And we don't even know her name, Jessica, but her story encourages us today and it encourages me to keep pursuing after Jesus when I've tried everything else. Jesus is the one place I need to go. Oh, yes. She is a wonderful example of we can feel so set aside. Unseen. Unseen. Rejected. And yet God elevated her. He saw her. He called her to go go into the fact that she believed that Jesus was her only hope and she pushed against the crowd. Leadership doesn't always mean, it doesn't always mean leading your family. It doesn't always mean leading in business. I think leadership, if we expand on that concept, means using our gifts to influence. And our gifts might be the gift of hospitality. It might be the gift of mercy. It might be the gift of compassion or encouragement, but when we use our God -given gifts to influence others, that is assuming a leadership role. Since Old Testament times, the idea of setting boundaries between men and women has been challenged. God has always placed women in leadership positions. Influential and powerful women exist throughout the Bible. Some inspiring women of the Bible include: Leah—strong through heartache and rejection Jochebed—mother of Moses Deborah—prophetess and judge of Israel (40Years) who inspired complete obedience to God Esther—courage to be bold, say yes to God and save her people Mary—trust and courage to surrender completely Miriam—our words matter Rahab—knowing God protects us Ruth—selflessness and seeking God leads to our betterment Priscilla—help each other mature in our faith Mary Magdalene—the power of a submitted heart Rachel—the power of patience to wait on God Hannah—God prizes faithfulness Abigail—equipped for wisdom Martha—God equips us to use our practical gifts Hagar—God gives us strength to move forward Anna—keep watch for God’s works Lydia—grow in love for God for others Rebekah—know that God’s plans are always good Many of the inspiring women of the Bible encourage us to know our strengths, use our influence as an invitation to know God, lead by example and lead with love. Our hardships don’t preempt us from living a life of faith and hope. They propel us toward faith and hope when we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. One of the key commonalities between all of these women is that they did face hardships. So my hope filled perspective is this, that hardships don't preempt us from living a life of faith and hope. They actually propel us toward faith and hope when we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. That's so important because I think in our culture, we look at hardships and Lord. We're doing everything that we can that's right. Jesus told us we would experience hardships. - He did. Read though for the accounts of the women in scripture and how they modeled getting through those hardships and the lessons that they teach us. And there have been so many as we listed off some of the other women that we didn't have time to really talk about in depth today. We would encourage you pick one or two of those women's accounts and go study them for yourself. Can the Bible be trusted when it describes the natural world? Some claim it reflects primitive cosmology, portraying a solid dome sky with stars embedded within it and waters above. If true, this would challenge the Bible’s reliability. But what do the Bible’s own words reveal? Explore how terms like “firmament” and descriptions of heavenly waters are understood in their original context. Is the Bible mistaken about science, or does it use poetic and observational language common in human expression? Keaton Halley delves into these questions, addressing claims about solid skies, heavenly oceans, and the movement of stars. By examining ancient Near Eastern texts and biblical language, Halley demonstrates why Scripture’s authority remains intact. He highlights the significance of interpreting the Bible within its context and trusting its claims about both the natural and spiritual realms.
In this episode, I respond to a one-star review criticizing my interpretation of the parable of the workers in the vineyard (Matthew 20). The review accuses me of neglecting proper biblical scholarship and pushing an economic agenda. But is that a fair critique?Join me as I break down the review, address the concerns raised, and explore the principles of biblical exegesis. We'll examine different interpretive lenses—moralistic, theological, redemptive, and fulfillment perspectives—while uncovering the parable's core message about God's kingdom. Along the way, we'll also consider its secondary implications for property rights and labor value. This episode isn't just a response to criticism—it's a deep dive into how Scripture, economics, and anarchist thought intersect.Full Episode Show Notes at BiblicalAnarchyPodcast.comThe Biblical Anarchy Podcast is part of the Christians For Liberty Network, a project of the Libertarian Christian Institute.Audio Production by Podsworth Media.

Send us a Text Message.Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar help listeners understand healing through the context of scripture. The Lord provides healing through natural means, illustrated by a story where a man's voice was miraculously restored while he was reading a passage from Psalms, despite having a permanent condition. This contrasts sharply with the disillusionment caused by fake healings, where charlatans exploit people's hopes. Such practices lead some to deny the possibility of healing altogether. However, healing is a central theme in the New Testament. The guys talk about maintaining an expectation that God can heal, whether in this life or in the next. Jesus' healings were not just acts of compassion but also demonstrations of the coming Kingdom of God, much like parables that reveal deeper truths to those who seek understanding. We must trust in the Lord and have faith, recognizing that while health is a blessing, sickness can often draw us closer to God. God's grace is sufficient for us, and He may choose to heal or He may not. A lack of healing does not necessarily indicate insufficient faith. There are numerous examples in Scripture where Jesus heals despite a person's doubt or weak faith. God allows His servants to endure suffering for their sanctification. For instance, Stephen was stoned to death according to God's will. Sickness can serve God's glory or act as discipline, but it is incorrect to view all illness as punishment. Some individuals avoid modern medicine, believing they must rely solely on God for healing. However, modern medicine is an act of God's mercy, saving countless lives from common ailments. Medicine is part of God's common grace, benefiting both believers and unbelievers alike.Miracles performed by Jesus demonstrate His power over our fears and affirm His role as the promised snake crusher, destined to reverse the curse of sin. Jesus experienced the full wrath of God on the cross, allowing us to look forward to eternity without suffering. God has addressed our suffering through Christ, and ultimate healing is assured in the life to come.In conclusion, while we trust in God for healing and acknowledge that He can work through both miraculous and natural means, we must also understand that suffering and illness can have a purpose in God's greater plan. The ultimate healing and restoration are promised in eternity where all suffering will cease and we will experience the fullness of God's glory. Until then, we rely on God's grace, which is sufficient for every circumstance, and we trust in His wisdom and timing for our healing. Thanks for listening!
