(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Muslim militants killed three Christians in Nigeria Militants with the Islamic State West Africa Province killed three Christian men in Nigeria recently. On June 3rd, the extremists stopped a vehicle in the northern part of the country. They allowed Muslim passengers to leave, but abducted the Christians before killing them at gunpoint. The same Islamic group carried out eight attacks against Christian villages in Nigeria back in January. The incident left 12 Christians dead. This came after the Islamic State called for militants to “kill [Christians] where you find them.” Psalm 116:15 says, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.” Nigeria is ranked sixth on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most dangerous to be a Christian. European Central Bank cut interest rates Last week, the European Central Bank cut interest rates for the first time in five years. It's the second major economy to do so after Canada. The European bank lowered rates from 4% to 3.75%. The move came ahead of the European elections as voters face higher prices. Meanwhile, the U.S. continues to keep interest rates unchanged. The Federal Reserve held the rate around 5.25% to 5.5%, the highest in over two decades. The Fed anticipates only one rate cut this year as inflation remains higher than its target of 2% annually. Texas judge v. Biden over sexual perversion On Tuesday, a federal judge in Texas ruled against the Biden administration's attempt to protect students living sexually perverted lifestyles. The U.S. Department of Education had issued guidance, threatening to remove funding from schools that did not accommodate students' so-called gender identity or sexual orientation. The Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton brought the lawsuit against the Education Department. He said, “Threatening to withhold education funding by forcing states to accept 'transgender' policies, that put women in danger, was plainly illegal.” 10 Texas abortions in January Also in Texas news, the state's Health and Human Services Commission reports there were 10 abortions in the state in January. Texas has banned nearly all abortions since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The pro-life law does allow abortions under a so-called medical necessity exception in life-of-the-mother cases. Since July 2022, 91 abortions have been done under the exception. Before that, elective abortions averaged 2,000-3,000 per month. Southern Baptist policy prohibits female pastors Delegates with the Southern Baptist Convention gathered over the last week for their annual meeting. Delegates considered changing the denomination's constitution to permanently prohibit women from serving as pastors. Sixty-one percent voted in favor of the amendment. However, a 66% majority is required to change the constitution. The Southern Baptist Convention's statement of faith limits the office of pastor to men. However, nearly 2,000 SBC churches have women pastors. Crime down across America The Federal Bureau of Investigation released a report on crime during the first quarter of this year. Violent crime was down 15% compared to the same period last year. Other crime rates also decreased. Reported rapes were down 26%, robberies were down 18%, aggravated assaults were down 12%, and property crimes were down 15%. A third of Major League Baseball has not affirmed sexual Perverse Pride month Many sports teams show their support for so-called Pride month in June. However, about a third of Major League Baseball teams have not shown that support on social media. The Christian Post notes those teams include the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians, Houston Astros, Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, and Texas Rangers. However, many teams still find other ways to show support. The unique communication of African elephants Scientists have discovered that African elephants communicate with each other on an individual basis. Elephants use low-frequency rumble calls to communicate. They're out of range for human hearing but can travel long distances. The new research found the animals even have unique calls to address specific elephants. Biologist Mickey Pardo noted, “The elephants responded much more strongly, on average, to playbacks of calls that were originally addressed to them relative to playbacks of calls from the same caller that were originally addressed to someone else.” Psalm 104:24 says, “O LORD, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions.” Newscast listener: “My wife plays The Worldview for the boys.” Last night, I picked up the phone and called Troy in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas who gave $25 toward The Worldview's month-long fundraiser to finance the 6-member team for another year. I asked him what motivated him to make a donation. TROY: “My wife plays The Worldview for the boys, for their homeschool in the morning. We have eight kids total, but we have four boys at home that she's homeschooling. And then we have a 9-month-old girl, also.” He explained the kind of stories he likes the most. TROY: “We like to hear about our brothers and sisters [in Christ] over in other countries instead of just the junk that's on the mainstream media news. We like to hear about people we can be praying for. Today we're joined by Pastor Tom Ascol of Grace Baptist Church to discuss the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting held a few weeks ago, where the big topic was whether Rick Warren's Saddleback Church would remain in the SBC after its new stance on female pastors. Pastor Tom breaks down what happened and the major arguments, as well as why Rick Warren's argument doesn't hold up against biblical standards. By Jonathan Clark 80 killed & 200 churches burned in Manipur, India Since mid-May, Christians have been targeted by radical Hindus in Manipur, India, a Northeastern state of 3.5 million people. The believers represent 41% of the population there. To date, 108 villages have been completely destroyed, 200 churches and 1,700 homes have been burned down, and 80 people have been killed. In addition, 270 have been injured, and 66,000 people—mostly Christ followers—have been displaced from their homes, reports Global Christian Relief. On today's edition of Generations Radio, guest host Adam McManus interviews David Curry, President of Global Christian Relief. CURRY: “Well, the initial origin story has to do with a bill that was being passed that favored the majority, the Meiti tribe, a Hindu tribe, and there was some political outrage about it. There was some initial protests and these sorts of things. And then, as has been the case, in several of the incidents across India, what is a political issue or tribal issue or land issue becomes an attack on Christians and churches. “That's because India as a whole since 2013, has had this movement towards nationalism where they are whipping up dissent against Christians. They're saying things like, ‘You're not really an Indian citizen if you're not a Hindu.' And so you have this rise in attacks on Christians, on Christian churches. And it's bounced up 300% since the political leadership took hold in 2013.” Global Christian Relief has opened two emergency relief centers, in a nearby Indian state, offering food, shelter, clothing, and medicine. Thousands Join March for Jesus in France Thousands of people joined the March for Jesus in France earlier this month. Music, testimonies, and prayers filled the streets of five cities, including Paris. Gilbert Léonian, president of the March for Jesus France, said, “the main aim of the March . . . is to promote unity, communion and cooperation among God's people, especially evangelical Christians . . . We want to have an impact on society.” There are an estimated 745,000 evangelicals in France now, up from 50,000 in 1950. Supreme Court Addresses Planned Parenthood Case in South Carolina In the U.S., the Supreme Court vacated a lower court ruling on Tuesday in an abortion-related case. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled that South Carolina cannot end taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood. The Supreme Court ordered the 4th Circuit to reconsider the case in light of the high court's recent decision in a similar case from Indiana. The case stems from a 2018 executive order by Republican Gov. Henry McMaster. The order barred groups that performed abortions from participating in the South Carolina's Medicaid program. Support for Sin Decreases in the U.S. A new Gallup poll found a majority of Americans still support many practices such as birth control, divorce, extra-marital sex, gay or lesbian relations, doctor-assisted suicide, and abortion. However, support for most of these practices is down this year compared to last year. The greatest decrease in support was for sexually perverted relations at 64% this year, down from 71% last year. The figure has been steadily increasing from 40% since the early 2000s. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but happy is he who keeps the law.” SBC Expels Two Churches For Having Female Pastors And finally, the Southern Baptist Convention voted last Wednesday to expel two churches from the denomination for having female pastors. The SBC's statement of faith affirms the Biblical teaching that only men can serve as pastors, but not all churches were practicing accordingly. Albert Mohler, President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, stated, “The issue of women serving in the pastorate is an issue of fundamental Biblical authority that does violate both the doctrine and the order of the Southern Baptist Convention.” The denomination's representatives also voted in favor of amending their constitution to reflect the Biblical teaching. 2 Peter 1:19 says, “And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, June 22nd in the year of our Lord 2023. The organization also voted to finalize the expulsion of two churches for having female pastors, Saddleback Church in Southern California and Fern Creek Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Religious buildings are targeted in 100 countries Pew Research released a report last week on property crimes against religious groups in 2020. Out of nearly 200 countries, properties in over 100 countries were targeted in incidents tied to religion. Europe had the highest share of countries with such property attacks. Churches filed restitution cases to recover confiscated property as well as vandalism of their property. The Middle East, North Africa, and the Asian-Pacific region also saw high levels of attacks on religious property. Sub-Saharan Africa and the Americas experienced the least attacks. Overall, social groups perpetrated the attacks in 81 countries, while governments were the perpetrators in 56 countries. Britain bans puberty blockers for kids Last Friday, the National Health Service of England announced restrictions on puberty blockers for children. The latest guidance still allows the drugs but limits them to clinical trials. The NHS previously acknowledged that children who pretend to be the opposite sex may be going through a “transient phase.” The latest guidance noted, “A significant proportion of children and young people who are concerned about or distressed by issues of gender incongruence experience coexisting mental health, neuro-developmental, or personal, family or social complexities in their lives.” Sexual perversion is transient phase for many in U.K. A new study from Duke University found sexually perverted lifestyles are indeed a transient phase for many in the U.K. The study analyzed over 20,000 respondents in two waves. The first wave was between 2011 and 2013; the second one was between 2017 and 2019. The survey found 8.6% of people who identified as gay or lesbian in the first wave, switched to heterosexual by the second wave. Among those identifying as bisexual, 44% changed to heterosexual. And a massive 69.6% of those identifying as “other” made the switch. The “other” category includes people pretending to be the opposite sex. Only 3.3% of heterosexuals in the first wave identified differently by the second wave. Jesus said in Mark 10:6, “But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.'" Missouri protects kids with two new laws Meanwhile, in the U.S., Missouri Republican Governor Mike Parson signed two bills last week to protect children. One bill prohibits male students from participating in female sports at schools. The other bill outlaws surgical or chemical procedures meant to “transition” children to the opposite sex. Governor Parson said, “These decisions have permanent consequences for life and should not be made by impressionable children who may be in crisis or influenced by the political persuasions of others.” Rising percentage of Americans are conservative A new survey from Gallup found more Americans say they are conservative on social issues. Thirty-eight percent of U.S. adults say they are conservative on social issues this year, up from 30% in 2021. Meanwhile, 29% of Americans say they are liberal on social issues this year, down from 34% in 2021. Gallup noted this increase in conservative identification on social issues was present in nearly all political and demographic subgroups. Southern Baptists eager to ban female pastors The Southern Baptist Convention is holding its annual meeting this week in New Orleans. Delegates at the meeting will vote on a measure to prevent women from serving as pastors in the denomination. The SBC's statement of faith states, “the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.” However, some churches in the denomination are practicing differently. The annual meeting will also consider whether or not to remove two churches for having women in pastoral roles. One of the churches is Saddleback Church, a megachurch in California founded by Rick Warren. Approximately 1,800 female pastors in Southern Baptist Convention And finally, a new study analyzes how many female pastors are in the Southern Baptist Convention. The research was led by Kevin McClure, a PhD student at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. The study analyzed the SBC's online church database of 47,614 churches. Of those, 22,000 churches have websites listed. The study randomly selected 3,847 churches out the 22,000. Of that sample, there were 149 female pastors across 99 churches. Extrapolating that out to the rest of the denomination would mean there are 1,844 female pastors in 1,225 SBC churches. McClure noted, “This is a staggering number, and it dwarfs the previously known information about female pastors by a factor of ten.” The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 2:12, “I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Wednesday, June 14th in the year of our Lord 2023. GUEST: MIKE STONE, candidate for president, Southern Baptist ConventionHeresy is defined as “belief or opinion contrary to orthodox religious doctrine.”For two millennia of church history, it has been the orthodox belief of Christians and churches who esteem Scripture as the highest authority that men—not women—with character “above reproach” are qualified to serve as pastors or overseers in the church.Scripture and church history are so clear on this that to propose that women should be pastors is to willfully reject God and His design for His church.1 Timothy 3 is one Scriptural basis for male-only pastors. Notice the specificity of men as church overseers and the use of male pronouns:It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. 2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money. 4 He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?), 6 and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. 7 And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. (1 Timothy 3:1-7).The Bible is perhaps even more clear in the previous chapter:I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. (1 Timothy 2:12-14).Rick Warren is arguably the most well-known pastor in the world. He was the pastor at the mega-church Saddleback in Southern California for decades, is the author of numerous best-selling books, and speaks at major venues all over the world.Rick Warren is also the current chief proponent for the heresy of female pastors being integrated into the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in America and the one his own church was disfellowshipped from due to Rick Warren ordaining multiple women to pastoral roles.Rick Warren is not going silently into the night on this issue. The Southern Baptist Annual Meeting is coming up June 12-13 in New Orleans where the attendees (or “messengers” as they are known) will vote to confirm or rescind the disfellowshipping of Saddleback. In the lead-up to the meeting, Rick Warren is using his formidable position and influence to persuade the Southern Baptist Convention away from biblical and historical orthodoxy on the issue of female pastors to heresy (again, “belief or opinion contrary to orthodox religious doctrine”).This weekend on The Christian Worldview, Mike Stone, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear, GA and candidate for president of the Southern Baptist Convention will join us to discuss this issue and others within the SBC and what his vision is for the denomination going forward.
