In this Mother's Day interview with Emily's Mom, Roni Arnold, we dive into a parent's perspective on deconstruction. We get into the nitty-gritty of what it's like to navigate when faith shifts in a family. Roni shares how she came to faith in Jesus later in life and what it feels like to have a daughter who no longer identifies as a christian. She lets us in on how she often disagreed with the Evangelical beliefs she came across and felt grieved that Emily absorbed the more high-demand elements of Christianity. We hear how Roni's faith leans more liberal when it comes to sex, hell, feminism, and queer people. You'll hear how she has empathy for Emily amid her doubts because Roni's got some of her own, too. You'll hear Emily and Roni wrapping up a raw and tense moment that happened right before recording, so you'll see some quick mother-daughter conflict resolution in real-time. __ Be a Baddie with us on social media! - Instagram | TikTok Learn more about your ad choices. Scripture has been interpreted many different ways over the years, but how can you tell the difference between false gospels and the one Jesus lived and taught? On today's episode of the Great Stories Podcast, Charles Morris and David Wollen are joined by Brandon Kimber, the director and editor of American Gospel: Christ Crucified. Together, they offer a biblical response to the growing deconstruction and progressive Christianity movement in America. Brandon Kimber created the American Gospel series to take a critical look at some of the distorted, corrupted versions of the gospel circulating in western culture today. In this important and timely conversation, he discusses some of the problematic takes on Christ's crucifixion and how Christians can respond with grace and truth.

Today we're talking about Derek Webb, the former lead singer of 90s Christian band Caedmon's Call, who deconstructed and has now put out a song praising drag queens, most notably his friend “Flame Grant.” We discuss the startling trend of Christian musicians choosing to deconstruct, usually after some acceptance or adoption of the LGBTQ lifestyle. We cover why these are linked, and some other reasons that might be behind Christian artists abandoning God. Then, the Library of Congress apologized for “misgendering” an author, adding to the list of very important things governmental institutions are focusing on. We also discuss Ohio's Issue 1 vote, which struck down a measure that would make it harder to enshrine abortion rights into Ohio law, and the troubling story coming out of Utah of a 75-year-old man who was deemed a “credible threat to the president” killed by the FBI. Revelation is actually politically subversive literature that deconstructs the way of empire and reconstructs the way of God. This internet age is full of trends. One of the latest is the trend to “deconstruct” one's beliefs about Jesus and Christianity. If someone you love has done this, how should you respond? On today's podcast, Alisa Childers joins Frank to offer insights on how you can make progress, especially when your loved one now thinks you are “toxic” and seems resistant to reason. Join our listeners as they ask questions related to their personal experiences, including: What is causing this trend? What are the top 4 reasons why people leave the Christian faith? What is "deconstruction" and how does it compare to having doubts? What if your pastor is showing signs of deconstruction? How do you talk to a spouse who belittles you and your beliefs? What if your child has been brainwashed by their spouse? Is it possible to have a relationship with someone who hates your faith? Should we be talking about this trend with our young children? Emiko Jean is a Japanese-American author-- but, before she was an author, she was an entomologist (bug catcher), candle maker, florist, and teacher. She strongly believes in “faking it till you make it” and asking for forgiveness rather than permission. Emiko has written many YA novels, like, Tokyo Ever After, which was a Reese Witherspoon Book Club YA Pick. But her most recent novel, Mika in Real Life, is a bit more grown-up. With themes about sexual assault, motherhood, adoption, and coming of age when you're already an adult. The protagonist, Mika, has disappointed her mother too many times to count, has given up her passions, can't keep a job, and her love life is– well, nonexistent. The novel begins at the peak of all this messiness when Mika gets a call… and it's the daughter she put up for adoption 16 years ago. We speak with Emiko Jean about her new novel, motherhood, and how her book explores and deconstructs the 'model minority myth.'

Dennis Prager Deconstructs Biden's Speech of Gratuitous Hatred. Dennis Prager Podcasts Gratuitous Hatred Sep 02 2022 What was the theme of President Biden's very bad speech? “If I can get half the country to fear the other half, then I've done my job. And the NY Times will love me.” Biden did not offer a single example of how President Trump impaired democracy during his term. It's a must-read that every person, religious and non-religious, should buy and peruse every night before bed. It'll make you think harder, pray more ardently, and understand your civilization better." — Ben Shapiro, host of "The Ben Shapiro Show" "Dennis Prager's commentary on Exodus will rank among the greatest modern Torah commentaries. That is how important I think it is. And I am clearly not alone... It might well be on its way to becoming the most widely read Torah commentary of our time—and by non-Jews as well as by Jews." — Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, bestselling author of Jewish Literacy Why do so many people think the Bible, the most influential book in world history, is outdated? Why do our friends and neighbors – and sometimes we ourselves – dismiss the Bible as irrelevant, irrational, immoral, or all of these things? This explanation of the Book of Exodus, the second book of the Bible, will demonstrate that the Bible is not only powerfully relevant to today's issues, but completely consistent with rational thought. Do you think the Bible permitted the trans-Atlantic slave trade? You won't after reading this book. Do you struggle to love your parents? If you do, you need this book. Do you doubt the existence of God because belief in God is “irrational?” This book will give you reason after reason to rethink your doubts. The title of this commentary is, “The Rational Bible” because its approach is entirely reason-based. The reader is never asked to accept anything on faith alone. As Prager says, “If something I write does not make rational sense, I have not done my job.” The Rational Bible is the fruit of Dennis Prager's forty years of teaching the Bible to people of every faith, and no faith. On virtually every page, you will discover how the text relates to the contemporary world and to your life. His goal: to change your mind – and then change your life. Highly Recommended by ACU. This explanation of the Book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, demonstrates clearly and powerfully that the opposite is true. The Bible remains profoundly relevant—both to the great issues of our day and to each individual life. It is the greatest moral guide and source of wisdom ever written. Do you doubt the existence of God because you think believing in God is irrational? This book will give you many reasons to rethink your doubts. Do you think faith and science are in conflict? You won't after reading this commentary on Genesis. Do you come from a dysfunctional family? It may comfort you to know that every family discussed in Genesis was highly dysfunctional! We're starting a new series that is going to be fire–it's For the Love of Dating, Sex and Relationships. We're going to cover a lot of territory over the life of this series–and with this episode we're going to start with a question; what was it that you learned about sex during the most formative years of your life? Because whether you realize it or not, this can greatly shape how you approach sex as an adult. Maybe you've been unraveling what it is you think about sex, how you think about your body, what sex means to you–and you're tracing it back to what you learned as teenager or young adult–and maybe that education wasn't positive. To help guide us through making those connections to our early sexual education and how we view sex today is therapist Jay Stringer–returning for his second appearance on the show. Jay pulls back the curtain on the teachings many of us got about sex when we were young. Even if you never were a part of movements like “True Love Waits,” or received lessons on purity culture by your church, or other religious organizations–perhaps there was a rigid sexual space in the childhood home you grew up in. We're speaking to all the ways sex might have been presented to us with messages of shame. Jay encourages us to look at our sexual stories, seeking ways to find healing and wholeness toward a healthy view of sex. And bonus–for you parents who find talking about sex with your kids akin to a slow, painful death, Jay and Jen talk through ways can engage our kids around sex without the shame approach that a lot of us experienced, and to have those conversations in a loving, age-appropriate way by being open and responsive. Content Warning: This episode talks extensively about sex, sexuality, and unwanted sexual behaviors, so it may not be suitable for young listeners. Series Description Y'all. It's time to talk about it. The good, the bad, the ugly, the dramatic, the hilarious. That's right–we're talking about relationships. As Jen dips her toes back in the dating world post-divorce, what better time to call in the experts? For many of us grown adults who haven't dated in a thousand years, the methods have changed, the rules have changed (swipe left anyone?) and we're clueless where to start. And for those of you have been in the mix of it for awhile, you'll still find something new to learn in these conversations that run the gamut from sex, to matchmaking, to finding love in this new world order. We'll also talk about what to do when your kids start dating, how to navigate the apps (RIP to our sanity), and what to do if you don't want to be single, and if you do, how to find the maximum satisfaction out of going it solo. We'll chat with experts, friends, mentors, leaders–basically the people who have the receipts to give us the goods on what healthy relationships look like and how to nurture and build them to what they need to be. Because at the end of the day, good relationships with ourselves and others are what makes life sweeter. * * * Thank you to our sponsors! Thought-Provoking Quotes “If you hate your sexual desire, and you are militantly trying to stop it, you are going to develop a very severe and harmful theology, and that's exactly what happened in purity culture.” – Jay Stringer “I've seen the purity culture really affect women in three particular ways. I would say that it deprioritizes women's sexual pleasure. It set women up for sexual violation. Then, the third, is that it contributed to sexual pain.” – Jay Stringer “I think one of the greatest myths out there is that you can't change your past. In some ways, the past is far easier to change than the future, in that you can go back to that scared, adolescent girl, and you can begin to mother her. You can ask her, ‘what are the things that you wish that you would have known back in the day?'” – Jay Stringer “When we don't have language for what we're experiencing or what we're coming out of, we aren't going to have language to be able to create a new sexual world, so we've got to educate ourselves. We've got to get into community and start talking through this stuff in order to rewrite our sexual script.” – Jay Stringer “For a seed to grow, it has to transgress the seed casing, and the root has to go down in order for the shoot to go up, and so that sense of our children need to transgress the boundaries, in some ways, that we have created, in order for them to individuate, to be able to grow. We don't want to create soil that does not allow them to transgress the boundaries of childhood. We want to allow some of that transgression to grow. I think that begins by inviting them to consider like, what do you want your own sexual story to look like?” – Jay Stringer “View sexual difficulties as a stage to be able to rewrite your story.” – Jay Stringer Jay's LinksWebsite Facebook Instagram Twitter Books & Resources Mentioned in This EpisodeUnwanted: How Sexual Brokeness Reveals Our Way to Healing - Jay Stringer Addressing Broken Sexual Behavior with Jay Stringer - For the Love Podcast Episode The Great Sex Rescue: The Lies You've Been Taught and How to Recover What God Intended - Sheila Gregoire Come As You Are: Revised and Updated: The Surprising New Science That Will Transform Your Sex Life - Emily Nagoski Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less - Greg McKeown Dr. Dan Allender Connect with Jen!Jen's website Jen's InstagramJen's Twitter Jen's FacebookJen's YouTube

David Gornoski sits down with Dr. Ray Peat, researcher of aging, nutrition, and hormones. Why are so many areas of science off-limits for criticism? Is Noam Chomsky really an anti-establishment figure as the Left claims? Why was postmodernism spread into the various institutions of America? Is there a conflict of interest between American and European GMOs? Join Dr. Peat as he takes his nutrition science gloves off and offers his insights on our current political and cultural state of affairs. From time to time McShane and Fitz will take on a subject. This might be something neat in science, movies, the news, and maybe even a scientific figure. This show, we deconstruct Fight Club. This was not your typical break down of the movie. This is one of the deepest movies you'll find and most disturbing yet poignant books you'll read. It's also captures the darkest humor you'll find. The biggest reason why we took this for our latest deconstruct was because of the times we're living in. We hope you'll enjoy this journey.
