Celest Pereira, a physiotherapy expert, joins guest host Marc Laws II, a Glo instructor, in a conversation about neuroscience and biomechanics. In previous episodes of The Glo Podcast, we've talked about how the brain perceives and creates the world we experience. Celest brings a new chapter to those conversations. She and Marc discuss nociceptors, the sensory neurons that respond to potentially damaging stimuli by sending “possible threat” signals to the spinal cord and brain. The brain creates the sensation of pain to call attention to the part of the body that might be at risk. Celest is a co-author, with Adell Bridges, of Too Flexible To Feel Good, a book for double-jointed or overly flexible people who struggle with injuries in their yoga practice. Through her practice, Adell found that yoga is not only great for the body, but it nurtures a healthy mental and emotional wellbeing as well. And that’s how she became a yoga addict! In the episode, we discussed the best way to get started with your yoga practice as a deskbound professional, how to know what stretches your body needs after long periods of sitting, the key difference between mobility and flexibility, how to prevent injuries in your yoga practice and why yoga is for everyone regardless of their age, body shape, physical ability, or lifestyle, can benefit from a yoga practice. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of hosting Adell Bridges at my home. She’s been living as a nomadic yoga teacher since January 2017. That’s almost 2 years on the road. In that time she’s lived and taught all over the world and called everywhere, ranging from India to London to Nicaragua, her temporary home. The Instagram posts can make it seem like the most glamorous lifestyle in the world. But that’s far from true. In this session, we break down the pros and cons of being a nomadic yoga teacher. Nothing is held back and no topic is off limit. Listen and you’ll find out what I mean.On a personal note, I just want to say thank you to Adell. She came into my life at the exact moment I needed her. I had been having a shitty week, but meeting and connecting with her reminded me that whatever dreams I have, I can make them real. Although we had just met, it seemed like I’d known her for years. So shout out to Adell, thanks for coming on the podcast and hope to see you soon.As always, shout out to our friends at SF Yoga Magazine for their continued support.Learn more about Adell:https://adellbridgesyoga.com/InstagramFacebookTwitterYoutubeDon’t forget to subscribe via: iTunes | Google Play | RSS | Spotify.MUSICWisdom, DominantWRITE A REVIEWIf you like the podcast, please leave a review or rating on iTunes!
