In today's episode, we feature a conversation with the strategist behind Ethereum's early marketing initiatives—Amanda Cassatt. She covers her career progression towards becoming the influential figure who helped establish Ethereum as a recognized name in technology, rather than just a hacker project (as it was in its early days). Amanda takes us through her professional background from serving as ConsenSys CMO to establishing Serotonin, offering valuable perspectives on the distinguishing factors between successful and unsuccessful web3 ventures. We also discuss current landscape surrounding token launches, strategies to reach new audiences, how to think about launching brands in crypto, the problem of communication without substance in the industry, and Amanda's insights into the future technological stratification expressed as positioning "above or below the API line." This one got spicy, and trippy. It was fun. This discussion reveals the core components required to develop a successful crypto brand during a time where the space is littered with projects that offer surface-level activity without meaningful value or strong foundation. We don't love being cynical, but sometimes you need to call a spade, a spade. We did that today. Not really a pretty day today, we undid the progress from yesterday in stocks roughly 75%. Interest rates are something to watch out for, it seems like we are selling off. the markets are more in line with the narrative of the FED as opposed to the standoff we were eexperiencing earlier this week. Crypto doesn't have much to talk about, we have been in a tight 10pt range with out much action. BTC and ETH are experiencing their lowest volumes in a long time. The Alts have also seemed to pull back today, likely some profit taking going on there. The FCC ETF approval is rumored to happen in 2024, but OSF points out that even at the point it could take more time. The Sam Spratt news has been taking over the timeline. He is launching the Monument game and releasing different hints and bits of information. It is all set to be an interactive chapter in Lucy's story, where members of the council have selected people to play. Very little information has been released yet but he is set to be on the show next week. Machi has accumulated over 200 Degods at this point. This is also following the excessive FUD they have received following the season III announcement. It seems to be a question at this point of who is holding a major bag. Yesterday Reptjar, a community member of the overlord creeps, made a proposal to farokh to change his pfp to a creep in exchange for a tattoo of farokhs punk on his arm. Argentina is looking to get rid of their native currency and adopt crypto to transact. Many currencies are collapsing against the dollar. It's interesting to see a national currency fail and create a lane for Crypto, very far from ideal but it has created an avenue none the less. Europes first spot bitcoin ETF lists in Amsterdam, great news. Zynga stepped into web3 gaming, which is huge as they are a billion dollar mobile gaming company. We had Amanda Cassatt on stage to join us. she started contributing to the space in 2015! she was CMO at Consensys during the time that Ethereum was introduced! Amanda Cassatt has been active within the Ethereum ecosystem almost from the very beginning as she led marketing for ConsenSys, the Ethereum application development studio built by Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin. She has since gone on to co-found Serotonin, a web3 professional services firm and Mojito, an NFT infrastructure firm. Amanda is a former special projects editor for the Huffington Post and interned at the New Yorker magazine, and co-founded Slant in 2015, so we naturally dove deep into media revenue models and how web2 didn't quite get it right. While some brands are flocking to the blockchain by launching NFTs or establishing themselves in the metaverse, other companies are still on either side of the spectrum. From contemplating whether their customers are ready for a new virtual shopping reality, or if the crypto-native internet users will be receptive to their brand's debut in Web3, not all companies are ready to embrace the blockchain. But in these early stages of blockchain development, what a lot of brands aren't realizing is that the move to Web3 doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing transition and can be taken gradually and thoughtfully. That's how Amanda Cassatt sees it, according to the latest episode of the Digiday Podcast. Cassatt is a pioneer in Web3, having assisted in the launch of the Ethereum blockchain as well as co-founding two companies, Serotonin and its subsidiary Mojito, both of which work with companies to find their footing in the Web3 space. As CEO of marketing agency Serotonin, her team works on customer acquisition strategies that are directed to crypto-native audiences, and as president of Mojito, a NFT studio and tech platform company, clients like Sotheby's have worked with her team to execute NFT drops and develop metaverse presence in some cases for the first time. While there is a lot to understand about the blockchain, Cassatt said the strongest approach a brand can take to entering this space is to remain focused on the unique value proposition of a company.
