Come meet Vince and the SPF Team at his Live Mastermind Event, July 18-19. Tickets are selling fast. Click below to learn more:https://events.vincegabriele.com/july2025 In this episode of Business Secrets for Gym Owners, Vince shares a powerful, real-time example of leveraging joint ventures to grow a gym business. He walks through a coaching session with a new gym owner launching from his garage to his first gym location, tapping into a golden partnership opportunity with his wife's dance studio. Vince breaks down the email campaign he personally wrote for this joint venture, highlighting the storytelling, offer structure, and copywriting nuances that make it effective. He also dives into using ChatGPT to generate hyperlocal joint venture lists, emphasizing that while ads are great, nothing beats the power of strategic alliances. The episode wraps up with a passionate pitch for the upcoming July Mastermind event and a heartfelt message about personal growth, mindset, and building a business that creates freedom. 5 Key Points:The Power of Hyperlocal Joint Ventures:Vince showcases a live example of partnering with a dance school (owned by the gym owner's wife) to drive pre-sale signups, proving that trusted community relationships can outperform cold ads.Crafting Irresistible Offers Through Storytelling:He shares the exact email he wrote in the wife's voice, using humor, relatability, and scarcity to make the offer compelling (75% discount for the dance school's parents).ChatGPT as a Business Development Tool:Vince gives his exact ChatGPT prompt to generate a highly targeted list of potential joint venture partners, making the once tedious "angel list" process much faster and more productive.Strategic Partnerships Trump Paid Ads Alone:While paid ads are useful, Vince drives home that joint ventures often bring in higher-quality leads, better conversion rates, and stronger community ties. It's About More Than Just Business Growth:The episode closes with a heartfelt reminder that gym ownership is about creating a better life—more freedom, more involvement with family, and becoming the best version of yourself, not just stacking cash. Come meet Vince and the SPF Team at his Live Mastermind Event, July 18-19. In this compelling episode of The Voice of Retail, I sit down again and catch up with Emma May, Founder of SophieGrace, a Calgary-based fashion brand transforming professional womenswear with modular, machine-washable designs. With a diverse background spanning law, politics, and real estate, Emma shares the origin story of SophieGrace, born from her frustration with the lack of cohesive, high-quality wardrobe options for professional women.Emma discusses how her brand serves an underserved segment—professional women who want elegant, coordinated, and comfortable clothing without the hassle of traditional shopping. She highlights how SophieGrace's clean design ethos and product quality have created an extremely loyal customer base across North America, including legal professionals, political leaders, and C-suite executives. We dive into the business model, including the online-first strategy supported by two physical showrooms in Calgary and Vancouver and Emma's growing interest in experiential retail through pop-ups and client-hosted events. She details how organic, word-of-mouth growth—amplified by strategic community events like wine-and-shop nights hosted by senior partners and wealth managers—has been central to building the brand's reputation.Emma also opens up about the operational and strategic challenges of manufacturing. Originally sourcing from China for scalability, SophieGrace explored Canadian production, only to be forced to return offshore after losing a key domestic supplier. Despite these hurdles, product quality and innovation remain front and center—stretch silk blouses and capsule drops ensure her customers return again and again. The conversation turns to current trade policy headwinds. With 30% of sales once coming from the U.S., Emma unpacks how the elimination of de minimis exemptions and looming tariffs—potentially exceeding 100%—have derailed her expansion plans. The result: a pivot back to Canadian growth and exploring new frontiers, including potential wholesale opportunities and a European launch.Emma's journey is a masterclass in entrepreneurial grit, customer-driven design, and navigating global trade complexity with agility. Whether you're a fashion entrepreneur, policy wonk, or retail strategist, this episode delivers a wealth of insights into building a brand with purpose and scalability in 2025's challenging retail environment. These retailer interviews are some of our most popular episodes and what you all are telling us you want more of. This week we are going all the way back to Episode 132 with Millie Blackwell of Mrs. Blackwell's Village Bookshop in Greytown, New Zealand. Let's dive in!   In This Episode:  If you think you have to be on FB to grow your business, think again! Meet Millie Blackwell - owner of Mrs. Blackwell's Village Bookshop in Greytown, New Zealand. Before opening her shop in December 2020, Millie and her husband owned digital businesses and did a lot of home renovations. Her shop is perfect for romantic, curious minds and romantic souls. Her bookshop is filled with books and creative items such as notebooks, jigsaw puzzles, fountain pens, stationary, etc.   Because Millie opened her shop during the height of the pandemic, she really had to work hard to build their market base in unique and creative ways. Storytelling has been a successful marketing strategy for them with print ads, Instagram, and their quarterly newsletter: The Blackwell Bugle. Fun fact: Millie doesn't use Facebook for personal use or for her business! It can be done.   All of Millie's business marketing decisions are based on building community and becoming a destination shop. Listen to her attract strategies! They go against the grain and work for her! She's doing it her way and making connections, human to human.    Millie is a member of our Level Up and Accelerate Mastermind group and works hard at business development, and pays close attention to tracking, measuring, tweaking, training, and focusing on foot traffic.   Ready to Level Up? Join The Retailer's Inner Circle.  Here's everything you need to know about the Retailer's Inner Circle. You'll have access to countless Masterclasses including Foot Traffic Made Simple, Shop Standards, Money Matters, and so many others. Vince and Leo tease an upcoming workshop while also spotlighting their July mastermind event in New Jersey.
