On July 17, Apex the stegosaurus was sold at Sothebys in New York City for a record $44.6 million. The buyer was billionaire Ken Griffin, CEO of the hedge fund Citadel, who says he plans to loan the fossil to American institutions for display. But despite Griffin's statement, some paleontologists aren't too happy about the trend of fossils going up for auction. The sale of dinosaur fossils has become more and more profitable in recent years. Eight out of the ten most expensive fossils have been sold in the last four years. This trend of rising sale prices leaves museums and research institutions unable to pay for fossils that could benefit paleontological research.Paleontologists fear that as more and more fossils become privately owned, the availability of fossils for research and even access to dig sites might decrease or be restricted.SciFri guest host and producer Kathleen Davis is joined by Dr. Steve Brusatte, professor of paleontology at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland to talk about the potential scientific impacts of privatizing and selling fossils.Transcript for this segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com. OVERVIEWRichard McDonough is a renowned real estate agent in Stillwater, Minnesota, who has built a strong reputation in the industry through his dedication to continuous learning and effective use of social media and technology. His perspective on the real estate market in Stillwater is overwhelmingly positive, shaped by his experiences and deep appreciation for the town. He views Stillwater as a beautiful small town with a strong sense of community, excellent schools, and a variety of activities, making it an attractive place for many people to move to. His admiration for the town is further reinforced by its consistent recognition as one of the best small towns in America. This appreciation, combined with his commitment to building relationships within the industry, has significantly contributed to his success, as evidenced by his remarkable growth in 2012 GCI from $79,000 to $485,000 in just one year.TIMESTAMPS(00:05:17) Desirable Real Estate in Scenic Stillwater(00:16:29) Luxury yacht crew life and career transition(00:24:11) From Yachting to Real Estate: Embracing Change(00:28:03) Collaboration and Communication in Real Estate(00:31:18) Maximizing Lead Generation with Google Business(00:36:42) Stillwater: A Small Town with High Home Prices(00:41:22) Enhancing credibility and effectiveness through accurate real estate dataOVERVIEWReal estate in Stillwater, Minnesota offers a unique blend of small-town charm and access to major corporations, making it an attractive place to live. In a recent episode of "The Real Estate Sessions" podcast, host Bill Risser interviewed Richard McDonough, a successful real estate agent in the area, who shared insights into the local market and the challenges and opportunities it presents.Located in the St. Croix Valley, Stillwater is not just a suburb but a beautiful small town with a strong sense of community. It is home to Anderson Windows, one of the world's leading window manufacturers, and is in close proximity to other major corporations like 3M, Target, and Medtronic. This combination of small-town atmosphere and employment opportunities makes Stillwater an appealing place for both residents and businesses. One of the interesting aspects of the Stillwater real estate market, as McDonough pointed out, is that many residents have deep roots in the area. Generational homes are common, with houses being passed down within families. This means that a significant portion of McDonough's business comes from people moving into the area, attracted by the sense of community, excellent schools, and the variety of activities available. The St. Croix River, which flows through Stillwater, adds to the town's appeal. It is one of the narrowest national parks in the country and was one of the first two rivers designated as a national scenic waterway. The river offers protection and scenic beauty, making Stillwater consistently recognized as one of the best small towns in America. However, the real estate market in Stillwater is not without its challenges. McDonough highlighted the competitiveness of the industry, which can lead to inventory problems. To address this, he emphasized the importance of collaboration, information sharing, and effective communication among real estate agents and companies within the marketplace. By working together and helping each other, the real estate community can make the process smoother for everyone involved.McDonough also stressed the need for real estate agents to treat their profession as a business from day one. Many agents focus solely on transactions and wait for the phone to ring, rather than planning for their future. He compared being a real estate agent to owning a franchise, where keeping the doors open and actively seeking opportunities are

After discovering a Heuer dash clock back in the day, Jeff went down the same rabbit hole a lot of us do and started collecting. But after getting a sense that the community needed a place to go and have resources for all things vintage Heuer, Jeff sought out to start the website as we know it today and has grown it ever since. I had a very interesting talk with Jim Rea today. Jim helps run the Masters show at the Autry Museum along with his wife, Jodie. We get the whole story of - not only the Autry show and how it began - but of how Jim, who started out in accounting, ends up being a critical component in this very important art show at an important museum.Jim is a guy who really liked art but wasn't trained in art. Just the opposite. He's a numbers guy. That being said, he sees the world change before his very eyes as he gets exposed to more and more to great art throughout his life. From 1998 until now, Jim and Jodie have managed to put together a collection of 150 spectacular paintings. So even without his commitment and affiliation to the Autry, he's an important collector. His story is one that gives hope to all those out there just starting their own collections. There's a message you can take away from the podcast and it's that you can go from not having anything to do with the art world, to actually being a leader in the field. So this is Art Dealer Diaries  Podcast #255 with Jim Rea.

Yesterday we had the FOMC, as expected they raised interest rates by 25bps and the commentary wasn't that different from the last meeting; They will continue to adjust policies based on incoming data and there won't be any rate cuts this year but potentially next year we could see cuts. Equities sold off initially, but have already recovered a bit.The next time we hear from the Fed will be in September, so there is a break there. If we do get good news on the next meeting it could lead to a nice rally. Crypto started to rise although just in the last half hour things have already started to pull back. It felt like crypto positions were sketchy. It feels like we are inversely correlated to stocks, which is an odd scenario.NFTsBit of a bounce over the last 24 hours in NFTs. Pudgies are back above 4 eth, and more hoodie punks continuing to trade. There is a wallet with 17 zombies that has awoken after years, a true Zombie wallet, with it's last activity being a Meebit claim. Nobody seems to know who the wallet is, but it does have a recently active twitter profile but speculation that they have an alt account and are in the space. There was an auction that happened at Sothebys, to much success, that seemed to take an opposite direction from the recent Christie's botch. 500 pieces that started as a dutch auction and landed in the 1 eth range, but the floor is now at 3 eth. The artist is over 90 years old!!!!! The Reddit NFT world has reached 14 million wallets now and something like 50 million in all time sales. GM Web3Recap - June 19, 2023Degenz Market Report by @osf_rekt and @rektmando Kind of quiet with equities being sworn over the past few opens and today is Juneteenth, so traditional markets are closed. We had a bounce back in crypto on Friday with BTC in the 26k range and ETH is sitting in the mid 1700's. The fact that Bitcoin ended higher on the close of the week last night is a good look. Although Ethereum was not named as a security, there are still questions to be answered regarding regulation from the SEC, and as a result, ETH continues to underperform$APE dipped below $2.00 yesterday making for some overshared screenshots on the timeline.Fidelity Investments is also joining suit and filing for a BlackRock style, spot Bitcoin ETF and have acquired Grayscale.NFTsStill a busy week for jpegs across the board. Yugalabs finger pointing was the trend over the weekend with the floor dipping quite a bit. A big liquidation event on BLEND is causing concerns that could result in a large batch of assets pushing the floor lower. Mando points out that this type of event has happened many times in the past and the collections tend to recover. The flurry around generative art seems to have gone quieter; Interest continues but volumes have seemed to halt after the resolution of the Sothebys auction."I think AI art is going to be bigger than generative art" - Hot Mando takeUpdatesNike announced they are holding a sneaker hunt inside of Fortnite titled Airphoria. The big takeaway for the space is seeing the dot.SWOOSH logo in the ending tying it back to Nike's web3 initiatives. YLTCICanary Labs is having an event in London in collaboration with W1 Curates with artwork being displayed at their gallery for the next couple weeks. The gallery features a load of great artists from the space representing pieces from OSF & Mando's collection as well as various pieces from the artists.STUBSWe had @apocalypticform on as this week's STUBS artist. He has been making art for 30 years and started with huge ambitions in the art world before becoming a Dad and having a family. He ended up continuing to create art on the side, inspired by his work and his view on how much culture affects society. The ideas in people's minds, their dogmas, their priorities were all things that piqued apoc's art. He interviewed people trying to shift societies for the better and leaders trying to make changes pre-covid.Jake the degen bought his first piece who was then followed by 6529. He officially went full time into art 2021 and has been going hard ever since. His work ranges from attempting to display the utopia side of potential outcomes in some of his work. Other pieces depict coarser ideas like the masks worn everyday, yet he uses color and themes outside of the usual dark imagery associated with something heavy like this. Hosted on Acast. The focus is very much in the Grails II auction as it displays the various stages of early generative art on chain. There are already something like 600 bids set for the pieces at auction. The auction house has also made attempts to inform and educate about generative art by holding panels and discussions around the art style and the history of it all. So, is it possible to make attending an art fair into a creatively fulfilling experience? Leading art advisor Nazy Vassegh addresses this with her boutique art fair, Eye of the Collector, located in the storied 2 Temple Place building in London. A Small Voice: Conversations With Photographers

After taking a degree in Documentary Photography at the University of Wales, Newport, Ivor Prickett began working in Europe and the Middle East, striving to convey and denounce the effects of war on the civilian population – on the people whose lives it ravages and uproots, whatever side they may be on. Initially focused on the private, domestic sphere of war's long-term social and humanitarian consequences, Ivor's gaze has shifted over the years towards places of forced migration and lands where people seek refuge, and then to the front lines of combat zones. His early projects focused on stories of displaced people throughout the Balkans and Caucasus. Based in the Middle East since 2009, Ivor documented the Arab Spring uprisings in Egypt and Libya, working simultaneously on editorial assignments and his own long term projects. In 2012 he was selected for the World Press Photo Joop swart Masterclass, named as a FOAM Talent and selected by PDN for their 30 under 30 list. Travelling to more than ten countries between 2012 and 2015 Ivor documented the Syrian refugee crisis in the region as well as Europe, working closely in collaboration with UNHCR to produce a comprehensive study of the greatest humanitarian crisis in recent history. Most recently Ivor's work has focused on the fight to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Ultimately working exclusively for the The New York Times he spent months on the ground, particularly covering the Battle of Mosul, reporting in both words and pictures. His work in Iraq and Syria has earned him multiple World Press Photo Awards and in 2018 he was named as a Pulitzer finalist. The entire body of work titled End of the Caliphate was released as a book by renowned German publisher Steidl in June 2019. Ivor's work has been recognised through a number of prestigious awards including The World Press Photo, The Pulitzer Prizes, The Overseas Press Club Awards, Pictures of the Year International, The Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize and The Ian Parry Scholarship. Most recently he was shortlisted for the Prix Pictet 2019 cycle and his work is currently touring the globe as part of the group exhibition. His pictures have been exhibited widely at institutions such as The Victoria and Albert Museum, Sothebys, Foam Gallery and The National Portrait Gallery, London and he currently has a major solo show at Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia, Italy, In conjunction with the 2023 Fotografia Europea festival, for which the theme is Europe Matters: Visions of a Restless Identity. Ivor's show and the corresponding book is entitled No Home from War: Tales of Survival and Loss and features over fifty photographs taken in conflict zones from 2006 to 2022. It is the the largest show of Ivor's work to date, the first in italy, and it will be up until 30th July 2023.Ivor is represented by Panos Pictures in London and he is a European Canon Ambassador. In episode 203, Ivor discusses, among other things:His route to Newport and what he got from going there. How he got started and his strategy to get his work seen.Arab Spring 2011 and the lessons learned from that.Branching out and needing to get closer to the source.Mosul.The NYT and being asked to write.Going through times of wanting to quit. What keeps him doing it.Is an art gallery the right place for photojournalism? Can your work have an impact?Ukraine.Processing the witnessing of horror and adjusting to normal life.AI and its implications for photojournalism.Referenced:Christine RedmondJoe StirlingKen GrantClive LandonCheryl NewmanTim HetheringtonChris HondrosDavid Furst Website | Instagram“By the time it came to the ISIS work in Iraq and Syria, it was almost like I wanted to get closer to the source myself and see up close what it was I'd been investigating all these years and what people had been running from. He was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and raised in Miami, He went on to earn a B.A. in Political Science from Amherst College. Sabato's work seeks to reconfigure traditional understanding of photography and digital media, by interrogating how hegemonic structures distort and influence individual subjects. Sabato began experimenting with glitch processes in 2011. Since then, his work with glitch and digital media has been exhibited throughout the world, including spaces like Tate Britain, ICA Boston, The SPRING/BREAK Art Show, LACDA, and the FILE Festival. His work has also appeared in Vogue, TIME, WIRED, The New York Times, AI-AP's “Latin American Fotografia 4” Anthology, and in Photographer's Forum annual “Best of Photography” books for eight straight years. This is a conversation about post photography processes, new media art and the democratizing of access to making and sharing art. It's a conversation about a digital community sharing ideas and tools to propel what is possible in photography even further. It is a conversation about mining the roots of digital creation to exploit nostalgic technologies to produce art. It's a conversation about returning to the basics to answer fundamental questions about making art and the future and hybridity of mediums. Is it a coincidence that Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI is also working on WorldCoin? Worldcoin, co-founded by Sam Altman, is betting the next big thing in AI is proving you are human | TechCrunch. Fake virtual identities pose challenges for social media platforms and society in general. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, conceived Worldcoin to serve as proof-of-personhood. Worldcoin aims to create a global ID, currency, and app for payments, purchases, and transfers. Users download the app, have their iris scanned, and are added to a database of verified humans. Worldcoin creates a unique cryptographic hash tied to the person's identity. The startup has received $125.5 million from investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Coinbase. Privacy concerns and biometric data security have led to public skepticism. Worldcoin is now under a parent organization called Tools for Humanity. The company aims to create the largest financial and identity system, preserving privacy and inclusivity. Worldcoin has 1.2 million users; it needs billions more to be effective. To gain momentum, the company is launching an SDK for developers to incorporate its tech. Critics question the company's objectives, technology, and potential use of the Worldcoin currency. Competitors exist, but Worldcoin believes its physical-world approach has advantages over online solutions. NFTs can be used to authenticate an author by leveraging their unique properties, such as ownership, provenance, and scarcity. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how NFTs can be used for author authentication:   Digital Identity Creation: The author creates a digital identity on a blockchain platform, which can be linked to their real-world identity. This could include verifying their identity through social media profiles, government-issued IDs, or other means of authentication.   NFT Minting: The author mints an NFT for their written work, such as a book, article, or blog post. The NFT contains metadata with information about the work, including the title, publication date, and a unique identifier (e.g., a cryptographic hash of the content). The author's digital identity is also associated with the NFT, proving that they are the creator of the work.   Ownership Transfer: When the author's work is sold, licensed, or transferred, the ownership of the NFT is also transferred, maintaining the work's provenance. This allows anyone to trace the ownership history of the work and verify that the current owner has the legal right to distribute or use it.   Verification Process: Readers, publishers, or other interested parties can verify the authenticity of the author's work by checking the NFT on the blockchain. They can ensure that the work is genuine, not plagiarized, and originated from the claimed author. This process can be facilitated by dedicated platforms or tools that make it easy to verify the NFT's authenticity and view the associated metadata.   Ongoing Updates: As the author continues to create new content, they can mint additional NFTs and associate them with their digital identity. This creates a verifiable catalog of the author's works, showcasing their legitimacy and building their reputation in the literary community.   Using NFTs for author authentication not only establishes a strong connection between the author and their work but also helps to protect their intellectual property rights, reduce plagiarism, and encourage responsible content creation.   Affordable project: https://metaverse.sothebys.com/   find artists and shop their other work.  News Bitcoin Transactions Hit Record High as New Token Type Takes Off The Block: Blur, Paradigm devs unveil p2p lending protocol for NFTs  OpenSea Ex-Head of Product Convicted in NFT Insider Trading Case - Decrypt Blur NFT Volumes Have Cooled Since Airdrop, But It's Still Number One - Blockworks Sotheby's Metaverse: A Game-Changer in the NFT Marketplace | NFT CULTURE | NFT News | Web3 Culture | NFTs & Crypto Art  Sports Illustrated Embraces Ethereum for NFT Event Tickets - DecryptLeBron James Spotted in RTFKT NFT Nike Sneakers  What Are xNFTs? Its been a soft start in traditional markets with Nasdaq and S&P both down around 0.2%. Earnings report came in yesterday with headlines focused on Tesla reporting a 20% drop in net income and earnings from last year. Leveraged positions in crypto are getting liquidated, BTC down to $28k and ETH is hanging out around mid $1900's. It seems like the greed and euphoria was a bit high these past few days and this should be a good reminder that things are never up only.@rektmando sees this as a period of consolidation and speculates that we will be bouncing around the $30k & $2k range for both of the respective coins. Both the punks and apes are below 50 eth without any signs of recovery until the BLUR rewards farming ceases. Miladys up to around 2.5 eth floor but overall collections are bleeding out. The timeline is full of the $hitcoins and all of their splendor. $PEPE continues to be the talk with a slew of others joining in the whirlwindCryptopunks floor did not move during all of the crypto crisis, the black swan events AND, ETH moving violently across a tall range. Now we are seeing it slip and it all seems due to the effects of the BLUR rewards farming. The reward system creates a constant downtrend pressure by offering incentives for less than desirable trading behaviors.@punk9059 discussed the ratio of new participants vs the farmers in the Vortex of BLUR rewards not being healthy. The incentives are going to stay and people will keep playing the game. It is hard to see where this ends.We are currently at 8k active traders!? This is a tough stat, down from somewhere around 70k traders at the peak. However, the onboarding continues with things like Starbucks odyssey and @Sorare using blockchain to reach masses with no market trading involved. The stage imagines that the BLUR marketplace has a tough road ahead of it. The overall sentiment towards it has shifted on the timeline. There are still BLUR maxi's but the TL is negative and not supportive.Today Sothebys is opening up auctions to the "grail" collection from 3ac (RIP). Punks, Fidenza's and a ton of different desirable collectibles.@punk9059 points out that Sothebys is approaching this massive sell in a slow calculated way that will protect floor prices, the exact opposite of a clump sale scenario like we see on BLUR. They aren't dumping the 30 Fidenzas all at once because they understand collectibles and know that this would destroy the market value. They will sell things bit by bit over a longer period of time.Nakamigos announce an announcement that something is coming which led to a decent run in their floor.@johnkarp, who was made honorary Rug Radio Intern during the show, came on to talk about @The_Lost_Wallet. They are a quest based, story game project that has a Cryptopunk up for grabs out there somewhere in the lost wallet! They are also giving away a Nakamigo! Episode 340- Veteran art handler and preparator Bryan Cooke talks about: Cooke's Crating, the business he started back in 1975, and how it's essentially a service business, one that has grown with the art market, particularly in the last 10 years; why they don't use the word ‘art' in the company title, and how they discreetly move art around, especially high-priced works; how and why he self-published his book, Art Can Kill; some of his near-death experiences in art handling, including two involving elevators (one of my least favorite places); why he put himself in the line of risk, shielding his employees from danger; and he tells a condensed version of an epic story from the book in which a client for all intents and purposes kidnaps Bryan and his colleague during a moving job, on a large estate outside Chicago.

If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be?“Something that I am passionate about because we get it so wrong is; How we value and remunerate our work?”_________If you've been lucky enough to travel to Uluru and see the breathtaking light installation at the base of the monolith you'll be excited to meet my guest today! The ‘Field of Light' as that art installation is known, was a project that initially was only going to showcase for a few short months but has become so popular that it's been extended time & again. It truly is a breathtaking sight. The Field of Light is the brainchild and magical work of British artist Bruce Munro who is very well-known for producing large immersive light-based installations in many locations around the world. These dynamic exhibitions are made up of thousands of components and incredible logistic feats in their own right - let alone being so beautiful and bringing so much joy to all those that see them. Bruce is an artistic diarist, who has spent over 30 years collecting and recording ideas and images in his sketchbooks, which he returns to over time as source material. Language, literature, science, and music have also greatly influenced his work. Frequently, Bruce's subject matter is his own experience of fleeting moments of rapport with the world and existence in its largest sense of being part of life's essential pattern. His reoccurring motif is the use of light on an environmental scale in order to create an emotional response for the viewer. Bruce completed a B.A. in Fine Arts at Bristol in 1982. Shortly after he moved to Sydney where he worked in design and lighting, inspired by Australia's natural light and landscape. Returning to England in 1992 he settled in Wiltshire, but his love for Australia was never lost and it was fitting when he finally got to realise his dream to light up the Central desert in such a magical way. Bruce's work has been shown at Museums and Botanical Gardens internationally, notably, Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, The Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Waddesdon Manor for the Rothschild Collection, Buckinghamshire; Beyond Limits 2016 for Sothebys at Chatsworth House; Messums, Wiltshire and the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne. His work Field of Light continues to be exhibited at Uluru, NT, Australia, Sensorio, California, USA and at the LBJ Wildflower Centre in Austin, TX, USA. Bruce's work is held in private and public museum collections internationally including Cheekwood Garden and Art Museum, TN, the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford and Texas Tech University TX.Whilst he's a global superstar in this world as his work has been featured at Museums and Botanical Gardens internationally, it was Bruce's down to earth manner and sheer love of creativity and the process that I remembered fondly the first time I met him all those years ago. I'm so happy to be sitting down with him once again. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did - Bruce is such a wonderful being and brings such joy to the world. For more information about Bruce, check out these places;-Website: www.brucemunro.co.uk Instagram: @brucemunrostudioFacebook: @brucemunrostudioHead to michellejcox.com for more information about the ONE QUESTION podcast, your host or today's guestsConnect with Michelle on Linkedin here:- @MichelleJCoxConnect with Michelle on Instagram here:- @michellejcoxConnect with Michelle on Facebook here - @michellejcoxAND, if you have a burning topic you'd love people to talk more about, or know someone who'd be great to come on the One Question podcast, please get in touch;- hello@michellejcox.com
