Dom Giordano, WPHT host and former teacher, has dedicated much of his daily show toward parents who are taking it into their own hands to push back against school boards that have a negative impact on their children. This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards. First, Beth Ann Rosica, executive director of Back to School PA PAC, returns to discuss multiple issues playing out on the micro-local scale at school board meetings throughout Pennsylvania. First, Giordano and Rosica discuss the decision by Conestoga officials to call an emergency virtual day over ‘threatening statements' concerning masking, after students in the Tredyffrin/Easttown school walked out to protest overbearing masking mandates. Then, Giordano and Rosica discuss a situation playing out in Chester County, with parents filing a petition to recall board members after continued frustration over baseless mandates. Then, Conestoga High father Andrew McLellan and his attorney Gary Samms join Dom to discuss a controversy unfolding at the high school in the Tredyffrin-Easttown school district after threats were levied following a student-ran walkout protesting masking mandates. McLellan's son was one of many who faced violent and racist threats after being one of the organizers of the protest, which stems from a lawsuit presented by McLellan and other parents against the district over overbearing mask mandates. McLellan and Samms contextualize the situation from their viewpoint, and tell what the school district has done to lead both parents and students feeling they have no other option than to create a disruption. Finally, Kenny Xu, author of An Inconvenient Minority: The Attack on Asian American Excellence and the Fight for Meritocracy, returns to discuss a recall election out in San Francisco due to treatment of Asian students in the school district. Xu sets the stage for the situation unfolding in San Francisco, telling of the demographic makeup of the city and the strength of the Asian-American community. Also, Giordano asks Xu about the mindset of those who call Asian-Americans ‘white adjacent,' telling how the racist notion only counters the narrative those who employ it hope to perpetuate.

Full Hour | In today's second hour, Conestoga High father Andrew McLellan and his attorney Gary Samms join the Dom Giordano Program to discuss a controversy unfolding at the high school in the Tredyffrin-Easttown school district after threats were levied following a student-ran walkout protesting masking mandates. Then, Giordano continues the discussion centered on the controversy at Conestoga High School, asking listeners what they drew from the interview with Samms and McLellan. After that, Giordano and his producers discuss the side question in depth, taking caller suggestions for great songs for a first dance between a bride and a groom. Finally, producer Dan brings his Dan Time with Dom, providing an update on both the Ben Simmons and James Harden introductory press conferences after the trade between the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets. Soma Rasa: Soma Rasa was formed in 1997 by brothers Bill & Dan Hazard along with Shannon Jessop. Over their career, they’ve released three albums and have shared stages with the likes of Moby, Fatboy Slim, Roni Size & Regurgitator. In 2005, they met with legendary LA hip-hop act Digital Underground to record the single ‘Say What You Say’, which was met with critical acclaim and lasted in the AIR charts for 12 whole weeks. Recorded & mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Brisbane Powerhouse, Brisbane. 6th September 2014. Kindergarten: Recorded last year at 4ZZZ’s Happyfest by Andrew McLellan, the duo in question are Mino Peric and Josh Watson. Between them, they’ve played instruments with the likes of No Sister, Sewers & Dag. This particular show was quite special as the Kindergarten was created as an experimental act exclusively for Happyfest, and sees Mino & Josh taking their first forays into electronica with two turntables, a drum machine and a synth. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at The Underdog, Brisbane. 22nd August 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 13 February 2015. Show production and engineering: Branko Cosic.
Alessandro Bosetti: Italian artist Alessandro Bosetti probes the slippage between information and pure sound in speech – the point at which language becomes music and at which music becomes a language. With Mask Mirror, the work he performed at Liquid Architecture, Alessandro uses a synthesiser to manipulate spoken word samples from field research, interviews, conversations and soliloquies to develop elaborate abstract live compositions. More specifically, Mask Mirror is an instrument that contains thousands of fragments of language – some words some only syllables – that have been arranged into categories. Each key on his keyboard corresponds to a different category and when pressed will produce a random word or sound corresponding to that category. Alessandro responds to the instrument – that is also uses his voice – in real-time and the results are often intriguing and also humorous. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Liquid Architecture 2014, IMA, Brisbane. 1st October 2014. Bianca Hester: Bianca Hester is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Sydney College of the Arts. Her work convergences between social space, materiality and embodiment as processes in motion. For Liquid Architecture Bianca produced a work entitled ‘Sonic alterations of constructed space with metal object’ that uses a number of blue metal rings. When spun, the metal of the rings meets the materiality of the ground, generating a sonic signature that reverberates as a sequence of dissonant cross-rhythms. The rings temporarily seize the space in which they are set forth, incorporating it into their hypnotic rotations. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Liquid Architecture 2014, IMA, Brisbane. 1st October 2014. id m theftable: id m theftable is an American sound artist whose performances consist of stream of consciousness speech/mumbling, narrative and manipulated utterances. He’s released dozens of of LPs and tapes on his own music label, Mangdisc. These releases range from glitchy sonic pastiches to field recordings. It mirrors id m theftable’s own work, which sits in a grey area between what most would think of as conventional music performance and sound collage. Id m theftable’s performances can be manic and engaging, there is no barrier between the artist and audience. The manipulation and perversion of language has never been this enjoyable. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Liquid Architecture 2014, IMA, Brisbane. 1st October 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 21 November 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.
Police Force: With a name as hot as the beat in Queensland, Police Force combine thick tropical rhythms with blistering guitar damage. Comprising of members from Cobwebbs and Woodboot, they’ve kicked off their garage boots and flung themselves face first into a haze of glory. Recorded & mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Underdog, Brisbane. 15 August 2014. Clare Quinn: Clare Quinn, a songstress originally hailing from Gympie and now based in Brisbane, sings on the conditions of the human heart: love, life, loss and learning. Channelling Celtic and folk rhythms and combining them with an indie-folk sensibility, Clare’s music is unassuming yet filled with memorable melodies. Her songs are underpinned with a lackadaisical charm, and suited to quiet hours with warm company. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at 4 Layers of Zed, Brisbane. 29 March 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 7 November 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.
Andrew McLellan, Pitt Rivers Musuem, gives a talk on how the Pitt Rivers Museum has been using academic research to create new educational activities
No Magic: No Magic is the latest project of Lewis O’Leary, the currently Brisbane-based songwriter and artist behind Old Growth Cola. He’s recently returned from living in Montreal for the last year, where he relocated following his previous band’s US tour. His new artistic outlet was established in Montreal and stemmed from his time experimenting with sound sculptures and other Arduino controlled devices. That isn’t to say that he’s forgone the pop-sensibility that has underpinned his past musical projects, if anything he’s really stepped up his game on those catchy melodies. Recorded & mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Bearded Lady, Brisbane. August 7th 2014. Enderie Nuatal: Enderie Nuatal is the solo techno project of Andrew McLellan, who also happens to be the brainchild behind the industrial-funk band Cured Pink. Andrew obviously has a diverse range of influences going on – Cured Pink draws inspiration from bands such as Cabaret Voltaire, SPK, Neubauten; the Enderie Nuatal moniker though is taking from early Prodigy, Aphex Twin and Monoton. In late 2013 he had his debut release on Canberra record label Moontown Tapes, it’s called ‘Sueno Yate’ and Google translate has told me it’s Spanish for ‘Dream Yacht’. Isn’t technology amazing? Recorded by Branko Cosic. Mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at The Haunt, Brisbane. July 4th 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 22 August 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.
Abstract Mutation: Abstract Mutation is the pseudonym of NZ-born Melbourne-based producer James Grant. His music sits somewhere between Acid House and Techno, and incorporates incessant loops, mechanical hi-hats and fuzzy synths. His most recent release on 1080p – the label of Rose Quartz’ Richard MacFarlane – sounds like a dancier Pye Corner Audio exploring themes of surveillance and digital environments. Taking 21st century introspection and media cycles into the outside world. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Red Mecca, The Pound, Brisbane. June 20th 2014. Dust Storm Jogger: Chelsea Charlton is one half of the Brisbane electronic duo Brainbeau, but the buck doesn’t stop there. He’s played under a tonne of pseudonyms over the last decade or so: Emotional Hoon, Smorgaslord and Good Samaritron to name just a few. He’s a mysterious figure, who cuts a mean beat with a pair of MPCs. It’s worth noting that more often than not Chelsea will be playing those drum patterns by hand in real-time, no sequencer at all. He’s also an accomplished drummer, in the analog sense. He’s done his time in left-of-centre rock bands. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Red Mecca, The Pound, Brisbane. June 20th 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 8 August 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.
Tralala Blip: Tralala Blip formed in 2007 when Randolf Reimann (Massappeal) became involved with a Lismore disability service that ran music programs for persons with intellectual and physical disabilities. Frustrated with the lack of engagement in the program he began bringing along electronic music equipment to the sessions. His tenure at the disability service ended in late 2008 and he was told that none of the 16 participants were interested in continuing the service. After meeting with a few members of the ensemble it became clear that the project was not cut due to a lack of interest and in 2009 Randolph continued the ensemble not as a program but as an independent band. Since then, they’ve recorded a collaborative LP with fellow Lismore sound artist ‘Muttboy’ and released an album on Brisbane label Disembraining Machine. In 2013, the current lineup of Randolf, Mathew Daymond, Lydian Dunbar, Zac Mifsud and Phoebe Rose were invited to play Unsound festival in Krakow, Poland. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Red Mecca 2, The Pound, Brisbane. June 20th 2014. Wukir Suryadi & Tarquin Manek: Wukir is one half of Senyawa – a duo with vocalist Rully Shabara that draws from traditional Indonesian folk music and combines it with a punk sensibility. He’s become well known in experimental music circles for his captivatingly intricate instruments. In this recording you’ll hear him playing a javanese hurdy gurdy that he constructed. It’s very fitting that he be paired with Tarquin Manek (Bum Creek, Pikelet and Tarcar). Tarquin’s irrepressible clarinet bleats hysterically above the discordant harmony of the hurdy gurdy, sometimes they meet in perfect harmonic distortion. There is a veritable bag of tricks at their disposal and the performance goes through a myriad of textures and styles. Recorded by Tarquin Manek. Recorded at West Space Gallery, Melbourne. May 7th 2014.
Ela Stiles: You might know Ela Stiles from some of the bands she’s played in over the last couple of years: Songs and Bushwalking. It was that band Songs which she began with Max Doyle that saw he focus shift from modelling to music. With Karl Scullin (Kes Band, Mum Smokes) and Nisa Venerosa (Fabulous Diamonds) there is Bushwalking, a psych three-piece that she originally formed to work on her solo songs. It turned out to be more of a band than a solo project and they released their second LP ‘ No Enter’ in September last year. Now it’s 2014, it’s time for something new and completely different. Ela’s debut record boasts a completely acapella B-side, which takes a lot of guts. Recorded by Josh Watson & Mino Peric. Mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Brightside, Apr 4 2014. Tight Slip: Tight Slip were a band active in the Brisbane underground rock scene around 2011-2013. They spun-off from another group called ‘Loose Grip’ a band which consists of the members of Tight Slip plus one Sam McCabe. Both groups were the brain-child of Kieren Lavering and while Loose Grip had a 7” on Bedroom Suck Record, Tight Slip regrettably have nothing to show for their short run bar a few live recordings on vimeo. There’s still time for this power pop powerhouse to make a comeback. Maybe this will motivate them. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Black Bear Lodge, Aug 24 2012. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 16 May 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.
No Sister: No Sister are a young Brisbane band, not everyone in the band has reached legal drinking age yet. Almost. One influence sits on the tip of my tongue, Sonic Youth, of course there’s a few similarities between the New York of myth and legend and these river-city upstarts: the male/female call and response vocals, the loud effected jazzmaster/jaguar guitars. Recorded by Branko Cosic and Cameron Smith. Mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at 4ZZZ Studios, Mar 28 2014. Heir Fuller: At only 16 years of age Heir Fuller’s J. H. Fuller shows maturity and patience beyond his years. He and his band make widescreen rock, reminiscent of contemporary mostly instrumental rock bands like Sigur Ros and Mogwai, bands that these days play to thousands at summer festivals around the world. Heir Fuller aren’t just taking cues from the big leagues though, the recording of theirs I’m about to play for you is actually a cover of another Brisbane group, Still Rain Fell. It’s called ‘Nolstagia’ and they stretch out the minute and a half long tune to double it’s length with restrained introspection, and some rain for good measure. Recorded & mixed by Will Clarke. Recorded at 4ZZZ Studios, Mar 29 2014. Cyclone Trio: Cyclone trio are Tony Irving, Tim Green and Massimo Magee. Two drumkits and a saxophone. Imagine if Beck chose that path instead. Tony Irving moved to Australia in 2005 but in the 90s he was playing across the UK with noise band Ascension opening for groups like Sonic Youth and playing with the music greats like Lol Coxhill. He’s teamed up with some young avant provocateurs involved in the Brisbane free noise circles of Audiopollen and Real Bad. Recorded & mixed by Will Clarke. Recorded at 4ZZZ Studios, Mar 29 2014. Gerald Keaney and The Gerald Keaneys: Gerald Keaney and The Geraald Keaneys played a special live music week show at the Underdog pub. Gerald Keaney and his namesakes are political, snarky and brash. True punk lifers. The band is Gerald’s vehicle for his own enigmatic philosophies on life, pop music, modern society. I’ve chosen two songs from their set to play for you. Their classic tune ‘Toombul’ and another song in the spirit of morse-code, ‘Time Travel’. Recorded by Josh Watson. Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at 4 Layers of Zed, Mar 29 2014. Tape/Off: Tape/Off have been around since 2009 but they’re only getting to releasing their debut record this year. All the members are busy with other creative jobs and projects such as recording, music journalism and radio announcing. Which is fair enough. They play dynamic alternative rock that sounds more informed by Australian 90s guitar rock rather than any overt overseas influence. Watch out for a tour when that debut album comes out on Sonic Masala this June. Recorded by Matt Hall. Mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at 4 Layers of Zed, Mar 29 2014. Rohan: Rohan have a hard-rock edge reminiscent of conemporary rock institutions like Kings of Leon Queens of the Stone Age. Think big rock. They have nods to the greats from the past like Zeppelin and Sabbath as well as echoes of Soundgarden. Recorded by Will Clarke. Mixed by Rohan. Recorded at 4ZZZ Studios, Mar 29 2014. Clare Quinn: Clare Quinn is a young singer-songwriter originally hailing from Gympie. Clare has dabbled in folk and celtic music and used it as the stepping-stones for her own humble melodies. She’s a complete natural on the stage, which you can hear from her relaxed banter in these recordings. Recorded by Andrew McLellan. Mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at 4 Layers of Zed, Mar 29 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 2 May 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.
The Wrong Man: They’ve been playing shows in Brisbane more frequently in the past six months, what with now having the support of local label Swashbuckling Hobo behind them in the form of a recently released 7” EP. Fred Gooch and Daniel Decsi make up the duo with Fred taking guitar and vocal duties and Daniel backing on drums. Fred performed solo until he employed Daniel in early 2013, with the addition of a drummer Fred’s music has gotten wilder and more energetic. Recorded by Matt Hall. Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The The Hideaway, Mar 15 2014. Multiple Man: Multiple Man were one of the local supports for the evening, they’ve been a popular support band for a lot of touring bands in the last year. They’re slowly starting to step out in their own right, having released a 7” on Melbourne label Detonic Recordings as well as playing shows in Sydney and Melbourne semi-frequently and with them heading south once again it seemed as good a time as any to revisit the Campion twins’ strangely retro-futuristic hacker-rock. Recorded & mixed by Andrew Mclellan. Recorded at The Alliance Hotel, Sept 27 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 4 April 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.
Nana Vigilante: Nana Vigilante is the pairing of Lindsay Roser and Julian Saunders. They’re very BNE-centric – Lindsay raps of her fondness for the brown river city quite often. Julian’s production has reflections of 90s Aus hip-hop on some tracks while others have a more industrial noise influence. You can probably guess that they are indeed a hip-hop duo, something you don’t usually see in a Brisbane pub. OPERATION PUT BRISBANE ON THE MAP! Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at The Underdog, 21st February 2014. Curlew: Curlew, a Brisbane based duo that are a bit reminiscent of Gareth Liddiard but some with post-rock undertones and a hint of Mum Smokes. Long songs are their thing, they played only a two-song set at The Waiting Room on February 14. Mark Zian and Callum Wheeler make up the duo. Is it anti-punk or completely punk? It’s hard to say. Mark sings of rats tails and childhood, it sounds a bit like therapy. Recorded & mixed by Joshua Watson. Recorded at The Waiting Room, Feb 14 2014. Snotty Babies: Two dynamic women front Snotty Babies while some fellas back it up. They’re penetrating and dynamic, like their close friends, Housewives. A new generation of Sydney punk has been fermenting over the last few years and it’s only getting more agitated and energetic. Members of the group are also involved with: Mope City, Housewives, Drown Under, Beef Jerk and Julia Why. Recorded & mixed by Luke Walsh. Recorded at The Greenslopes Bowls Club, Feb 22 2014. Thigh Master: Recorded by Joshua Watson & Andrew McLellan Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The Underdog, Feb 8 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 14 March 2014. Show production and engineering: Joshua Watson.
Circular Keys: Circular Keys are an electronic duo from the big smoke, Melbourne. Their enormous live-presence comes from the 6-string axe; Dennis Santiago shows you how much you can accomplish with an aluminium guitar and a table of pedals. While he’s preoccupied with laying down the law of audio-land, singer Phillipa O’Shea isn’t stuck in the background corner with the equal parts massive and angelic vocal chords. Room 40 invited them up to Brisbane to support Mark McGuire for the annual sound and media festival, Open Frame. Recorded & mixed by Joshua Watson Live at The Brisbane Powerhouse, 14 September 2013 Lucy Cliché: Lucy Cliché is Sydney’s Geneva Jacuzzi or Nite Jewel or Maria Minerva; an electronic artist flitting between the worlds of experimentalism and bedroom-pop. Her diverse catalogue includes the noise-rock band Naked on the Vague, Half High her ambient-noise project with partner Matthew Hopkins and the celebration of weird that is Knitted Abyss with Holy Balm’s Anna John. October 2013 saw an independent release for her debut solo album, Picture Yourself, a collection of songs as melancholic as they are beautiful. Blank Realm invited her up for their record launch to play a few of those picturesque pop songs. Recorded by Joshua Watson & Andrew Mclellan. Mixed by Joshua Watson. Live at The Underdog, 8 February 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 21 February 2014. Show production and engineering: Joshua Watson.
Blank Realm: Some are already calling 2014 ‘the year of Blank Realm’ and why not? They’ve received glowingly positive reviews for their new record, Grassed Inn, from the likes of Pitchfork; Mojo; The Wire and The Guardian. The Brisbane quartet are taking their psychedelic slacker-rock worldwide and all good plans have to start somewhere so they started last week at The Underdog in Brisbane. The live recording team were there for an album launch full of drunken revelry, a celebration of all things realm. The crowd were dancing all around the racket, at one point one lucky punter found themselves clinging to the lighting rig for dear life. Supports on the night were local garage-pop brats Thigh Master, frown-rockers Sewers, Sydney’s electro/experimental heroine Lucy Cliché and living-room rave band Four Door. Live @ The Underdog, Feb 8 2014 Recorded by Joshua Watson & Andrew Mclellan. Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 14 February 2014. Show production and engineering: Joshua Watson. Kudos: Dusty Anastassiou.
The Native Cats: Fresh from polling #4 in the Mess and Noise critics choice in 2013 for their 2013 blockbuster ‘Dallas’, The Native Cats are on Live Delay. Coincidence? I think not. We’ve got this extra special pre-xmas gift for all you listeners out there – The Native Cats playing live on stage from the Alliance Tavern in Brisbane back in September 2013. If you’ve never heard of the band before, they’re made up of Peter Escott and Julian Teakle and formed in Hobart in 2007, playing their first show on Australia Day 2008. Since then they’re released three full length records, toured extensively both in Australia and in the United States. Calling the likes of The Fall and New Order influences, they’ve got this great pastiche of noise and stream of conscious style lyrics floating around in the sonic crevices between your brain and your motor functions. It’s great stuff. We’re pretty stoked to be able to bring this full length live set of The Native Cats. There’s also a special feature interview with Julian from the band to break up the sweaty dance floor with. Recorded and mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at the Alliance Tavern, Brisbane, September 2013. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 20 December 2013. Show production and engineering: Darragh Murray. Thanks: Andrew McLellan, Julian Teakle.
School Girl Report: The duo known as School Girl Report hail from Bateman’s Bay on the south coast of New South Wales. Made up of the godhead of Samuel Miers and Daniel Oakman, they compose weird, erratic and an almost indescribable cacophony of sound. It’s often dark, perhaps industrial, but most import of all – it’s something fresh and different from the usual Live Delay stable – and hey! We EMBRACE difference here. As far as I can see, they’ve released one tape via Do You Block called ‘Success is Dating School Girl Report’ but been a fairly active live band – playing a load of shows over the past three years up and down the east coast of Australia. The live set we’ve got for you is from the duo’s trip up to Brisbane to play 4ZZZ’s Red Mecca night at the Alliance Tavern in Spring Hill. The band played alongside the likes of Four Door, Native Cats and a few others. You should definitely tune in. Recorded at the Alliance Tavern, Brisbane, September 2013. Recorded and mixed by Andrew McLellan. Amateur Childbirth: Amateur Childbirth is the stage name of Brisbane artist Ivan Matthew. Influenced by the work of Henry Miller, he’s an artist unafraid to delve into uncomfortable subject, illuminating everyday events with a cynical but earnest take on modern society – done all with just an acoustic guitar. Live Delay were fortunate to be present to record Amateur Childbirth when he took the stage at Tribal Theatre back in May 2013 as part of the Guilt Retreat – a multi-disciplinary visual and musical arts series. Tune in to hear some honest live music. Recorded by Will Clarke & mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The Tribal Theatre, Brisbane in May 2013. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 13 December 2013. Show production and engineering: Darragh Murray. Thanks: Will Clarke, Dusty Anastassiou, Andrew McLellan.
The sermon preached by The Very Rev. Dr. Andrew McLellan at Dunfermline Abbey on Sunday 17th November 2013
Raw Prawn: I guess you’d call them a Sydney super group? Raw Prawn combine members from Holy Balm, Whores and Camperdown and Outs into one magnificent punk rock beast. They call themselves weird punk (so I believe) but it’s guitar music laced with urban depression and everyday minutiae. There’s some understated pop hooks lurking beneath these tunes as well. This set comes the band’s 2013 performance at 4ZZZ Happy Fest back in July 2013 and showcases the band’s excellent set of live chops. Recorded by Murray Paas Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The Zoo, July 2013. Useless Children: Melbourne’s Useless Children are LOUD. Extremely loud. And last year the visited Brisbane to launch their excellent second full length record, Post Ending/Pre Completion. A three piece made up of drummer and vocalist Cinta Master, guitarist and vocalist Rob Bonnett and bassist Steve Patrick, the trio are an unrelenting force, emerging from their punk rooms to add in brutish noise dynamics and other sound experiments. Recorded by Andrew McLellan and Darragh Murray. Mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at The Waiting Room, Brisbane, September 2012. Airing details: Zed Digital (8pm Friday 4 October 2013) & 4ZZZ FM (11pm Thursday 10 October 2013) Show production and engineering: Darragh Murray. Thanks: Murray Paas; Andrew McLellan, Dusty Anastassiou.
DZ Deathrays: Dynamic two piece from Brisbane hit their stride in recent years, graduating from intense house party gigs to the world stage after UK tastemakers NME cast their gaze upon DZ Deathrays. Well known for their intense and legendary house party gigs and their outrageous music videos, they released the well received debut record Bloodstreams in 2012. This live set may be slightly more sombre than the usual DZ Deathrays experience, but still profiles many of the best angles of their recent work. Provided to Live Delay by our friends at FBi Radio in Sydney, this is a live set not to be missed. Recorded and produced by FBi Radio, Sydney. The Garbage And The Flowers: The Garbage And The Flowers are Yuri Frusin and Helen Johnstone and they’re known for the off kilter pop music that comes out at strange angles. Originally hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, the duo moved to Sydney about a decade ago and have remained fairly quiet since – emerging every now and then to remind fans of their esoteric loveliness at the most opportune times. I swear ‘Love Comes Slowly Now’ from their opus Eye Rind As If Beggars is one of the most beautiful songs ever penned. Tune in to here them at their marvellous best. Recorded by Andrew McLellan. Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The Bridge Club, Brisbane, August 2012. Airing details: Zed Digital (8pm Friday September 13 2013) & 4ZZZ FM (11pm Thursday September 19 2013) Show production and engineering: Darragh Murray. Kudos: FBi Radio Sydney, Andrew McLellan, Dusty Anastassiou.

Bitch Prefect: Bitch Prefect are Pat Telfer, Scott O’Hara and Liam Kenny and once upon a time emerged from a sharehouse in Adelaide, but, like so many other bands do, moved to Melbourne a few years back. In 2012 they put out their debut record via bedroom suck by the name of ‘Big Time’, a well-received release that featured the deliciously depressing but wholly relatable single ‘Bad Decisions’. The band managed to make it up to Brisbane in August 2012 during the launch tour for Big Time and played 4ZZZ’s GET HAPPIER festival and we were fortunate enough to be present to get a recording. Recorded by Andrew McLellan. Mixed by Harry Byrne. Recorded at the Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane in August 2012. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 2 August 2013. Secret Birds Digital sound manipulator Damon Black heads Secret Birds, a musical project that shrugs off definition. It teases us with pyschedelia, draws us in with ambience, and takes us to some mythical plane of existence. Will Clarke captured Secret Birds in all its glory at The Waiting Room in Brisbane back in January 2013 as part of the well-respected Sonic Masala gig series. Holy Balm: Psychedelic electric jams, punctuated by drum machines, acoustic percussion and waves of synth, Sydney’s Holy Balm bring their minimalist dance music to the Live Delay stage, ripping it up in front of a packed house at 4ZZZ’s Get Happier Fest back in August 2012. Recorded and mixed by Andrew McLellan, 2012 Recorded at The Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane, August 2012 Four Door: Four Door describe themselves in four words – techno, synths, creeps, bleeps. And I guess that’s a very accurate although simplistic description of the group’s housey weirdness. Four Door are actually Jonathan Hochman and Matthew Hopkins, two dudes from Sydney who are fond of things electronic. You might recognise Hochman from his duties with Sydney trio, Holy Balm, whereas Hopkins plays in Naked On The Vague. Four Door have played with the likes of Blank Realm, The Garbage and The Flowers and New War, but came up to Brisbane in October last year to play the Lost Race Festival at the Cooparoo Bowls Club in the city’s inner south. Recorded and mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at the Lost Race Festival, Cooparoo Bowls Club, November 2012. Airing details: Via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday June 21 2013. Production and engineering: Darragh Murray. Thanks: Andrew McLellan.
