Chores. Nobody's favourite topic. But possibly the most underrated parenting tool in the whole toolkit. In this episode Stephanie makes the case that chores are not really about having a clean house. They are about belonging. About raising kids who understand that families are not hotels, that everyone is crew, not passengers, and that the work of keeping a life running well is something you learn young or struggle with later. From the "item on the stair" hack that never worked, to the dishwasher rotation that taught the golden rule better than any conversation could, to watching her adult son plan his cleaning day from across the country, this episode is honest, warm and grounded in twenty+ years of real family life.Including the research finding that the best predictor of a young adult's success in their mid-twenties was whether they did household chores at age three or four. Not grades. Not sport. Chores. There are no magic fairies. Teaching our kids this might be one of the most loving things we ever do.Lazy Parenting Podcast | Episode 82 | lazyparenting.ca | @lazyparenting

Eveyone wants a quick fix when it comes to fitness. But, there is none. No pill, protein or supplement is going to do what hard work and consistency are there for. Tune in today to hear what I mean.
In this episode, I'm going to be talking about the concept of the "magic pill" and I'm going to be especially using it to talk about risk for HPV-related cancer, specifically cervical cancer in women. But I encourage you to listen in regardless of what health issue you're dealing with to better understand the mindset, perspective, and paradigm shift that I see my patients making in order to truly transform their health. The magic pill concept is about a fictional or hypothetical medication that can miraculously heal or cure any kind of health issue from a single pill without any side effects or limitations. I think we can all relate to this – we would all love it if there was some magic pill we could swallow that takes away all of our pain, whether physical or emotional, cancer risk, or whatever troubles we're experiencing in our life. Wouldn't that be amazing if we could just take a pill and it all goes away? When we get a headache, we immediately think, "Where's that pill I could take to make the headache go away?" Sometimes it works – we take a pill and the headache disappears. The problem is if we get a headache every day and take that pill every day, eventually that pill can start to have side effects and negative impacts on our bodies. At that point, even if that pill is taking our headache away, it might be causing a stomachache, for example. This is the limitation of taking a medication or substance we often turn to for a quick fix. As humans, we have to learn to stop ourselves from chasing that next shiny object, hoping that one thing is going to fix everything and we're never going to have to think about it again. We need to realize that the reality is that most often, things are not really fixed with a magic pill. They're more often resolved with true intention and transformation. On Tuesday evenings, 8pm ET/5pm PT, come to Macro ‘n Chill, where we listen to the most recent episode of this podcast and discuss it with the community. https://realprogressives.org/rp-events-calendar/ “Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon, in the sense that it is and can be produced only by a more rapid increase in the quantity of money than in output.” Milton Friedman This quote by the grandaddy of neoliberal economics is from 1963. Some in the mainstream have been dining out on it ever since. According to our guest, author and blogger Brian Romanchuk, neoclassical economics relies on mathematical models and fail to capture the complexity of real-world inflation. He highlights the importance of understanding the supply and demand dynamics in setting prices and explains that inflation can be influenced by factors such as supply chain shocks and changes in the labor market. Brian also points out that it's not enough to blame inflation on corporate greed; after all, corporations are always driven to maximize profits. He mentions the Cantillon effect, which suggests that the first recipients of newly created money benefit from inflation as prices go up, while the poor and working class bear the brunt of higher prices down the road. Brian and Steve discuss inflation constraints on fiscal policy. Brian argues that while extreme fiscal policies could lead to inflation, most of the time, fiscal policy is relatively moderate and does not have a significant impact on inflation. They criticize the government for not trying to set prices and argue that the government often follows the private sector's lead, making things worse. Brian Romanchuk is the author of several books, including Modern Monetary Theory and the Recovery. He is the writer and publisher of bondeconomics.com. His writings can be found in his substack, The BondEconomics Newsletter. @RomanchukBrian on Twitter
The last week in gaming has been a bit of a downer, no doubt. But we don't dodge the news; we lean into it. And frankly, it's not all bad. Quite the contrary: Ghost of Tsushima is coming to PC, Spider-Man 2 has finally received a major update, and the STALKER Trilogy is migrating to console for the first time ever. But then there's drama surrounding a random DEI-slanted consultancy called Sweet Baby Inc., the closure of the storied media brand Rooster Teeth after more than a decade of running in the red, and word that the publisher behind 2023's biggest commercial hit wants to abandon the model it followed for greener pastures. Listener inquiries help us round-out a strange seven days, focusing on topics like crossover fighters, Marty O'Donnell entering the political realm, Helldivers 2's newest patch, and one listener who was 'caught' playing an anime game, and had a lot of explaining to do at the dinner table.
