Verbal aspect in the Greek language has been a topic of significant debate in recent scholarship. The majority of scholars now believe that an understanding of verbal aspect is even more important than verb tense (past, present, etc.). Yet there still are no alternative accessible textbooks, both in terms of level and price. In the second edition, Constantine R. Campbell investigates the function of verbal aspect within the New Testament Greek narrative in light of the last fifteen years of the latest scholarship.  In Basics of Verbal Aspect in Biblical Greek, Second Edition, Campbell has done a marvelous job in this book of simplifying the concept without getting caught up using terms of linguistics that only experts can understand. The book includes expanded and updated discussion, revised exercises, an answer key, a glossary of key concepts, an appendix covering space and time, and an index of Scriptures cited. Professors and students, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, will use this is as a supplemental text in both beginning and advanced Greek courses. Pastors that study the Greek text will also appreciate this resource as a supplement to their preaching and teaching. Constantine Campbell is Professor and Research Director at the Sydney College of Divinity, and previously served as Professor of New Testament studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago and Moore Theological College in Sydney. His first doctorate is in ancient Greek language and linguistics (Macquarie University, 2007). Campbell is the author of 19 books, with focus on ancient Greek, New Testament interpretation, and the apostle Paul. His book Paul and Union with Christ was the 2014 Christianity Today Book of the Year in Biblical Studies. His latest releases are Reading Paul as Christian Scripture (Baker Academic, 2024) and Basics of Verbal Aspect in Biblical Greek, second edition (Zondervan Academic, 2024). Campbell was co-chair of the Biblical Greek Language and Linguistics section of the Society of Biblical Literature, and is an Associate Editor of the Zondervan Exegetical Commentary series. He is an elected member of the preeminent scholarly guild, Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas. Campbell is also a highly regarded jazz saxophonist and is a visiting instructor at The Australian National University School of Music. His second doctorate explores the fusion of jazz and traditional Greek urban music (Australian National University, 2024). He is the presenter of two documentary series on the apostles Paul and Peter. Campbell lives in Canberra, Australia. Jonathon Lookadoo is Associate Professor at the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea. While his interests range widely over the world of early Christianity, he is the author of books on the Epistle of Barnabas, Ignatius of Antioch, and the Shepherd of Hermas, including The Christology of Ignatius of Antioch (Cascade, 2023). Greek verbs have been traditionally labeled “tenses,” but many grammarians have for some time argued that “tense” is not the best way to explain what is going on. The linguistic category of “aspect” is a more powerful theoretical explanation. But what is “verbal aspect” and how does this theory affect the reading of Greek texts? Dr. Constantine Campbell is Professor and Research Director at the Sydney College of Divinity (Norwest, Australia). He has published widely on Koiné Greek grammar and the New Testament writings. Examples include, Basics of Verbal Aspect in Biblical Greek and The Letter to the Ephesians. The Pillar New Testament Commentary. He is also a jazz saxophonist and a visiting instructor at The Australian National University School of Music.  Check out related programs at Wheaton College: B.A. in Classical Languages (Greek, Latin, Hebrew): https://bit.ly/4elFSSP  M.A. in Biblical Exegesis: https://bit.ly/3zDIfl0

What's the number one factor that determines whether a chiropractor will have success in practice? I get asked this question all the time and my answer is simple…CERTAINTY! A rock solid certainty in what you do and the value that it delivers to your patients and the wider community will make up for just about every other short coming in practice. For many chiropractors though, the journey towards developing certainty is akin to Frodo's journey in Lord Of The Rings… it's full of dragons, failure and unclimbable mountains. The good news is, it doesn't have to be that way. Martin Harvey is back on the podcast this week and he shares a brilliant framework that helps chiropractors navigate through this journey in a predictable manner. Following Martin's process will improve your certainty in chiropractic! Enjoy the show. Thanks for all you do. In 2000, I successfully completed a Master of Science degree in Family and Sexuality Studies in the Faculty of Medicine of KULeuven, Belgium. Both my PhD and STD were defended at KULeuven in 2014. In my career I have served a diocesan pastoral worker for the Archdiocese of Armagh in Ireland in a very varied role as well as Adjunct Lecturer and later Lecturer in Biblical Studies at All Hallows College in Dublin, Ireland, as well as Co-ordinator for the Office of Pastoral Renewal and Family Ministry (OPRFM) for the Archdiocese of Armagh. Part of my professional development while in post in Armagh included successfully completing my training as a professional facilitator with the Belgian Institute of Cultural Affairs' outreach programme in Ireland. I have worked as Lecturer in for Carlow College, Carlow, Ireland teaching Theology and Biblical Studies. Since August 2016, I have been working as Lecturer in Biblical Studies – teaching both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures – at the Catholic Institute of Sydney and I am a founding member of the Sydney College of Divinity's Centre for Gospels Research. Recently I have begun to seek out new opportunities beyond my role at CIS and welcome contact for future collaborations.

Donna Green, photo by Joe Kramm Donna Green wrestles with coils of stoneware, manipulating and prodding to create anthropomorphic gestural shapes that burst and stretch into space. Her physical experimentation challenges the properties of the clay, resulting in works that seem to be in a constant state of growth and transfiguration; heroically scaled urns undulate and drip with layer upon layer of glaze. Green draws inspiration from the ancient Jomon ceramics of Japan and Chinese Han Dynasty storage jars, as well as Gonshi, the naturally occurring scholars' rocks, and Baroque garden grottos. Donna Green was born in Sydney, Australia, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design in 1984 from Sydney College of the Arts in New South Wales. In 1985, Green moved to New York and joined Industrial Design Magazine as one of its editors. She began working in clay in 1988, studying at Greenwich House Pottery and the New School in New York, and in 1997 at the National Art School, Sydney. Green has participated in numerous workshops including “Fire Up,” 1995 with Janet Mansfield in Gulgong, New South Wales, working on-site with Danish artists Nina Hole and Jorgen Hansen, and “The Vessel as Metaphor” in 2018 with Tony Marsh at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Snowmass, CO. In 2019, she was a Resident Artist at California State University Long Beach. Later that year, she undertook an Artist Fellowship at Greenwich House Pottery. Green has exhibited at Hostler Burrows, New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA; McClain Gallery, Houston, TX; Greenwich House Pottery, New York, NY; Utopia Art Sydney, Australia; SIZED Studio, Los Angeles, CA; and the Leiber Collection, East Hampton, NY. Before discovering homeopathy, Susanna worked in Medical Research at Johns Hopkins Medical School and the University of Virginia Medical Schools in the USA. Her lifelong interest in spirituality however, led her to Scotland where she completed a postgraduate degree in Theology at St Andrews University as well as postgraduate work at Harvard Divinity School. Midway through her theological training she was introduced to homeopathy. After a great personal response to treatment she decided to pursue formal training in homeopathy with the National Center of Homeopathy (USA) and The College of Homeopathy in London in the 1980s.  Before migrating to NZ in 1991, she established a free children's clinic in rural Kent and practiced at the South London Natural Health Centre in Clapham where her special interest in perinatal homeopathy began -- many of her clients were pregnant women and she worked closely with birth educators and midwives at that time. In 1991 Susanna arrived in NZ, began teaching at Wellington College (WCOH), Hahnemann College in Auckland and Bay of Plenty College of Homeopathy (BOPCOH) in Tauranga.  That same year, she co founded a journal for the NZ homeopathic profession: Homeopathy NewZ and set up Selene Homeopathics— to supply quality homeopathic remedies to the profession and community.   She was an editor and co-director of these until 1994 and 1998 respectively.  In the 1990s Susanna continued to practice homeopathy and extend her tertiary education and management skills. In 1991, Susanna registered with and joined the Executive of the NZ Institute of Classical Homeopathy and was appointed Dean of BOPCOH. She served on the NZICH Exec until 1996 and when the New Zealand Council of Homeopaths (NZCH) was formed in 1999, became an Exec, serving til 2006 and then again from 2009-2012.  She was awarded the Life Membership of the NZCH in 2015 . In the early 90's, Susanna established practices in Taupo and Wellington while teaching at WCOH and BOPCOH. From 1994-2012 she served on the NZQA Expert Panel on Homeopathy (which became the Homeopathy Profession Advisory Board in 2008); this group wrote the NZQA Unit Standards for homeopathy and developed the NZQA National Diploma and in 2008 reviewed these and established agreed training standards for the profession.  At BOPCOH she pioneered comprehensive distance education in homeopathy with College founder Greig Follas—initially via VHS, then DVD creating the platform for comprehensive online learning options. In 1995, Susanna settled in Tauranga, became Principal of BOPCOH. She strongly fostered collegiality between NZ homeopaths and overseas colleagues presenting cases and papers at professional conferences in NZ, Australia and USA. Susanna led the College to many significant milestones:accreditation with the NZQA; approval by the Ministry of Education (MOE) for student loans and allowances and approval of the College's Diploma of Homeopathy in Animal Health by NZQA and MOE. In 2004, Susanna was a guest tutor in homeopathy at Hong Kong University and later that year became owner and Principal of Sydney College of Homeopathic Medicine (SCHM).  From 2004-2008 Susanna was Principal and CEO of both BOPCOH and SCHM and managed the NSW registrations and approvals of the Sydney College during that time.  In 2008, Susanna's duties re-focused to NZ when she was appointed Director of Operations NZ for Endeavour College of Natural Therapies which includes ongoing duties as Principal of BOPCOH. From 2012-2020 Susanna took a 'sabbatical' from homeopathic teaching and management. During that time she co-owned and operated a successful VIP Toursim business based in the Port of Tauranga (NZ) catering to International cruise ship visitors.  She returned as Director of the College of Natural Health & Homeopathy (CNHH) in 2021 to help steer the College in its next chapter of growth. Susanna's vision for the profession has been and remains, “to have the highest level of homeopathic treatment available to the greatest number of people (and animals); at a reasonable cost to the consumers and a professional level of remuneration to the practitioners”. She sees the College as a key player in this vision as it works with the wider community to make it happen. Susanna is happily married to Karen.  She is proud co-parent of two successful and happy adult children and has been blessed by the love of many companion animals over the years.  Main hobbies are sustainable food and wine, travel, wellness and following the All Blacks Rugby Union team.

In this episode we are joined by Dr. Constantine Campbell, who is Professor and Associate Research Director at the Sydney College of Divinity and the author of a number of works in biblical studies and ancient Greek, as well as the book we're excited to discuss on this episode, Jesus V. Evangelicals: A Biblical Critique of a Wayward Movement (published by Zondervan Reflective). Over the course of our conversation, we discuss how American Evangelicalism is too politicized and partisan, too keen on power, and too focused on celebrity. We also chat about the difficulty of defining evangelicalism today since Bebbington's famous quadrilateral fits British Evangelicalism, but has less and less to do with American evangelicalism. Dr. Campbell distinguishes between three types of evangelicals – theological, cultural and political – as an attempt to bring clarity, but suggests that a new term altogether may be preferable to trying to salvage a term that has come to be associated with something far away from the nature of God as revealed in Jesus. Team members on the episode from The Two Cities include: Dr. John Anthony Dunne, Stanley Ng, and Rev. Dr. Chris Porter.

Evangelicals: A Biblical Critique of a Wayward Movement. In this conversation, we look at the question of divorce; specifically, what are the biblical allowances (if any) for divorce. Constantine takes a more generous view, which argues that the text of Scripture allows for more than just two reasons (adultry and abandonment) for divorce.

He was co-founder and principal of the Sydney College of Homeopathic Medicine for nine years. In 1994, Peter instituted a series of experiments with new medicines and developed a set of medicines made from crystalline substances, the "gem"' medicines. In this episode of The Walk; a devotionals podcast led by worship leaders, Steven Fry addresses one of the most common side effects of full-time ministry. We enter with passion for the ministry, but in our human failure that passion turns those serving into slaves of the ministry instead of servants of the almighty God.Steve is a pastor, worship leader, artist, playwright, and author. In his 50 years in ministry he has served in almost every role you can imagine. His wisdom for how to stay focused on what's important, which is his personal relationship with Jesus, over what's tangible and feels important, the daily work of the ministry, has been the key to sustaining him for those 50+ years. He pulls from a story that isn't often preached and comes from Ezekiel 44 and surrounds the Levitical Priests called the Sons of Zadok. This episode is sure to challenge and encourage anyone, whether you serve in full-time ministry or not. In essence, we are all ministers in whatever role we fill our daily lives with, so listen and please respond with comments and shares. It's almost impossible to describe these multilingual, non-narrative films in conventional plot terms – the former is set on the ill-fated cruise ship Costa Concordia and then in a family run petrol station – characters include a Nazi war criminal and a Russian detective. The latter was shot around Godard's house near lake Geneva and features a couple who are played by two different sets of actors, and a dog named Roxy (Godard's own). The shards of plot and character that both films offer find some solid ground on familiar Godardian obsessions: European identity; the Holocaust and the legacy of Western civilisation. Speakers are Miriam Ross from Wellington's Victoria University, Julian Murphet, director for the centre for Modernism Studies at the University of New South Wales, filmmaker and Deakin University film scholar Dirk de Bruyn and Alex Gawronski, artist and scholar from the Sydney College of the Arts.

Recent economic development in Vietnam has seen a proliferation of manufacturing. At the same time, Vietnam has embraced creative innovation as part of its move towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Throughout the country, new creativity and innovation practices are emerging. These practices provide a creative outlet, but also connect to bigger themes around industry, wellbeing, productivity, and climate change. In addition to his scholarly works, Con has several video teaching guides that are perfect for church audiences. We had a great time talking about the contributions John's letters make to the #NewTestament, and I was particularly drawn to the theory that 2 John serves as a cover letter of sorts to the Johannine #epistles. Why does God seem to act so differently in the Old Testament compared with the New Testament? It's critical to consider the context and culture of the various events recorded throughout the Bible in answering this question. In this sermon we are delighted to welcome guest speaker Randy Edwards to HumeRidge where he will guide us through this process to discover God's character. About Randy: Randy Edwards, accompanied by his wife Marie, arrived in Australia in 1977 to fill in as a lecturer at Kenmore Christian College in Brisbane. That year became 35 years during which he had two stints as Principal of the college, initiated the merger of Kenmore with the Sydney College, was integral in undertaking three complete revisions of the curriculum, and enabled the college to adopt a distance education programme that allowed students to remain in their home church where they were supported by those around them. Having obtained Masters degrees in both New and Old Testament, he sought to help students read scripture in its original context and then apply their learning in both churches and contemporary society. He has been particularly focused on preparing students for the changing world rather than just for the present. For over 18 years he led an alternative church whose focus was to reach those who would not attend a traditional church service. During that time, he and his wife also volunteered to help feed the homeless in Fortitude Valley on weekends and public holidays. Now retired, he tries to encourage the next generation of Christian leaders who seek to be relevant in a very fast changing world. If you enjoyed this sermon please consider subscribing. It was the influence of his then-girlfriend (and future wife) that motivated Marcus to enter chiropractic school. He enrolled at Macquarie University (then the Sydney College of Chiropractic). Before finishing at Macquarie, he received a Bachelor of Science in Anatomy from the University of New South Wales. Then, he completed a Master of Chiropractic at Macquarie. Marcus had the good fortune to be mentored by Dr John Kelly, a well-known chiropractor who taught him the value of constantly learning more and working with other practitioners to show clients the results they seek. Marcus' approach to care looks at healing on all levels. With an integrated model of care, we achieve remarkable results for people where other avenues have failed. Marcus seeks to uncover and understand the needs of each client with the appropriate testing, then holistically apply the best forms of therapy for a total healing blueprint. Marcus has lectured and worked as a tutor at the Canberra Institute of Technology in Psychology. He's provided medical science courses for the Kim Dudley College for Natural Therapists. With his additional studies in kinesiology, Marcus became an instructor in the subject.

The Chiropractic world must pay attention to what has happened, is happening, and will be happening in Australia. Significant forces against vitalistic chiropractic in Australia have spurred the launch and fundraising for the Australian Chiropractic College. Dr. Marcus Chacos is one of the doctors spear-heading much-needed fundraising for the Australia College. At school, Marcus was fascinated with the human body and healthcare — so much so, in fact, that when he won an award for public speaking and debating, he bought an anatomy and physiology textbook with his prize money! To expand his knowledge, Marcus has completed a significant number of postgraduate studies, including a graduate degree in Clinical Nutrition and a Master's in Chiropractic Sports Science. Marcus' approach to care looks at healing on all levels. Marcus has lectured and worked as a tutor at the Canberra Institute of Technology in Psychology. He's provided medical science courses for the Kim Dudley College for Natural Therapists. With his additional studies in kinesiology, Marcus became an instructor in the subject. He's even studied quantum physics and symbolism to work on an incredibly profound, holistic level with his clients. Recently, he has been campaigning to impact chiropractic for the better and to raise funds for the ACC. One event raised $80,000 for the ACC, and his last program, the Neuroscience of Chiropractic, raised $100,000 for the ACC. On this podcast, you'll heat Dr. Chacos discuss: Chiropractic philosophy in Australia The need for a strong Chiropractic philosophical presence around the world The importance of paying attention to and supporting Chiropractic globally. May this episode inspire you to impact Chiropractic for the better. Make sure you listen throughout until the end, because it will inspire you to give more to your practice, your community, the Chiropractic profession and the world. Part of the 2016 Festival of Urbanism. A conversation on the divergence of Sydney and Melbourne’s cultural policy between the University of Melbourne’s Dr Kate Shaw and the University of Sydney’s Dr Oliver Watts. SPEAKERS: Dr Kate Shaw is an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow in Urban Geography and Planning at the University of Melbourne. Her current research focuses on urban renewal in the 21st century. Accepting that the economic case for growth combines with the environmental case for limiting urban sprawl to produce an irresistible logic for increasing the densities of Australian cities, the research explores ways of improving on the renewal projects of the last 50 years. The current project examines the legislative, regulatory, financial, political and cultural barriers to socially equitable urban development, and pursues practices elsewhere that do it better. Kate’s background is in alternative cultures. She has particular interest in Melbourne’s live music and indie arts scenes, and advises governments and local campaigns on planning and policies to maintain them. Dr Oliver Watts is a writer, practicing artist and cultural theorist. Oliver lectures in theory at The University of Sydney, Sydney College of the Arts. He writes regularly for The Conversation and Buro 24/7 on cultural and aesthetic issues of the day from architecture to fashion. His work looks at how power and authority is reified in cultural artefacts. He sees buildings particularly as manifesting cultural history and ideology, society’s concerns, hopes and biases. Not only do buildings mirror our society but they also help create the pattern of our lives. Oliver most recently spoke at the 2016 Vivid Idea Sydney event ‘Voice of the Artist: Age of the Image’.

Alessandro Bosetti: Italian artist Alessandro Bosetti probes the slippage between information and pure sound in speech – the point at which language becomes music and at which music becomes a language. With Mask Mirror, the work he performed at Liquid Architecture, Alessandro uses a synthesiser to manipulate spoken word samples from field research, interviews, conversations and soliloquies to develop elaborate abstract live compositions. More specifically, Mask Mirror is an instrument that contains thousands of fragments of language – some words some only syllables – that have been arranged into categories. Each key on his keyboard corresponds to a different category and when pressed will produce a random word or sound corresponding to that category. Alessandro responds to the instrument – that is also uses his voice – in real-time and the results are often intriguing and also humorous. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Liquid Architecture 2014, IMA, Brisbane. 1st October 2014. Bianca Hester: Bianca Hester is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Sydney College of the Arts. Her work convergences between social space, materiality and embodiment as processes in motion. For Liquid Architecture Bianca produced a work entitled ‘Sonic alterations of constructed space with metal object’ that uses a number of blue metal rings. When spun, the metal of the rings meets the materiality of the ground, generating a sonic signature that reverberates as a sequence of dissonant cross-rhythms. The rings temporarily seize the space in which they are set forth, incorporating it into their hypnotic rotations. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Liquid Architecture 2014, IMA, Brisbane. 1st October 2014. id m theftable: id m theftable is an American sound artist whose performances consist of stream of consciousness speech/mumbling, narrative and manipulated utterances. He’s released dozens of of LPs and tapes on his own music label, Mangdisc. These releases range from glitchy sonic pastiches to field recordings. It mirrors id m theftable’s own work, which sits in a grey area between what most would think of as conventional music performance and sound collage. Id m theftable’s performances can be manic and engaging, there is no barrier between the artist and audience. The manipulation and perversion of language has never been this enjoyable. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Liquid Architecture 2014, IMA, Brisbane. 1st October 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 21 November 2014. Ann Elias, Associate Professor, Theoretical Enquiry, Sydney College of the Arts, The University of Sydney Abstraction’s dissolution of form, surrealism’s estrangements of vision and collage’s disorientation of perspective were trends in modernist photography that were also vital in Australia for the development of wartime camouflage. With war culture creating a new consciousness of the body in relation to surveillance technologies, Australian photographers including Max Dupain were deployed to enable and empower the camouflaged body. Where in everyday social life it was the body’s distinction that mattered, in wartime it was its disappearance. This paper discusses war culture and the central role of photography for achieving the body’s protective obliteration.

Merilyn Fairskye, Associate Professor, Photomedia, Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney Ukraine has been the site of volatile political, social and cultural change over hundreds of years. The 1986 Chernobyl nuclear accident is of a different order of magnitude to everything that has gone before. This paper draws on two field trips to Ukraine and the new work Fairskye created to consider what it is an artist can excavate in the aftermath of such a catastrophe. It also considers the differences between artistic and documentary forms of expression. A/Prof Merilyn Fairskye makes videos and photography. Her videos have been screened in film and video festivals around the world including the International Film Festival Rotterdam; Videobrasil; Sydney Film Festival and in art museums including Tate Modern London; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, and the National Palace Museum, Taipei.
