Hidden in the hills near Gympie, Queensland, sits a structure that has sparked decades of debate: the Gympie Pyramid. To some, it's evidence of an ancient civilisation or Egyptian contact with Australia. To others, it's nothing more than a terraced hillside built by early European settlers. In this episode, Holly and Matthew dig into the claims, the history, and the investigations surrounding the site. Where did the pyramid theory come from? What evidence has been presented — and what holds up under scrutiny? It's a story where archaeology, speculation, and local legend collide.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weird-crap-in-australia--2968350/support.

Woolooga Yowie ReportsIntroductionToday's focus is on two distinct Yowie sightings that occurred at the same location, six years apart. The area is situated fifteen minutes west of Gympie, Queensland—a region well-known for its numerous Yowie encounters over the years. First Yowie ReportThe initial sighting involved a female passenger who spotted a Yowie in a field. She urged the driver to turn back so they could get a better look, but he refused, and the opportunity to observe the creature was lost. The encounter was particularly notable for its description: the Yowie was likened to an Orangutan, standing motionless like a statue and making eye contact as the vehicle sped past.Second Yowie ReportThe second sighting, also at Woolooga, took place six years after the first. This time, the Yowie was not stationary but instead was seen running and obliged to cross the road as the vehicle approached. This report highlights a stark contrast in behaviour compared to the initial encounter.Location Description and AdviceThe site of these sightings consists mainly of farm fields with sparse tree cover. Surrounding these fields are mountains with dense forests, high peaks and deep valleys, all part of the Great Dividing Range (GDR). This vast corridor of forest stretches along the entire eastern side of Australia, providing ample habitat for wildlife, including reported Yowie activity. One memorable situation involved a rural house where the owner had an opportunity for “Bigfoot bartering”. Instead of engaging, the owner installed sensor lights. For rural properties experiencing regular Yowie visits and disturbances, installing sensor lights and trail cameras is recommended as an effective way to reduce unwanted encounters. For more comprehensive information, reports and history of the Yowie, visit our Website at www.yowiehunters.comSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/yowiehunters-witness-reports. When 35,000 Allied paratroopers dropped into Holland in September 1944, four Australians from opposite corners of the continent found themselves at the heart of one of World War Two's most catastrophic operations. In this remarkable episode, Mat McLachlan reveals the forgotten Australian stories of Operation Market Garden. Through authentic accounts and personal testimonies, we follow Keith Prowd from Gympie as his burning bomber falls from the sky at 550 feet; Alan Wood from Sydney, typing dispatches while German mortars explode around him; John Hackett from Perth, leading bayonet charges before being hidden by three Dutch sisters who risk everything to save him; and Tom Hall from Melbourne, whose Typhoon rockets try desperately to keep Hell's Highway open. From Prowd's Death March through frozen Poland to Hackett's months in hiding during the Hunger Winter, these four men experienced Market Garden from every angle - in the air, on the ground, and through the typewriter keys that would preserve its history. Their stories capture not just the military disaster, but the extraordinary humanity that emerged from catastrophe. Why did the de Nooij sisters risk execution to hide a stranger? How did Alan Wood keep typing as the battle raged? What drove Keith Prowd's mates to carry him through freezing temperatures when dropping him would save their own lives? Mat explores these questions through the actual words of the men who were there.A powerful testament to the Australians who fought at Arnhem - and the Dutch civilians who saved them."If in years to come any man says to you, 'I fought with the Arnhem airborne force,' take your hat off to him and buy him a drink." - Alan Wood, September 1944Episode Length: 24 minutesFeatures: First-hand accounts from Keith Prowd's 2003 interview, excerpts from personal memoirs and on-location insights from Arnhem and OosterbeekPresenter: Mat McLachlanProducer: Jess StebnickiReady to walk in the footsteps of heroes? n this episode of the Proper True Yarn Podcast, Knuckles welcomes comedian Nick Capper for a fast-paced yarn about stand-up, the wild unpredictability of small-town gigs, and the unexpected doors a viral joke can open.Nick starts by shouting out some of his favourite comics — from close mate Dan Rath, whose material either annihilates a room or clears it entirely, to the razor-sharp Luke Heggie, plus international inspirations like Dave Chappelle, Maria Bamford, and Tig Notaro. The conversation turns to Nick's friendship with fellow comic Andrew Hamilton (“Hamo”). Nick shares how a Proper True Yarn podcast mention helped turn a doomed Shepparton tour stop into a packed, electric night. Originally expecting just five people, Hamo's Facebook post — fuelled by listeners and locals — brought dairy farmers straight from the milking shed, boots on and all, to a heaving comedy crowd. The Shepp gig ended in a classic country night out, complete with stories about dodgy strip clubs, inventive electricians dimming the lights for the dancers, and the unique party energy of rural Australia.Nick then talks about opening for US comedy star Matt Rife — a connection born from a viral bit about the urban myth of Marilyn Manson and Prince removing ribs to perform a certain act on themselves. Rife saw the joke back when he had only 30k followers, promised to work with Nick if he ever toured Australia, and followed through once his fame exploded into the millions.Throughout, Knuckles and Nick riff relentlessly — from self-deprecating digs at their own careers, to absurd rib-cage surgery extensions, to playful shout-outs to Gympie and Nambour. The yarn is a blend of behind-the-scenes comedy hustle, the magic of unexpected gigs, and mateship-fuelled storytelling at its loosest and funniest. Hosted on Acast. Bronwyn Holm speaks to Liz Gunn about her recent article on a specific pillar of Agenda 2030, which aims to take away all of our private property rights through local council bureaucratic overreach. Below is the full writeup by Bronwyn. The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 is a non-binding international agreement adopted by UN member states — including Australia — to guide disaster risk management globally. It focuses on reducing disaster risks (like bushfires, floods, pandemics, etc.) to protect lives, livelihoods, and property. What is the Sendai Framework?Adopted by the UN in March 2015 in Sendai, Japan.Aims to reduce disaster risk and loss of lives, homes, infrastructure, and the environment.Covers both natural hazards (like storms, droughts, fires) and human-made disasters (like industrial accidents or biological threats). It focuses on four key priorities:Understanding risk — using data, science, and communication to assess hazards.Strengthening governance — national and local policies, laws, and institutions.Investing in resilience — infrastructure, land use, emergency services.Improving preparedness — early warning systems, community plans, recovery frameworks. What Does It Mean for Your Home or Property Rights? Here's where it gets concerning — especially for property owners:Key implications:Local councils and governments may rezone or restrict your land (e.g. declare it flood/fire-prone) based on “disaster risk,” and claim it aligns with the Sendai Framework.Biosecurity or disaster powers might be extended using Sendai-aligned policies to justify actions like:Forced relocationCompulsory land acquisitionDestruction of property deemed “unsafe”Barriers to rebuilding after disaster unless you meet strict criteriaYou might lose autonomy over rebuilding or land use after a declared disaster or in a designated “risk zone.”MEANING you will lose your property.RENTING people means your owners have lost your property where you live.Important Note: The Sendai Framework itself is not law — but Australian governments use it to justify domestic policy changes, including:State disaster legislationEmergency management powersBiosecurity measuresHousing development limitsWhat Are Your Rights? You still own your home and land unless it is forcibly acquired under state or federal legislation. If affected by rezoning, forced acquisition, or development bans, you may have legal rights to:Challenge decisions in courtSeek compensationPush for community consultation (though this is often limited)You can object to planning changes through local councils (though not always successful). GYMPIE has passed theirs past recently- so every one needs to go to the council meetings and object.Joining private land trusts, Indigenous Corporations, or PMAs (Private Membership Associations) may help you reclaim autonomy in future structures.Earthfood: www.yourearthfood.comBan Dic Dan (Victoria Campaign): https://bandicdan.com

When Kirra-Lea McLoughlin died on a property near Gympie, Queensland, law enforcement and medical examiners were baffled. Kirra's former partner would claim she went to sleep after a fight and simply didn't wake up. Family said there had been a party at the property the night before, but neighbours disputed that. Kirra's body had 105 signs of bruising, and there was a 12 hour period where emergency services weren't contacted about her rapidly declining state. Former police officer Jamie Pultz met Kirra McLoughlin before her death. His podcast Beenham Valley Road investigates the case, talking to Kirra's friends and family, and looking into the events leading up to and following her death. Challenges will present along the way and there will be ups and downs. This week we wanted to talk about some the ways you can spend time with your dog that don't include working directly on their issues. This stuff is important for a lot of reasons and should be part of your training program and day to day life with your dog. _______________________________________________________ * *SPONSOR* * Einzweck Dogquip sells a wide range of quality training equipment.
