There has been a lot of chatter lately about changing the Minnesota walleye limit from 6 to 4. Currently, the 6 fish limit was set in 1956, with the rapid advances in sonar technology, boats, and angling hours…is it time for a change? In this week's episode, we sit down with Nate Blasing, guide and member of the Brainerd Walleye Alliance, to hear about his role in spearheading this movement. We also interview MNDNR Regional Fisheries Manager Brian Nerbonne, to get an idea of what anglers and stakeholders think of a possible change. We also touch on what current data collection strategies would help the DNR decide on this in the future.   Presented by: Strike Master (rapala.com/us_en/strikemaster), On-X Fish (onxmaps.com/fish), & Arnesen's Rocky Point Resort (arnesens.com/)

He has served as a law clerk to the United States Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit, and he has spent years in private practice as a trial attorney, mediator, and legal commentator. We discuss the state of Texas' prisons. There have been many heat deaths (41 in 2024). The Texas legislature has decided that there should be air conditioning in prisons by 2032. Effect, people who go to prison in Texas risk death, even for non-capital crimes.Texas is planning to study the deleterious effects of immigration in Texas, without looking at the benefits. The governor had decided to create a Texas version of DOGE. It should be pointed out that the Republicans have dominated Texas for the past 30 years. All blame for 'waste' should therefore rest on them. Douglas Burgum, the Interior Secretary, has allocated all authority to the Acting Assistant Secretary, Tyler Hassan. Hassan is a DOGE member. There have been massive layoffs of park rangers, and funding for parks has decreased. This is having an economic impact. Mining rights are being considered. The parks had a gain of $30 B in 2024, at a cost of $5 B.Part 2:We talk with Jonathan Feingold, who is an associate professor of law at Boston University School of Law.#RaceClass Ep. 40 | Dont Praise Harvard, At Least Not YetLast week, Harvard University started fighting back against Trump. In this episode of #RaceClass, Jon and Arnie discuss why immediate praise for Harvard is premature. To deserve our praise, Harvard needs to do more than defend itself. It needs to leverage its near $60 billion endowment to defend all universities against unlawful federal interference. Harvard need not do it alone. Following the lead of thousands of university professors across the country, Harvard should create a mutual defense pact that unites all of our campuses to protect our fundamental right to free and open inquiry free from intimidation, harassment or discipline. Moreover, Harvard needs to practice what it preaches and cultivate free and open inquiry on its campus. A start would include revising its anti-harassment policies by rejecting the IHRA definition of antisemitism and clarifying that speech criticizing Israel, Zionism or antizionism is legitimate discourse that does not itself constitute antisemitism.Music: Leanard Cohen, "Halleluja"WNHNGM.ORG PRODUCTION

My research focuses on international relations, including U.S.-China relations, China's grand strategy, and Northeast Asian security, as well as comparative politics, with a particular emphasis on political culture. We discuss the tariffs being imposed on Chines goods, and how this is likely to be perceived by the Chines government. The Chinese economy has been weakened, and now Trump may be perceived as the cause, thus helping the Chinese government shift blame, if any, on him. Weaknesses in the China are due to to export orientation, depopulation, the influence of Russia. However, China has many advantages that it can use to counter the problems. We discuss these advantages and opportunities that can help China "win" this trade war.Part 2:We talk with Chris Lehmann, who is the DC Bureau chief for The Nation and a contributing editor at The Baffler. He was formerly editor of The Baffler and The New Republic, and is the author, most recently, of The Money Cult: Capitalism, Christianity, and the Unmaking of the American Dream(Melville House, 2016).We discuss the pattern of the Trump administration of RENDITION, as opposed to deportation. Americans should be worried, because the pattern seems to be to simply kidnap people from their lives, and WITHOUT DUE PROCESS, or any evidence of wrong-doing, send them to another country, such as El Salvador. Trump has already raised the idea of doing this to American citizens.  Music David RovicsWNHNFM.ORG PRODUCTION

Now a Professor at Boston University, he draws on these experiences in both his Multinational Finance & Trade and Corporate Finance classes to give graduate students professional insights on these complex topics. A Senior Contributor to Forbes.com, he continues to write extensively on the capital markets. We discuss the effect of discouraging students from around the world from coming the the US for education. Education is our 10th largest export, and it contributes billions of dollars in both direct payments (tuition, rents, etc.) and also as multiplied by creating and supporting jobs in the US.The administration is targeting foreign students, by taking actions against them, by either cancelling visas, and deporting many students. This discourages potential students from coming. Additionally, the 'brain drain' thus caused will stifle much development and invention activity. Faculty will likely also choose to go to 'friendlier' countries to work. Colleges and universities, who are subsidized by international students who pay 'full freight' will lose revenues, and will likely have to close. Nationally, $2.3 Billion is the estimated annual revenue contribution.Part 2:We talk with Lori Wallach, Director, Rethink Trade Program at the American Economic Liberties Project.RethinkTrade.orgWe discuss how tariffs should work to aid a real economic plan. We discuss the role of targeted tariffs, and paired with investments in-country in economic development in the country, along with the economic advantages to workers as a result. Inbalances in trade can be resolved, but they must be more than a "beggar thy neighbor" policies, which do not work. The issues for Wisconsin remain important, and they are the protection of abortion in Wisconsin, union rights, and how redistricting will be done.Part 2:We talk with Mel Goodman, Senior Fellow at the Center for International Policy and a professor of government at Johns Hopkins University. A former CIA analyst, Goodman is the author of "Failure of Intelligence: The Decline and Fall of the CIA" and "National Insecurity: The Cost of American Militarism". and "A Whistleblower at the CIA." His most recent books are "American Carnage: The Wars of Donald Trump" (Opus Publishing, 2019) and "Containing the National Security State" (Opus Publishing, 2021). Goodman is the national security columnist for counterpunch.org.We discuss the recent scandal of Hegseth and his group using an insecure app to discuss war strategy and operations in real time. We note that this seems almost as a designed distraction from the other actions that are being taken by Trump, such as shutting down various agencies and denying allocated money to programs.Goodman also discusses the poor intelligence being presented to the Defense Department, through the flawed and slanted "threat assessment" reports. Everything seems to be by 'seat-of-pants' rather than real analysis. "Incompetent liars are in charge." Music: From David Rovics, “The Richest Man in the World Says So”, 2025

Featured speakers/guests:Part 1:We talk with Joe Jaworski, host of "The Midterms", and former mayor of Galveston, Tx.We discuss the censorship of speech and thought in Texas. We also discuss the makeup of the Texas legislature, and the likely issues that they will take up. One of them is the school voucher program, which the governor has pushed. We discuss the 'voucher profiteers' now in Texas.Part 2:We talk with Bill Curry and Robert Hockett. Curry is a former legislator in Connecticut, white house aide, and two-time candidate for Governor in Connecticut. Robert Hockett is a professor. We discuss the recent spate of 'disappearances' caused by ICE's abduction of persons who have voiced their opposition to the Trump campaign of random deportations. Masked ICR agents have abducted various people, without warrants, and have transported them to different states and countries. This is in direct contravention to a judge's ruling that this is not legal or warranted. The administration has threatened judge impeachments and withholding funding to the court systems. Those that have been disappeared are labeled as "pre-guilty', in contradiction to the Constitution's guarantees. This assault on persons, the law, and the courts is unprecedented, and reminiscent of Nazi Germany, to many. Music: From David Rovics, “The Richest Man in the World Says So”, 2025

Part 1:We talk with John Nichols, a national affairs correspondent for The Nation. He has written, cowritten, or edited over a dozen books on topics ranging from histories of American socialism and the Democratic Party to analyses of US and global media systems. His latest, cowritten with Senator Bernie Sanders, is the New York Times bestseller, It's OK to Be Angry About Capitalism. We discuss Musk's involvement in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race.We also talk about the latest Trump administration scandal: the attack plan against the Houhtis being discussed on Signal, a commercial chat. What will be White House do? Who, if anyone will be fired?Part 2:Race Class, with Jonathan Feingold.Ep. 39 | How Trump is Deploying Anti-Blackness and Antisemitism to Crush AmericaWe recorded about twelve hours after federal officers abducted a Tufts University graduate student. The student's apparent "transgression"? Writing an op-ed in Tufts' student newspaper advocating for Tufts to divest from Israel. To understand how we've reached this moment, we begin to unpack how President Trump is wielding both anti-Black racism and antisemitism to crush American democracy. The truth is, Trump is a terrific story teller. The story he's telling us, now, to justify his assault on our universities and our students marshals race as a political weapon. Trump is cementing a predictably fascist "us v. them" narrative that defines whiteness by Black inferiority and locates Jews as a scapegoat for his most vicious attacks on civil rights and democratic norms. Music: From David Rovics, “The Richest Man in the World Says So”, 2025

"Everything everywhere all at once" .Part 2:We tak with Ron Abramson, Chair of Shaheen & Gordons Immigration Law Group.Ronald Abramson encabeza el Grupo de Inmigracion en el despacho de Shaheen y Gordon. We discuss the recent deportations of Venezuelans swept up in raids, some for only having tattoos. Fear is growing among immigrants across the country. This includes the undocumented, green card holders, and naturalized citizens, and, even born citizens. Immigration lawyers are being targeted. People are being abducted and are disappearing. The Democratic Party's response is disappointing.  Music: From David Rovics, “The Richest Man in the World Says So”, 2025

Part 1:We talk with Jeet Heer, National Affairs Correspondent, The NationWe discuss the behavior of the Democratic Party. The are ineffectual, and leadership is lacking, with the exception of Bernie Sanders and AOC. They are following a program of cowardice, as exemplified by Schumer. Large law firms are caving to trumpists. Judges are at risk, with threats being uttered. When will it be 'enough' to make voters react?Part 2:We talk with Eamon Whalen, a freelance journalist who writes about the right wing, and about the 'masculinity culture'.We discuss with Mr. Whalen the 'crisis of masculinity, and its implications. Specifically, he writes about Richard Reeves, who is pushing this concept. Rather than concentrating on which MEN are pushing men, and others down, the theory goes that it is WOMEN who are pushing men, especially young men, down. This masculinity movement scapegoats women. Music: From David Rovics, “The Richest Man in the World Says So”, 2025

How can we design in ways that are "conducive to life"?...Edona Arnesen is highly passionate about food, farming, food systems, relationships and regeneration in unison, and how we can co-create better communities and systems for the common health of everything on Earth; the human and the non-human, and Nature whom we're all a tiny, connected part of. She finds systems thinking and systemic design fantastically interesting as philosophies and practices to act through. Edona went on to explore the world of resilient and regenerative food systems through participatory action learning at NMBU with her MSc in Agroecology, after a BSc in civil engineering. Her Master's thesis focused on social sustainability and leadership in the restaurant industry, and how that affects especially environmental sustainability in the industry. She has spent half her life closely connected to hospitality through work, both in service, in kitchens and bakeries, and in managerial positions. Practical experience on several organic and biodynamic farms has broadened her perspective and taught her to understand the reality of food producers with the joys, challenges, hinders and opportunities they find in their everyday lives as part of larger systems. Combining these competences lead Edona to Dagens, where she has been part of building a transparent, fair and resilient food system for the future, through data-driven direct trade between sustainable producers and professional buyers, locally.Today, Abbie and Edona explore the social and relational elements involved in creating resilient, regenerative food systems through stories; systems thinking; and localized, context-driven participation....Stories Lived.
