Adrenaline Addiction From Trauma and His Police Career Led To Shock. In Wilder, Kentucky, Police Chief Chad Martin stands as a testament to resilience, transformation, and a fierce pursuit of purpose. His journey to the position wasn't straightforward; instead, it was marked by intense challenges, personal struggles, and what he describes as a lifelong “addiction to adrenaline.” Growing up in a traumatic environment and later serving in the military, Martin developed a tendency for high-stakes scenarios, a need for action, and a constant drive to test his limits. Check out the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms. The Adrenaline-Fueled Path from Trauma to Triumph Chief Martin's story is one of extremes, where the thrill of adrenaline both lifted and challenged him. A self-identified “adrenaline junkie,” Martin reflects on how his background, trauma, and years on the police force contributed to this drive. But his inclination toward thrill-seeking didn't come without consequences. After bouncing between departments early in his police career, Martin found himself on a high-speed motorcycle ride, which unknowingly sparked a police chase. The incident resulted in felony eluding charges, leading to a two-year halt in his career. The fallout wasn't limited to his job; he faced a severe strain on his finances and personal relationships. He talks about investigations and more as a guest on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show, which is available as a free podcast on their website on platforms like Apple, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Yet, after a stroke of luck in which the charges were dropped, Martin found a fresh start in Wilder, Kentucky. He rejoined the police force and gradually rose to the rank of Police Chief. Looking back, Martin speaks openly about his past, understanding how his experiences in childhood and the military created both trauma and a strong need for adrenaline, which fueled his addiction to high-intensity situations. Adrenaline Addiction From Trauma and His Police Career Led To Shock. Chief Chad Martin: A Leader with a Unique Perspective Since joining the Wilder Police Department in 2016, Martin has brought his distinctive background in law enforcement and military service to his role. The city appointed him as Police Chief in 2019, replacing Chief Andrew Williams, who retired after 21 years of dedicated service. Robert Arnold, the Mayor of Wilder, praised Martin's “forward-thinking” approach and his ability to connect with both the community and the officers he leads. Martin's role is unique, marked not just by his official duties but by a strong sense of empathy and experience. We covered his story in platforms like Medium and Newsbreak. Beyond his position, Martin also engages in extensive community outreach. He has spent years volunteering to educate schools, churches, and businesses on how to respond to active shooter situations, a commitment that underscores his dedication to public safety and his understanding of the value of preparedness. Adrenaline Addiction From Trauma and His Police Career Led To Shock. The interview with him is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show, which is available as a free podcast on their website on platforms like Apple, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. The Psychological Impact of Adrenaline Addiction and Trauma on Law Enforcement Martin's journey sheds light on the psychological impact of a career in law enforcement, especially for those with traumatic backgrounds. Adrenaline addiction, or the constant need for high-stakes situations, can be prevalent among officers and military personnel, driven by the body's release of epinephrine, also known as adrenaline. This hormone, produced in high-stress situations, can create a “fight-or-flight” response, dilating air passages, enhancing muscle oxygenation, and redirecting blood flow to essential organs. Over time, however, this response can shift from a survival mechanism to an addictive cycle. Keep informed by following the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, MeWe, Pinterest, Newsbreak, Medium and other social media platforms. For Martin, adrenaline provided a way to cope with his trauma and fulfill his need for excitement. However, as he learned through experience, this pattern can lead to risky behavior and unintended consequences, as it did during his high-speed motorcycle incident. Studies suggest that those who develop a dependency on adrenaline often need it to feel motivated or fulfilled, a psychological effect that may shape behavior both on and off duty. Moving Forward: Lessons Learned and New Goals Today, Martin uses his experiences to lead with empathy and insight, understanding the pressures his officers face and the personal tolls these pressures can take. His story also serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health and support systems within high-stress careers like law enforcement. By addressing his own challenges, Martin has become an advocate for others dealing with similar struggles. Adrenaline Addiction From Trauma and His Police Career Led To Shock. The interview is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show, which is available as a free podcast on their website on platforms like Apple, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. A Community Focused on Growth and Connection The City of Wilder, located in Campbell County along the Licking River, is a community with a blend of rural charm and urban growth. As the business community expands, with new industrial, professional, and commercial developments, the need for effective and compassionate leadership in public safety grows, too. Under Chief Martin's guidance, the Wilder Police Department has become an integral part of this growth, enhancing its focus on community engagement and safety. Adrenaline Addiction From Trauma and His Police Career Led To Shock. Platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify make these stories more accessible, allowing listeners to become informed and vigilant. Chief Chad Martin's story is a powerful example of resilience, personal growth, and the transformative power of a second chance. In Wilder, his leadership represents not only a commitment to public safety but also an understanding of the complex forces that shape individuals in high-stakes careers. Through his story, Chief Martin continues to inspire his community and his team to find strength and purpose amid challenges. Born in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania on June 25, 1886, Henry Harley Arnold, later nicknamed “Hap”, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1907. Initially commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the infantry, a role he disliked, Arnold later jumped at the opportunity to train at the Wright Brothers Aviation School in Dayton, Ohio. It was there, in 1911, he became one of the first three qualified pilots in the US Military. During the decades that followed, Arnold advanced in rank and responsibilities, becoming the Commanding General of Army Air Forces in 1942. During WW2, Arnold was responsible for overseeing a massive expansion of US Air Forces and for directing air combat activity against Germany and Japan. Arnold's contributions during that time would eventually earn him the five star general rank in both the US Army and the newly created US Air Force, which came into being in 1947. To date, Arnold is the only person to hold a 5-star rank in two US military branches. In this episode of Your History Your Story, we will be speaking with General Hap Arnold's grandson, Robert Arnold. Robert will share stories about his grandfather's life, including his love of practical jokes and his friendship with fellow aviation pioneers, Billy Mitchell and Jimmy Doolittle. Robert will also discuss his grandfather's passion for expanding his country's air power capabilities and how he played a significant role in the development of the US Air Force. In recent years, there has been a steady increase of younger people interested in local food. And in this digital age, that same younger demographic is used to purchasing what they need online, straight from the comforts of their home. That said, why should purchasing nutritious, local food be any different? In this episode of Carrot Cashflow, Robert Arnold of Pleasant Valley Farm talks about how they were able to take their farm business online after decades of solely relying on farmer's markets. Robert talks about the process behind how they built the front and back end of their online business to run it more efficiently. Learn more about Pleasant Valley Farm and Smart Farm Innovations. Today's show is a conversation with Robert Arnold, the grandson of Hap Arnold – the Father of the air force. Arnold urged an independent air arm which he lived to see authorized in 1947 – he started flying with the Signal Crops in what could be described as a ‘wild west' era in aviation - setting altitude records, and in WWI was the first aerial observer to report his observations using Radio. In WWII, he directed air activities for the nation's global war against Germany and Japan. Under him the air arm grew from 22,000 officers and men with 3,900 planes to nearly 2,500,000 men and 75,000 aircraft. An amazing accomplishment that shows how much was changing during this time, and Arnold's influence on the development of air power. Key Takeaways: Hap learned to fly in the Wright Brothers ground school and became one of the first military pilots worldwide. Hap grounds himself after a near death experience in a Wright Model C flying the first ever aerial spotting of artillery during an accelerated stall. After testifying for Billy Mitchell and leaking information to the press, Hap and his family are forced to decamp for Fort Riley Kansas after Mason Patrick refuses Haps own request to court marshal himself after getting caught. He directed the expansion of the US Air Force upon entry into WWII to create the most powerful air force in the world. Hap Arnold was the only officer to hold a five-star rank in two different US military services, the United States Army Air Forces and the United States Air Force. Daniela Lamas, M.D., is a critical care physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and a faculty member at the Harvard Medical School. She's also a frequent opinion writer for The New York Times. The paper published her piece, "When Faced With Death, People Often Change Their Minds," earlier this year. "We need to shift the focus from talking to healthy people about what would happen should they stop breathing during a routine procedure, and toward improving conversations with people who are already seriously ill," Dr. Lamas wrote. Her op-ed piece comes on the heels of an essay the Journal of the American Medical Association published a few months earlier, "What's Wrong With Advance Care Planning?" by Drs. Sean Morrison, Diane Meier, and Robert Arnold, which argues that advance care planning has failed to accomplish its goals of aligning care and improving communication at the bedside. Joining Dr. Lamas in conversation is Ira Byock, M.D., a palliative physician, author, longtime advocate for advance care planning, and the founder of the Providence Institute for Human Caring, where this podcast is produced. Dr. Byock holds that while there's dire need to redesign advance directives, providers should talk with patients about who they trust to speak for them and their general healthcare goals — optimally long before onset of a medical crisis. . *******************.The podcast producers are interested in hearing from providers with questions or suggestions for an upcoming webinar on BEST PRACTICES FOR SOCIAL MEDIA USE FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS. When a cancer patient has a serious diagnosis, clinicians and families can struggle with how patients experience hope. Three distinguished palliative care physicians and researchers joined the podcast for a conversation about their recent paper in JAMA titled, “Holding Hope for Patients with Serious Illness” (https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/2784454). Drs. Abby Rosenberg, Robert Arnold, and Yael Schenker shared their own experiences treating seriously ill patients and talked about how we can navigate the tension between appreciating the potential therapeutic benefit of hope and being concerned about perceived unrealistic hopes: “Rather than being concerned that hope is either so fragile that it can be lost, or so powerful that it can overwhelm decision making, clinicians should remember that hope is protective, if not necessary, for managing serious illness. Holding complex, flexible, and diverse hopes enables patients to believe in the unlikely while simultaneously accepting the inevitable. The role of clinicians is to support both.” Abby Rosenberg, MD, MS, MA, is a pediatric oncologist and palliative care physician and researcher at the University of Washington, where she directs the pediatrics component of the Cambia Palliative Care Center, and Seattle Children's Research Institute, where she directs the Palliative Care and Resilience Lab. She has an American Cancer Society Research Scholar Grant to study “Resilience Outcomes Among Adolescents and Young Adults with Advanced Cancer.” Robert M. Arnold, MD, is a palliative care physician, Distinguished Professor of Medicine, and Chief of the Palliative Care Section at the University of Pittsburgh. He previously served as a member of the American Cancer Society's palliative care peer review committee. Yael Schenker, MD, MAS, is a palliative care physician, Professor of Medicine, and Director of the Palliative Research Center (PaRC) at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a past recipient of American Cancer Society research funding, which supported her study of “Primary Palliative Care for Patients with Advanced Hematologic Malignancies.” 3:27 - The therapeutic benefit of hope and why it's helpful to patients and caregivers 5:12 – Why clinicians sometimes feel the need to “correct” a patient's hope 8:56 – How physicians can address the tension of appreciating the potential therapeutic value of hope but being concerned about perceived unrealistic hopes 10:50 – On how physicians can help patients diversify and increase their hopes 6:24 – How they became interested in this topic and decided to explore this topic in a broader way 17:35 – Advice they would share with someone in medical school who might someday treat patients with a poor prognosis 19:03 – A message for caregivers of a patient with a terminal illness

In today's episode, we review the results of the Las Lunas Charity Bug Match, the Arizona State IPDA Pistol Championship, the Liberty Match at Valley Forge, the Fall Brawl, the Georgia State IDPA Championship, and the Southern Belle IDPA Championship. Next, we meet guest Robert Arnold (A42755) from Covington, Georgia. Robert is a Safety Officer Instructor and Expert in Custom Defensive Pistol (CDP) who found IDPA when his wife insisted that he find a hobby and get out of the house. Lloyd rounds out the show with his thoughts on the women of IDPA and the Southern Belle match. Errata I misspoke and said that Kevin Harding, who had the overall top score at the Fall Brawl, is the owner of my home range (Mission 160 in Whitewright, TX) not my home club. I failed to mention the episodes where we met these awesome ladies: Mandy Bachman - Episode 38 Jackie Russo - Episode 10 Angela Swenson - Episode 78 Use these Links to Support Unload and Show Clear Our goal is to visit matches around the country to meet more amazing people and share their stories.
