Episode Summary: Our guest on this episode, Kathy Collard Miller, was raised by a very angry mother. The more Kathy tried to suppress her anger, the more it surfaced. Over time, Kathy found herself expressing her anger toward her husband and her daughter, and in her own words, abusing her daughter. Kathy shares her painful wounds in this episode, as well as the story of redemption and the beautiful sacred scars God has given her. Quotables from the episode: Sometimes when we talk about pain or wounds, that pain comes at the hand of another. Sometimes we have no explanation for why it happens (like a medical diagnosis), and sometimes we participate in choices that end up hurting us in the long run. Frequently our greatest areas of ministry come out of our greatest areas of pain. I have a unique story because not only was I wounded, but I wounded others in turn. As a child, I didn't know I had anger building up inside of me until in third grade I hit my best friend in the nose. To this day, I have no recollection what I was so angry about that would prompt me to be aggressive. As my friend ran away sobbing, I thought to myself, “See what happens when you get angry, Kathy? You'd better never get angry again!” Buried anger doesn't go anywhere except making a volcano. Also in the third grade, I was sexually harmed, although I didn't know that that was what it was called, but I thought it was my fault and that I should have prevented it. So the anger toward myself began to build. My mother was orphaned at the age of ten, resulting in her own anger issues toward me that built up inside of me. I didn't know it would be detrimental toward others later, but I've also found it to be something that God has used in amazing ways. I was never taught how to appropriately deal with my anger. As a little girl who tried to be perfect to prevent me from overreacting in anger, I then thought that God must be disappointed in me and that he was expecting me to be angry. Because of the messages I was taught when I was growing up, I pictured God in heaven with his arms crossed saying, “Kathy, when are you going to be perfect so I can love you?” After I became a Christian at 17, I married my husband, Larry. But all the anger that had built up in me started coming out toward him because his promise of being my perfect, Godly, prince charming didn't come true and left me totally disappointed. I interpreted that as there was something wrong with me. I began to believe I wasn't loved or cared for and that came out in bitterness, anger, criticism, never being happy, or never being thankful for what my husband did do. I began to displace my anger toward my husband on to my two-year-old daughter because when she misbehaved, I interpreted that as “I am a horrible mother.” In the end, I began to physically abuse her. I kept praying for an instantaneous deliverance of my anger and when God didn't do that, I believed God had given up on me, and I almost took my life. But God intervened. We have to feel it to heal it, meaning we have to acknowledge the pain. Then we have to choose to engage in the healing process. When we don't choose the path of healing, other things will happen and there will be consequences of that, until one day it comes out at a less opportune time and a less opportune way. Scripture talks about the importance of getting wise counsel. There is no shame in needing help. Seek out a trusted friend, a mentor, a counselor, a coach, or a pastor and get help.  Do not try to handle your pain alone. When people didn't follow through with what they said they were going to do, I concluded that I was worthless. My healing began when I got the courage to share my sin with the women in my Bible study that I led in my neighborhood. They began to hold me accountable, and they prayed for me. I started taking parenting classes and reading books and I read in the Bible Ephesians 4:26, “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” I can be angry, but surrender whatever it is that I think I deserve that's causing my anger. God showed me that I was making my husband an idol because I was expecting him to be responsible for my happiness and contentment. That brought me to the place where I could acknowledge God was the only one who could fully meet my needs. And whether or not my husband ever changed, that was up to God. As God began to have me share my story, other women would come up to tell me that they struggled with the same thing but had never told anyone else. My relationship with my daughter and our family is healed. She has always supported my ministry sharing with others how I treated her. She loves God. I thought I had destroyed her, but God has redeemed us and brought about a sacred scar. There is always hope with the Lord. What the enemy intended for evil, God is using for good. There is healing when we share our story in safe places. We need to get wise, safe counsel so that we don't go back into the hiding. Satan loves secrets and he loves to cause us to hide and isolate. My journey of healing came little by little by little. When we have thoughts, we need to stop and ask, “Is this the truth according to scripture?” If it is, we allow it in. But if it is not, we need to reject it, and recite God's truth. If God can deliver a child abuser on the verge of suicide, God can help you! I was more concerned about Jesus's reputation than my own.  Scripture References: Ephesians 4:26 NIV “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” Genesis 50:20 NIV “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Revelation 12:11 NIV “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” James 5:16 NIV “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”   Recommended Resources:  Anger Management, Jesus Style by Kathy Collard Miller  No More Anger: Hope for An Out of Control Mom by Kathy Collard Miller Sacred Scars: Resting in God's Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson  The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out to God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson YouVersion 5-Day Devotional Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms   Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the AWSA 2023 Inspirational Gift Book of the Year Award, the Christian Literary Awards Reader's Choice Award in four categories, and the Christian Literary Awards Henri Award for Devotionals YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be Another Good Day Breaking Anxiety's Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Breaking Anxiety's Grip Free Study Guide Free 7-Day YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Breaking Anxiety's Grip Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor's Personal Journey Through Depression by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Hope Prevails Bible Study by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Trusting God Through Cancer 1 Trusting God Through Cancer 2 Revive & Thrive Women's Conference Subdue Stress and Anxiety: Fifteen Experts Offer Comprehensive Tools in Ten Minutes a Day. THE UNSEEN Kingdoms in Conflict 8.11.24 There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. - C.S. Lewis, Screwtape Letters The two most common responses to spiritual warfare and the spiritual realm: 1. Obsessive preoccupation 2. Complacent indifference Reasons why Christians are tragically ignorant of and dangerously ill-prepared for spiritual warfare: 1. Ignorance of the Bible Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 2. Irrelevance of the Bible 3. Victory of the cross 4. The fear of imbalance Many Christians have become so accustomed to operating with no demonstrations of spiritual power that they are bothered by any demonstration of it. – Timothy Warner 5. Insulated life-styles & a western worldview The reason we don't often see overt demonic manifestations like someone's eyes roll in the back of their head or foam at the mouth is because any sort of supernatural occurrence would at the very least get you to believe in the supernatural. A smarter, more subtle strategy of Satan is to move stealthily behind the scenes – distorting truth – bring division – selling lies – making church goers church shoppers, turning kingdom people into political people – keeping the church in a state of apathy. - Dr. Karl Payne 2 Corinthians 11:14 For Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. There is a kingdom of God and there is a kingdom of Satan and the two are in conflict. God/the Trinity are pre-existent and all-powerful from beginning and they create out of who they are and what they desire God creates an unseen world with spiritual beings (Job 38, Psalm 82) God creates a physical world with human beings (Genesis 1:26-28) Ephesians 6:10-12 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:19-21 That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. As followers of Jesus, we must be committed to rediscovering a biblical imagination for the spiritual world, our authority in Christ, and the weapons of warfare God has given us to overcome the powers of the Enemy. Imagining the world that Scripture imagines, you will recall, means focusing less on the world that created the Bible and more on the world that the Bible creates. - Luke Timothy Johnson, Miracles Will we have “ears to hear and eyes to see” what God is doing all around us in both the physical and the spiritual realms? Will the church be a place shaped by a secular culture that rejects the mysterious or the miraculous or will we embody a community drenched with the possibilities of the supernatural?

Occult Washington DC Show NotesSummary:There are many well meaning saints who still hold hope that somehow the right Republican conservative candidate can get elected to office and fix the mess or drain the swamp that is Washington D.C. By the same token, there are many left-leaning sycophants that think a perfect liberal Democrat can bring about the Socialist utopia they've been dreaming of. Cognitive dissonance is not allowing many to accept the truth that both sides of the aisle are controlled by and are part of the same demonic entities that rule all governments. It's time to face the truth and look to the Scriptures to learn that there is an unseen hand that pulls the strings, and the powers that be do not reveal themselves until the very end!Episode brought to you by our Premium Subscribers or Seekers:Jeremiah J., Jesus R., Jacob A., Karen B., and Jody M. Just as Caesar was revered as a god, so do men revere politicians and “heroes” in our history, refusing to withdraw their consent to be governed by a satanic elite class that designed DC to be a lightening rod of demonic activity. This is not a swamp to be drained; it is a den of iniquity that hides and houses the most sinister evils being perpetrated upon mankind.

Join Audrey and John as they delve into one of the most uplifting and inspiring passages of the Bible: Ephesians 1. In this episode, they read through this powerful chapter, which speaks of how God has lavished His love and superabundant grace on us, and how His love cascades over us.. As they read, Audrey and John highlight the significance of the multifaceted treasures of redemption that God has given us, and how this highlights the incredible depth of His love for us. As they explore this passage, Audrey and John also discuss the contrast between God and Smog, and how God is unlike Smog, who jealously guards his treasure and doesn't allow anyone to touch it but God longs for us to come to Him and experience His treasures of redeeming love and grace for ourselves. This episode is a beautiful reminder of just how much God loves us and the lengths to which He has gone to redeem us. So, relax and let the love of God wash over you like a paradise waterfall.Music for this episode:I have written permission from both artists.Intro music is "I will follow" by Eikon Outro music is "No Sweeter Love: by Allie PaigeConnect with Audrey and the Eat Me Drink Me community Website: www.eatmedrinkmepodcast.netTiktok: click here Discord: https://discord.gg/JkRCXDS3Cg Youtube: Click here Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/646324359742601/ Email: eatmedrinkmepod@gmail.comDonate to help support Audrey's work on the Podcast Paypal: www.paypal.com/paypalme/emdmpodcast Become a Patreon: www.patreon.com/emdmpodcast Venmo: @JohnAudreyDuttonCashapp:$JandADutton Buy Me a Coffee: www.buymeacoffee.com/eatmedrinkmeSupport the show

Building your house on the word from God

Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...  Christian Nationalist is a movement of church goers who try to elect politicians who will vote and make laws in USA government according to the Bible.   So what's wrong with that?   They are trying to make the world into the church without being born again, leaving out Jesus Christ.     They are trying to force the world to following rules of God without being of God.   The movement is being led by Dallas Theological Seminary and two billionaire oil men in Texas.   They select men and women and examine them to see if they fit Bible doctrines and if so they will sponsor these candidates in various political offices, funding their political campaign.  As it is time to vote, they make "suggestions" as to what laws to pass.   Their churches are called "Bible Church".   If you have not heard of this political movement, you probably will.   It is very subtle and may seem right.   But it does not fit God's way of dealing with the world as presented in the Bible.

Today I want to read through another epic book of the Bible: Ephesians. I love this book because it's like a dense gem -- a summary of the entire Bible. All the major themes of Scripture converge in this one little letter. From Creation to the Cross to the Coming again; from grace, to peace, to love, to warfare. It's all here in one condensed little book. I pray that these themes will wash over you like never before. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This calm Christian meditation with Biblical Affirmations is from the Free Christian Guided Meditations Library at https://onlinediscipleshipforwomen.com/christian-guided-meditation/ and will guide you through the journey of realizing how special and precious you are to God. You need to know that you are powerful, valuable, special, chosen, and unique on purpose. You are loved and accepted. Your life matters. Your ideas count. You are perfect just the way you are. All affirmations are original. 1. You Are A Child Of God. Bible: Galatians 3:26 says “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith” Think about this for a moment. How precious you are to God, your Heavenly Father. He loves you so much that He made you new through Jesus, so you can have a life of joy, freedom, and honor. 2. You Are A Princess. Bible: Psalm 136:26 says “Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.‘ God's love for you endures forever. You are loved, forever. Romans 15:7 says “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you” Jesus accepted you. You are accepted. 1 Corinthians 6:11 says “...you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” You are justified. You are sanctified. You are a daughter of the King, our Sovereign God. Think about how significant it is to know that your sin and your faults have all been washed away. You are new. You are sanctified. How do you feel knowing that you are a daughter of the King? You are a Princess. Royalty. King's heir. Your inheritance is God's Kingdom. Nothing can take away your confidence in this truth: you are a Princess. Nothing can separate you from the everlasting love of God. You are loved. You are accepted. You are worthy. You are a child of God. 3. You Are Fearfully And Wonderfully Made. Bible: Psalm 139:14 says “I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful‘ Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus” You are wonderful. You are made in the image of God Himself. Everything about you He created. Every aspect of you is a masterpiece. You are whole. You are God's perfect creation. Think about how special you are to God. How perfectly He made you. There's no one like you. You are one of a kind. A masterpiece. You are perfect. 4. You Are God's Glory On Display. Bible: John 13:31-32 says “... Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.” Think about how much God is pleased with you. Your life is for His glory and honor. God is glorified because of who you are. 5. You Are Worthy. Bible: Galatians 2:20 says “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Think about how worthy you are that now Christ Himself lives in you. There's no need to feel guilt, shame, self-condemnation, or self-hatred. You are a new creation in Christ. You are blameless. You are pure. All your debt has been paid by Jesus. You are holy. 6. You Are Valuable. Bible: Luke 12:7 says “Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not - you are of more value than many sparrows.” Think about how much God must appreciate and value you to count all your hair. This message shows how God dedicates His undivided personal attention to you. He takes time to learn every little detail about you. You are that valuable to God. Romans 8:2 says “because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Think about how sin is no longer your master. The Holy Spirit who lives in you after you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior gives you all the power you need to declare complete freedom from sin. You are free. Matthew 5:16 says “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.“ Think about how you can shine more light in the world. You are light. 7. You Are Special And Chosen. Bible: Genesis 2:7 says “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” 1 Thessalonians 1:4 says “For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you” 1 Peter 2:9 says “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” Think about how much God wanted you that He made you so unique. God created you out of nothingness - to be. You are that special. God chose you. He has a purpose for you. He made you so precious. He made you His child, a Princess, with a royal privilege of having a purpose. You matter. You make a difference. You are important. 8. You Are A Difference-Maker. Bible: Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Think about the purpose of your life, your mission here, your ministry in the community, your impact on people, and what positive difference you make. You make a difference. The world is a better place because of you. You are here for a good reason. God has a mission for you. 9. You Are Gifted. Bible: Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Think about the special gift of eternal life you received from God. Your life will go on and on. You will be forever. Allow yourself to experience gratitude right now. 10. You Are Creative. Bible: Exodus 35:31 says “and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills” Think about your special skills, talents, and abilities. Your ideas are very creative. Your ideas are great. Your ideas matter. You have wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to make an impact. Your ideas are effective. Your ideas are powerful. 11. You Are Wise. Bible: Isaiah 11:2 says “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him, the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord.” Think about the wisdom of God available to you at all times. You have good discernment. The Holy Spirit in you gives you wisdom. In any situation, you just ask, and you shall receive wisdom from your counsel who is God Himself. All-knowing. With infinite intelligence. Romans 5:3-5 says “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance - character, and character - hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Think about how much pain you're persevered through in life. That perseverance produced your character. Your character is what gives hope to others around you. When people see what you've been through and whom you've become, the child of God, His glory, it gives them hope. 12. You Are Powerful. Bible: Acts 1:8 says “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.“ Think about the power you have through Christ. Never doubt yourself. You want to go to the best school to study for your dream career? You can. You want to be a CEO on a global enterprise? You can. You want to speak in front of thousands of people with your special message? You can. You want to learn new skills? You can. You want to be kind and patient? You can. You want to be loving and compassionate? You an. 13. You Are Strong And Courageous. Bible: Joshua 1:9 says “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Think about this truth about you. God commands you to be courageous. In every situation, you can declare this truth: God will be with you wherever you go. You are strong and courageous in Christ. 14. You Are Blessed. Bible: Psalm 32:1 says “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.” | Think about the new identity you have in Christ. Your debt is paid. Your sin is forgiven. You are new, redeemed, holy, and God calls you blessed. Ephesians 1:3 says “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” Think about being consistently called “blessed” throughout the Bible. Count your blessings. Make it a habit to intentionally feel blessed daily. Start a ‘gratitude journal“ and write just a few things there regularly. The things you consider blessings, like health, clean drinking water, plenty of food, close friendships, and even this device you're listening the mediation on right now. You have so many blessings. Count them. Don't let the day go by without pausing to realize how blessed you are. The biggest blessing of all is your eternal life with Jesus in Heaven. What a blessing to have such certainty about your future. You never have to wonder. You never have to guess. You know for sure about your future. 15. You Are Loved. Bible: John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Think about how loved you are that God sent Jesus to redeem you from any sin, fault, debt, and to set you free. You are loved. Unconditionally. Romans 5:8 says “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Think about God's unconditional love toward you. He doesn't require you to change. He asks you: come as you are. He sent Christ to show His love for you, with no conditions. God's love is yours. Nothing you need to do to deserve this love, to earn it, to win it. You are loved already. Just the way you are. Right now. You are fully loved already by your Heavenly Father, forever, for eternity.    All affirmations are original from https://onlinediscipleshipforwomen.com/god

Messy Family Podcast : Catholic conversations on marriage and family

"Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, and is Himself its Savior." Ephesians 5:22-23 Catholic lectors regularly skip this passage for a reason: people in the pews start squirming when it's read! Why is that? But this is an integral passage to help us understand not only the relationship between husbands and wives, but in understanding how we can image God to each other. Often this passage is misinterpreted and misunderstood, but after years of thinking about this and living it out in our marriage, we want to offer a different view. The heart of what we talk about is how God wants to love each husband and each wife through their spouse. Marital love is a powerful thing because God wants to use it to show us His powerful awesome love. Listen in as we offer our perspective on this compelling passage of God's Word. Show Notes: Read it in the Bible: Ephesians 5:21-31 Fr. John Riccardo's podcast on The Biblical Vision for Marriage An old article Alicia wrote on submission in marriage ( from 1998!)
