Defending Memphis after LeBron's comments about the Bluff City is understandable. However, there's a new argument about why Memphis should not move to Nashville that should stop. The Grizzlies aren't a charity; Memphis was completely stable without an NBA team, and we shouldn't be using the sympathy card to defend it. Also on the show: Jake goes through each National League city and rates it from 1-10, it's April which means our very first "Apes In Ape-ril" of 2026, WVNN's Dale Jackson joined the show to talk about the latest political headlines, and today's Maxterpiece Theater!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, I chat with Patrick Black, the social media manager behind Baker's Construction Services in Bluff City, Tennessee. Patrick takes us through his journey from working in construction and sales to becoming the guy who grew Baker's Facebook following from 600 to a jaw-dropping 72,000 and got their content in front of over 80 million people. We dig (pun intended) into Patrick's creative approach to social media and online marketing—how he uses storytelling, stunning visuals, and a deep understanding of his audience to highlight the incredible work his team does. He also shares the unforgettable story of Hurricane Helene in 2024, when catastrophic flooding hit Northeast Tennessee. Patrick explains how his company was ready—not just to help with recovery efforts but to document and share the story of resilience and hope through social media. He also highlights how many companies in the construction industry either don't have a social media presence or aren't using it effectively. Social media has become a key way people research businesses, offering a chance to show what you do and build a connection with your audience. Gaining followers is more than just a number—it's about creating a channel where people actively choose to stay informed about your work. Patrick drops a key takeaway: “If the world searched for you in a search bar tomorrow—whether it's on social media, Google, or whatever—would you be happy with what they find? Is it accurate and up-to-date?” That readiness, combined with a consistent content strategy, made all the difference for Baker's. From drone shots to time-lapse videos, Patrick shows how he turned a small-town construction company into a social media powerhouse. Whether you're a marketer, a construction fan, or just love a good story about innovation and grit, this episode is packed with inspiration and practical tips. Ya dig? A chilling yet profoundly emotional Bigfoot encounter unfolds in this episode as Ray from Henderson, Kentucky shares what happened to him as a young child growing up near the Green River in Bluff City, deep within the Ohio River Valley—an area long rumored to be a hotspot for Sasquatch activity.Ray describes being thrown from a horse, becoming trapped in briars, and coming face-to-face with a massive female Bigfoot who approached him with unexpected intelligence and compassion. What follows includes possible telepathic communication, multiple later sightings along the river, mysterious missing livestock, enormous footprints, and a hidden bone yard discovered in the woods. His story intertwines with the historical “Spotsville Monster” timeline across the river, revealing startling parallels to other Kentucky Bigfoot encounters happening during the same year.If you're interested in real Bigfoot sightings, Appalachian folklore, Sasquatch behavior, cryptid research, or eyewitness interviews, this episode delivers one of the most compelling and humane accounts you'll ever hear.

Episode 328: While it's one of the great music cities in the world, the story of Memphis, TN is generally told as one about Elvis, BB King, Isaac Hayes, and possibly Justin Timberlake - artists from the history books or well on in their careers. Roots music fans might know more contemporary talents like songwriters Amy LaVere and John Paul Keith. Many others simmer along in that city's bars and clubs, but one has to go there to get up to speed on the talent pool. Southern Avenue is different - a breakout band from Bluff City with national acclaim, a renowned record label, and a musical voice grounded in native soil and native soul. It's the band today's Memphis has needed. Craig speaks with the married couple out front in the band, guitarist Ori Naftaly and singer Tierinii Jackson.
Is it just politics or could Obama serve time? National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard doubled down on the accusations that the Obama administration propagated a "contrived narrative" that Russia meddled in the 2016 election. Still, there's no denying the sad history of spring football in the Bluff City. We also give you today's Wheel of Weird story: "Wrong Number, Man!"See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Diverse Voices Book Review host Hopeton Hay interviewed Preston Lauterbach, author of BEFORE ELVIS: The African American Musicians Who Made the King. In the interview Lauterbach highlighted the influence of African American musicians on Elvis Presley. He noted that Elvis's first hit, "That's All Right," was originally recorded by Arthur Crudup, and songs like "Hound Dog" and "Mystery Train" had African American origins. Lauterbach also explored the economic exploitation of Black artists and the cultural appropriation by white artists. He shared insights into the evolution of R&B and its impact on pop music in the 1970s, emphasizing the importance of recognizing Black music's roots and contributions to American culture. Preston Lauterbach is author of the American music classic The Chitlin' Circuit (2011) as well as Beale Street Dynasty (2015) and Bluff City (2019). He has co-authored three memoirs with significant figures in Black music, including Brother Robert (2020) with the stepsister of bluesman Robert Johnson, Timekeeper (2021) with Memphis soul drummer Howard Grimes, and the Blind Boys of Alabama biography Spirit of the Century.
