Sam introduces his guest Tammy Wise, owner of BodyLogos, Inc., Tao minister, and twice voted the Best of Fitness by Time Out New York. Tammy believes that tracking tension while strength training transforms that tension to strength. 2nd Segment Tammy's journey began with her survival of sexual abuse. Dancing and stretching allowed her to feel more centered and in control of her body, it allowed her to stretch between earth and sky. Out of high school she began to professionally dance in Broadway productions such as A Chorus Line. She developed an interest in estern cultures while touring as a dancer. After retiring from dance she studied Chinese Herbology and that soon transformed into the study of Taoism. Tammy talks about the importance of self alignment and how it makes the flow of life more manageable. She teaches this alignment in a program called the Relaxed Strength Method. 3rd Segment Tammy chose the name BodyLogos because it means the body's divine wisdom and her job is training the body for inner strength. Her classes look like strength training but sound like meditation. With BodyLogos you are creating a positive change without compromising yourself. Tammy believes that strength is something you already have, it just needs to be unveiled. Before the break, Tammy teaches an exercise she calls the “Three Breath Reset.” 4th Segment Tammy Wise's company BodyLogos has an app available for use. For more information on her company visit the website bodylogos.com. The first thing you will see on the home video is a video that will teach you to surrender tension in eight minutes. This is a sneak peak into the techniques taught in her book The Art of Strength: Sculpt the Body ~ Train the Mind. Her book will teach you what the mind body connection is and how to work with it. These methods have helped her throughout her life. When scared she can step into this alignment and feel guided, less alone. It has given Tammy a sense of belonging in this world. In today's Fit Strong Women Over 50 podcast: Your core supports all the bones and muscles in the top of body and bottom of body. Your brain recalls the details of your story, but it doesn’t have the emotional memory. That’s found in your body. Soft tissue holds the emotional memory. Tension and strength have the very same root. Tension is energy that’s stagnant. Strength is energy that’s in flow. Strength is connecting to the goal. Tension stands between you and the goal. Releasing tension builds strength in mind and body. Her strength training method uses alignment, emotional release and outside resistance to reorganize and focus your strength Body Logos means the body’s divine wisdom Eating in balance. She prefers to eat several small meals throughout the day. Peasant bread: dark flour, whole grains “I’ve made it my personal mission to help people understand–and experience–what real strength feels like. And it’s not the result of bench-pressing a ton of weight or running endless miles. Carla is currently studying for her Certificate 3 and 4 in fitness with Nate which is a lotta fun (which means we'll be sharing some fun workouts here on the bloggity blog soon!). It's an hour full of good convo we know you're gonna love!  This is the stuff we talk about: Body image from the male perspective (listen to THIS episode if you want our personal stories). Why people fail at their fitness goals and how NOT to do this. Other ways to motivate you to exercise besides always trying to hit PBs.  Comparison and how it sucks. WE talked in more detail about this topic in THIS episode.   Actual beauty, the inside stuff is what really matters.  Merrymaker mantra of the week: Don't train to get a better body. Train to be a better body. We talked a lot about exercise since Nate is a PT and we love love LOVE this mantra! It was so interesting to hear Nate talk about body image issues from a male perspective and also from a trainers perspective.  Like how he would train one person and they would look at someone else in the gym and make a comment like... "Ohhh.... she has lovely legs. I'd love legs like that" Then Nate would go and train lovely leg lady and she would say... "I really need to work my legs more, I hate them!" Take a listen to the episode and share with anyone you know who needs to hear more on this topic.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
