Join here: https://seekingexcellence.locals.com/supportLast week on Instagram, I created a lot of buzz as I used real life examples of the cost of housing, Catholic education, and other costs as to why that number is much closer to $175k for a Catholic family in Denver. And that's in 2025. Life tends to only get more expensive, typically at around 2-4% per year. As we all learned over the last four years, that rate of increase can be MUCH higher than that. In today's episode of the Seeking Excellence podcast, I take a look at these numbers not just in the present, but what I anticipate the cost of living will be 10-15 years from now. The rising costs here in Denver (and everywhere) are the number one reason why my wife and I are moving from Colorado this summer. If we make a strong income but can barely afford to live here now, what are the chances our kids will be able to in 30 years? We love it here. We love the weather, the beauty, and the many great relationships we've formed over the last four years. Moving for lower cost of living is a tough decision I know many people are considering. I hope that today's episode can bring some peace and clarity to the decision for some and give others some things to consider! Spoiler alert: life will be very expensive when us millennials have kids in high school

Here is a simple truth: You were not made just to work. You were made to be in relationship with God and others, to love and to be loved - to become a saint. In this episode, I analyze two different clips from other shows that demonstrate a workaholic mentality and the emptiness in brings to human life. We all know that last year, I released an episode that got a lot more attention than I anticipated. I spent the majority of 2023 having conversations with fellow Catholics and Protestants about nonprofits, capitalism, and self-fundraising missionaries. I learned a lot from these conversations. I learned from many former or current missionaries. I also learned from the family members and friends (and many former friends) of missionaries. I heard some stories demonstrating the dark side of some of these models. Like any good system, it has the potential to be abused. My conversations led to a podcast, which led to me having a private meeting at FOCUS headquarters. This was fitting since they were by far the organization that was most upset by the episode. Despite invitations to come on the podcast to clear the air, I was never able to have a public conversation with anyone to help bring clarity to this topic. I recorded this episode after another year of waiting, praying, discussions, and negative experiences with *mostly* active FOCUS staff. The message of this episode is clear: many of us believe there needs to be some reform to the model of self-fundraising used by certain organizations. We may be wrong about that, but it's what we believe. Non-profits are supposed to thrive on transparency. And that is ultimately what I'm requesting on behalf of the many, many fellow disaffected FOCUS supporters. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/seekingexcellence/support
