You can't do it by yourself, and that's more than okay. We all need people to help guide us through the tough stuff. Being vulnerable and letting others in has been key to my healing journey. You don't have to do it alone. Commit to Self-Care: I'm not talking about bubble baths here. I'm talking about real self-care: nutrition, sleep, exercise. These things are non-negotiable if you want to thrive. If you're neglecting these basics, your healing journey is going to be a lot harder. Face Your Fears: Being resilient doesn't mean just pushing through. It means being present with your fears and challenges and transforming them into opportunities for growth. I've faced fears head-on in my life, and I'll tell you: you come out the other side stronger and more empowered. Building True Resilience: Resilience is about flexibility—emotionally, mentally, and physically. It's not about “grin and bear it” or pushing yourself into burnout. It's about being able to bounce back without losing yourself along the way. Break Free from Unhelpful Patterns: We often turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms (like overworking) to avoid emotions. But real growth happens when you feel the emotion and move through it without using work, food, or other distractions as a crutch. The bottom line: You have the power to choose how you respond to your life. Healing and transformation come when you take responsibility, embrace vulnerability, and lean on the people around you. Many times it happens even at home, but that's the way life is. I've been working on this lately, without really seeing this statement for awhile. As soon as I saw it, I saw the importance of sharing it with you. We live in a world where getting our patience tested seems to be happening more and more, and we have to have this mindset ready to go so we can make it through our days. Cindy Esliger explores the difference between acting tough and demonstrating strength. They're not the same thing, though women in male-dominated fields often put up a facade of invincibility in an attempt to appear strong. True strength is in our ability to confront challenges and make decisions that align with our values. Cindy breaks down exactly what a tough exterior prevents that true strength cultivates. Showing off mental toughness with a gritty exterior and emotions in check is not strength, it's just an exhausting show that ultimately wears us down and keeps us anxious and in check for fear of seeming weak. True strength lies in recognizing struggles and admitting them, at least to ourselves, and in cultivating the ability to be honest. Cindy counters the tough exterior messages we get from the world at large with detailed examples of what real strength actually looks like. When we show true strength, we are prioritizing our well-being and following things that align with our values and passions. The tough act does not allow us to change direction or admit burnout which is why it ultimately leads to unsustainable demands. Someone recently asked me how I got TRUE STRENGTH written, published, printed, and out to the public in 6-months from start to finish. The answer is easy. A strong mission & vision, tons of hard work…and a man named Clay Manley. Who is Clay Manley? Good question. Clay Manley is my co-author of TRUE STRENGTH and an absolute God-send. I've known and worked with him for a long time but never in this capacity or with this intensity. From the start of the creation of the TRUE STRENGTH in mid-December 2023, to writing it in Q1 & Q2 of 2024, to launching it on June 18th, 2024…it has been one heckuva process and story. Clay, as a professional copywriter/book-author was FULL-TIME on this project and we spent a TON of time an energy on it. As a matter of fact, that's what today's episode is all about. And so it continues. Last week, Melanie interviewed Todd on TRUE STRENGTH. And it went DEEP. And we had a record number of feedback and comments on the book and the podcast episode. Thank you. Buckle-up boys & girls…it's about to get real. My TRUE STRENGTH book comes out this week (Tuesday) and today we have my lovely bride Melanie in the house to discuss a ton of “behind-the-scenes” content with you on the book. It's always special to have her in the “podcast house.” On today's episode, she interviews me on some of the toughest of times and we discuss my answers. Get ready to dive in… Of course we are going to talk about what's inside the book and what transpired during the toughest 3.5 year stretch of my life. TRUE STRENGTH is a book that is designed to help you thrive in the face of any adversity (burnout, transition, crisis, change, soul searching, a split, an injury, a diagnosis, a fork in the road, a rut--you name it). In the book, I share my deep personal journey of transformation and resilience over the past 3.5 years (2020-2023) during the pandemic while simultaneously overcoming excruciating physical back pain, mental anguish and depression, in hopes of serving as a beacon of hope for anyone navigating life's darkest valleys. I also candidly share how I found my purpose in pain, faith in failure, and ultimately - growth, all while facing these gut-wrenching challenges. What are a few takeaways you would like others to get out of the book? The pandemic. Fitness Quest 10 closes down. Death-threats when GET YOUR MIND RIGHT came out. The gym being closed. 2nd knee replacement. Selling a big portion of the business. Then the back. The back. UGHHH. That danged back in 2021 & 2022. WOW. And then all the brain fog. A 3rd knee surgery. And then the sleep apnea diagnosis. ALL of it. ALL of that in 3.5 years. That's A LOT. How did you get through it? Please share 2 or 3 of your hardest personal struggles and battles during your darkest hours. Tell me the truth. Were you ever scared during this time? When? What were some of your top “negative” emotions? Depression. Do you feel you were ever depressed? What helped you during the dark days to help YOU get through? There were 2 really Low, Low, dark MOMENTS for me in all this. Talk about these…. One was the doctor telling you that you needed a 14-hour back fusion surgery. Talk about that. The other was the moment in Mexico. Talk about that… Dr. Amen. I was convinced we needed to see him. You were jacked-up. You denied a lot of it. I made the call to his offices to get you to see him because YOU would not. Can you please explain WHY we did not go see him… You were diagnosed with Sleep apnea in 2023. Why was that important? Talk about that…. Out of this entire process of 3.5 years… What was the HARDEST or WORST part… What was the BEST part…. What did you learn during this entire 3.5 year period? What lessons did you glean? What role did faith play in ALL of it? What are you MOST EXCITED for these days now that you are through all this… What an episode. You talk about icons and heroes! I recently had the incredible opportunity to go to Elaine LaLanne's home (for a 2nd time!) in Central CA. Elaine is the 98-year old wife of the late Jack LaLanne, who serves as the iconic godfather of the fitness craze starting in the 1940's. Literally. There is a movie coming out on Jack LaLanne's life in 2025 (played by Mark Wahlberg) and it truly is a treat to have Elaine come back on the IMPACT SHOW for a repeat performance and talk about some of the amazing and heroic things in Jack's life. You talk about legacy…you must listen to this one… Here is some of what I asked the witty and special Elaine LaLanne on this week's IMPACT SHOW podcast: How would you summarize Jack in one sentence?
