Welcome back to another great episode of One For The Road. This week I am joined by my good friend Brad Mcleod. Brad has been in recovery for 13 years after bottoming out for the last time. From his first taste of alcohol he was hooked with the relief it offered from personal insecurities. His relationship with drugs and alcohol was not terrible in the beginning but one day, things changed from having fun and enjoying a few to needing substances to live. He used to live and lived to use. He is now one of the biggest influencers in the sober community. He created sober motivation to help share stories about sobriety and the podcast has over 75 amazing stories of sobriety. I've known Brad, or more specifically Brad's important online presence, since being a couple of months sober, and I am grateful for his Sober Motivation platform that has served as a constant companion and source of motivation on my journey thus far. In asking him to join the podcast, I had no idea how powerful his personal story would be, but I now have a greater understanding of the backdrop to all the good he does for the community. Editing parts of our conversation and his story was not an option, so I simply split it into two episodes. Here's part two!

In this week's episode I'm sitting down with Brad Mcleod, the genius behind one of Instagram's most popular recovery pages, Sober Motivation. Brad made the decision to get clean on the 11th of January 2010, after years of battling with addiction. It was a stint in jail and a lifetime ban from the US that gave Brad the motivation he needed to turn his life around. In this conversation Brad shares the profound impact sobriety has made on the person he is today. We talk about the process of rebuilding self-esteem and rediscovering your integrity in recovery. Brad is now a father of three and is helping people to change their lives by getting clean and sober. His passion is building a community of likeminded sober people who are there to celebrate and support one other. He credits this community as being the foundation of his recovery. McLeod discusses the pitfalls of new technologies and innovations in the meat industry, while Desmond Johnston talks about his contributions to the meat industry community in Canada.
Brad McLeod shares his story about how he went from a comfortable life in Canada living with his grandparents to being uprooted and moved to Waco TX then North Carolina and eventually being banished from the U.S... For real! What I like about Brad's story is how the thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and behaviors were present long before his addiction to drugs. He shares his struggles as a teen, criminal behavior, being locked away in rehab at 17 having never used drugs, and mental health challenges. Also, how his pill use lead heroin, then methadone, and how he was set up by a friend and arrested 3 years later! Today Brad continues to make a huge impact on the recovery community through multiple sober communities like Sober Motivation. He is also active with a recovery app called Your Sober Buddy.
