On this week's episode of the "Fat m.e.l.t.ing Radio" fitness podcast, Joe interviews m.e.l.t. Fitness Coach Nicki Goldschmidt! Nicki is certified in Personal Training as well as in Reiki and is currently in the process of getting her nutrition certification through Precision Nutrition. On today's episode, Nicki and Joe discuss Gut health, uncover how important your gut is too much more than digestion, as well as many other topics from meditation to mindset. Enjoy! Show Notes/Take Aways Food Efficiency is the ability to absorb micro and macro nutrients through the gut. Symptoms the gut is not healthy; irregular bowel movements, bloating, heartburn, gurd inflammation, loss of appetite, feelings of depression etc... Antibiotics can affect the gut flora: If you have taken any antibiotics, make sure to use probiotics to counteract. When searching for probiotics, look at the label for purity, creation date, shelf life and do a search of ingredients. You need to treat your metabolism like your best friend. Our tendency to live in fight or flight causes us to overuse our sympathetic nervous system which leads to GI issues. Because of this, we have a constant and steady drip of cortisol, keeping our body in a state of stress which directly impacts our digestion, elimination, reproduction and metabolism. If we do not take in enough CLEAN calories, we can cost issues to our body as our organs run on calories as well and we need our organs to fully function. To help combat stress, Nicki uses the "wipe" method or literally wiping from hand to shoulder or wiping the forehead to rid the body of negative energy & stress. In addition, she finds some quit time to take deep breaths and or be in the sun.

Eric is an Onnit Kettlebell Coach and runs his own workshops all over the country!  In this week's Monday motivation, Joe talks about the importance of the Latin phrase "Amor Fati" and how that's important to your happiness. During the interview, Eric shares some of his best kettlebell cues, how he structures his workouts, what he would do if he was limited on time and much more!   Show notes -Lateral Activation/Lateral Tension: Rooting yourself into the floor (through fingers/hands and toes/feet) to create the necessary tension to increase your strength. For example, spreading the floor apart with your hands in a push-up or the floor apart with your feet during a swing or squat.  -Kettlebell cues to prevent flop back from kettlebell - grab the kettlebell so that your shoulder is packed and internally rotated, with a soft grip on the KB, pull through your back/lats, keeping the KB tight to the midline of the body with your elbow tight, zip it up like your zipping up a jacket then punch your wrist up (keeping your wrist & elbow tight). -Flows are a way to put movements in sequence to increase the training effect and add both a fun and beautiful element to your workouts. -Eric develops his own flows by testing movements back n forth, to find the best matches for fluidity to see which work best together -Eric structures his workouts in the following way: "The meat" or the main lifts, isolation or single joint movements and conditioning  -When short on time, Eric uses the EMOM or every minute on the minute where you pick 1-4 movements for a set amount of reps, then utilize the rest of the set for rest. He tests it out for a few rounds to find the right rep scheme/weight to use first. -Eric creates programs he wants to see and tests them all out himself.  -A typical day for Eric: Cardio or a KB flow in am, lift for 20-30 minutes then 10 minutes of cardio like jump ropes if he has time or pulls ups -You must be mentally strong for what you ask for -"everything worthwhile is going to be difficult." -Eric's favorite on the go snack is yogurt made from coconut.   Related Links https://www.animalflow.com/about/meet-our-team/mike-fitch/

Celebrating YOUR Direction & How To Count Your Macros

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 10, 2019 40:19

On Today's episode of the fat melting radio fitness podcast, Joe does a solo cast with a Monday motivation segment and a detailed segment on what macros are and how to count them for your body type so you can find the right nutrition/diet plan that fits you!   Show notes/Takeaways Set goals to determine what path to head down, but celebrate the direction you're heading vs. actual progress towards your goal Macro nutrients give you energy and they are protein, carbohydrates and fat. Counting your macros is a way of eating where you eat a set of each type of nutrients based on your body type and goals NOTE, there is NO perfect equation for finding out exactly what to eat and how much. Its each of our responsibilities to try and figure out the best approach that fits our body There are three body types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph & Endomorph. Below is a general breakdown of each body type with approximate guidelines. Ultimately its best to listen to your body and see how you feel. Ectomorphs typically are thin or petite and have a harder time gaining weight. Typically, they have a higher metabolism and should eat a higher carb, lower fat. A good percentage to start would be 55% carbs, 25% protein and 20% fat.  Mesomorphs are more athletically built and have an easier time losing fat/gaining muscle when integrating a clean diet & consistent workout routine. Their profile should be more balanced; 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat. Endomorphs have a harder time losing weight/fat and are naturally softer/less natural muscle. Their profile should be a higher fat & protein, lower carb 25%, 35% protein, 40% fat. You then take the percentages off of your total caloric intake. You can use your BMR from your inbody or the formula below to determine a baseline of how many calories to consume: Working out 0-2 per week: 11 x your ideal bodyweight = total calories per day Working out 3-4 x per week: 12 x your ideal bodyweight = total calories per day Working out 5-6 x per week: 13 x your ideal bodyweight = total calories per day From there, you would break down the amount of calories per macro nutrient  Protein % x Total calories / 4  = total protein grams Carbs % x Total calories / 4  = total protein grams Fat % x Total calories / 9  = total protein grams Lastly, you can divide the total number of grams over the amount of meals you will eat each day or plan ahead for your dinner and or lunch then work backwards through snacks to hit your macros. Remember, this is NOT a perfect equation! You'll have to test it out for yourself but this will give you a solid starting point. If you'd be interested in taking the guess work out and getting a personalized macros profile, email joe@meltworkout.com

Show notes Rather than place band aids on stuff, audit whats going on and ask “why?” Think preventive NOT reactive The quality of exercise determines the outcome Neck issues are often result of us living in an extension based world o   Made worse by stress and respiration issues (vertical breathing patterns). o   Reset respiration problems by checking in throughout the day to see where breathing is coming from and focus on using nose not mouth. o   Think “360 degree” breathing or “everywhere breath” around your low belly, sides and low back. Shin splints/ Plantarfasciitis are often caused by overuse injuries (50% load, 50% muscles) and poor mileage management. o   People often make the mistake of “running to get fit” when it should be “getting fit to run.” Training shoe spectrum: o   First and foremost ask –“how do you feel” in the shoes? o   Practice home foot care; roll bottom of your feet, wiggle your toes, make an arch and work on ankle mobility. Travel Fitness & Nutrition: Find things you can do when you’re traveling. o   “You can’t make perfection out of an imperfect schedule.” o   Focus on keeping a healthy routine, even as small or different as it might have to be. o   Think 1 x 365% o   Its not about the one off, its about the cumulative result. o   Identify healthy snacks you love and bring them with you.

On today's episode of the fat melting radio fitness podcast, Joe interviews fitness entrepreneur Trevor Buccieri. Trevor is the founder of the Core Capacity fitness franchise and author of several books. On today's fitness podcast, Trevor and Joe talk about how to find & understand the motives behind your actions so you can be more aligned, Trevor's fitness & nutrition routine and much more!   Show notes "Jump into the fire as much as you can so you can become stronger in the face of adversity" Think of your values as a snow flake, no two are alike  Your values are just as important as the next person’s.  Platinum rule: Treat others as they want to be treated To link goals to your values, simply question how is the thing you want (goal) going to benefit each one of your values? Then continue to ask the same question; why is that important? The value determination process will better help you understand what really matters - this connection to your deeper reasoning will make it more likely that you follow through with what you have to do in order to achieve your goals Trevor's process for when he is stuck in his own head: Do a mini workout and mini meditation  In talking about productivity, having the one main project that takes most the focus/time then the passion/creative project that is an investment for the future. True goal of fitness and finding mindfulness is that both are tools to help your overall being, not to achieve a surface level result i.e weight loss. These goals are an important part of the conversation but cannot be the main reason for you to get healthy as they lack the depth required to persist through hard times. Chinese Water Treatment: Drink around 32 oz of water first thing in the morning then fast for 40 minutes Trevor's workout routine includes drop sets where you do a weight for a set amount of reps, then immediately lower the weight hit another set of reps and repeat for 3-5 sets. Tempo training or manipulating tempo of a movement to create more intensity. For example with a push-up, lowering yourself down for 3 seconds, pausing for 1 second then pushing yourself back up for 3 seconds.  Got to make your workouts fun and look for ways for them to not only serve your goals but that you actually enjoy. Working out can be an art - its all about what you're looking to get out of it

3 Truths, Macros and MORE with Joe

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 8, 2019 43:42

On today's episode of the "Fat m.e.l.ting Radio" fitness podcast, Joe breaks down "macros." Today's Monday motivational segment is based on 3 truths Joe has learned through his struggles over the years to help you avoid making the same mistakes. Macro nutrients are our major sources of energy; protein, carbohydrates and fat. Counting macros is a very popular way to eat as it leaves out the guess work, however its often misguided and is not the best diet/way to eat/nutrition plan for everyone. So sit back and enjoy as Joe sorts through the noise.    Show Notes Macro nutrients are protein, fat and carbohydrates Protein & Carbs are 4 calories a gram and fat is 9 calories a gram Counting macros is a diet/way to eat/nutrition plan in which you have a set percentage of how many calories you eat of each nutrient based on the total amount of calories you should eat.  Several factors go into choosing your macros and should not be something an app randomly spits out You must first identify what your goal is; whether to lose fat or build muscle then from there balance out a bunch of factors such as how fast you metabolize to find your total calorie intake, then multiple by either 125% if your goal is to build muscle or 75% if your goal is to burn fat. From there you need to work with an expert to identity what percent of protein/carbs/fats you should have each day to determine how much you should eat at each meal. The percentages range from 30-40% of protein, 30-40% carbs and 20-40% fat. From there, you should work with an expert to monitor how you feel and make the necessary adjustments Joe is currently helping people with their macros. If you're interested, email him at joe@meltworkout.com. A personalized macros profile is $97 and 6 weeks macros coaching is $197.

Anthony shares his journey into becoming an entrepreneur, success lessons learned along, tips on juicing, what makes Acai so powerful as well as healthy recipes like their famous Berry Salad and how to make your own buffalo & vinaigrette dressing.    Takeaways/Show Notes Acai - pronounced "Ah C I" is a Brazilian super fruit  Acai has healthy fats, dietary fiber and a strong anti oxidant profile  Be careful - the sorbet form of Acai has a high suger content. Acai by itself is very bitter Two ways to juice: 1) Cold Press Juicers (a.k.a. Masticating Juicers) These newer juicers extract juice by first crushing and then pressing fruit and vegetables for the highest juice yield. Because they don't produce as much heat, they keep more of the fresh ingredients' nutrients intact. 2) More common method is Centrifugal juicers work by using a flat cutting blade on the bottom of a rapidly spinning strainer. The cut produce is forced against the juicing strainer through the use of centrifugal force. With this method, its best to consume within 15 minutes to retain nutritional value. Berry Salad: Suvi chicken, sliced almonds, feta cheese, romaine lettuce, spring mix, sunflower sprouts, strawberries and balsamic dressing Buffalo dressing: Greek yogurt base (from goat milk), franks red hot sauce and you can also add canyon pepper  Balsamic dressing: Extra virgin olive oil, mustard and balsamic dressing  To keep Avocados from browning: Lime citrus zest To keep pears and apples from browning: put into water with lemon Tip for bananas: Buy green tip, harder to open but make for a nicer presentation Resources Distributor: https://www.sambazon.com/  Kai- Kai farms, Hobe Sound

Stand against wall and practice titling chin down as the top of your head touches the wall.  2. Figure 8's: Look up to the right, down to the right, up to left, down to the left 3. Yes/No's: Exaggerating head up/down, side to side Joe's numbness in his forearms could be a result of Thoracic outlet syndrome  Mayo clinic defined TOS as: Thoracic outlet syndrome is a group of disorders that occur when blood vessels or nerves in the space between your collarbone and your first rib (thoracic outlet) are compressed. This can cause pain in your shoulders and neck and numbness in your fingers Tennis elbow is pain from outside the elbow, golf elbow is pain from inside the elbow.  -Supination stretch: Palm down, turn chest away  -Roll lax ball as you flex and extend wrist -Turn forearm upside down, roll as you flex/extend  IT band: Big misconception is people try to roll directly on it, want to roll above or below it.  To help with the pain from a tight IT band, roll the TFL with a lacrosse ball and work into the pigeon stretch. Plantar Fasciitis: Roll bottom of foot as you flex/extend ankle and stretch calf Piriformis Syndrome: Get into pigeon stretch and also sit on lax ball on chair, bring knee to chest. If too intense, put towel above lax ball and or use tennis ball.   Related Links Jordan's Office: https://pbelitewellness.com/
