This week, Jason is joined by former Navy Seal, entrepreneur, New York Times bestselling author, speaker, and podcast host, Robert J. O'Neill! Robert is one of the most highly decorated combat veterans of our time. He served at Seal Team two, Seal Team four, and eight years at the legendary Seal Team six. Having taken part in leading over 400 combat missions around the world, he has decorated 53 times with honors. More notably, Robert took part in the rescue operation Red Wings, which extracted the lone survivor Marcus Latrell. He was the lead jumper for the rescue operation that saved Captain Richard Phillips and some from the Somali Pirates, and he was a team leader for Operation Neptune Spear, the mission to kill Osama Bin Laden.  In this powerful episode, Robert shares how mastering free throws opened his eyes to the power of muscle memory and the importance of setting both short- and long-term goals. He discusses how a breakup unexpectedly led him to enlist in the Navy, the rigorous journey to becoming a Navy SEAL—including the numbers behind selection, the grueling Hell Week, and the intense “drown-proofing” training designed to teach calm under pressure. Robert reflects on the critical need for adaptability, managing stress, and keeping things simple under extreme conditions. He opens up about the long-term emotional processing of his time on the SEAL team, takes us behind the scenes of the mission to find Osama Bin Laden, and shares the mindset that fueled that operation. Robert also discusses the aftermath of becoming publicly known as the man who killed Bin Laden, the financial realities faced by many in the military, and his efforts to support veterans through new initiatives. Finally, he explores the concept of the butterfly effect—and shares his perspective on the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Robert reveals all this and so much more in another episode you can't afford to miss! If you've ever wanted mentorship, expert instruction, and a slight brush with aquatic panic, this is your episode. We're breaking down everything you need to know: deep-ass pools, buddy breathing without drowning your buddy, and how Drownproofing in the same pool as Deep End Fitness is more of a spiritual journey than a drill.

Kaj Larsen did not follow the typical route to becoming a U.S. Navy SEAL. He was admitted to the U.S. Naval Academy but left after two years to focus on playing water polo at the collegiate level. A few years later he enlisted in the Navy and immediately tried to get a slot in Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL (BUD/s) training in Coronado, California. Those billets are not usually given to men who left Annapolis but Larsen managed to snag one after his lifeguarding skills made headlines. In this edition of Veterans Chronicles, Larsen explains his path to becoming a SEAL officer in more detail, his thoughts upon arriving at Coronado, and how the incredible intensity of the training started during the first hour of the very first day. Larsen also details the agony of "Hell Week," his most difficult moments during BUD/s, and what the seemingly ruthless instructors are trying to achieve through their relentless demands. Larsen also tells us what it was like being in the middle of this training when the 9/11 terrorist attacks struck the U.S.Finally, Larsen reveals what his first combat experience was like and how SEAL gear and tactics have evolved since his time in combat as a result of new technologies and adapting to the tactics of our enemies.

He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and completed SEAL Qualification Training with class 234. Geary has served in various leadership roles, including at SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team TWO, SEAL Team FOUR, and as Commanding Officer of Naval Special Warfare Basic Training Command. In 2022, Geary faced controversy following the death of SEAL candidate Kyle Mullen during "Hell Week" training. He was accused of dereliction of duty and negligent command supervision, leading to a board of inquiry scheduled for November 2024. Geary defended the SEAL training process, arguing its effectiveness in preparing warfighters, while acknowledging the need for refinement. As of December 2024, disciplinary efforts against Geary were dropped by the Navy. Geary's career now hangs in the balance due to a Navy probe into the mysterious death of trainee and Seaman Kyle Mullen, who tragically lost his life during the infamous training period known as "Hell Week." The Navy investigation initially pinned blame on the training cadre, but as pressure from Congress and Geary's testimony grows, a different narrative is coming to light. Geary's attorney stated that "when all the key facts emerge, the Navy's improper actions will be exposed -- and it will be undeniable that Capt. Jonathan Wilson is a former Navy SEAL and Founder of INVI Mindhealth. This episode documents his life and work, on and off the battlefield. Wilson's interest was set on the military at an early age, as his Father was an MP and traveling around became the norm. He would eventually set his sights on the Naval Academy and Naval Special Warfare. Wilson's early days were marked with mischief that nearly ended his career. Yet, through fate and luck, he made it to "Hell Week." He excelled in the SEAL Teams with a demanding op tempo and fighting in some of the worst combat zones like Sadr City. After multiple deployments, he left the SEAL Team's to explore a civilian career on Wall Street. The toll a high stress career at Goldman Sachs took on his family life and the lack of purpose ultimately lead him back to the Teams. After winding down his incredible career, he went on to start the Seal Future Foundation and INVI Mindhealth. INVI is a mobile app that "leverages the connectivity of the autonomic nervous system & the mind to provide actionable analysis" of human biometrics. INVI's goal is to end the veteran suicide epidemic with monitoring and preventative measures.
