In conclusion, Brendan encourages listeners to not be afraid to explore their passions. [00:00 - 07:27] How to Communicate Effectively • Brendan Kumarasamy is the founder of Master Talk, a coaching business that helps ambitious executives and entrepreneurs become top 1% communicators in their industry. • Brendan started making videos as a side hustle in January 2019 and grew the business to 27,000 subscribers in just four years. • Brendan's main focus is coaching executives and entrepreneurs on how to communicate effectively, but he also offers free information on his YouTube channel. • Brendan recommends starting with one ball (a random word exercise) to help beginners learn how to juggle communication effectively. [07:28 - 14:34] How to Overcome Your Fear of Public Speaking • The first step to overcoming fear is to learn how to walk. • The second step is to become proactive and ask questions every day. • The third step is to send videos messages of appreciation. • The fourth step is to manage fear by understanding it is a different threshold. [14:34 - 21:38] Why You Shouldn't Start Speaking Too Soon • Brenden discusses how his fear of public speaking led to him becoming a speaker, and how his mission-driven mindset has helped him overcome many challenges. • He recommends starting out by giving a presentation to just two people, and then gradually increasing the size of the audience. • He emphasizes the importance of being honest with oneself about why one is pursuing public speaking, and advises against making excuses. How to start communicating effectively Effective communication is essential for any relationship. Whether you're trying to build a rapport with a new acquaintance, networking for a new job, or just chatting with your family, effective communication is key. Here are some tips on how to start communicating effectively: • Be aware of your body language. Your body language can say a lot about how you're feeling and what you're thinking. Make sure to keep your body relaxed and avoid crossing your arms or legs in an uncomfortable way. • Pay attention to the other person's words and tone of voice. Words and tones of voice can be very important when trying to communicate effectively. Pay attention to the way the other person is speaking, and try to match their tone of voice. If they're angry, try to be calm and reassuring. • Be clear and concise. When you're trying to communicate with someone, it's important to be as clear as possible. Make sure to use short sentences and avoid using jargon or complex vocabulary. If you need more time to explain something, be sure to say so. • Don't take things personally. It can be easy to take things personally when we're trying to communicate with others. But remember that everyone is different, and what one person might find offensive may not bother another person at all. Just try to keep things in perspective and focus on the task at hand rather than on the other person's personality traits. How to be proactive in answering questions When it comes to communication, it's important to be proactive and answer questions as soon as possible. This way, you can avoid any misunderstandings and keep your relationships healthy. Here are a few tips for being proactive in communication: • Make a list of the questions that you're likely to be asked. This will help you prepare for the conversation and avoid getting caught off guard. • Anticipate the other person's questions and try to have an answer ready. This will show that you're paying attention and that you're interested in the...

Today in the Book Lounge, Tom & Karin discuss the book The Lean Startup with special guest Brendan Kumarasamy. Each week Book Insights creator and author of The 50 Classics Series Tom Butler-Bowdon and Memo'd Program Manager Karin Richey invite you to join their fun and casual conversation about the book of the week. Hear what they love it about, what they don't, how they rate it, and how it can advance your work and life. You'll learn why it was selected to be part of the curated list of Book Insights, and what's new with the book or the author currently. This week, Tom and Karin offer you insight on: *Business and public speaking coach Brendan Kumarasamy's favorite startup success stories and why most people never hear about 95% of startups. *The value of risk, iteration, minimum viable product and being customer-obsessed. *Why most startups fail and how to implement Eric Ries wisdom in "The Lean Startup" - which has come to be known as "the bible of Silicon Valley". He coaches business executives, and has experience coaching many startups. https://www.mastertalk.ca/ What is the difference between Book Insights episodes and Book Lounge episodes? Book Insights are formal, structured summary, analysis and exploration of a bestselling nonfiction book. Each episode is read by a professional voice actor and will introduce a new title selected specifically for its value to your work and life. Book Lounge episodes are casual discussions about the book, the author, and anything else that comes along through the course of conversation. It's more of a broad chat about how the book relates to current, everyday life. Should I listen to both the Book Insight and the Book Lounge episode on the same book? Sure! Each episode works fine as a standalone piece, so no requirement to listen to both or to listen in any particular order, but we definitely recommend (and think you'll enjoy!) both. Think of it like reading a book and liking it so much you want to chat about it on the porch with a friend. That is the vibe at the Book Lounge. Like what you hear? Communication skills are a must for any successful individual. They allow you to connect with others and influence decisions that may impact your work life and the world at large as well as helping to create change when necessary. Public speaking is one of the most dreaded forms of communication. Glossophobia or speech anxiety affects people everywhere – over 77% of people have some level of anxiety about public speaking. For most of us, it can be daunting challenge to get up in front of others when you're terrified! From our elementary school days to adulthood, everyday interactions between coworkers can quickly turn into a nightmare if you don't master some of these skills; yet, most of us do not know how, or do not take the time to practice our communication and public speaking skills on a regular basis. Today our guest, Brendan Kumarasamy, will give us insight on ways we can take practical steps to get started getting comfortable with public speaking. He created a channel to help people like you and I gain the confidence needed to step up and deliver and present with smooth efficiency. In this episode we cover the following topics:
As a business owner, you're probably doing even more public speaking than you realize: sales calls; elevator pitches; speaking events; video marketing; and more! Oh my! Becoming a more confident public speaker can help your business improve across the board. Brendan Kumarasamy, founder of MasterTalk, will share his tips & tricks for everything from practicing with intention to presenting in virtual settings. You'll leave with actionable advice to improve your own public speaking — and grow your business.
In this episode of the Success Fundamentals Podcast, Kris and Brian talk to Public Speaking coach and entrepreneur Brendan Kumarasamy. Brendan shares the challenges he encountered when he started coaching C-Suite executives in public speaking and communication at the tender age of 22, and the mindset he has developed to overcome these difficulties. Despite his young age, Brendan's business acumen and skill has allowed him to earn the trust of executives that have more years of work experience under their belt than he has been alive. For Brendan, it's all about perseverance, and staying true to the three truths that he wants to leave behind for the world. HIGHLIGHTSGetting over impostor syndrome and becoming an expert What are the three truths you would leave behind? Never say wow, always ask howFocus on the easiest problems first Be insane, or be the sameTake care of the people that already believe in you firstMoney and power just amplifies what you already are QUOTESBrendan: "Most of us think being an expert is like, oh, you need a PhD or a master's degree. Whereas for me, being an expert simply means that you are one chapter ahead of the next person in that skill." Brendan: "Make a list of the top three people you admire the most in your life and pretend they were already your friends, asking you for feedback. What feedback would you give them?"Brendan: "When every decision in your life makes sense to the only person that should, which is you, you're probably making the right decision."Brendan: "For every podcast I'm on, where I know these two people already bought into me. These people have taken the time to watch my YouTube videos. They know I'm competent, there's another nine that don't. There's another nine that go well he's just a kid, what's this guy gonna teach me about communication. But if you focus on that 90%, you're not gonna move the ball. But if you triple down on these two guys, you treat this like a Joe Rogan podcast, you show up really strong for the people who want to show up for you, you'll win by a landslide."Connect with Brendan in the links below:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendenkumarasamy/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/MasterTalksFree Training: https://www.rockstarcommunicator.com/Follow Success Fundamentals on the following links below: Website: https://www.successfundamentals.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4XCvuwxnFi5_7C6Ncm12xQLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/success-fundamentals™Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/successfundamentalspodcastInstagram: https://instagram.com/successfundamentalspodcast
