Natalie talks to Bob Allen, an osteopath who specialises in treating people with disabilities and older adults. Bob shares his personal journey of transitioning from a career in IT to becoming an osteopath after his son was born with cerebral palsy. He also talks about the challenges of navigating the healthcare system for chronic conditions and the lack of support for people with disabilities. It's a conversation about the power of communication, the impact of stress on the body, and the importance of being an advocate for one's own health. Bob also shares his experience of running health and fitness courses for people with disabilities and his commitment to making a difference in the lives of their clients. KEY TAKEAWAYS Confidence in oneself and the willingness to take on new challenges can lead to personal and professional growth. It is important to understand the root cause of a problem and not just focus on treating the symptoms. The healthcare system, particularly the NHS, may not always provide the best support for chronic or long-term conditions. Being proactive and advocating for one's own health can lead to better outcomes and access to necessary treatments. Virtual reality therapy is an emerging field that has the potential to enhance traditional therapies and improve patient outcomes. BEST MOMENTS "I think the biggest problem the NHS, it's very good around treating conditions, rather than preventing those conditions in the first place." "It's about not worrying if it doesn't work... If that doesn't work, I'll find another way to do it." "You can't hack certain things. The only thing that gets results is consistency." "I think we're in a society which is very much a quick fix... I want to do it tomorrow. I want a hack that's going to show me how to do that." Plants Grow Here - Horticulture, Landscape Gardening & Ecology
Have you ever tendered for a property development project, only to be rejected for some unknown reason? Why is it that some people are able to win work from property developers, while others seem to struggle with this type of client? It may have something to do with your ability to meet them on their own wavelength.Sometimes, as horticulturists, ecologists, landscape architects and landscapers, we can get a bit caught up in out own world. This episode is a step into the (sometimes scary) mind of a property developer, who also just happens to be my mum.EPISODE LINKSHort People job board: HortPeople.comFOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIATwitter: @PlantsGrowHere / Facebook: @PlantsGrowHerePodcast - Join our Facebook group!VISIT OUR WEBSITEwww.PlantsGrowHere.comLET'S WORK TOGETHERAre you in the industry or an enthusiast with something of value to share? Natalie reflects on the past year and expresses gratitude for the amazing guests and listeners who have been a part of the community, before sharing exciting plans for the upcoming year, including in-person events, a retreat in Majorca, and exploring the spiritual world and energy healing. KEY TAKEAWAYS Take a few minutes to reflect on their achievements and areas for improvement from the past year. This reflection can help set intentions for the future. Think about your goals and desires for the upcoming year, in order to build confidence, health, wealth, and happiness for a successful life. Upcoming episodes will touch on controversial topics, such as choosing to be child-free, but we must have the confidence to discuss and explore such topics, in order to provide support and understanding to those who may be fearful or facing judgment. BEST MOMENTS "Thank you very much for being a part of this community, for listening, and for everything that you give to me from it as well." "For me, it's really about building our community online and in person, bringing people together, everybody making a fuck ton of money because life's too short to be poor." "So having the confidence to put that out and speak about that and help people who may be fearful of that or those kinds of topics come to the forefront as well." Natalie shares her personal experience with a running challenge called Marcothon, which she participates in every December. Despite her dislike for running, Natalie explains why she chooses to take on this challenge for 31 consecutive days. She believes that great success comes from doing the hard things and being disciplined. By pushing herself to run every day, Natalie aims to demonstrate that anyone is capable of achieving their goals and increasing their confidence. KEY TAKEAWAYS The speaker participates in a running challenge called Marcothon every December, despite hating running. This challenge involves running every day for a minimum of 25 minutes or 3 miles/5 kilometres. The purpose of the challenge is personal growth and self-discipline. By pushing through something they dislike, the speaker believes they can develop the discipline to achieve anything they want in life. The speaker uses creating daily videos of their runs as a form of accountability and motivation. Sharing these videos on social media and in the Marcothon group helps them stay committed and inspires others. Doing things outside of one's comfort zone and adding an element of fun can help increase confidence and drive success. The speaker's use of slides during their runs exemplifies this approach. BEST MOMENTS "The reason that I do it is because great success comes from doing the hard things." "You cannot possibly lead from the front and try to help people if you are not doing the do yourself." "I do this challenge in order to encourage you to do the hard things in life, whether that is with your health, wealth or happiness, to push yourself further to do something that will get you better results in the end." "Sometimes you have to do the things that are the hardest in order to make your life easier later on." He discusses his experiences working with a psychic medium and the profound messages he has witnessed being delivered to complete strangers. Natalie invites you to participate in a special mentoring session, conducted by herself and famed business mind, Gerald Ratner, in which they touch on the temptations and challenges of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, such as exercise and alcohol consumption. The conversation then shifts to the concept of facing difficult situations and the pleasure that comes from overcoming them. The hosts share personal experiences with stress and its physical manifestations, highlighting the importance of addressing stress and finding outlets for it. They also discuss the impact of limiting beliefs and societal conditioning on personal and financial growth. KEY TAKEAWAYS Engaging in difficult tasks and challenges can bring more satisfaction and pleasure than taking the easy route. Avoiding difficult situations or burying one's head in the sand can lead to more stress and negative consequences in the long run. It is important to confront and address stress and its manifestations in the body, such as brain fog or physical symptoms, in order to find relief and improve overall well-being. Challenging limiting beliefs and societal norms can lead to personal growth and the ability to create one's own destiny. BEST MOMENTS "Exercise is the opposite. We know what we should do, but there's so many temptations out there that we don't always do it." "It's annoying because we know how we can feel better, but we don't always do it." "We only get pleasure from achieving things that are difficult, that we have to make an effort and then we get the pleasure that we succeeded." - "It's very true. It is annoying. And all of the hard stuff that you don't appreciate in the time, in the moment, it's like, why is this hard?" Does working in a property-related trade mean you can easily transition into the world of property developer? Just because you understand one small part of a development project doesn't automatically mean you can run a development project, but it can certainly help. My guest on this episode is Mark Lovett from Liquid Silver Developments. Mark has a long and storied career doing small to medium scale development projects, starting out as a plasterer before moving into property investing. He then decided to try his hand at property developing and purchased his first site with absolutely no idea of what he was doing, and later found out there was an underground stream running through the site. We have a great conversation covering things like: - Understanding your risk appetite and how that will effect your decision making - How his initial due diligence evolved from doing nothing - What he has done throughout his career that has helped him succeed.
