Cole Kramer started guiding in 2002 fresh out of high school from the Midwest & seeking adventure on Kodiak Island. He was very blessed to have started visiting Kodiak Island since the age of eleven to visit family that was there as Coast Guard getting the opportunity to hunt & fish a few times before moving in 2002. Cole was hired as a greenhorn packer for Mountain Goat, Sitka Blacktail Deer & Brown Bear. He wanted to soak up all the knowledge he could for Kodiak & over time expanded his experience throughout the state guiding hunters for moose, sheep, caribou, & grizzly bears. Visiting many of the top outfitter's lodges, cabins & tent camps he was able to see what worked & what didn't, what clients were pleased with & what they weren't... A fantastic experience to say the least. In 2006 he started Kramer's Kodiak Guide Service, a guide service mainly focusing on "hardcore" backpack Mountain Goat & Sitka Blacktail deer hunts & a few brown bear hunts. Cole has not only ran one of the most successful operations on Kodiak, he has also travelled the world and become an authority on mountain hunting. We get into the recent goat hunt he, Cole Kramer, and retired Recon Marine Jonathon Blank did. Trevor is very knowledgeable in nutrition, so we get into what the American diet's biggest determinants are and what people should be doing with food consumption. This is a great conversation!

We dive deep into the values that were instilled in him from a young age, and how he carries them into life today. Hunting in Alaska is an adventure. The country is spectacularly rugged and remote, the animals are huge and often dangerous, and the weather alone can ground you for days. My Alaskan moose hunt was definitely an adventure, and I was able to share it with my talented guide, Cole Kramer and incredibly hard working packer, Luke Gerig. Both Cole and Luke grew up in flatter parts of the lower 48, but shared a desire from an early age to become an Alaskan Guide. Cole first came up to Alaska in 2002 and became a fully registered guide in 2006 with his business Kramer's Kodiak Guide Service. Luke is just starting out in his career as a packer, the first step to becoming a guide, and with his talent and work ethic, I expect he'll do great things. We sat down after a successful hunt and discussed what it really takes to be a guide in Alaska. Guiding in this country is no easy task. The knowledge and skills that you need are extensive, but not unattainable with some determination. According to these guys, no matter what age you are, if you've ever wanted to live this life, just go for it. On InstagramCole KramerLuke GerigBook a Hunt with Cole

Next up for the podcast Doogie talks with a couple future Gophers in QB Cole Kramer then OL Tyler Cooper. The guests are rounded out by the foursome from Minnehaha Academy who all have Power-5 football offers: Jalen Suggs, Kaden Johnson, Terry Lockett, and Craig McDonald. On this episode I'm joined by Cole Kramer out of Kodiak, Alaska, one of the top guides in mountain hunting today. Cole, a small town Kansas kid, was inspired by his Aunt and Uncle to venture North after high school and has since made a living guiding hunters in Alaska's harshest conditions. Cole and I first met a few years back when I hadn't yet been on what I would call a true adventure hunt--think backcountry drop camps in sub-zero temps or hiking to 18,000 feet of elevation to kill a sheep. It's through those experiences that I was able to challenge myself, and watch Cole overcome hunting's roughest conditions with ease. I've also gotten to know him as a friend. On this episode Cole joined me at the Total Archery Challenge in Terry Peak, South Dakota for a weekend of shooting and a great conversation. We talked about how he came to be guide, how adventures sharpen the willing hunter, respecting bears, bear on bear violence, and our trip to Nepal chasing blue sheep. This is one of my favorite podcasts to date. Enjoy. Today on Gritty Bowmen we hang out with friend Donnie Vincent. I could sit an listen to Donnie tell stories for hours. He’s an explorer, biologist, conservationist, and sportsman. And a gifted weaver of adventurous tales in wild and remote places. When Donnie’s storytelling transcends the spoken word and comes to life in the form of cinematic film--it’s incredible. His films change hearts and minds. And films like, “Who We Are,” “The River’s Divide,” and “Terra Nova,” have permanently changed how I view the world and the hunt. So sit back and enjoy the show. And then, if you haven’t already, support Donnie by getting his film’s at www.donnievincent.com. Those who know me, know that I love a good hunting story. And I’m no Donnie Vincent but Gritty Bowmen has its own brand of filmmaking--it’s kinda Gritty… it’s a bit unpolished, it usually has a few smart-aleck comments, some shaky footage, some adventure and it reminds you of the hunts you go on with your buddies. So with that preamble, I have an announcement to make. On Thursday, February 8th at the Western Hunt Expo in Salt Lake City, I’ll be showing my latest Gritty film on the big screen. And it’s not just my film that’ll be showing, my good friend Cole Kramer will also be featuring his YETI film from Nepal that night as well. There will be Gritty Bingo, Prizes, Raffles, Giveaways and much more! My good friends at Sitka Gear, YETI, HOYT, MTN OPS, and Leupold Optics are helping to make this event a fun one! Raffle proceeds go to the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance. Please, if you want to support Gritty and you’re coming to the Western Hunt Expo, please go to www.mtnops.com/gritty and get tickets now. Please spread the word--invite your friends and family, and come see what a Gritty Movie Night is all about. Here’s a 30-second trailer for the film--check it out.
In one of the most fun podcasts we've ever done, Randy sets up his podcast kit at the Sitka Gear Inaugural Converge Event in Bozeman, Montana, welcoming anyone who wants to put on a headset and talk hunting. Taking the invitation are Mark Kenyon from Wired to Hunt podcast and David Brinker from Sitka Gear. Part way through we are joined by Brian Call of Gritty Bowmen, then added to the conversation are Dustin Roe, a serious sheep outfitter from Cranbrook BC, and Cole Kramer, a Brown Bear outfitter from Kodiak, Alaska. Topics covered are endless, ranging from sentimental hunts, untold conservation stories, hunting the Great Basin states, unexpected encounters, misses, worst shot you ever made, pressure or just unprepared, hunting with pack dogs, clients not listening to guides, the normal small dose of marital advice, videoing your own hunt, breaking body parts while hiking, language edits on camera, hunters seeing the world through a different lens, and more.
On this episode, Adam welcomes renowned Alaskan Guide Cole Kramer on to the show. Cole is one of the most sought after Alaskan Brown Bear, Mountain Goat and Sheep guides in the business today. In this episode Adam and Cole dig into a whole host of topics but spend a good portion of the show talking about hunting big Alaskan bears. From incredible guiding stories to tips on field judging mature boars and hunt preparation, Cole does his best to distill well over a decade of experience into 90 minutes. If you have even a passing interest in what it takes to successfully hunt one of North America’s true apex predators this is a must listen episode. But even if you never intend to hunt big bears, this episode is chock-full of tips and insights about what it takes to succeed in some of the harshest environments on the planet.
