Danny Collins is a comedy with a real family drama at the heart of it. It see's Pacino's Danny Collins, a one-hit wonder from decades previous, try to rekindle his relationship with his estranged son while also playing to sold-out crowds. You'll laugh and cry at it. But sadly it is an underseen Pacino film. Now, on it's 10th anniversary (it was released March 2015), the inspiration behind the initial story of Danny Collins joins the podcast. English Singer-Songwriter Steve Tilston is the original Danny Collins. Well, sort of. He explains how the film came to be based on his much delayed letter from John Lennon, why he was so pleased to be involved and what it was like getting a hug from Al Pacino. All About Al: The Pacino Podcast is written, presented and produced by Mark Searby. In this episode of Talking Art, host Ben Gougeon welcomes Colm Phelan and Danny Collins from the award-winning traditional Irish ensemble, Goitse.
John Paul speaks to: Cork councillor Finbarr Harrington on new speed limits coming into place next Friday. Statistician Daniel Watts about the CSO new survey which found a record number of young people still live at home. Cork councillor Danny Collins on OPW overspending on signs in West Cork. Julieanne Kelly from the IBTS and Cork blood donor Liam O'Mahoney. IRD Duhallow's Maura Walsh on a new localised response centre in Newmarket following Storm Éowyn. Peter Dowdall returns to answer your gardening questions. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Chip Scoggins, Ryan Burns and Justin Gaard are back and open the show talking about the vibe at Williams Arena over the weekend for Gopher basketball and how it relates to football. Gaardsy thinks he figured out why Burnsie was so mad about the delay in announcing Danny Collins as Gopher defensive coordinator. The guys react to the report that Ohio State actually lost almost $40 million last fiscal year?
Happy Holidays from The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we discuss the incomparable Al Pacino with the returning Mitchell Beaupre! Our B-Sides today include Bobby Deerfield, Revolution, Frankie & Johnny, and Danny Collins. We discuss Pacino's legacy (is he our greatest living actor?), his Oscar win for Scent of a Woman (what a silly plot that movie has!), and his deeply earnest autobiography Sonny Boy. We dish on what doesn't work about Bobby Deerfield (for one, it's too quiet), what does work about Revolution (hint: it's the production design), how Michelle Pfeiffer was unfairly criticized for Frankie & Johnny, and why Danny Collins is much better than you think. Conor asks: Is Adam Sandler the new Pacino? Mitchell asks: Was Pacino's smallness in Bobby Deerfield and its failure a primary reason he stayed big for so long? Dan asks: Hey Baby Doll, what's going on? There's a reflection on Dan's problematic review of Jack & Jill from over thirteen years ago (yikes!), a tacit comparison between Pacino and Kenneth Branagh (whose recent King Lear production has been criticized, though we thoroughly enjoyed it), and a recollection of Jerry Weintraub helping Ellen Barkin with Ocean's Thirteen. A murdered teenager found near a bus route in 1970s Putnam County. Danny Collins' case is sparse, but just an hour away - another case with a similar method was brewing. A connection was drawn to another case of attempted murder. Four boys survived an encounter to help implicate the suspect - but it's unknown if the criminal in question ever met with justice - for what was done to the four boys, or to Danny Collins. How does a guy with a promising pro baseball career with the Atlanta Braves end up in prison. Danny Collins survived his journey, and it is one heck of a story. This episode is a little different from my other episodes. I sat down with Danny Collins who has an amazing story of having everything going for him, but losing, what seemed to be everything, due to addiction. After being drafted and signed by the Atlanta Braves, his life took a downward spiral. But his story doesn't end there. While Danny is very open and transparent about his drug abuse and other decisions that landed him in prison, he didn't let that define him for the rest of his life. We have a very healthy debate about prison and needed police reform. While we may not agree on everything, we agree that discussion needs to be had in a civil and productive manner. We just scratched the surface on this episode and I've asked him to appear on my new podcast, Dean's List, to go deeper with things. Now Danny makes a living with a wonderful company has that has a unique housing solution designed to make housing more affordable again. Check out their website at www.containingluxury.com. You'll be amazed at the beautiful home designs using containers! By the way, Danny made if very clear to me in our off the air discussions that he is not a supporter of the cash bail system in the United States. And really, a byproduct of that is helping people fall in love with our beautiful natural landscapes and therefore want to protect it.” (2:01) - Danny Collins“Northwest Arkansas is growing at such an incredibly rapid rate, and there's so many exciting aspects to that…It's a really vibrant combination of these people that are moving in from really everywhere with a community that is putting everything into the outdoor connection.” (15:11) - Danny Collins“For so long, [outdoor programming for youth] was just about teaching your kid how to fish, teaching your kid how to kayak, and the list goes on…For us, we are like, ‘Teach your kid how to love the outdoors. Teach your kid how to feel comfortable in the outdoors and how to slow down.' So we lead with the connection to self, connection to others, and connection to nature.” (32:05) - Danny Collins

This week, we're looking at another surprise Golden Globe nomination that fueled minor Oscar talk, 2015′s Danny Collins. Thank you for listening to our Finding Brave show, ranked in the Top 100 Apple Career Podcasts! “The whole book is about me finding happiness in my own way, and what it looked like for someone like me to walk through what I did, be it losing 100 pounds, or facing drug and alcohol addiction and then eventually pivoting in my career. It was all of these things that allowed me to find what happiness was for me, and then redefine it.” - Josh Peck Today's Finding Brave guest shares his view that happiness is beside the point, and life is really all about finding contentment through relationships, curiosity, and connection. He is ready to chip away at the glitz and glamor to expose the highs and lows of his journey as an actor and influencer, and I could not be more excited to share this candid and thought-provoking conversation with you today. If you do a web search for Steve Tilston, most of the results will be about John Lennon. Lennon wrote a letter to a young Steve offering him advice, but Steve did not know about the letter until decades later. His story would eventually become the 2015 film Danny Collins starring Al Pachino. Steve's talked about this subject probably one thousand times and it might be the biggest thing that defines his career. However, there is so much more to talk about with Steve! He's worked with folk legends Fairport Convention, Bert Jansch, Maggie Boyle, Chris Smither and many more. His latest album, Such Times, has incredible energy and his signature British folk guitar playing.Steve talks about his partnership with the late Maggie Boyle and how she was instrumental in deepening his interest and knowledge of Irish music. He reflects on how his children's interest in music has kept him engaged and involved. This is the 50th anniversary of Steve starting up in the music business! We talk about all this.... and yes, we talk about the Lennon letter, too. Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
