Margo is joined by independent filmmaker and writer Courtney Daniels to discuss the joys and challenges of creating outside the Hollywood studio system. Courtney shares her journey from writing spec scripts as a receptionist at Warner Brothers to producing her own feature films, including What Other Couples Do. She opens up about the power of not waiting for validation, making films on a budget, and turning her latest screenplay, A Blind Date in NYC, into a short novel. Together, they explore the freedom of independent creativity and why success comes from taking action rather than waiting to be chosen. Margo and Courtney discuss: The freedom of independent filmmaking outside Hollywood Why waiting for validation hinders creativity How Courtney made her first feature film on a shoestring budget Tips for affordable filmmaking and getting started with minimal resources Turning a screenplay into a book: A Blind Date in NYC Overcoming fear and embracing the creative process Film festivals as stepping stones for indie filmmakers Building daily creative habits to stay inspired The importance of manufacturing surprise in storytelling Connect with Courtney: https://courtneydanielsfilms.com/ https://www.instagram.com/courtneydanielstoyou/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/courtney-daniels-9abb0864 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQFenMHq7I8 https://www.amazon.com/What-Other-Couples-Michael-Friedman/dp/B00QLZRLKK https://www.amazon.com/Its-Not-You-Courtney-Daniels/dp/B0CJJZ9VTG Connect with Margo: www.windowsillchats.com www.instagram.com/windowsillchats www.patreon.com/inthewindowsill https://www.yourtantaustudio.com/thefoundry

For this episode, I have my lovely client Courtney who... is quite accomplished, to say the least. Courtney, as you can see by the title, is a lawyer, opera singer, and an equestrian. Courtney needed a photoshoot for her professional career so we spent some time on the phone doing a deep dive into the Courtney Daniels brand. We ended up having a crazy 7-hour shoot going from my studio to her lovely home to photograph her with her singing dog Amadeus and beautiful horse Gary.
The red flags we ignore at the beginning of a relationship always seem to be the exact reasons why the relationship had to end. Despite Courtney "CoCo" Daniels' outward success, she found herself in an all-consuming romantic relationship with a man who was not who he purported to be. This toxic, abusive relationship full of lies and gaslighting almost cost her entire life. This is the first time that Courtney shares this story publicly.

How long will change take? Should we all just settle in and "wait for a new generation"?Rahm Emmanuel, former White House Chief of Staff, Mayor of Chicago and brother of Ari Emmanual of WME was once quoted in the New York Times saying, "We can't kick the can down the road because we've run out of road." In today's episode, miniseries co-producer and a recurring guest on the show, Yolanda T. Cochran takes the reigns again to ponder what we should realistically expect by way of change in gender parity and politics.Fellow podcaster, Julie Harris Walker (of "the other 50%" - a Herstory of Hollywood and Herstory of Tech) joins us in the early days of her podcast to share thoughts on: what she's learned from talking to women executives in the business, where the women's movement may have had some shortcomings, and what the outlook of change is looking like.Likewise, Courtney Daniels, actress, producer and founder of Busted Buggy Entertainment gives some input on whether a "united front" from women is either viable or effective for women in high places in the biz.And finally, an excerpt from Ryan Murphy's acceptance speech for The Hollywood Reporter's inaugural Equity in Entertainment award makes a case for the argument that patience may not be a virtue.About the Mini-seriesBreaking the Glass is a Radio Film School podcast mini-series and short film docu-series addressing the issues of gender inequality in film and television. BEHIND THE LENS guests just keep getting better and this week the proof is in the pudding as film critic debbie elias welcomes special guests writer/director/producer Michael Damian talking his latest film, HIGH STRUNG, and actress/producer Courtney Daniels is on hand with RESCUE DOGS. Many of you remember Michael Damian for his starring turn as Danny Ramalotti on the long running soap opera "The Young and the Restless" or, for his string of #1 hits on the pop/rock charts. But what you may not know is Michael is also a successful writer/director and producer. Working with Michael as co-writer/co-producer is his wife Janeen and together they have combined their talents and pieces of their own life's journeys for one of the most beautiful and emotionally fulfilling sensory experiences of the year with HIGH STRUNG. Dance and music come together in a poetic explosion of beauty under Michael's guiding eye and he joins me at the 12 minute mark of the show live from the TCL Chinese Theatre where he's readying for tomorrow's world premiere. You can hear the excitement in his voice as he talks about the challenges of lighting and camera choreography and the joy of serendipitous moments in shooting, not to mention his reaction to a very special alignment of the stars in connection with the film's release date of April 8th! At the 30 minute mark, we literally go to the dogs with actress and producer Courtney Daniels and her latest venture RESCUE DOGS. Just speaking with Courtney, you can hear the elation in her voice as she talks about working with some wonderful animals in this wholly entertaining family film. As a founder of Busted Buggy Entertainment, and its new distribution arm, Courtney also dons her producer's hat talking about producing challenges and considerations when working with animals. Plus, she fills us in on a very unique and heartfelt distribution campaign for the film unfolding across America starting April 1st. Filmmakers will find what Courtney has to say of particular interest while animal lovers and moviegoers will sit back and go "awwwww"! And we've got another exclusive clip for you with director Patricia Riggen talking about MIRACLES FROM HEAVEN. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
