Join us as we sit down with Professor Delphie Dugal-Tessier, an accomplished martial artist and passionate advocate for women's self-defense. With over 15 years of experience in martial arts, her journey began after retiring from the National Mogul Team in search of a new way to stay fit and active. She discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and quickly fell in love with the art, competing across North America and eventually winning the Master World Championship as a purple belt. Today, she holds a black belt in BJJ, awarded by the renowned Marcelo Garcia, as well as a black belt in Self-Defense Jiu-Jitsu. Delphie is a dedicated self-defense instructor, teaching kickboxing, grappling, and self-defense at Silver 7 Martial Arts and Fitness, as well as through community programs. Her mission to empower women stems from a personal experience that underscored the importance of self-defense beyond physical techniques, focusing on mental preparedness and situational awareness. She believes that self-defense is primarily mental and emphasizes teaching women how to avoid dangerous situations while establishing strong personal boundaries. Beyond her martial arts expertise, Delphie holds a PhD in Neuroscience and conducts research on how nutrients can support brain health, integrating a holistic approach to well-being in both body and mind. #PKCC #martialarts #BJJ

This week for episode 5 of season 2 we're doing things a little differently, shining a spotlight on two Aussie brands to identify how they impact and support the Australian community through crisis support and mental health advocacy and awareness. To do this, Delphie will be covering Lifeline, Australia's 24/7 suicide and mental health support hotline. While Frank will be covering Beyond Blue, set up as a national initiative to reduce the stigma of mental health issues and create awareness for how it can be effectively helped. So that we can show how their brands have evolved to become the organisations Aussies trust and turn to in crisis. As always, we look under the hood of each brand to identify how it positions itself, how it communicates with key messaging, how it communicates visually in its identity and what brand experience it offers its intended audience and consumers. If you or someone you know is in need of crisis or mental health support Contact Lifeline Please visit: https://www.lifeline.org.au Or call: 13 11 14 Contact Beyond Blue Please visit: https://www.beyondblue.org.au Or call: 1300 224 636 And if you wish to donate to one or both charities, you can do so via their website.

This time around, Kevin and Mike get into the groove with Liz Phair’s debut album, Exile in Guyville. Before they break it down, Mike suffers the embarrassment of mispronouncing the name of our bestest pal, Arianne, and Kevin proclaims the gospel of Ted Leo. The guys discuss the history and artistry of Exile in Guyville, chatting about the album’s forthright lyricism, its evocative guitar work, and its storied association with Exile on Main Street by the Rolling Stone. As Mike's boxer puppy Delphie frolics in the background, they run through the record track by track, comparing notes about the style and substance of Liz Phair’s first big splash. Before signing off, Mike reveals his pick for the next episode. Related, recommended, and required resources for this episode: Brigette Bardot: "Contact!"
