Four years ago Elysia Krstevski didn't know what ecommerce was. She'd spent 15 years in musical theatre, working her way from receptionist to co-CEO. Today she runs Mekė Baby, the brand behind Australia's first portable milk warmer, she's in the 2026 Top 50 People in eCommerce, and she's the face of Australia Post's national "Big Boss Energy" campaign. It started with a bad moment. Stuck in a supermarket during Covid, dealing with mastitis and unable to warm expressed milk for her screaming baby, Elysia went looking for a product that didn't exist and decided to build it herself. In this episode, Elysia sits down with Nathan Bush to break down how she created a feeding category from scratch. We get into why she built the brand before she had a product, why she handed prototypes to high-profile mums instead of waiting for perfection, and the wild story of answering a copycat competitor by borrowing Adrian Portelli's jet for a Black Friday film. Elysia is refreshingly direct about the numbers, why she stopped chasing top-line revenue on Meta and moved into Baby Bunting, why she runs her own ad account, and why she'll never hand customer service to AI. Plus building a brand while raising three kids, and launching the Go-Box while she was in labour.Brands and tools mentioned: Mekė Baby, Baby Bunting, The Memo, Australia Post, Shopify, Meta, TikTok, ClaudeThis episode is brought to you with thanks to our partners:

2 - ACP statement on Australia Post by Australian Citizens Party
Jeremy Cordeaux is back in the garage with Pete and Gary, and he's found the government some money. From next April, he explains, 3.2 million Australians over 65 will lose the private health insurance rebate that keeps them out of the public system — a saving of $7.9 billion the government says it simply can't do without. Jeremy begs to differ, and reads Health Minister Mark Butler a list: $23.4 billion for electric-car subsidies, $100 million for a failed Bureau of Meteorology website, $65 million for journalists at billion-dollar media companies, half a billion for a Papua New Guinea rugby league team, $4.2 million for a South Pacific resort stopover for COP delegates. Priorities, Minister. He also takes on the mass citizenship ceremonies in Tony Burke's south-western Sydney — and the four flags new Australians were presented with — asking what picture of national identity that paints. Plus new Victorian Premier Ben Carroll's claim that "integrity will not be optional" (and why Jeremy says he talked himself into a corner), the belated royal commission into the CFMEU, Australia Post pushing a letter toward two dollars, and a run of gloriously useless inventions — the pet rock, diet water, the DVD rewinder. And this day in history: the World Wide Web, Hiroshima, Big Ben, and the world's oldest tree, accidentally cut down.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of Building Doors, host Lauren Karan sits down with Daryl Sadgrove, a leader who has worked across healthcare, telecommunications, e-commerce, logistics, education, and professional services before joining Struber, a business focused on unlocking human potential in infrastructure. Daryl brings a rare cross sector lens to one of the industry's most stubborn challenges: flatlining productivity. From his time at Telstra under David Thodey through to his current role as CEO of Struber, Daryl reveals what actually creates momentum in large organizations. He challenges the belief that AI is a magic bullet, warning that accelerating an inefficient model only makes things worse, faster.Daryl also shares a powerful sliding doors moment from his time at Australia Post during COVID, when a reactive fear based decision could have led to mass layoffs, but curiosity and analysis unlocked 20% year on year growth. He makes the case that infrastructure's real constraints aren't technical, they are human. And he explains why leaders must supercharge their people with AI, not replace them.Tune in for a thought provoking conversation on productivity, legacy, and the future of infrastructure leadership. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Building Momentum in Large Organizations:How strategic clarity from the top creates a “tsunami” of alignmentWhy leaders need to repeat strategy until they are sick of it, at least seven times via different channelsThe power of hyper effective meetings: narrow focus, clear outcomes, and the right people onlyThe Productivity Paradox in Infrastructure:Why infrastructure productivity is 2% below 1990 levels despite the internet, mobile phones, and AIHow communication, collaboration, and culture are the three biggest constraints, according to Infrastructure AustraliaThe danger of treating “soft skills” as a nice to have when they unlock millions in ROIAI as a Leadership Opportunity, Not a Shortcut: Why AI can make bad systems, bad data, and bad culture worse, fasterThe difference between using AI to replace people versus supercharging themA real life case study: a new hire in her second week building an AI powered infrastructure project pipeline that blew Daryl's mindThe Sliding Doors Moment at Australia Post During COVID: How fear nearly led to 10,000 layoffs and why pausing to question assumptions changed everythingThe power of internal research, curiosity, and reframing risk as opportunityWhy the “best case scenario” of 50% growth became reality, not the worst caseAI, Human Connection, and the Future of Work: Why humans will still deliver infrastructure for decades (10,000 people on a job site is not going away)How to use AI to accelerate your own voice, not replace itThe two business models: cut staff and gain 50% productivity OR supercharge everyone and gain 300%Legacy, Leadership, and Being Present: Why Daryl's legacy is translating solutions across industry silosThe importance of being truly home when you are home, with family, not just in bodyKey Quotes from Daryl Sadgrove:“Communication, collaboration, and culture are the biggest constraints holding projects back.”“You don't need everyone on the bus. You need critical mass.”“If you're not sick of repeating the strategy, you probably haven't communicated it enough.”“AI can make bad systems worse faster.”“The businesses that win with AI will be the ones that supercharge people, not replace them.”“People are craving human connection more than ever.”“Leadership clarity matters exponentially more in the AI era.”“The future belongs to organizations that unlock human potential.”“Infrastructure productivity is still sitting below where it was in 1990.”About Our Guest:Daryl Sadgrove is a leader who has worked across healthcare, telecommunications (Telstra), e-commerce, logistics, education, and professional services before joining Struber, a business focused on unlocking the human constraints in infrastructure. He has seen what works in high performing organizations and what does not. A former GM of Innovation at Telstra, a musician, and a golfer in training, Daryl brings cross-sector wisdom, strategic clarity, and a deep belief that people, not technology, are the real accelerators.About Your Host:Lauren Karan, founder of Karan & Co. and host of Building Doors, is dedicated to helping professionals unlock their potential. Send us a voicemail to mark Let Me Sum Up's upcoming 100th Episode! Your friendly neighbourhood climate and energy podcast of record is about to clock up its 100th episode! Global VP for Marketing and Extortion kindly requests Summeruppers to send us a voicemail with your questions for LMSU's intrepid hosts or favourite anecdotes from listening to the pod. All contributions welcome! — In Episode XII of Global Energy Crisis Corner the current fuel crisis might have slipped off the radar of everyday Australians because, well, it's all been Very Much Under Control And Nothing To See Here Except Higher Than Pre-Crisis Domestic Fuel Reserves. That doesn't stop your tired, but resilient-in-our-nerdery intrepid hosts from another serving of what-is-actually-going-on-out-there chat! The latest IEA Oil Market Report makes it clear things are still VERY BAD but the impacts have been softened by countries drawing down on their domestic reserves - particularly China. But how much longer can this last? And how is this being experienced outside rich countries like Australia that can afford to pay extra to bolster imports? This article in the Economist does a good job outlining the impacts across Asia. Buckle up for Episode XIII folks. Our main course Your intrepid hosts dive out of the fire and into the frying pan to dissect ‘Power Flexible AI Factories: A UK-First Demonsration of Grid-Responsive AI Infrastructure', a paper from Chris Williams et al and supported by Emerald AI, Electric Power Research Institute, the UK's National Grid and Nebius. So what does BIG AI think the solution is to managing the growth of power-hungry data centres across the globe? Unsurprisingly this paper is optimistic on the potential for data centres to operate in practice as a form of demand response, to smooth peak demand around significant events (tea kettle breaks for UEFA matches, anyone?) and reduce power consumption by up to 40%. The trial documented in the paper provides some real cause for optimism and throws out some suggestions for reform, but bigger trials and key questions - like who pays for the flex? And how about that water consumption? - still need grappling with. One more things Tennant's One More Thing is: a techno-optimist double delight! CATL deal for 60 GWh sodium-ion batteries for grid storage shows sodium is here and lithium constraints aren't going to be a problem AND Fervo IPO - geothermal startup raises US$1.89b and market values it at $10b+ - they will have the money to get their first 500MW plant up and running this year (Cape Station, Utah). Frankie's One More Thing is: a sneaky peak into LMSU's post Budget analysis to alert folks to a tantalising reference to the Government's work on a ‘market measure' to drive demand for new Australian LCLF production (page 12 of BP1 to be precise). Watch this space! Luke's One More Thing is: some electrification optimism percolating around the country - from the $40m funding in the Budget to help electrify Australia Post's operations to Incat in Tasmania taking their ferries all electric! LMSU also heartily commends to Summerupperers the book ‘Power, Prosperity and Planet: Climate and Energy Policy For All' from friend of the pod, Thom Woodroofe! And that's it for now, Summerupperers. There is now a one-stop-shop for all your LMSU needs: head to letmesumup.net to support us on Patreon, procure merch, find back episodes, and leave us a voicemail!

Most e-commerce founders see the fuel crisis in the news and think it's someone else's problem. But if you're shipping products right now, it's already showing up in your bills — and if you're still running last year's shipping model, you're bleeding margin without realising it. Here's the problem: this isn't one cost squeeze. It's three hitting at the same time — carrier rate hikes, fuel surcharges, and geopolitical disruption — and the effective rate increase for most e-com brands right now is sitting between 8 and 12%. In this episode, I walk you through the four moves I'd make right now to protect your margins, from rebuilding your AOV strategy around your new shipping threshold to the packaging audit most founders never think to run. Here's what you'll take away: The actual numbers: what USPS, UPS, FedEx, Amazon, and Australia Post surcharges mean for your cost per order right now How to use the threshold gap strategy to raise your free shipping threshold without killing conversion Why product bundling done right can lift AOV by 30 to 70% — and the real-world example of how a sleep tape brand is doing it with digital add-ons When to seriously consider switching to a 3PL — and the volume crossover point that makes it a no-brainer The dim weight formula and why most brands are literally paying to ship air Why nearly 50% of cart abandonment comes down to surprise shipping costs — and how radical transparency fixes it If you're absorbing these cost increases without a plan, this episode will show you exactly where to start — and how the brands that come out ahead during downturns are already thinking about this differently. Everyone in Australian retail right now is having one of two conversations: "it's quiet" or "what sale should we run next?" Our clients are having neither. They're up year-on-year. They're not discounting heavily. And they're not throwing more ad spend at the problem. In this episode, Catherine Langman unpacks exactly what the premium brands quietly winning in 2026 are doing differently – and why the Australian economy isn't what's killing premium brands. The middle-ground mimicry is. Drawing on fresh 2026 data from NAB, Australia Post, Deloitte, emarketer, and Shopify – plus one anonymised case study of a retailer client up 32% year-on-year without a single flash sale – Catherine makes both the commercial and the emotional case for holding the line when the whole market is running the opposite direction. In this episode: Why the middle ground is the most dangerous position in Australian eCommerce right now What the data says about premium buyers in a downturn (counterintuitive, and important) The anonymised case study: a retailer up 32% YoY while her competitors spiral Why tactical foundations without storytelling don't convert the customer you actually want The four foundational layers the winning brands are investing in instead The emotional cost of holding the line – and permission to feel it If you're tired of being told "just run another sale," this one's for you. AUS POST 2026 ECOMMERCE REPORT - DOWNLOAD HEREFREE SEO AUDIT HEREAustralian eCommerce is entering a new era, and standing still is no longer an option. In this episode, Ryan Martin sits down with Jordan Berke, CEO and founder of global retail strategy firm Tomorrow, to unpack the biggest takeaways from the upcoming Australia Post eCommerce Report 2026.Jordan explains why Australia is no longer “catching up” in eCommerce. It is becoming one of the most competitive and fast-moving retail markets in the world. With marketplaces accelerating, delivery expectations rising, AI changing product discovery, and shoppers becoming more willing to switch brands, Australian retailers are facing a make-or-break moment. They dig into what's driving the reported $86.2 billion in Australian eCommerce spend, why faster delivery is directly tied to conversion, how agentic AI is changing SEO and shopping behaviour, and what brands must do now to compete with Amazon, Temu, Shein, and the world's best digital experiences. This is a must-listen for eCommerce founders, marketers, retailers, and brands that want to stay relevant in 2026 and beyond. Why Australia is reaching a major eCommerce inflection pointHow marketplaces are reshaping the retail landscapeWhy delivery speed has become one of the biggest conversion leversWhat “shopper promiscuity” means and why it matters for retentionHow customer expectations are changing faster than most brands realiseWhat agentic AI means for product discovery and online shoppingWhy traditional SEO alone is no longer enoughHow contextual product content improves discoverability in AI searchWhy smaller brands must double down on differentiationWhat Australian retailers can learn from China, the US, and global leaders1. Australia is moving from behind to aheadJordan shares that Australia's eCommerce penetration has now caught up with major global markets and is on track to move ahead, making this one of the most important periods for local retailers to adapt and invest.2. Delivery speed is no longer a nice-to-haveThe conversation highlights how every extra day in delivery time can materially reduce conversion rates. Faster fulfillment, smarter inventory placement, and stronger logistics partnerships are becoming essential.3. Shoppers are less loyal and more willing to switchAustralian households are buying from more brands than ever before. That creates more opportunity, but also more pressure for retailers to win every experience.4. AI is changing how products get discoveredThe future of discoverability is moving beyond keywords and attributes. Retailers need richer, more contextual product content that helps AI tools understand when, why, and for whom a product is relevant.5. World-class user experience is now the baselineAustralian retailers are no longer competing in isolation. They are competing against the best digital experiences in the world, and mediocre checkout, delivery, and navigation experiences will cost them.Australia's eCommerce market is becoming one of the most dynamic globallyFaster delivery is driving meaningful conversion gainsAI-driven shopping traffic is rising fast and could become material very quicklyChatGPT may influence shopping, but it may not fully replace retailersSmaller brands still have room to win if they differentiate clearlyClick-and-collect and parcel lockers are still major opportunities for improving convenience and conversion“You are no longer competing in your own market. You are competing with the world's best.”“Cheap is easy. Differentiation is the real game.”“Traditional SEO is still important, but context is becoming the new competitive advantage.”“Mediocre eCommerce experiences are not going to survive in Australia anymore.”

What if the key to creating cleaner, faster, and more efficient cities isn't building new infrastructure, but rethinking how we move what we already have? In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I'm joined by Richard Savoie, co-founder of Adiona, whose AI-powered logistics platform is transforming how goods travel through urban environments. Richard's background as a patent-holding engineer and mentor in the medical device field gives him a unique perspective on precision, quality, and human-centered design. At Adiona, he applies that same discipline to logistics, helping delivery networks run smarter, leaner, and more sustainably. His FlexOps platform uses AI to optimise routes, model EV fleet conversions, and create digital twins of operations so companies can reduce emissions and increase efficiency—without replacing the people who make it all work. In our conversation, Richard shares why he believes in a humanistic approach to AI that empowers drivers, dispatchers, and warehouse workers instead of automating them out of existence. We also explore how Adiona's scenario modelling helps global brands like Coca-Cola and Australia Post cut costs while meeting 2030 sustainability goals, and what the future might hold as AI and robotics begin to converge for last-meter delivery. So, could the next big sustainability breakthrough come from reimagining the routes that already exist? And how might AI reshape the logistics networks that keep our world moving? I'd love to hear your thoughts after listening.
