Bridget Phetasy watched the Oscars so you didn't have to. From the "open borders" jokes to the blatant political snubs in the "In Memoriam" segment, Bridget breaks down why Hollywood remains a fortress of elitism that actively dislikes its own audience. Are the Oscars a celebration of film, or just a high-budget campaign rally for the people who want you at Dave & Buster's?#TheOscars #Hollywood #ConanObrien #MediaBias #DumpsterFire Topics covered: Why the Oscars are depressing, the Brigitte Bardot "In Memoriam" snub, why Hollywood hates its audience, the Dave & Buster's metaphor, and the "Gen X Auntie" guide to award shows.
James Bastone awakes from retirement to discuss the 98th academy awards with resident cohost Matt Gaetano and super fan Ethan Cushman. No James Van der Beek, Eric Dane, or Brigitte Bardot, inexcusable for in memoriam
In the late 1960s, Serge Gainsbourg carried out an illicit affair with Brigitte Bardot, not only the world's preeminent sex symbol at the time, but a sex symbol with a powerful millionaire for a husband. Her love inspired Serge to a creative breakthrough, transforming French pop music and the music of the world while their passionate fling was busy barreling toward a doomed ending - an ending as doomed and as shocking as the end of the two outlaws they modeled their romance and their music on.

This week Alicia gets to the bottom of the basket in this episode about Jane Birkin, English actress, singer, and designer - also, namesake of the very famous Birkin Bag. Jane's story is truly incredible, and is the stickiest spiderweb from our Brigitte Bardot arc that we had to explore. Jane will have a long term love affair with Serge Gainsborough once Brigitte dumps him, but that is only one part of her incredible story.

In her later years, French actress and icon Brigitte Bardot devoted her considerable talents to the protection of animals all over the planet. In the 1980s, having retired from film, she created the Brigitte Bardot Foundation dedicated to animal welfare, and used her substantial platform to contact governments and heads of state with letters decrying their nation's treatment of animals. But her attitudes about people became far less generous as she aged. Her fourth and last marriage was to a far-right politician, and she was repeatedly fined by French courts for inciting racial hatred. To be honest, she had a lot of bees in her bonnet by the time she died on December 28, 2025, and she leaves a genuinely complicated legacy behind.Want early, ad-free episodes, regular Dumpster Dives, bonus divorces, limited series, Zoom hangouts, and more? As Brigitte made her way into the 1960s as a bona fide, worldwide celebrity, she found the experience was not especially to her liking. Where she had once strolled the streets of her beloved Saint-Tropez barefoot and happy, by the time she found herself pregnant and married for a second time, an army of photographers assembled outside of her home made her little more than a prisoner in her own life. In the final days of the no-good, very-bad year of 2025, the world learned that the iconic French actress Brigitte Bardot had died at the age of 91. Having achieved international stardom back in 1957 in the film And God Created Woman - a collab with her first husband, director Roger Vadim - she became a significant cultural export from France in an era where the rules that seemed to govern the conduct of ordinary people were increasingly being questioned and cast aside.
