Education On Fire - Sharing creative and inspiring learning in our schools
Douglas Robbins is a passionate writer and author, he discovered the power of words at a young age. Fuelled by a deep connection to language, he dedicated himself to writing and has authored five captivating books. Douglas also has a podcast for seekers looking to improve themselves and the world. The discussion between Mark Taylor and Douglas Robbins tackles the essential question of what education should truly encompass in the 21st century.Douglas shares his conviction that traditional education systems often fail to address the emotional and psychological needs of students, leaving them ill-prepared for adulthood. He articulates a vision of education that fosters individualism and creativity, suggesting that schools should serve as environments where children can explore their identities and passions. Through personal anecdotes, Robbins illustrates how emotional intelligence plays a crucial role in one's ability to succeed in life, stressing that a well-rounded education must include lessons on handling emotions, relationships, and personal finances. By highlighting the disconnect between educational practices and the real-world skills needed for success, Robbins challenges listeners to rethink their views on what constitutes valuable knowledge and encourages a more compassionate and comprehensive approach to teaching.Takeaways: Education should focus on emotional intelligence and personal growth, not just academic skills. Children often struggle with navigating emotions, and schools should teach emotional awareness skills. Individuality in education is crucial; each child has unique strengths and interests. The importance of connecting with one's authentic self is key to personal development. Creativity in education is essential for solving complex problems in today's world. Finding a supportive community helps individuals thrive and express their true selves. If you've been following the show this season, you know that we've been focusing more on specific topics and having conversations around very distinct issues. However, this episode is a little different. Today's show has no specific topic, and no agenda. This time, the show is just a conversation with someone Ettore personally finds extraordinarily charming and engaging.Douglas Robbins is a writer with a slew of novels under his belt and the host of the popular Den of Discussion podcast. In this wide-ranging discussion, Ettore and Doug touch on the search for finding truth through art, metaphysics and the supernatural, and—most importantly—the significance of men's work in helping men heal themselves and world around them. We think you'll find Doug to be charming and engaging, too, and we hope you'll enjoy this fun and candid conversation. So let's get on the road!About Douglas RobbinsDouglas Robbins began his writing career at a young age when one of his teachers asked the class to write a poem. In that moment he found a power in words that he never had found anywhere else. According to Doug, “As time passed, I started to write more seriously because it was the only profession that ever made sense. It wasn't so much a career move; it was a move out of necessity.”Doug grew up, attended college, then joined the workforce but continued to write in his spare time. Frustrated with one dead-end job after another, he finally decided to take his chances with the only profession that ever made sense. He explains, “I left my thankless corporate job after years of waking up sick and dreading each day. Though I had little money in the bank, I decided right then if I were going to live or die, it would be by the pen.”Doug lives near the Catskill Mountains with his wife and family. I'm solo-casting today on this super important topic. At a young age we are taught to want what everyone else wants. This is where comparison begins of what they have compared to what we don't. We are taught to want materials and external things and not what are souls need. There's always someone who will have what you want: looks, money, cars, hair, physique. This makes us feel small and powerless. This is us looking out the window. No one taught us to look in the mirror and at our souls. No one has what our souls have. This is why we need to look in the mirror. What we find there is what needs to be honored. We are not supposed to move forward only if people approve of us. We move forward honoring what's within us and approving of ourselves. Are you looking in the mirror? Are you looking into your soul and really being honest with yourself? Did you do the most you could today to move yourself toward your dreams?Take a listen. Support the show

Can writing help one heal? What exactly is success in life today? What do interconnectedness and love mean in today's time? These are some of the questions of the several I put to Douglas Robbins - writer, thinker, and seeker in this latest edition of The KAJ Masterclass LIVE. And we also discussed his books Love in a Dying Town and Narican: The Cloaked Deception. And much more. This week “Glass Half Full” Chris Levens welcomes Author Douglas Robbins to the show. Douglas is author of several books including Narican: “The Cloaked Deception”, a science fiction piece about the evolution of souls, and his most recent, “Love in a Dying Town” is a story about a single father raising his daughter in a dying factory town, showing her right from wrong, even as the world crumbles around them, even as parts of him do as well. As a writer and individual he seeks deeper truths that are often hidden in plain sight, or swept under society's dirty rug.Support the show (https://paypal.me/cslevens?locale.x=en_US)
