“If there is anything I would like to be remembered for, it is that I helped people understand that leadership is helping other people grow and succeed. To repeat myself, leadership is not just about you. It's about them.” – Jack Welch Check Out These Highlights: A few years ago. I had a client who was trying to build a client journey culture rooted in love, care, and respect to foster relationships that grow to the point where our clients become our best advocates, generating passive new business and revenue results. Great objective. A year in, we were discussing next steps to continue raising the bar and identifying areas where their salespeople needed to grow their communication skills to create a more profitable culture. Sounds great, right? During these discussions, I was informed that the coaching was too challenging and they were going in a different direction. When asked about the new direction, I was told that coaching wasn't part of it because it was considered too complicated and time-consuming. WOW! Needless to say, they are no longer one of my clients, and the leadership team fell short of their original objectives. The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
Have you ever asked yourself: Am I sacrificing too much time with my wife and kids in pursuit of my career or financial goals? What small changes could I make right now to build more connection points and memories with my family? Am I making choices that line up with the kind of legacy and example I want to set for my children? Whether you're a career-driven dad, a business owner, or just trying to do your best for your family, this episode is an honest look at why intentional time, connection, and legacy matter far more than your next paycheck. This week, Larry takes us on a heartfelt journey inspired by his recent 50th birthday, reflecting on the advice he wishes he could have given his younger self during his 30s and 40s. With deep sincerity, he opens up about the “rookie mistakes” he made by spending years grinding in a demanding career—sacrificing precious time with his wife and kids in pursuit of financial success. Drawing from powerful examples, including an emotional moment from Tom Brady reflecting on the cost of greatness, Larry reminds us that while hustling to provide is noble, it often comes at a price that money can't buy back: time, connection, and memories with our loved ones. He shares statistics on how finances often strain marriages, highlights the importance of intentional living, and encourages dads to pause and assess what their hard work might be costing them outside the office. So if you've ever questioned if the grind is worth it, or worried about missing out on what truly matters, this one's for you. Become the best husband you can: https://bit.ly/deamarriageyoutube In this vital conversation, we dig into: The Hidden Price of Success: Working 60, 70, or even 80 hours a week is celebrated by many men. Yet, as Larry reveals, this dedication is often worn as a badge of honor. While providing for a family is noble, the cost can be severe. Countless hours spent at work are hours lost with children, spouses, and friends. Larry's own journey included long weeks on the road and executive-level sacrifices in the medical industry. Despite earning a good living, he found himself disconnected and unfulfilled. The Irreplaceable Asset: Time with Family: Time is the one thing every parent has in equal measure—24 hours each day. Although bank accounts and careers differ, the hours we have with loved ones are finite. Larry highlights this by referencing Tom Brady's emotional reflection on his father. Even with record-breaking success and financial security, Brady admitted to sacrificing precious moments with his children. This lesson resonates with many fathers who struggle to strike a healthy balance. Wealth, Marriage, and the Stress Factor: Finances play a leading role in marital stress. In fact, 37% of divorces are linked primarily to money disagreements. Arguments about spending, saving, and debt are rampant in households. Sometimes, financial infidelity—like secret spending—can quietly erode trust. Moreover, differences in money personalities between spouses can further complicate things. One partner may be a saver while the other prefers to spend, creating ongoing tension. Rethinking the Grind: Society tells us we must stick with what we know, even if it costs us happiness. Larry demonstrates that it's possible to shift careers, learn new skills, and pursue passions. He provides examples of his own path, as well as others who made midlife career changes successfully. There are more ways to generate income today than ever before. From real estate to side hustles, passive revenue is accessible for those willing to be creative and disciplined. Practical Advice for Fathers: Larry urges fathers to pause and consider what the grind is truly costing them. Is it worth missing key moments with your children? Instead of only focusing on earning, he recommends open communication with your spouse. Aligning financial goals can ease the burden and reduce the need for endless overtime. Fathers don't have to choose between security and connection. With intention, you can build both. This episode is packed with raw, practical wisdom on finding balance, embracing new opportunities, and living with intentionality. Here's what research and observation highlight about financial issues in relationships: Almost 3 out of 10 couples are secretly spending money that the other person doesn't know about. Money fights show up in nearly 40 to 50% of all marital arguments. 27% of couples or partners admit to secretly spending, and 10% say it will lead directly to divorce thedadedge.com/friday517 thedadedge.com/mastermind Brady on Family vs football

In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty is joined by Jason Saltzman—entrepreneur, MIT REAP co-chair, global mentor, and founder of Relief. Rather than diving into his exits or startup strategies, Jason unpacks the power of the first hour of your day. He shares how small, intentional morning habits—like making your bed or walking your dog mindfully—can radically reshape your mindset, enhance productivity, and help you thrive amidst chaos. This conversation is a masterclass on grounding, presence, and the link between routine and resilience. If you're feeling overwhelmed, this episode will offer practical insights to regain control and move with purpose. About the Guest:Jason Saltzman is a seasoned entrepreneur with two successful exits, co-chair of MIT's REAP program, and a mentor for founders at Techstars and beyond. He blends hard-earned entrepreneurial experience with mindfulness, advocating for the power of small habits in managing anxiety, building resilience, and staying intentional in high-pressure environments. Key Takeaways: Mornings are your greatest opportunity to reset and reclaim focus. Mental clarity begins with micro-habits—like making your bed with presence. True resilience is built before adversity hits, through consistent intention-setting. Writing down goals, expressing gratitude, and grounding yourself daily creates mental armor. Success isn't about escaping chaos—it's about preparing for it. Send us a textAfter years of chasing external definitions of success, I've completely transformed the Successful Life Podcast to focus on what truly matters: recovery from addiction, freedom from limiting habits, and authentic personal growth. This isn't about how much we can achieve or how much money we make—it's about waking up clear-headed, staying emotionally regulated, and building a life of integrity. My own journey has been marked by struggles with addiction, wearing different masks for different people, and pretending everything was fine when it wasn't. Though I quit drinking nearly 16 years ago, I switched to cannabis until March 2023. Today, two years fully sober, I've discovered practices that genuinely move the needle in my life: rising at 3:45 am when my brain functions optimally, daily gym sessions, ice baths that reset my nervous system, and a carnivore diet that's dramatically improved my mental clarity and physical health. The carnivore approach—eating only meat, eggs, and cheese—has transformed my energy, eliminated my need for ADHD medication, and helped me shed 12 pounds to reach 8% body fat. But the physical benefits pale compared to the mental clarity and emotional stability I've gained. When combined with recovery principles and consistent self-discipline, this lifestyle has allowed me to show up authentically for myself, my family, and my team at work.If you're struggling with addiction, poor habits, or feeling lost, know that transformation is possible. As they say in recovery, "You don't walk ten miles into the woods and get out in two"—healing takes time, but it begins with a single step today. Join me weekly as we explore what truly creates a successful life with upcoming guests including bodybuilder Tony Freeman and Jared the Plumber. Welcome to episode 212 where we talk about 'Making Sense of Mind Chatter'. Ever feel like your brain just won't stop talking? That constant swirl of thoughts—whether it's fear, doubt, self-criticism, or overwhelm—is what I like to call mind chatter. In this episode, I break down that chatter into three distinct voices: the sleepy sloth, the yappy dog, and the wise owl. Each one has something to say—and believe it or not, they all matter. Together, we explore how to identify which voice is speaking up in your mind, how each one feels, and how to respond with more clarity and confidence. You'll learn that none of these thoughts make you broken or weak—it just means you're human. And by recognizing these voices instead of reacting to them, you gain more emotional maturity, more peace, and more power to create the mission and life you truly want. Whether you're preparing to serve, currently on your mission, adjusting to post-mission life, or supporting someone who is, this episode will help you understand your brain better—and maybe even befriend that noisy mind of yours. As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty sits down with author and podcast host Douglas Robbins to explore how mental health directly influences our ability to make clear decisions. From childhood programming and emotional reactivity to spiritual practices and self-honor, Douglas offers grounded wisdom on moving beyond fear and rewriting our internal narratives. Whether you're navigating big life choices or struggling with everyday self-doubt, this conversation challenges the myth that mental wellness is optional—and makes the case that it's the foundation for living fully. About the Guest:Douglas Robbins is the author of deeply reflective books like Narikan: The Cloaked Deception, Love in a Dying Town, and Baseball Dreams and the Bikers, each probing the complexities of identity, resilience, and legacy. As host of The Douglas Robbins Show, he brings raw and honest discussions about personal growth, spirituality, and societal issues to life. His work centers on helping others connect with truth, act with intention, and live with deeper self-awareness. Key Takeaways: Emotional reactivity often stems from unexamined childhood patterns and fear-driven narratives. True decision-making starts by honoring the present moment—not reacting from the past. Legacy is not wealth; it's the integrity and example you leave behind. Journaling, meditation, and limiting media noise can help sharpen self-awareness. Emotional wellness isn't a luxury—it's the compass for every meaningful action. The constant buzz of notifications has become the soundtrack to our lives. That little device in your pocket connects you to everything and everyone—except perhaps what's directly in front of you. For motorcyclists, this digital tether creates an ironic disconnect from the very experience we seek.Remember when communication required intention? When a pager meant someone truly needed to reach you, and finding a payphone was part of the adventure? Today's always-on culture has its conveniences, but while riding, your attention is your most precious resource. The dance between rider, machine, and landscape demands complete presence—something increasingly rare in our notification-saturated world. The magic happens when you deliberately unplug. Tucked away in my saddlebag, silenced and forgotten, my phone no longer competes for attention with the journey itself. What emerges is nothing short of transformative: heightened awareness of sunlight filtering through trees, the changing colors of passing fields, the rich tapestry of scents from pine forests to approaching rain. The soundtrack shifts from notification pings to the harmonious blend of engine hum, rushing wind, and nature's chorus.Beyond these sensory delights lies something even more valuable—a mental settling, a focused calm that comes when your mind isn't pulled in countless digital directions. This state of flow becomes a moving meditation, a genuine antidote to modern stress. The ride transforms from mere transportation to a profound reconnection with life itself.I challenge you to try it on your next ride. Leave your phone out of reach. The initial discomfort of disconnection quickly gives way to something richer and more satisfying—a journey experienced fully, with all your senses engaged. Because motorcycling isn't just about covering miles; it's about being fully present for every one of them. Sometimes the simplest step—unplugging—opens the door to the biggest adventures.
