Sad face for some of us. Some people are all fall and have been waiting for Halloween to begin. Since I have an awesome food blogger on today, I decided that we should kick off this episode with food talk even though she's not really here to talk food. So for your hello, welcome, post in the comments, what end-of-summer produce are you making the most of while it still lasts? Or are you canning? Tell us in the comments what late summer goodies your loving. Gifts, emojis, recipe links, whatever butters your bread with late summer produce, drop it in there, and that's what we're talking about today. And while you are spamming us with comments I wanted to let you know that this episode is brought to you by BigScoots. BigScoots offers completely hands on managed WordPress hosting purpose built with WordPress in mind to deliver industry leading performance and reliability. We're going to share that in the comments for you. We are so glad to have BigScoots. They're so fun. Oh, yay. And we're already getting wonderful comments from people what they're doing with their late summer produce. We've got white nectarines. Yeah, Carol Bryant. Good call. Tomato cucumber salad. Yep. Canning salsa, diced tomatoes, pasta sauce, and pickled okra, Rachel. You're putting us all to shame. OK. I will go. I will go back to the food in a minute. But for the topic at hand, as I already mentioned, my guest is a pretty big deal in the blogging world. And for her specific food focus she really emphasizes saving home cooks-- their sanity, their money, making their lives easier. And she is here today to do the same for all of our audience websites. Free up your time and your energy so you can focus on the high level and high priority tasks in your business with automations. It's nice to hear a fan of the BiggerPockets Money Show talk about how they are on the path to financial freedom. It's even nicer when we hear that the fan, Melissa Yi, went from a negative net worth to now $100k+ due to some simple tips from Scott and Mindy.Melissa had stints in her childhood where she was facing homelessness, not knowing where her next meal was coming from. She worked hard after high school and ended up at a job that offered to pay for her college education. A year away from graduating, she made the decision to quit, without savings, another job lined up, or a way to pay for school. She took out student loans, auto loans, and sunk into credit card debt.At one point, Melissa looked around and realized she had a lot of stuff. Stuff that wasn't doing anything for her, except for filling up her garage. She sold what she could, started bringing in side income streams, and stopped eating out. These small changes allowed her to slowly pay off her debt and get to a positive net worth. Now, she's at the $100k+ point and slowly coasting her way to financial independence! In This Episode We CoverThe importance of financial education when growing up Taking advantage of company-sponsored tuition reimbursement Why you should never cash out your 401(k) or other retirement accounts Credit card debt and why it's so bad for uninformed consumers Using a live in flip to make a killer profit while paying $0 in taxesSetting up retirement accounts and maxing them out whenever possibleAnd So Much More!Links from the ShowBiggerPockets Money Facebook GroupBiggerPockets ForumsFinance Review Guest OnboardingScott's InstagramMindy's TwitterMelissa's Facebook PostCutting Your Grocery Bill in Half with Erin Chase from $5 Dinners Check the full show notes here: https://www.biggerpockets.com/moneyshow210Privacy Policy and California Privacy Notice.

Erin Chase is a busy mother of 4, a former teacher, and today runs 5DollarDinners.com and the 5dollarmealplan. Back in 2008, after some number crunching, Erin was excited at saving 50% on her grocery bills. She shared how she did this on her family blog, but with a low amount of interest she decided to start her own blog to help others make savings on their own grocery bills. You may have heard the saying, “there's no such thing as a free lunch” – well there is such a thing as free meal plans. Erin carried on publishing free meal plans and tips how to feed your family on a budget and her viewership kept growing. Note: Click here to download Erin's top blog monetization tips from this episode. In this episode, you will hear how Erin capitalized on the momentum of viral social media posts to set up paywalls and start generating more income. You'll learn how she transitioned from ad networks and affiliate income to selling directly to her audience, and how she set up membership programs for recurring revenue.
