Gary & Shannon break down how Mark Zuckerberg’s testimony landed in the courtroom as the Big Tech trial zeroes in on whether social media companies knowingly hooked kids early for long-term profit. They also dig into the backlash over Reese’s allegedly using cheaper ingredients—and Gary revisits the now-outdated “contract” he gave his kids when they got their first phones. Plus, a surprising California poll puts Republican Steve Hilton at the top of the field, while Shannon says the money still points to Eric Swalwell. shrinkflation Shrinkflation Is Robbing You Blind | Episode 590 Good morning. This is James from SurvivalPunk.com. It's 46 degrees. I'm cold. I don't like being cold. But that's not what we're talking about today. Today we're talking about something that affects every single one of us every single week. Shrinkflation. And how companies are quietly screwing you over while pretending nothing changed. Listen now. What Shrinkflation Actually Is Shrinkflation is simple. The bag looks the same. The box looks the same. The price looks the same. But you're getting less. Your “pound” bag of chips? Not a pound anymore.16 ounces becomes 14.5 ounces.Same packaging. Same shelf space. Same mental price anchor. They don't raise the price because people notice price increases. They shrink the product because most people never check the weight. That's the game. Why It Works on Your Brain Everyone has internal price anchors. You know what Coke “should” cost. You know what ground beef “should” cost. You know what eggs “should” cost. When the price jumps too far past that mental number, you hesitate. You buy less. You switch brands. So instead of raising prices aggressively, companies keep the sticker steady and shave ounces off the back end. That's less likely to trigger your brain. And it works. The Worst Offenders Right Now Chips.Soda.Single-serve snacks. The further you get from bulk, the worse the value gets. A 12-pack of Coke creeping toward $9.97? That's insane. Run the unit math. If it's buy 2 get 3 free at Kroger, do the math.Total cost divided by total units. If it comes out to $4 a case? That's closer to reality. Unit price is king. Always. Same with meat. Ground beef has exploded. But sometimes a 50/50 beef-pork blend at Walmart hits that sweet spot. Closer to ingredients = better value.Closer to convenience = you're getting wrecked. Ingredients Beat Snacks Every Time Plain oats? Still solid.Rice? Still dependable.Flour? Still cheap. Bulk ingredients have padding built in. They absorb inflation better. Single-serve cookies? Astronomical. Two cookies can cost almost as much as a full bag. And if you run the math on making them from scratch, the ROI is ridiculous. The closer you move toward bulk, the better your survival position gets. That's not theory. That's math. Group Buys Might Be the Secret Weapon This might be its own episode. But think about this. Shipping kills value. Whether it's supplements, bulk meat, or specialty items. Split that shipping with friends? Now the math changes. Split a primal cut of beef.Split bulk orders.Split shipping costs. Suddenly your unit price drops dramatically. We talk prepping all the time. But cost discipline is prep too. Final Thoughts Shrinkflation is real. They're not just raising prices. They're reducing value. Your defense is simple: Check weight.Check unit price.Buy bulk.Run the math.Split costs when you can. Stop shopping emotionally.Start shopping strategically. That's survival in 2026. This is James from SurvivalPunk.com. DIY to survive. Shrinkflation, that sneaky economic phenomenon where companies quietly reduce the size, quantity, or sometimes even the quality of a product while keeping the retail price the same—or only slightly increasing it—has become a frustrating reality for consumers worldwide, effectively acting as a hidden form of inflation that chips away at purchasing power without the immediate sting of a blatant price hike. Also known as package downsizing, weight-out, or skimpflation in its more extreme forms (where quality suffers too), shrinkflation is essentially a stealthy way for manufacturers to pass on rising production costs to buyers, who often don't notice the change until their favorite bag of chips runs out faster or their toilet paper roll feels noticeably thinner. The term itself is a clever portmanteau of “shrink” and “inflation,” and while the practice dates back centuries, the modern word was popularized in the late 2000s and early 2010s. British economist Pippa Malmgren is widely credited with coining or popularizing “shrinkflation” in its current usage around 2009–2015, describing it as a counterpart to overt price inflation in which the product itself shrinks rather than the dollar stretching further.More PodcastRead the full contentProduced by SimVal Media, USA

Was also tun die Hersteller? In a friendly way. Mostly.
Shrinkflation is not only making our chocolate bars smaller, but our books too! Should you be buying this precious metal this Christmas? Find out what it is today as we reflect on how instant gratification, social media, and shifting consumer behavior mirror broader economic changes. We also talk practical year-end investing discipline, including portfolio "hygiene," investor psychology alignment, rule-based decision making, and tax-loss harvesting strategies. We explore assesing holdings as if investing fresh today, managing oversized winners and stagnant losers, watching natural market turning points around year-end, while also exploring inflation trends, shrinkflation, housing affordability, and generational cost pressures. We also urge listeners to use the final weeks of the year to review risks, taxes, family financial clarity, and opportunities ahead. Thoughtful preparation, not momentum or emotion, drives long-term investment success. We discuss... The importance of year-end portfolio assessment, emphasizing reviewing holdings as if investing fresh today to determine alignment with investor psychology. Manage oversized winners, stagnant losers, and follow disciplined, rule-based investment practices rather than ego-driven decisions. Tax-loss harvesting is a key strategy, including the special advantage that crypto is treated as property and not subject to the 30-day wash-sale rule. Monitoring natural market turning points, particularly around year-end, to identify potential buying opportunities in beaten-down assets. Gold's leadership in the rally, silver's sharp recent gains, and the implications of JP Morgan shifting from short to long silver positions. Basel III banking regulations and the possibility of global banks increasing gold holdings if U.S. deficits rise above projected thresholds. Strategies for buying gold and silver, emphasizing buying for weight to minimize premiums and potentially profiting from historical spreads in coin pricing. Have caution with rare coin premiums, only experienced investors should consider numismatic factors, otherwise stick to weight-based purchases. Inflation indicators, using Campbell's Soup can pricing as a proxy for quality-adjusted inflation over decades. Shrinkflation and the rising cost of essentials for younger generations, noting housing, insurance, and other expenses have outpaced wages. Recent trends in housing, including declining new home prices but smaller home sizes, illustrating hidden inflation and cost pressures. In this episode of Grow Think Tank, I unpack the critical shifts CEOs must anticipate as we approach 2026, with a sharp focus on clarity in leadership and organizational expectations. I share five key predictions shaping the business landscape: sustained recession-like consumer behavior, the necessity of intentional pricing strategies amid shrinkflation, a growing premium on predictability over aggressive growth, the importance of empowering leaders to eliminate decision bottlenecks, and the need to cultivate a culture rooted in trust and accountability. I also offer a pragmatic perspective on AI adoption, encouraging leaders to integrate it strategically in the service of clear business objectives rather than chasing hype. The episode concludes with practical reflection points to help leaders recalibrate their approach and drive sustainable growth in an increasingly complex environment. Episode Highlights & Time Stamps 2:14 Recession-like Behavior Persists 4:33 Pricing Increases and Shrinkflation 7:01 Predictability Over Aggressive Growth 9:13 CEO Bottleneck as a Growth Killer 14:18 Culture as a Performance System 17:56 The Good, Bad, and Ugly of AI Leadership Clarity in a Shifting Business Landscape As we approach 2026, clarity in leadership and organizational expectations will become a defining advantage for CEOs. Drawing from years of conversations with founders and executives of high-growth companies, this episode explores how even minor misalignments in leadership expectations can create outsized organizational challenges. Leaders who take ownership of clearly articulating expectations—and ensuring those expectations truly land with their teams gain leverage, alignment, and momentum. This section sets the foundation for why clarity is no longer optional, but essential for navigating increasing complexity. Five Predictions Every CEO Must Prepare For The core of the episode centers on five predictions shaping the future of business: Persistent Recession-Like Behavior: Regardless of economic labels, consumer caution is here to stay. Buying decisions are more deliberate, value-driven, and less impulsive. CEOs are encouraged to simplify offerings, build predictability, and reflect on how their organizations respond to shifting customer behavior. Intentional Pricing in the Age of Shrinkflation: As prices rise and value perceptions tighten, leaders must price with clarity and intention. Communicating value effectively builds trust and reduces friction in increasingly price-sensitive markets. Predictability Over Aggressive Growth: Stability, consistency, and dependable revenue streams will outperform volatility. CEOs are prompted to examine scalability, operational design, and whether their structures support sustainable performance. Eliminating the CEO Bottleneck: Over-centralized decision-making slows organizations down. This segment challenges leaders to identify where delegation, empowerment, and shared leadership can accelerate growth. Redefining Culture Beyond Perks: High-performing cultures are built on trust, accountability, and clear expectations not superficial benefits. Leaders are guided to redesign roles around outcomes and uphold performance standards that drive engagement. AI, Alignment, and Leading Into 2026 The episode concludes with a pragmatic look at artificial intelligence as both an opportunity and a risk. While AI can unlock efficiency and scale, rushed adoption without strategic intent often fails to deliver ROI. AI, when approached thoughtfully, becomes a leadership discipline—not just a technology initiative. Throughout this final section, CEOs are given reflection prompts to assess alignment, leadership leverage, and focus. The central takeaway is clear: leading successfully in 2026 will not require more effort, but a sharper focus. By prioritizing clarity, alignment, and empowered leadership, CEOs can drive sustainable growth and confidently navigate an evolving business environment. Key Takeaways Leading in 2026 will not require more effort it will require a shift in focus. By prioritizing clarity, alignment, predictability, and leadership leverage, CEOs can position their organizations for sustainable growth and confidently navigate what lies ahead. SEND ME A TEXT MESSAGE NOWI open this episode by going straight at the new form of shrinkflation sweeping across the country. This is not the quiet trick from years ago. This is bold and shameless and companies do not care if you notice. They dress it up with cute labels and marketing fluff and expect you to treat it like an upgrade. I walk right into this new version and break down exactly how it is being sold to you. From there I move into Donald Trump's sudden offer of a two thousand dollar rebate and I call it exactly what it is. A BRIBE. It comes at a moment when people are stretched thin, frustrated, and fed up, and the timing alone turns it into something far bigger than a simple announcement. The episode then takes a hard turn into Trump's abrupt enthusiasm for releasing Epstein related files after years of silence. The shift is sharp. The tone is different. The sudden push raises real questions about what is happening behind the scenes and why now. When you line up these three stories, the mood across the country becomes impossible to miss. They hit at the same time. They strike the same nerves. They form a pattern that says far more than the headlines on their own. Each topic intensifies the next. The labels on your food. The money waved in front of a struggling public. The sudden shift toward revealing long buried information. Together they create a pressure that people can feel in every direction. You can sense the buildup as the episode moves forward. Every story shapes the next one. Every move changes the tone. Every announcement lands at a moment when people are already running out of patience with the entire system.By the time the pieces fall into place, the larger picture becomes clear. The timing matters. The atmosphere matters. The connection between all three stories is impossible to ignore once you hear how they stack together. This episode brings that full picture into focus. It hits the pressure points. It calls out the patterns. It breaks down the moment as it is unfolding right now with no softening and no filters.I would appreciate your feedback and opinions:WolfPackTalks@gmail.comAWorldGoneMadPodcast@gmail.com
Veronique de Rugy discusses the cost of living, critiquing the administration's claims that Thanksgiving dinner is cheaper, citing the use of shrinkflation and item removal. She criticizes the proposal to send $2,000 checks, noting this Keynesian approach boosts demand, which, without increased supply, risks raising prices further. De Rugy advocates for deregulation and the elimination of tariffs (which she confirms are a tax) as the necessary supply-side solution to the affordability crisis.

E come possiamo riconoscerla? In questo video analizzeremo come funziona la “sgrammatura”, vedremo alcuni esempi di shrinkflation e capiremo come difenderci dal fenomeno di riduzione delle porzioni. Chuck Todd unpacks the escalating chaos around Donald Trump's second term, from his doom-and-gloom rhetoric to the brazen decisions that have left few guardrails in place. Voters may not reject Trump's ideas outright, but his nonstop turbulence—from shaming pregnant women over Tylenol to undermining global allies—has created deep political vulnerabilities. Todd explores how small businesses, foreign policy, and even health guidance have been rattled by Trump's need for instability, while noting that divided government historically forces presidents to govern more broadly. The monologue also turns to Vice President Kamala Harris, whose new book reveals her frustrations with the 2020 ticket and her uneasy positioning for the future, raising tough questions about her political style and prospects. Then, Congressman Chris Deluzio joins Chuck to talk about the political transformation of Western Pennsylvania, the challenges of running as a Democrat in a swing district, and the lessons he's learned since succeeding Conor Lamb. From the hollowing out of factory towns to the rare but pivotal swing voters who decide elections, Deluzio reflects on the realignment that has reshaped the region's politics. He also opens up about how 9/11 led him to serve in the Navy, why he believes American democracy is at risk, and the urgent need for reforms to restore voter trust. The conversation also dives into big debates in Washington: partisan gerrymandering, government shutdown brinkmanship, establishing limits on presidential power, and the dangers of politicizing the military. Deluzio weighs in on rail safety after East Palestine, social media's effect on kids, and congressional corruption—from stock trading to pay structures that keep working-class Americans from serving. Plus, Chuck gets his take on the rising cost of energy, Pittsburgh sports, and whether Democrats can win back voters by focusing squarely on economic issues. Finally, he gives his “ToddCast Top 5” football coaches on the hot-seat and answers listeners' questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment.Got injured in an accident? Finally, he gives his “ToddCast Top 5” football coaches on the hot-seat and answers listeners' questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment.Got injured in an accident? Shrinkflation, worsening toxicity, utility prices, toxic food, with a side of "this is normal, don't question it." Yes, it is finally time to talk about real measures to save yourself first. Next year might be too late. I am not being dramatic. If you can't relate to this yet, just wait. Your turn is coming.

In this episode of The Missing Middle, Sabrina Maddeaux and Mike Moffatt dig into Canada's condo market crash, the rise of “housing shrinkflation,” and what it all means for young Canadians chasing the dream of homeownership. They unpack why falling condo prices aren't actually fixing the housing crisis, how developers and government policies have fueled the problem, and why middle-class buyers are being left behind. If you've been wondering whether Canada is headed for a nation of “forever renters,” this is a conversation you don't want to miss.Chapters00:00 Introduction02:02 The condo market collapse: an overview04:03 The impact of shrinkflation on housing04:54 Ron Butler pop up07:48 Government policies and middle-class homeownership11:56 The future of homeownership in canadaResearch/linksSabrina's Toronto Star column https://www.thestar.com/opinion/contributors/the-condo-crash-wont-fix-our-housing-problem-in-fact-it-just-might-make-it/article_7c44519f-cdbe-4978-b575-ffc1ef9a76bd.htmlNew Condo Sales in GTA Hit 3rd-Highest Level on Record in 2019: Reporthttps://storeys.com/new-condo-sales-gta-2019/Homeownership rate for City of Toronto:https://www12.statcan.gc.ca/census-recensement/2021/as-sa/fogs-spg/alternative.cfm?topic=7&lang=E&dguid=2021A00033520&objectId=7 Toronto condo market is in ‘free fall,' federal housing minister sayshttps://www.thestar.com/real-estate/toronto-condo-market-is-in-free-fall-federal-housing-minister-says/article_66c26722-1f22-4b28-bf95-3e98f2e02159.htmlRon Butler: Condo Crash Meets Housing Crisishttps://youtu.be/9xD5veEsB3U?si=-9A-N2jecO8u63N8Hosts: Sabrina Maddeaux https://x.com/SabrinaMaddeaux Mike Moffatt https://twitter.com/MikePMoffatt https://bsky.app/profile/mikepmoffatt.bsky.socialProducer: Meredith Martin https://twitter.com/meredithmartin @meredithmartin.bsky.socialEditor: Sean Foreman@seanegertonforeman@seanforeman.bsky.socialThis podcast is funded by the Neptis Foundation https://neptis.org/Brought to you by the Missing Middle Initiative https://www.missingmiddleinitiative.ca/Hosted by Mike Moffatt & Cara Stern & Sabrina Maddeaux Produced by Meredith Martin This podcast is funded by the Neptis Foundation and brought to you by the Smart Prosperity Institute.

Lots of ground to cover since we've been away, including the looming bankruptcy of Nate's local YMCA, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement, Trump cracking down on crime and flag burning, gerrymandering, the dumbest controversies of all time starring Cracker Barrel and Sydney Sweeney, shrinkflation, the death of the Epstein files, nailing down the correct pronunciation of "aunt," and much more! Sidenote: Cracker Barrel reversed their decision on the new logo mere hours after we recorded this episode, because that's how it always goes around here.

Chuck Todd examines Trump's disastrous CNBC interview filled with demonstrable lies and errors, questioning whether the president is mentally declining or being fed bad information as he poisons government data and threatens economic stability by claiming false achievements like having the "highest vote total ever in Texas" when he actually ranked just 7th since World War II. He warns that Trump's calls for rigged elections in Texas to maintain power, combined with his corruption of federal statistics, represents a fundamental threat to democracy that even elected Republicans won't support—though the party remains largely silent as Trump advocates for systematic unfairness. The episode also covers emerging political developments including Arnold Schwarzenegger's vow to fight Gavin Newsom over redistricting, Democratic donor Steve Kloobeck launching TV ads in California focused on Trump's Epstein connections after Kamala Harris bows out, and the growing likelihood that Sherrod Brown will mount another Senate run in Ohio despite being positioned as Republicans' top 2028 target. He rounds out the discussion with updates on crowded Democratic primary fields in Iowa, potential presidential ambitions from Hawaii Governor Josh Green, Jerry Demings' Florida political future, and the economic reality of shrinkflation hitting grocery stores as Americans face continued price increases. Then, nuclear weapons historian Greg Mitchell joins Chuck Todd to discuss his documentary "Atomic Bowl" and the largely forgotten story of a football game played in Nagasaki just four months after the atomic bombing, revealing how both American and Japanese governments worked to quickly turn the page on nuclear devastation. Mitchell explores why Nagasaki became the "forgotten city" compared to Hiroshima, despite the horrific targeting of civilian populations rather than military bases, and how the military-ordered football game featuring a Heisman Trophy winner was part of a broader effort to westernize Japan and normalize post-war relations. The conversation delves into the decades-long government cover-up of radiation health effects on American troops, the "downwinders" affected by nuclear testing, and how the true decision-making process behind the bombings remains buried by official narratives that claimed the bombs saved a million American lives. The discussion takes on contemporary urgency as Mitchell warns that nuclear weapons are being made "more useable" while the horror of their effects fades from living memory, with AI now integrated into nuclear protocols and the Trump administration proposing nuclear reactors on the moon. Todd and Mitchell examine how Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" brought renewed attention to nuclear issues, the ongoing radiation monitoring in Japanese cities, and whether there's a modern equivalent to muckraking journalists like Upton Sinclair who could expose nuclear truths today. The episode highlights the critical importance of remembering nuclear history as policymakers consider the role of nuclear power in clean energy transitions while the Pacific Theatre's lessons remain overshadowed by European World War II narratives, making the atomic bombings' anniversaries increasingly forgotten despite their lasting global implications. Finally, he answers listeners' questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment.Timeline:(Timestamps may vary based on advertisements)00:00 Chuck Todd's Introduction02:00 Trump's crazy interview with CNBC was full of errors and lies03:15 Trump is either losing it or is being given bad information04:30 Trump is poisoning government data05:45 Corrupting data can destroy the economy06:15 Trump claims highest vote total ever in Texas… not true07:30 Trump had the 7th highest vote total in Texas just since WW208:45 Trump is calling for an unfair election in Texas to hold power09:45 Illinois is the most gerrymandered Democratic state10:45 Arnold Schwarzenegger vows to fight Newsom over redistricting13:15 Advocating for unfairness is terrible for the democracy14:45 Elected Republicans are not on board with manipulating BLS stats16:00 Steve Kloobeck running TV ads in CA after Harris bows out17:45 Kloobeck's first ad is about Trump & Epstein19:15 Looking likely Sherrod Brown will run for senate in Ohio21:15 If Brown wins he'll be the #1 target for Republicans in 28'23:15 Democrats now have 4 senate candidates in Iowa25:30 Democrats will have a hard time clearing the primary field26:45 Hawaii governor Josh Green might run for president28:00 Jerry Demings might run for governor or senate in Florida30:00 Shrinkflation is showing up at grocery stores as prices rise33:45 Greg Mitchell joins the Chuck ToddCast! 35:30 How Greg ended up on the nuclear weapons beat 37:00 Nagasaki is the "forgotten city" 38:00 Oppenheimer brought nukes back into public consciousness 39:15 The "atomic bowl" was played 4 months after Nagasaki bombing 40:30 The story of the game was swept under the rug 43:00 Why was Nagasaki bombed if Hiroshima "made the point"? 44:45 Why were Hiroshima and Nagasaki chosen for bombing? 46:00 Target wasn't military bases, it was the middle of the cities 47:00 Truman put a stop to use of additional nukes 48:30 Anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is largely forgotten 50:00 U.S. troops sent in after bombing had health problems from radiation 51:30 Government took decades to deal with health fallout for troops 52:45 Oppenheimer brought attention to the "downwinders" of nuke tests 54:00 Both U.S. & Japanese governments wanted to turn page on WW2 56:00 The atomic bowl featured a Heisman trophy winner 57:30 Why was the game played? 58:45 Game was part of an effort to westernize Japan 1:01:15 Game was ordered by military command, not Washington 1:02:15 Participants didn't talk about playing in the game 1:03:45 There's been no feedback on the film from the Pentagon 1:05:15 Horror of nuclear weapons barely exists in living memory 1:07:00 Is there a robust community of historians in Japan for this topic? 1:08:15 Do the Japanese still monitor radiation fallout in these cities? 1:10:15 Justification narrative was saving a million American lives 1:11:30 The Pacific theatre receives far less attention than Europe 1:13:00 Decision making process has been buried by the government 1:14:00 Trump administration wants a nuclear reactor on the moon 1:15:15 The role of nuclear power in clean energy transition 1:16:30 AI is being used in our nuclear weapons protocols, but can't launch 1:17:30 J.
