Episode 38: The Horror Alphabet | A-F This episode was recorded on August 18, 2024 and posted on October 12, 2024. Content Warning: Light vulgarity. Introduction Welcome to No Bodies Episode 38 Introductions to your Ghosts Hosts with the Most - Lonely of Lonely Horror Club and Projectile Varmint aka Suzie Happy Spooky Season from No Bodies! Introductions to our guest - That Horror Teacher aka Mike aka Lonely's blood brother separated at birth Today's Topic: The Horror Alphabet Part One Welcome to the 2nd Annual October Special on No Bodies! The Horror Alphabet - our longest watchlist to date, featuring bests, worsts, and deep cuts from every letter of the alphabet! This will be a blind reaction recording - which means none of the hosts are aware of what the others are bringing to the table. The only notes we will have prepared are the ones for our own recommendations. The Horror Alphabet Rules For films that begin with "The," the film will begin with the first letter of the first word following "The." Example: The Awakening would begin with the letter A. For films with multiple words in the title, the film will begin with the first letter of the first full word. Example: I See The TV Glow would begin with the letter I. For films that begin with a number in the title, the film will begin with the first letter of the first word. Example: 28 Days Later will begin with the letter D. We will not be including any films with titles made up of just numbers, like 1922. In this two-part Cinema Junkie podcast I look to the female perspective in film. In this first part I speak with Heidi Honeycutt, director of programming for Etheria Film Night. Founded in 2014, Etheria Film Night is a showcase of horror, science fiction, fantasy, action, thriller, and dark comedy directed by women and for an audience that includes producers, managers, showrunners, distributors, and genre fans. Etheria says its goal is to put the women directors who want to make genre films and TV in front of the people who want to hire them. Etheria is hosted by American Cinematheque and takes place at its Egyptian Theater.

TOY LEI shares her journey of acting that led her to becoming a filmmaker. Toy was tired of being offered roles as a masseuse or nail technician. She took her career in her own hands by writing, directing and producing action films. TOY LEI has had a fascination with action films ever since her parents took her to Chinatown as a kid. They watched kung-fu movies every Saturday afternoon. After lamenting the lack of roles for Asian females over 30, she began writing, directing and producing her own projects. Her directorial debut, THE WEDDING, won her the Top 5 Women Filmmakers award from the Asian-American Film Lab and New York Women in Film and Television. BOXER, won not only Best Actress, Best Action and the Grand Prize at the 2015 Asian-American Film Lab 72-hr Shootout, but also won Awards of Merit from the highly competitive Accolade Global Competition for Short Film, Women Filmmakers and Leading Actress. It also won the Maverick Movie Award for Special Achievement in Stunts and a nomination from the Connect Film Fest for Best Drama. The film opened its fest run at the coveted Etheria Film Night and won Best Action. She has now expanded BOXER into a feature and has signed on Kristina Reed, a two-time Oscar winner, as Consulting Producer. BOXER was a finalist in the PGA Diversity Program. Her latest short she directed, TRANSITION, won the Jury Runner-up Prize in the Collaboration Filmmaker Contest.

Producer and Etheria Film Night co-founder Stacy Pippi Hammon comes in for a riveting discussion on conventions, cannibalism, and the untapped potential of female filmmakers around the world
One reason I love film festivals is that they celebrate creativity. So I was honored to be asked to judge Etheria Film Night held in early June in Hollywood. Etheria Film Night is the world's most respected showcase of new horror, comedy, science fiction, fantasy, action, and thriller films made by emerging women directors. I was also able to attend, and cover, the red carpet festivities to talk to people about horror and horror movies. The event drew a large crowd with varied interests including films, home haunts, and creepy, corpse-filled magazines (literally!). In this episode are snippets of conversations with people on the red carpet, including the legendary Roger Corman, Stephanie Rothman, Rebecca McKendry, and Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and many other films). Also I talked with some of the directors of the films featured that night, including Tara Price, and the winner of the Jury Prize Bridget Savage Cole. I hope you enjoy the episode and the energy from the Blood-Red Carpet. Thanks for listening. Join the Hellbent for Horror Horde on Patreon!
