On episode 276 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, AW's Editor-In-Chief Erik Anderson, Executive Editor Ryan McQuade and Associate Editor Sophia Ciminello break down the 2025 BAFTA winners and give a preview and their predictions of next week's SAG Awards. A very spread-the-wealth year, BAFTA gave no film more than four wins, including a split Best Film and Best Director, with Conclave claiming the former and Brady Corbet the latter for The Brutalist, the two films to to earn those four BAFTAs. No real surprises in the Leading Actor (Adrien Brody), Supporting Actor (Kieran Culkin) and Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña) races but when Anora won the Casting award early on it was the bellwether for Mikey Madison's 'surprise' win for Leading Actress at the end of the night over Demi Moore (The Substance). A Real Pain's historically significant triumph over Anora in Original Screenplay also set up what will be one of the most competitive Oscar races on March 2 as winner voting ends tomorrow. We jump over to SAG, a conversation that mirrors BAFTA a bit, where we all feel strongly for three frontrunners and each make cases for Madison, Moore and the outside spoiler of a Cynthia Erivo. You can listen to The AwardsWatch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 1h13m. We will be back next week to talk the results of the back-to-back Spirit Awards and SAG Awards and reveal our final Oscar predictions of the season. Till then, let's get into it. Music: “Modern Fashion” from AShamaleuvmusic (intro), “B-3” from BoxCat Games Nameless: The Hackers RPG Soundtrack (outro).

Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened marginally (略微地) down this morning from yesterday's close, at 22,691 on turnover of 5-billion N-T. The market rebounded from Friday's downturn on Monday - gaining almost 400 points on the back of a rally by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing. Analysts say market sentiment improved as investors reacted to gains on Wall Street at the end of last week - where better-than-expected nonfarm payroll data for September indicated that the U-S economy remains resilient. Environmental Groups Pan Recommended Carbon Fee Environmental groups are criticizing the basic carbon fee and preferential rates proposed by the government - calling them "passive" and too low to affect the behavior of big carbon emitters. The criticisim comes after a review committee recommended setting a basic carbon fee rate of 300 N-T per metric ton of carbon emissions. The groups says the basic carbon fees are too low to effectively reduce carbon emissions and companies could see them as an affordable (付得起的) operating expense or pass them on to consumers rather than invest resources to reduce emissions and the fees. NKorea Kim Issues Warning for Nuclear Weapons North Korea says leader Kim Jong Un has warned again that he could use nuclear weapons in potential conflicts with South Korea and the United States. State media today said Kim made such a warning in his speech at a university. Kim said North Korea's nuclear response posture must be fully enhanced because South Korea and the United States are pushing to beef up their military alliance based on joint nuclear and strategic planning, a move that he said would increase (增加) the danger of breaking the balance of power on the Korean Peninsula. Kim has issued similar threats to use nuclear weapons preemptively numerous times, but his latest warning came as outside experts say North Korea could ramp up animosities ahead of next month's U.S. presidential election. This episode celebrates the film CODA, which has been longlisted for seven British Academy Film Awards: for Best Film, Director and Adapted Screenplay, for Leading Actress and Supporting Actor, for Casting, and for Sound. The uplifting comedy-drama follows Ruby (Emilia Jones) a 17-year-old CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), who finds herself torn between pursuing a future at music school and her fear of abandoning her family. First, our host Anna speaks to writer-director of CODA, Siân Heder and the film's leading actress Emilia Jones. The pair discuss the reactions they've had to CODA from the deaf community and Siân recalls some of the challenges she overcame making this film. Emilia also reveals to Anna her experience learning multiple skills for this film, including an American accent and learning ASL in nine months. Next, Anna is joined by two incredible women working to raise awareness for Deaf and disabled audiences. They are Charlotte Little, access consultant and film critic, and Teri Devine, Associate Director for Inclusion at the Royal National Institute for the Deaf. As a CODA herself, Teri discusses the relatability of Ruby's character and highlights some of the accurate details in the film that really stuck with her, including the humour of discussing sex through ASL. Being partially blind and deaf herself, Charlotte discusses the ways in which she relates to the film and analyses the lack of deaf access we see in the film through the Rossi family's experiences. Both Teri and Charlotte then discuss CODA through a feminist lens. An audio transcript of this episode is available to read on the below link or on our Patreon page. On top of discussing the labored journey of this film's release, we talk about watching this movie through a 2021 lens, why it's called Best Performance by a Leading Actress (and how people seem to forget this!) and, of course, the awards landscape of 1992, which included Michelle receiving her third (and to this date, final) Oscar nomination. Hey old friend!! Carrie St Louis is a rockstar AND an classically trained soprano. Carris is best known for her portrayal of ‘Glinda' in the Broadway and national touring company of Wicked, for her portrayal of ‘Sherrie' in the Broadway and Las Vegas companies of Rock of Ages, and as the closing Lauren in the Tony Award winning Best Musical, Kinky Boots. Dan and Carrie go WAAAAY back to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival back in their high school theater glory days. They've been circling each other for over a decade and then they auditioned together for the Anastasia national tour. Dan pooped his pants before he went into the audition room, but that's a story for another time. This was one of our most hilarious interviews. Along with Carrie being an absolute looney tune, she is insightful, introspective, thoughtful, and we loved chatting with her. After graduating from the Thornton School of Music at USC with a degree in Vocal Arts., she went on to play Amanda Bell in the world premiere of Justin Love at LA’s Celebration Theater, which received an LA Drama Critics Circle Nomination for Best Production. She then moved to Las Vegas to open Rock of Ages at The Venetian Hotel, for which she was awarded Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical by Broadway World Las Vegas. Carrie made her Broadway debut as Sherrie in Rock of Ages in 2014. Later that year, she went on the road as Glinda in the national tour of Wicked. In 2016, Carrie returned to Broadway, starring as Glinda at the Gershwin Theater, for which she was nominated for a Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for Best Female Replacement in a long running show. Her sold-out solo cabaret show in LA, Here I Go Again, received a Broadway World nomination for Best Female Cabaret in 2012. Her second solo show, Something Good, played to sold out crowds at New York’s iconic Feinstein’s/54 Below as well as cabaret clubs across the United States. Her third solo show, Always In The Ballpark, Usually In The Wrong Seat, is currently playing at 54 Below. In 2016, Carrie had the honor of performing "For Good" with her Wicked co-star, Jennifer DiNoia, for First Lady Michelle Obama at a United Nations event in New York City. She’s guested in concert with the band Foreigner, and she’s sung the National Anthem for the LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, New York Islanders and the PAC-12 Tournament. In 2017, she starred Off-Broadway as Annette Hargrove in Cruel Intentions: The Musical, based on the cult-classic film, which received an Outer Critics Circle nomination for Best Off-Broadway Musical. In the Spring of 2018, Carrie joined the company of the 2013 Tony winner for Best Musical, Kinky Boots, as Lauren. She was the final Lauren when the show closed in 2019 after six incredible years on Broadway. Carrie has appeared in multiple television shows. She played Becca Mainzer on Elementary (CBS), working alongside Lucy Liu, Jonny Lee Miller, and Jon Michael Hall. She also appeared as Alice on the hit TV show Younger (TVLand) opposite Sutton Foster. This summer, she can be seen on Blindspot (NBC). Carrie just wrapped an indie film titled The Blonde Experiment, which should be released in the coming year. Carrie was set to begin rehearsals for a brand new Off-Broadway show directed by Jeff Calhoun and written by famous author, Jodi Piccoult, called Between The Lines. Set to open at Second Stage Theater this summer, it is currently postponed to Spring 2021 due to Covid-19. Carrie is also a vocal coach who travels often for masterclasses while also maintaining a private studio. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

British performer Emma Kingston was hand-picked by Weber and Rice to play the title role of Evita, and it’s easy to see why. Kingston is clearly a name to watch. Her voice is incredibly powerful and the balcony scene where she sings ‘Don’t cry for me Argentina’ is a guaranteed chill-inducer. And with a role that requires her to be on stage for the majority of the show, her stamina, range and dedication is showcased, along with her unquestionable talent. Laura Bell Bundy steps into the Batter’s Box for Episode 34 of Break a Bat! Laura Bell is as well-rounded performer as there is in the game. Throughout her career, she's seen phenomenal success on stage, on screen, as well as in the recording studio as a singer-songwriter. Her Broadway credits include the Tony-winning Hairspray in which she originated the role of Amber Von Tussle, as well as the musical version of Legally Blonde, in which she originated the role of Elle Woods and earned a Tony nomination of her own for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical. In this episode, the boys dive into Laura Bell's passion for telling stories with music, moving to the other side of the camera as a creative with some exciting new projects in the works, and how the stage is her comfort zone. A big part of her success is attested to constantly changing as a performer, with full recognition of the ability to make adjustments after "every game you play," - and as discussed, one of the ultimate separators between a good and great baseball player. This conversation was super interesting for the Break a Bat! team, as it really dove into the psyche and processes of an All-Star performer as much as any other episode we've done to date. TOY LEI shares her journey of acting that led her to becoming a filmmaker. Toy was tired of being offered roles as a masseuse or nail technician. She took her career in her own hands by writing, directing and producing action films. TOY LEI has had a fascination with action films ever since her parents took her to Chinatown as a kid. They watched kung-fu movies every Saturday afternoon. After lamenting the lack of roles for Asian females over 30, she began writing, directing and producing her own projects. Her directorial debut, THE WEDDING, won her the Top 5 Women Filmmakers award from the Asian-American Film Lab and New York Women in Film and Television. BOXER, won not only Best Actress, Best Action and the Grand Prize at the 2015 Asian-American Film Lab 72-hr Shootout, but also won Awards of Merit from the highly competitive Accolade Global Competition for Short Film, Women Filmmakers and Leading Actress. It also won the Maverick Movie Award for Special Achievement in Stunts and a nomination from the Connect Film Fest for Best Drama. The film opened its fest run at the coveted Etheria Film Night and won Best Action. She has now expanded BOXER into a feature and has signed on Kristina Reed, a two-time Oscar winner, as Consulting Producer. BOXER was a finalist in the PGA Diversity Program. Her latest short she directed, TRANSITION, won the Jury Runner-up Prize in the Collaboration Filmmaker Contest.
HAILEY KILGORE has a lot to say about Ti Moune, the character she plays in the Tony-nominated revival of Once On This Island: "She is a powerhouse. She knows what she wants. She's going to go and do it." The same can be said for the 19-year-old Tony nominee. The Michael Arden-helmed production of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's musical began performances at the Circle in the Square Theatre in November 2017. In just over six months, Kilgore has become a fresh-faced Broadway star, winning the hearts of audiences and critics alike. Tony winner LaChanze, currently starring in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, garnered her first nomination for originating the roleback in 1991. Now, LaChanze and Kilgore are facing each other in the stacked Leading Actress in a Musical category. Kilgore has always been a go-getter as well as a devout Ariana Grande fan and a pageant queen. Like Ti Moune, she's someone who knows what she wants and is going to go and get it. The young talent stopped by Show People with Paul Wontorek to tell us where she's been, and where she's headed.
What's up awesome people! We are back once again and this is Episode 55 of The Just Talk Podcast. In this episode, we go back to our newly format that we are trying out with 3 main questions that we ask each other. First question, why do people want to live forever? Also would YOU want to live forever? Why or why not? Stem Cell Topic becomes a part of that conversation. We then talk about our favorite leading actress as well as our favorite cereal. Our weekly trailer talks and Netflix recommendations comes afterward. We also talk about working out, hell week, and procedures/surgeries. Speaking of hell week, we go into our 2nd question which is, what would your version of Hell be like? All I can say is a version of hell for me is where there is no video games! That would suck so much especially the fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming out soon! We talk about how John Krasinski is an actor that's been getting more recognition and deservedly so. And finally, we get to our 3rd and last main question which is, what is one sport that you personally would like to become more popular/more mainstream? July 17, 2016. 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time Join Restita and Bob as they welcome actress Toy Lei. We will be discussing the difference between Stage combat and Real combat. TOY LEI has had a fascination with action films ever since her parents took her to Chinatown as a kid to watch kung-fu movies every Saturday afternoon. After lamenting the lack of roles for Asian females over 30, she began writing, directing, and producing her own projects. Her directorial debut, THE WEDDING, won her the Top 5 Women Filmmakers award from the Asian-American Film Lab and New York Women in Film and Television. Her latest, BOXER, won not only Best Actress, Best Action and the Grand Prize at the 2015 Asian-American Film Lab 72-hr Shootout, but also won Awards of Merit from the highly competitive Accolade Competition for Short Film, Women Filmmakers and Leading Actress. The film opened its fest run at the coveted Etheria Film Night and winning Best Action. It continued strong into the 2016 San Diego Comic-con. Toy, one of the handful of female fight choreographers out there, is currently under a directing mentorship with Grace Moss at NBC/Universal and a stunt/action filmmaking mentorship with Lane Leavitt.
On today's episode, I talk to Tony-nominated actor Geneva Carr. Geneva is a film, theater and television actor originally from Jackson, Mississippi. After studying French at Mount Holyoke, she moved to Paris and began a career in the world of business. Banking proved to be a lackluster life though, and a chance rekindling of her childhood love of acting led to her pursuing it professionally. This has obviously paid off, as Geneva just ended a run on Broadway in the fantastic play Hand to God, playing the role of the newly-widowed Margery, a performance which earned Geneva a Tony nomination for "Best Performance by a Leading Actress".This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on iTunes, follow me on Twitter.
