Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Scream VI, The Babysitter) and her husband, writer-director Jimmy Warden (Cocaine Bear, The Babysitter: Killer Queen), sit down with us to talk all things Borderline—a darkly twisted thriller about fame, obsession, and dangerous attraction. Samara stars as Sofia, a former ‘90s pop star trapped in a psychological game with an unhinged fan (Ray Nicholson), and Jimmy pulls back the curtain on making his feature directorial debut alongside his wife.We dive into the film's wild creative process, Samara's electric chemistry with Ray, and what it was like directing a film that blurs the line between love and madness. Plus, they share a hilarious (and slightly eerie) real-life story about being followed home—eerily fitting for Borderline's themes.Beyond the film, we talk The Babysitter, Cocaine Bear, and Samara's rise as a modern scream queen. And yes, we ask about Ready or Not 2—how could we not?Follow Us on Social Media:Instagram & Threads: @mostlyhorrorpodTikTok & Twitter/X: @mostlyhorrorSteve: @stevenisaverage on all socialsSean: @hypocrite.ink on IG/TikTok, @hypocriteink on Twitter/XEnjoy this episode?

Bioshock is one of the greatest games of all time. It is not just a one off either as it has two impressive sequels. The stories tackle individuality, class, race, and a myriad of themes in a world filled with 1950s art deco and futuristic technology. They are the definition of “must play” video games. How we overlooked that an adaption is coming to Netflix is beyond us. But we did see the news that the budget has been lowered for it. Will this negatively impact a story filled with awesome powers and robot-like monstrosities? Or is this an opportunity to focus on the amazing story and characters? In a Violent Nature is one of the most exciting and fun slashers to come out in years. It has been a hit with audiences so it comes as no surprise that a sequel has already been announced. Is it too soon or is this the next big horror franchise? We do things slightly differently this week as we look at three films. Our first one is a short that recently made its world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival. It is also our first entry in our look at sex in genre film. Dirty Bad Wrong is a look at the past and possible future of how we look at sex workers. It is also a tense watch with an uncomfortable climax and thought provoking ending. Before getting hot and heavy, we wanted to dip our toes into sex and horror. We start by entering the modern dating world in The Dead Thing. The plot revolves around a woman whose life is consumed by work, dating apps, and shallow hookups. Until she meets a man who wins her over. But when he ghosts her, it leads to a dangerous obsession.Los Angeles has been the setting for a myriad of movies over the decades. We talk about how this film is different and how it adds to the plot. The direction also combines noir and eroticism in a stylish mix. And while the story does not reinvent the wheel, it does touch on some powerful themes and one of us thought it had an all but perfect ending. It is almost a shame how little The Dead Thing does with its characters, however. Blu Hunt does a fine job in the lead role, but she is given little to work with. There is little in the way of development and if you end up caring about her at all it probably will not be in a positive way. The object of her affections does not give the audience anything to work with. Why is any of this happening? And if I do not know why, how can I care?We step away from sex and close the show with Cuckoo. Intentionally choosing style over substance, Director Tillman Singer crafts an atmospheric tale that is creepy while explaining little. A great performance from Euphoria's Hunter Shafer pair with Dan Stevens in an over the top role are highlights. But are they enough to make up for a plot that has plenty of questions but no answers?
Actor, director, and writer Megan Rosati was not a child vampire. But from first watch, she so identified with Eli, the 12-year-old vampire in LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, the modern horror classic from Sweden, that she would show the film to people to help them understand her. In this episode, she and Jordan dig into the ways we can feel like we're different -- especially in adolescence -- and the power of genre films to make a statement. Then Jordan has a quick thing about the late, great Scott Wampler and the impact of his work.To support or learn more about THE VANITY, go to Seed&SparkTikTok @thevanityiswatchingInstagram @thevanityfilmTwitter @thevanityfilm***With Jordan Crucchiola and Megan Rosati
SHOW NOTES: Grab your popcorn, take a sledgehammer to your 80s Pan N'Scan VHS (Disclaimer: Casual Trek endorses Physical Media, just, just not Pan N'Scan) and climb into your favourite beep-chair as Casual Trek goes to the movies In Search of Spock for Star Trek III: The Search for Spock! But, we have a little B-Feature before we hit our A-Picture and so we're also covering the other time a member of the Enterprise stole the Enterprise because the needs of the one, outweighed the needs of the many, ‘The Menagerie,' a clever way to reuse the unaired pilot of Star Trek- ‘The Cage' (See Episode 1 of this show) or a clever way to scrimp on some gold-pressed latinum for a series that was more expensive than it looked. Then, we go all in on ‘The Search for Spock,' as the Casual Trek crew won't stop raving about Christopher Lloyd's turn as a baddie. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, but sometimes, the needs of the few is to be rated and reviewed on all good podcatchers and apps! CONTENT WARNING: We talk about some very ableist tropes from a piece of 60s television. Episodes talked about: ‘The Menagerie' (12:22) and ‘Star Trek III: The Search for Spock,' (49:03) Miles pimps his latest appearance on ‘Breakfast in the Ruins,' Taskmaster, DragonBall, 2000ad and the Judge Dredd movies, Miles talks about Dan Dare, The Rolling Stones, Zager & Evans, our crew talk about attending our first gigs, Did Spock just kill a guy? How ‘The Cage' completely rewrites the message and meaning of ‘The Cage,' 60s ableism, Pike's gloopy make-up job, how Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has made ‘The Cage' REALLY weird, Tendii from Lower Decks would not be happy with the portrayal of Orions, Duran Duran (Wild Boys) Some of the many, many, many classic Genre Films of 1984 (and Miles didn't even mention the film adaptation of 1984 which came out that same year), oh, and also Repo Man. Despite his love of ‘Buckaroo Banzai,' you see Miles remember in real time that Christopher Lloyd also appears in that film. Casual Trek does not advocate underage drinking, but at least try for better than white wine. PAN AND SCAN IS THE DEVIL. Ponn Farr, David's death, Shatner CAN act, Utopia still needs dive bars, Bones has a Top-Five Dive Bar list, the Bones/Spock fusion, Mr. Adventure is dead now, he died in the cupboard, words Miles never thought he would ever say on this show ‘Pallette-Swapped Adric,' Kruge is a great villain, we're just going to talk about him a lot, better Magnificent Seven in Space films than ‘Rebel Moon.' James Horner, Does Spock's Return cheapen death? Miles confuses lighting with colour, What do Christopher Lloyd and Patrick Troughton have in common?
