On this episode of Remainders we watch the 2001 movie Bully. Based on a true story about a Florida murder, Bully is directed by Larry Clark of Kids fame. Capturing that same sense of aimless and amoral young people, Bully is a brutal and terrifying account of a group of kids planning to murder the monstrous Bobby, played by Nick Stahl. Bobby is the source of abuse and anguish for Marty, played by Brad Renfro, and their friendship spurs their friends to react. Mean, dirty, and slightly horrifying, Bully is nonetheless a time capsule of pre-9/11 fear of disaffected youth.Other topics include the careers of Nick Stahl and Brad Renfro, Batman Begins vs. The Dark Knight, Tom Wilkenson's accent, Liam Neeson and The Naked Gun, the passing of Michael Madsen, new Criterion sale pickups, and how big of a fan Eminem is of Kids.Songs of the WeekDead Meat by Sean LennonTaking a Chance on Love by Ella FitzgeraldRemainders Podcast Jukebox PlaylistWebsiteFacebookInstagramYouTubeTwitter

Growing up in the late 80's and early 90's, everyone was in love with Cannon and Carolco movies. When your mind thinks of 80's action movies, the first movies that come to mind is from one of those production companies. I met Ukrainian author and film critic Davyd Klimov after he reviewed my proof of concept Bishop's Day. His honest criticism of movies and love of cinema made me want to bring him on the pod and chat like true film nerds. He and I had a lot of things to talk about, so kick back and be prepared to get a lot of info on 80's action and more! When you're done with the pod, check out his book To Watch, or Not To Watch, which is filled with reviews that Klimov recommends and … doesn't.If you're not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Instagram and Facebook. I do free movie giveaways, mini movie reviews and more! Also, I decided to dabble in making my own slasher film entitled “Bishop's Day”. Check out the Instagram page for updates.

On this episode of Remainders we watch the 2000 film The Beach. Leo's first major role to come after the star making success of Titanic, time has been kind to this movie about disaffection and discovery in a pre-9/11 world with emerging technology. Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, the film's roster has also led to a decades later reappraisal. If anything, The Beach is an incredible time capsule of late 90s/early 2000s culture and zeitgeist.Other topics include Danny Boyle's filmography, movie soundtracks and discovering new music in the 90s, 2000s music, new VHS in the collection, screenings in the cemetery, the Phoenician Scheme and Wes Anderson's style and legacy, Darren's new painting for Punk Rock & Paintbrushes, Brian Wilson, and Batman Forever and the rumored Schumacher Cut.Songs of the WeekDon't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) by The Beach BoysDarlin' by The Beach BoysA Three-Legged Workhorse by This Will Destroy YouRemainders Podcast Jukebox PlaylistWebsiteFacebookInstagramYouTubeTwitter

It's the very last episode, folks! We've come full circle back to where it all began, nine and a half years ago. What will the Pauls make of Zak Snyder's definitive film after a near decade of Sandler-infused suffering? They're definitely older, but are they any wiser? Certainly not more disciplined as this prick runs for ninety minutes longer than last time. It's half a Halloween episode! Enjoy! Remember, the patreon will continue so if you're missing the Pauls, sign up to that 'reon, Padres! https://www.patreon.com/ogtpod Also, Quest Fantastic and Jen and the Film Critic are still running so find us there. Thank you much for listening, everyone. We are so proud of the 400+ episodes of this show we've made and we cherish every moment of making it. We would have been nothing if not for the OGTeam. We love you all. Take care. Paul (it doesn't matter which one. It never did)
