During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Stamford, Connecticut was terrorized by a killer who was strangling women and leaving their bodies by the side of the parkway. After four years and five confirmed victims, police arrested a local self-proclaimed preacher named Benjamin Miller, bringing the murders to an end and closing the case on what the press had dubbed the Bra Murders—or so they thought. From the moment Miller was arrested, there were some in the community who questioned whether the police had arrested the right man or if they'd simply chosen Miller as a scapegoat. Among other things, Miller had a long history of mental illness and, although he had initially confessed to the murders, he eventually recanted his confession and claimed that detectives had manipulated him into confessing. To this day, many Connecticut residents still wonder whether Benjamin Miller was really responsible for the Bra Murders, or if the real killer was allowed to walk free. March 11th, 2026: Deadline Recap; Buffa-Rollin by Twofiveandten
New Orleans has been around for over 300 years. From almost the very beginning, bar rooms have been an integral part of our social life. There are French works of art depicting bar scenes as early as the mid 1800’s. Starting in the 1970’s, photographers like Mike Smith and Lee Crum started celebrating the exteriors of barrooms, along with other street scenes, finding an almost romantic beauty in depicting decadence and decay in black & white. The next iteration of uniquely New Orleans artistic reverence for our bar rooms comes from a company called We Might Be On Fire, a creation of textile manufacturer Shaun Watson. Among Shaun’s collection of rugs, knitwear and pillows with bold prints that include alligators, birds, and flowers, there’s a collection of blankets that feature the exteriors of bar rooms. These aren’t artistic impressions or airbrushed glow-ups, they’re true-to-life, blanket-sized depictions of the outsides of bars, like Snake ‘n Jakes, F&M’s, Pal’s Lounge, The Saturn Bar, Buffa’s, Big Daddy’s, and many more. Talking of barrooms, whomever keeps records of these things maintains we’re drinking less alcohol these days. Maybe they don't include New Orleans in the collection of this data: Wwe’re without a doubt one of the most alcohol-centric cities in the US, if not the world. You might think that in 300 years of drinking we’ve created every variety of alcohol known to man. Well, Paul Kelly has added one more chapter to the story of local booze brands by creating vodka using Louisiana sweet potatoes and cane sugar. Paul distills his distinct sweet potato vodka at his distillery in Bogalusa. With the label Paul Kelly Vodka, it’s available at over 60 stores across the state, including Total Wine, Rouse’s, and a wide range of bars and restaurants. Every evening, as the sun goes down in New Orleans, we’re faced with a decision. Do we stay home tonight? Or do we go out? If you decide to go out, there are a lot of places you can try Paul Kelly Sweet Potato Vodka. If you stay in, you can make a Paul Kelly Sweet Potato Vodka drink at home and curl up with a good book under your We Might Be On Fire blanket that features your favorite local bar. Is that the most New Orleans sign-off sentence in the history of radio? It might be. Out to Lunch was recorded live over lunch at Columns in Uptown New Orleans.
As far back as Lia Buffa De Feo can remember, she wanted to be a mother. Chalk it up to growing up in an Italian immigrant family in suburban New York. There were plenty of examples in her life of strong women serving as the backbone of their respective households, and she hoped to one day fulfill such a presence herself. Much to De Feo's surprise, and in the face of unimaginable tragedy, she discovered the road to motherhood was far from smooth. Many women endure their share of hardship during pregnancy; few have to overcome the loss of one child to stillbirth, and another to a fatal prenatal condition. How did De Feo cope not only with these obstacles, but her fertility struggles in general? What helped De Feo persevere both at home and in the workplace? Women to Watch's Sue Rocco explores these subjects with De Feo, who is determined to use the pain from her own experience to advocate for expectant mothers encountering similar challenges. New Orleans has given the world all kinds of music. We refer to ourselves as the birthplace of jazz. We’re one of the principal breeding grounds of funk, bounce, and brass band music. And then there’s a style of piano playing that’s so identifiably from here it’s simply called, “New Orleans piano.” Generations of legendary New Orleans piano players became identified with the places they played. Fats Domino at the Dew Drop Inn. Professor Longhair at Tipitina’s. James Booker at The Maple Leaf. Today you can hear masters of New Orleans piano like Jon Cleary, Tom McDermott, Joe Krown, and others at clubs around town, like Chickie Wah Wah, The Bon Temps, and Buffa’s. Or, you can hear them at your place. You can have an A-list New Orleans piano player show up at your place - with a grand piano - and play your birthday party, wedding, or just a random Friday night, thanks to Jacques Ferland’s business, Piano On A Truck. Piano On A Truck is pretty much what it sounds like. It’s a grand piano on the back of a yellow, 1972 International pick-up truck. And it comes with, or without, a piano player. In our seemingly never-ending attempt to place order on a chaotic world, we like to categorize things into twos - either/or. Tall or short. Black or white. On the rocks or straight up. Today, for a lot of white-collar occupations, the either/or distinction is either working in the office or working from home. Well, like so many things in life, it turns out there’s a 3rd way. Billy Schell describes himself as CEO, owner and van driver of an apparel company called NOLA Shirts. NOLA Shirts designs and manufactures New Orleans themed Polo shirts, T-shirts, and hats, and sells them online or at various brick-and-mortar stores around New Orleans. The “van driver” in Billy’s job description is a reference to the company’s headquarters which are also Billy’s living quarters – a Mercedes Sprinter van that’s been his principal home and office since 2021. Around 5,525 years ago - it was probably a Thursday - in ancient Mesopotamia, the wheel was invented. To say it was a revolutionary invention is not just a bad pun, it’s also the understatement of several millennia. And just when you think every possible use of the wheel has already been thought of, along comes the 21st Century - and hashtag-van-life and Piano On A Truck, two New Orleans entrepreneurs discovering yet more places the revolutions of a wheel can take us. 2022 Professional Fighters League heavyweight runner-up Matheus Scheffel is working on harnessing his power and focusing on reaching this year's goal, the PFL championship.Scheffel (17-9, 2-2 PFL) lost twice to Ante Delija in last year's edition, including a first-round technical-knockout loss in the PFL championships in November. “Buffa” spent some time thinking about that November loss and bravely admitted he dealt with too much pressure at the time. The 30-year-old Brazilian fighter was very surprised to see his face on one of the Times Square digital billboards in New York City last year, which made him overthink ahead of the Delija clash. In the following months, Scheffel went to a psychologist to better discover himself and not allow his inner demons to hinder his in-cage performance. Scheffel will have the chance to showcase his improvements as he takes on Bruno Henrique Cappelozza at 2023 PFL 2 on April 7.“I started to work with a psychologist. It has been very good for me, to know me better. I think before I beat my opponent inside the cage, I have to be my opponent [inside] here, you know? I think I learned to control the monster inside me, you know what I mean? If I control the monster inside of me, brother, if I know how to use this monster at the right time, I get invincible.”(00:00) Intro(00:29) Being excited about the new season (01:00) Aiming to build and cement his legacy (01:28) People not believing in him (03:28) Proving doubters wrong (04:23) Whether there was any animosity with Cappelozza last year (05:46) His relationship with Cappelozza (06:48) The biggest takeaway from his first PFL season (08:29) Dealing with pressure (09:40) Going to the psychologist (10:54) Outro

Based in Boulder, Rare Silk—originally a female trio consisting of sisters MaryLynn and Gayle Gillaspie and Marguerite Juenemann—started out revisiting tunes from the swing era of the late '30s and early '40s. At the 1978 inception of KGNU, a Boulder community radio station, they created a regular public access show. The three got their break in 1980 when they opened for Benny Goodman, “the King of Swing,” at Macky Auditorium in Boulder. Goodman fell in love with the girls' tight, precisely harmonized material and asked them to accompany his tour. Joined by male vocalist Todd Buffa, the innovative ensemble then began modernizing its approach with stylistic versions of Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea songs. An A&R exec at PolyGram Records soon heard Rare Silk's sound, and the group's debut album, New Weave, made its way to #2 on Billboard's Jazz Albums chart. It was nominated for Best Jazz Vocal - Duo or Group at the 1984 Grammy Awards, and Buffa was nominated in the Arrangement - Two or More Voices category. Juenemann was replaced by Barbara Reeves, then Jamie Broumas. Rare Silk recorded two albums on the Palo Alto label and toured perpetually, winning over audiences with perfected harmonies, choreographed sequences and a diverse mixture of material. The group disbanded in 1988. MaryLynn Gillaspie returned to singing circa 2011 and released Secret Language, her solo CD produced by Kip Kuepper, in 2022.
