IMAX has been seeing a big surge in popularity thanks to films like The Odyssey, and the head of Hoyts is looking to utilise this to meet demand. Event Cinemas currently operates the only two IMAX theatres in New Zealand, in Wellington and Auckland. Film critic Darren Bevan says it's likely Christchurch will get an IMAX theatre - and Hoyts has said there's plans to upgrade existing cinema complexes in Riccarton in Christchurch, Te Awa in Hamilton and Sylvia Park in Auckland. Film critic and entertainment journalist, Mara Reinstein joins host Sandra Abrams to talk about the state of the film industry from someone who covers it for a living. The life of an entertainment journalist may look glamorous, but it is not. Between the impossible deadlines when the Emmys run late, followed by an early morning screening for a major studio film, it can be a marathon for various publications. Vanishing: A Love Story, Documentary Feature Vanishing: A Love Story is a documentary about award-winning novelist Cai Emmons and her loving, open-hearted journey towards death. In 2021, at the age of 70, Cai was diagnosed with ALS. Taking place in 2022, during the last six-months Cai's life, the film is, first and foremost, a story about the agency of expression —having a voice to create a legacy in the world.
