Note: We like our language NSFW salty, and there be spoilers here…Face Front, True Believers! On July 14, 2000, the Marvel cinematic universe truly began with the debut of X-Men, the motion picture! For the first time since movie serials, comic book heroes were adapted to the silver screen 100% straight(?), rather than as juvenile-skewing or camp! Blade may have been the first “good” and successful Marvel movie, and it surely influenced X-Men, but this was the film that proved that the complex soap opera of modern comics could be sold to a mainstream audience! X-Men revealed that a super-team property could launch a sprawling franchise, guided in part by Kevin Feige, and paving the way for the true Marvel Cinematic Universe! It’s such a big deal, Diabolu Frank, Illegal Machine, and Mr. Fixit decided to celebrate Rolled Spine’s sixth anniversary discussing it, 2003’s X2: X-Men United and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand in one Giant-Sized episode! On this episode we review the final chapter of Fox's X-Men franchise Dark Phoenix starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jessica Chastain, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, and Sophie Turner-Jonas.
Ali and Justin discuss the first ever Arena-only Mythic Championship, what they loved, what they hated, what went right and what went wrong. For pop culture, the guys don't hold back on the last entry in Fox's X-Men universe, "Dark Phoenix." 00:15 - The Week That Was 11:15 - Mythic Championship 3 48:21 - Movie Review: "Dark Phoenix" 1:14:11 - Wrap Up
After 9 years, the premiere cg-animated film franchise returns to tamper with the trilogy's nearly flawless ending. But first, Ian and Justin tackle the end of Fox's X-Men film franchise. Justin shares his take of the Child's Play reimagining, and finally brings an AMC story to the table. The Ghouls admit Pixar impresses with Toy Story 4, but an upset Ian starts a great debate over the characterization of an imaginary talking cowboy toy.
Well, as promised the gang went to see X-Men: Dark Phoenix this week and - actually - it wasn't half bad. Jads, JOPO, and Charles bring you their spoiler-filled review, and try to explain how the last of Fox's X-Men movies fits into all the other (mercifully, it doesn't). Plus we have all the latest gaming news from E3, and it's a very warm welcome back to our pal from across the pond, Ben!
The main part of Fox's X-Men franchise comes to an end with a film that... well, let's face it, it would be charitable to call it a whimper. We don't want to just relentlessly give Dark Phoenix a non-stop kicking, we'll try to find the good where we can... but let's just say that if you're Simon Kinberg, you probably don't want to be giving this one a listen. As usual with a new release, we've skipped news (there wasn't loads lately anyway), in favour of a bit of spoiler-free opinion chat before diving into more detailed discussion of a lot of really, really dumb storytelling decisions.00:00 Intro/Explain a Concept05:06 Spoiler-Free Discussion20:55 Spoiler-Filled DiscussionCinematic Universe is supported by the generosity of our backers on Patreon, who also get to hear episodes ad-free along with occasional bonus content! Reel Extra: X-Men: Dark Phoenix Well, despite the hate and hostility from incoming reviews, we decided to brave the theater and wade our way though the final film in Fox's X-Men series. And it was... a movie!
What's up nerds!? Bet you're freaked out by this semi-regular schedule aren't you? Well, this week the nerd news is pretty short! The guys discuss the early cancellation of Swamp Thing (lol DC) because apparently they're trying to be the next Firefly... too soon? Then, a quick breakdown & review of the newest season of Black Mirror. Spoilers: it's good. No one who has ever graced the presence of this podcast has been shy about their hatred for Fox's X-Men franchise, and no movie has been anticiapted with such hatred quite like Dark Phoenix has... but... Maybe we were wrong? Go in knowing this - there are three versions of Dark Phoenix: the movie which is set within the continuity-fucked Fox X-verse, the movie which is a standalone send off to the franchise, and the movie which is just one long Cyclops showreel. One is good, the other is terrible... But which one is hands down amazing? You'll have to tune in to find out!

In this episode, we take a look at the 3-D's...Deadpool, Donald Glover, and delays. First up, we discuss the brand-new trailer for DEADPOOL 2, analyzing the sights and jokes, and whether or not it has made us any more excited for the film. Next up, we cover the news that Donald Glover's animated Deadpool series is no longer a go at FX, which was most surprising in that it reminded us that Donald Glover was going to have an animated Deadpool series on FX. Finally, we share our thoughts on the recently announced release date delays of X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX and NEW MUTANTS (again!). What do we think this means for Fox's X-MEN movie universe? Thanksgiving break is winding down, which means that John is finally editing together the behemoth that is Episode 21 (And by behemoth we mean it - hence the Part 1). Tyrone Selby returns as the latest rotating co-host for an unintentionally Marvel-centric episode, as the two discuss their overall thoughts on the latest Thor film to hit theaters, then dive into the long and varied juggernaut (HA) that is Fox's X-Men movie franchise. This episode covers the original three present-day films, with Part 2 touching on the Wolverine spinoffs and the more recent prequel entries. Observations include the great central conflict that drives the characters, coming at the series with varying levels of background knowledge, some iconic characters that get a bum deal, why we didn't find The Last Stand the disaster everyone cites it as, and John's stance on why he'd prefer the series stay independent from the MCU. Special bonus: So many audio issues that John had to add a disclaimer at the start. 09:37 - Thor: Ragnarok review (Spoilers) 39:22 - X-Men/X2/X-Men: The Last Stand discussions (Spoilers for all three) Show Twitter (Send feedback, questions, and requests!): https://twitter.com/sketchwatchplay Show Facebook (Send feedback, questions, and requests!): https://www.facebook.com/sketchwatchplay Show homepage: http://sketchwatchplay.blogspot.com/ John's Twitter: https://twitter.com/Behonkiss Tyrone's Twitter: https://twitter.com/tyronehydraulic Chris's Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChristopTheWade Check out Tyrone's webcomic, Elements of Light: http://eolcomic.blogspot.com/ Check out Tyrone's indie film fest Soul 4 Reel: https://twitter.com/Soul4Reel Watch John's grandma seeing the original Thor for the first time: https://youtu.be/DDztQDoOtbY

Question: What are two things in need of a reboot? Answer: The X-MEN movie franchise, and Trev's voice. In this episode, a sick Trev bravely fights his own lost voice to join Joe in discussing the recent news of a potential "reboot" for Fox's X-MEN franchise. What does this news mean? Does Fox really have ANY idea what they are doing with the series? What direction SHOULD it take? We consider all the possibilities...or, well, at least some of them. Plus, we give our thoughts on the new DEADPOOL 2 director, Kevin Feige shooting down a Fox/MCU collaboration, the announcement of an INHUMAN television series, and DOCTOR STRANGE. Also, exactly five minutes of election talk. All this, and more, so give us a listen...if you can handle listening to Trev, that is. Note: We like our language NSFW salty, and there be spoilers here…Face Front, True Believers! Frank finally finished editing and releasing our coverage of the third; no sixth… Wait, do the solo movies count, since Origins had the team name in the title? Ah screw it most recent flick in the too long running X-Men franchise just a fortnight after its not-especially-anticipated release! And by “we” meaning a show run by Mr. Fixit while Frank lies passively on his back, nearly pulling a Fixit by almost dosing off several times and (speaking of releases) farting loudly and moistly following a full day of convention going and Mediterranean buffet gorging without Mac, who abstained from this outing! Also, Frank kept rolling around on the floor, bumping into the laptop and once accidentally shutting down the recording, making Fixit paranoid for the rest of the session! We’re in the same room, but you’ll swear it was a Skype session the way we phone it in at four in the morning! Also, Fixit’s recording panics, hiccups (one literal) and Frank’s bowel sounds are mostly edited out, which is more than we can say for the sprawling bloat of Bryan Singer’s latest, possibly last, arguably lamest outing with Marvel”s” mutants!
