Annie, Ella & André were delighted to chat with new (permanent, this time) head coach, Adrián González! He may be one of the youngest coaches in the league, but he's been coaching as long as he's been alive. From sports science degrees to teaching to coaching, we dive deep into his background and path that's led him to the big Spirit job.We also chat about the season ahead, including what stylistic changes Spirit fans can expect, and what exactly is the deal with these horrendous availability reports (and will they improve)? Then, we get some insight on his move to the U.S., including trying to find passable coffee and the place he's found that serves quality authentic Spanish food. Also, he explains what's made him feel like this is already home,We get into all that, and a lot more! Thank you for listening, please subscribe, rate, and review. It means a lot to us.

You're past the honeymoon phase—now it's time to show what you're made of.The first 90 days in a new leadership role mark a critical shift: from being new to being noticed. This episode of Promoted: Stop Doubting, Start Leading dives deep into what it really takes to move from early impressions to lasting influence.Karen Gombault breaks down five strategic moves that build your credibility, establish your authority, and help you drive meaningful progress—even if everything still feels new. Whether you're looking to build trust, set the tone, or make a visible impact, this episode is your tactical roadmap for the next stretch of your leadership journey.5 KEY TAKEAWAYS:1. Create consistent rhythms—like weekly updates or structured decision-making forums—that make your impact visible and predictable.3. Choose one high-impact initiative. Show you can move the needle by simplifying a stuck process or streamlining a workflow that affects more than just your team.4. Deepen strategic relationships. Go beyond “getting to know you” chats. Book second-round meetings that explore strategy and surface valuable early feedback.5. Protect your energy. Leadership presence starts with how you feel. Schedule personal time first, and build in moments that recharge and ground you.“Your energy is part of your presence. If you are exhausted, distracted, reactive—that is what people experience.” – Karen GombaultThe 90-day mark is where perceptions form and expectations rise. Do you wonder “Is this perimenopause?” Do you wonder what it looks and feels like? Get information on how to adjust and alter your exercise when you are. My Guest: Abby Chitty, a single mom with 5 kids between 15 and 24. She owns her own business as a realtor. We met on Instagram and I invited her to be a guest in this unique episode where we're doing a coaching call and you get to listen over the fence. Questions We Answer in This Episode: [00:05:15] What does perimenopause look like for asymptomatic women over 50? [00:20:00] What changes do we need to make to our workout routine? [00:25:00] If asymptomatic, how do we know if we're moving through the stages and how then do we judge what changes to make? What's Showing Up for Abby? Gaining 20 lbs slowly post-kids, despite a healthy lifestyle. Feeling frustrated when traditional diet and exercise weren't effective anymore. Friends telling you might be “doing too much” in terms of fitness. 5 days/week strength training Seasonal long-distance running (up to 30K) Uses YouTube programs with fast-paced, minimal-rest formats Occasional yoga/mobility work Exercises to failure, prefers lifting heavy Time to Flip the Switch with Abby: Overtraining & Recovery Benefit from less frequent but heavier strength sessions Incorporating rest + slower tempo lifting could help. Recovery may be insufficient—without it, muscle building stalls. Running & Cortisol Long runs + strength + possible fasting = cortisol overload. Midlife women are more vulnerable to stress and hormonal shifts. Lower estrogen increases cortisol response, impacting body composition. Sleep & Metabolism Sleep deprivation is linked to stubborn weight and reduced muscle recovery. Abby averages 5.5–6.5 hours of sleep, with limited REM/deep sleep. Need more sleep to trigger growth hormone/testosterone release. Supplements Try specific forms (glycinate or L-threonate) and gradually increase the dose. Abby uses magnesium oil and a multivitamin with magnesium. Nutrition A little caloric deficit is okay, but eat enough. Not doing it too long creates stress. Reintroduce sweet potatoes. Carbs with high fiber at night will help us sleep better. Key Takeaways to Know Is This Perimenopause? You might be in perimenopause without classic symptoms: Weight gain and sleep disruption can be early signs. More isn't always better in midlife exercise: Volume should decrease, intensity (with recovery) can rise. Muscle preservation is crucial: It drives metabolism and health outcomes more than weight alone. Sleep matters just as much as workouts: It affects hormonal balance, recovery, and fat loss. Cortisol and insulin sensitivity shift in midlife: Long-distance cardio and fasting a tricky combo. Smart scale stats are more telling than BMI: Body composition paints a clearer health picture. Personalized magnesium dosing: May improve sleep and aid recovery in midlife. In this episode, Colleen shares how our habitual thoughts are often attempts to solve emotional problems and regulate our nervous systems. She dives into her own experience of stress-induced burnout, driven by hyper-focus on business analytics, and the creative stagnation it caused. By recognizing these patterns, Colleen highlights how to reset with small, intentional habits that prioritize self-care and help you regain balance and creativity. Key Takeaways: Thoughts as Habits: Most of our thoughts are habitual patterns developed to solve emotional discomfort. Your brain is constantly seeking control and certainty, often at the expense of creativity and emotional balance. The Brain's Narrative: Thought processes aim to regulate your nervous system by telling a story that makes you feel safe. These narratives, while comforting, can sometimes keep you in a stress loop. Burnout and Creativity: Chronic stress, often self-inflicted by overworking or overthinking, depletes creativity and leaves you feeling stuck. Small habits like reading, exercise, or mindfulness breaks can help shift you into a more relaxed and creative state. Breaking the Cycle: Identify the problem your brain is trying to solve and examine the emotion driving it. Ask yourself, "Is this thought process leading to a regulated nervous system, or is it just a hamster wheel?" Reintroduce simple, grounding habits that support balance and mental clarity. Action Steps: Pause and Reflect: Notice your thought patterns and ask, "What emotional need is my brain trying to solve?" Interrupt the Hamster Wheel: Step outside the loop of habitual thinking and assess whether your current actions are helping or hindering your emotional well-being. Start Small: Set a micro-goal to reintroduce a habit that supports creativity and calm, like reading for 10 minutes, taking a phone-free break, or practicing deep breathing. Be Patient: Building new habits takes time. Celebrate small wins and trust that your efforts will compound over time. Homework: Notice a habitual thought process or pattern that keeps you stuck or stressed. Reflect on the emotion driving it and ask yourself if there's a better way to meet that need. Experiment with a small, intentional habit that redirects your focus and supports a more regulated nervous system. Click here to BOOK A DISCOVERY CALL. Dr. Sandy Skotnicki is a leading expert and one of a handful of dermatologists in Canada with a subspecialty in allergic contact dermatitis and patch testing. We discuss allergens vs irritants, natural vs synthetic, the rise of sensitive skin issues, ingredient transparency, and the regulatory challenges within the beauty industry, particularly concerning fragrance and highlighting the need for better consumer education and safer product formulations. You'll walk away with valuable knowledge and practical skin hygiene tips for both yourself and your children. This is a must listen if you are experiencing skin issues or want to avoid them in the future! Follow Sandy on Instagram @drsandyskotnicki and check out her bestselling book "Beyond Soap." (Amazon affiliate link). Takeaways Avoiding toxins and allergenic ingredients in everyday products is important for overall health and well-being. There is a difference between irritants and allergens, and understanding this distinction can help in identifying and avoiding potential skin reactions. Fragrances, both natural and synthetic, can be a common cause of allergic contact dermatitis. Finding skincare products that work for sensitive skin can be challenging, and it often requires trial and error. The beauty industry needs more research, regulation, and education to ensure the safety and efficacy of products. Simplify your skincare routine and eliminate potential irritants to identify triggers for skin reactions. Reintroduce products one at a time to pinpoint the cause of skin problems. Skincare for young children should involve minimal washing and exposure to some dirt. Excessive cleanliness can disrupt the immune system and the skin's natural balance.
