Now that we have vended our first MagicCon of this new era, we break down this new vending experience for WotCs new, premier, Professional Level Organized Play event. What was this like compared to GPs, Magic Fests, PTs, and Mythic Championships of the past, was this a better or worse experience overall for vendors, staff, and players alike? Did you even feel like you were at a Pro Tour or remember that there was one running at the same time?
After casting off the idea of a "season" of events where Grad Prix, Magic Fests and local events no longer paralleled one another in terms of format nor paralleled the Pro Tour or Mythic Championship that capped the current quarter, WotC brought us some interesting news. Currently scheduled, after the Pioneer Regionals and Pro Tour, the next capstone events will be Standard. And thus we seem to be returning back to format seasonality. This week we discuss the kind of foundation this sets for both vendors and LGS alike, event scheduling for both, and what we hope for moving forward as WotC continues to announce "end of season" events.

The Cat took home a Mythic Championship, and we’re over the Blood Moon about it. This week, we’re in a brewing mood and whipped up some decks that center around the underutilized legendary artifacts from Throne of Eldraine (no Cats or Fires allowed!). Then, just like scientists do with the subjects in any good experiment, we smacked them together to see which one didn’t break. Which is to say, we played them against each other, and we bet you won’t guess which artifact won! The MP crew also discusses the breakout decks of this refreshing new Standard and talk underperformers and the decks that need retooling (or to simply be put aside for now). Then we get all inspirational with another edition of Kevin’s Serious Magic: the Gathering Professional Corner of Mythic Advice, which has increased our listeners’ game win percentage by six points every time we’ve done the segment*. *This statement has not been evaluated by the FDA or WotC. -- Intro music: Day Trips by Ketsa Don’t forget to rate and subscribe to us wherever you enjoy MTG podcasts. Mythic Championship VI Thoughts - Magic: The Gathering Study Hall | TCGU by TCG University
Faithless Brewing, Episode 31: Witch's Oven Let's face it, Vantress Gargoyle is probably not going to make the leap to eternal playable anytime soon. It struggles to attack in Pioneer, although our Modern explorations did yield some very interesting builds using powerful tools like Archive Trap and Into the Story. That being said, when a card can't even hack it in Standard, we shouldn't ask too much of it off the bat. On the other hand, when a card is dominating Standard and meets the benchmark metrics for eternal playability (best in class effect, highly efficient, useful card type) it is certainly worth a closer look. Witch's Oven fits that bill. The "Kentucky Fried Kitten" / "Meow Mix" combo with Cauldron Familiar was a breakout star at the most recent Mythic Championships, and those two have started to make some inroads into Pioneer as well. But how good is this combo really? And is there more to the Oven than just cat food? While Damon and Dan are busy prepping Niv-Mizzet in Modern for GP Columbus, David has been cooking up some spicy Oven lists that he thinks just might hit the sweet spot. Flashback: Vantress Gargoyle Modern Simic Flying Goyfs: 3-2 league. Extremely effective at finding big flyers and attacking with them, but struggles against creature decks and high density of removal. Sultai Flying Goyfs: 2-3 league, noticeably clunkier than the Simic version because Glimpse and Hedron Crab fight for mana, but some additions like Drown in the Loch are well worth the price of admission. Gargoyles, Please!: 2-3 league. Yes, this is a Modern list with four copies of Didn't Say Please. The concept here is not bad, but the execution could use refinement. Turbo Trap Control: 4-1 league. This strategy might be secretly excellent. Needs a more diverse set of spells in the main deck, but Mystic Sanctuary + Into the Story is incredible and the sideboard juke plan can steal games. Pioneer Emry Ascendancy: achieved numerous turn 3 kills, but this deck relies super heavily on Emry surviving, and probably shouldn't run any Gargoyles as they can never attack Gargoyle Gift: 3-2 league, Gargoyle is actually a decent blocker here and synergizes with both Kiora and Gift Bonus list: Retraction Helix Ascendancy by MrRaeb Brew Session: Witch's Oven Pioneer Sketch 1: Sultai Cat Dredge Sketch 2: Rakdos Bone Picker Sketch 3: Grixis Emerge Oven Sketch 4: Orzhov Life Gain Modern Utopia Niv-Mizzet (GP Columbus build) Contact Us Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/faithlessbrewingIf you like our show, be sure to join our community of brewers! It was a busy weekend between the Mythic Championship testing a new mulligan rule and the pre-release of one of the best looking sets in a while.
For today's episode, we're blatantly “cashing in” on Bob's most recent metagame overview article on Channel Fireball, that garnered a lot of attention. Following the ban of and , Bob outlines an allegedly balanced, diverse and potentially fun format with no deck reaching double-digit % respresentaiton. Enter Eric Landon, shatterer of dreams who disagrees with Bob's point of view quite strongly. Listen to these two Legacy powerhouse players (and Julian) discuss their views of today's Legacy metagame. Somehow the conversation steers towads Julian calling a “reasonable” magic card, while everyone laments the absence of Zoo. In the second part of today's show, our three heros discuss the recently proposed mulligan rule change by Wizards of the Coast, which will be tested at the next Mythic Championship in London (April 26th-28th). Will this destroy Legacy as we know it or isn't it nearly as much of a deal as the initial reaction would have you believe? And how many s should you buy now?
