On the thirty- seventh episode of ATFT, I talked with actress/ producer Michelle Calloway! While I wouldn't say this episode is explicit, there is some occasional language. Michelle Calloway is an artistic filmmaker based in Jacksonville who has been steadily working in the film industry since graduating Columbia College in Chicago with a degree in photography. She initially started working behind the camera in both film and photography but, in recent years as she has made her own films, has stepped in front of the camera. Like Richard Avedon, Michelle's short films explore the inner complexity of the human condition outwardly through visual storytelling. Michelle's sophomore short titled “Belle Isle” had a successful, worldwide festival run and earned her the award for “Best Experimental Short” at the Independent Shorts Awards in Los Angeles. Michelle has also starred in various other shorts such as “The Weary Time Traveler”, "The Resident", and “Southern Glen” but has recently made her feature film debut in Rachel Suissa's comedy Greek Mothers Never Die, which is currently in the middle of a film festival run and recently won the "Best Comedy Feature" award at the Central Florida Film Festival. Aside from her work in film, Michelle is signed with two modeling agencies, Posewell Model & Talent Management and The Peak Agency, and has been featured in commercials and advertisements. Michelle has been established as one of Jacksonville's most prominent filmmakers whose success will only continue upwards as her work ethic and genuine, singular artistry will take her far. Michelle's latest project is the drama short film, “Tallulah Park”. Named after a real park in Jacksonville, this poetic short is focused on Michelle's character Olivia as she struggles to find herself as she is haunted by her past. After a transformative chance encounter, her mindset changes leading her to seek redemption. Like Michelle's previous shorts, the internal complexity of her character is explored outwardly, but this time through found music and lyrical writing. For this project, Michelle wore three hats as she wrote, starred, and produced this film. “Tallulah Park” has just begun its film festival run and is expected to have a premiere in Jacksonville at a later date. While you're waiting for “Tallulah Park” to be released, go to LulahFilms.com to learn more about Michelle's production company as well as watch her past work! This is Michelle's first appearance on ATFT! We have been connected on Instagram for at least a year now but it wasn't until we recorded this interview that we met in person! Just by following her on Instagram, I knew Michelle was cool and authentic but when I met her in person, I saw how much of a boss she is while remaining incredibly kind. I have the utmost respect for her because of her confident attitude as well as her strong work ethic. I aspire to carry myself in this way as my shy self often hides my specificity and decisiveness. This interview was without a doubt one of the best interviews on ATFT thus far and one I have gained the most from so I am sure all creatives will take away something from listening. This episode was recorded on January 16, 2025. In this episode, Michelle talks about the evolution of her artistry between photography and film through the years. Even though Michelle claims she is not a cinephile, she certainly knows some hidden gems which turns into a game throughout this episode. Michelle also talks about how her initial fear of acting transformed her, working with Brittany Murphy on one of her last films, and how she has turned her creative work into a successful business. All this and much more on the latest episode of All the Film Things! Background music created and used with permission by the Copyright Free Music - Background Music for Videos channel on YouTube.

Hey all, and Happy New Year! Welcome to a new season of Mr. P.'s Tales from the Road; the 4th year kick off! In this first-of-the-year edition, we head back to the Motor City to swashbuckle our way through the vegetation-choked ruins of the Belle Isle Zoo! Maybe it's not as daring and as adventure-filled as anything Indiana Jones might tackle, but this particular location is one of the most unique of Detroit, Michigan's abandoned offerings. So, join me for the beginning of a whole new season; plenty of history and tales abound, so (on your New Year's diet), grab your stein full of ice-water, maybe snag a turkey sammich and warm up some chicken noodle soup to stay warm, listen in and enjoy the show! Welcome to your Daily Detroit for Monday, December 2, 2024. Jer Staes and Fletcher Sharpe get into the latest happenings in Southeast Michigan. As we approach the end of the year, we reflect on resolutions, goals, and unexpected developments in the city. Our first story revolves around General Motors' bold announcement to demolish Detroit's iconic Renaissance Center if public funding isn't secured for its renovation plans with Dan Gilbert's Bedrock. The proposal faces skepticism from lawmakers and pushback from local architects and preservationists. Jer and Fletcher debate whether this threat is a bluff and discuss the potential impacts on Detroit's skyline. More reported info on the Freep: https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2024/12/01/gm-tear-down-rencen-towers-subsidies-rejected/76658555007/ Next, changes at Stellantis as CEO Carlos Tavares steps down following a challenging year for the auto giant. The company, formed from the merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler, faces significant financial challenges and a search for a new leader. The discussion touches on the future of iconic brands like Jeep and Chrysler and the evolving automotive market. Why did they let Chrysler lose their swagger? The Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle is set to reopen on December 4th. This historic gem, designed by George Mason and Albert Kahn, has been a beloved part of Detroit since 1904. We get into its rich history and the excitement surrounding its reopening. In sports, the Detroit Lions bolster their defense by signing former All Pro safety Jamal Adams. Despite recent injuries, Adams' versatility is seen as a valuable addition to the team. Fletcher Sharpe provides insights into what this means for the Lions' defense. Finally, we turn our attention to the Detroit Pistons. Despite a 9-13 record, the team is showing promise. Fletcher highlights the impact of players like Cade Cunningham and Malik Beasley, as well as the positive changes under new coaching. There's hope for a playoff push as the Pistons continue to develop and grow. Daily Detroit shares what to know and where to go in Metro Detroit every single day on our podcast and newsletter. Hadassah GreenSky is an artist, activist, and musician. She is also the organizer of the Vibes with the Tribes, an annual Native American and cultural festival held in Detroit since 2020. You may know her from a viral photo of her and a few fellow dancers in front of the former Christopher Columbus statue in Detroit. Another one of her projects is a documentary, referred to as The Red Ghetto, which documents the lives of Native American families living in the Cass Corridor. According to GreenSky, those who lived in Detroit all had stories of relatives living in the Cass Corridor. "I think I heard an auntie once say there was over 120 different nations once represented in the city of Detroit, and there's still remnants of that," said GreenSky. "But, there's no, like, historical documents that talk about this. It's all just stories that all of us have." GreenSky has also been vocal about water rights. This year, they are organizing a Prayer Walk for the Water on Indigenous Peoples Day, Oct. 14 from 1-5 pm on Belle Isle in Detroit. The event is in commemoration of Grandma Josephine Mandamin, who, as an elder, walked around all of the Great Lakes, several times. GUEST: Hadassah GreenSky, artist, community organizer, curator, cultural worker, indigenous futurist working as a visual and music artist, dancer, bead artist, seamstress, graphic designer, photographer, videographer and modelSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In S4Ep16 Pt1 of the PRP, Adam reconnects with seasoned marathoner, established cofounder of WeRun313, passionate local philanthropist and spiritual guru extraordinaire Joe Robinson who has been preparing for the Berlin Marathon on Sept 29th, 2024. Knox Robinson, legendary long distance runner, global cultural icon, remarkable vibe prescriber and Joe's running mentor joins the show to offer his take on all things bananas, race prep and of course, the running culture that is booming in Detroit! In a refreshing change of pace from traditional PRP episodes, the fellas link up out on Belle Isle 8 weeks out from race day to discuss what peak training is going to look like for Joe over the next couple months. Knox provides some key insight into his unique coaching philosophy and explains why his ad-lib style (that he picked up while training in Ethiopia with some of the best runners in the world) is truly a battle tested strategy for unlocking the best performances from his athletes. Just how far out does Knox let Joe see what the plan is? Not weeks, not days, not hours… we're talking minutes, people. A practice that has forced Joe to be prepared for any workout, any run, any level of output at any given time. When you're training with Knox it's best to not ask questions and you had better show up everyday with an open mind, ready to rumble. Things get vulnerable when Knox illustrates the deeply significant role WeRun313 is serving for its local community. For Detroit to see this version of itself, for black excellence to be at the forefront of cultural, economical and spiritual growth at such a staggering rate is something truly profound. From running, to community support, to philanthropy and beyond; Joe, Lance and everyone who has climbed aboard the WeRun313 rocket ship has made it unequivocally clear - not only do they belong, but they are leading the game, and you best believe, these cats are just getting started!! What's the difference between hope & faith?? Errr does Joe low key abuse voice notes?! Did the ice cream lady just tell Knox he has chicken legs?! We out here recording on wax! Park vibes! African Game?! Mt Kilimanjaro?! Natural wine, psychedelics, free jazz & queer theory oh my! This and so much more in this inspiring, encouraging and amazing episode of the PRP! On the north side of Belle Isle, better known as the "Detroit side," sits a historic landmark that has been the home of Detroit's only rowing club for more than 100 years. In its heyday, the boathouse was a bustling venue, featuring a grand ballroom, dining rooms and a bar frequented by Detroit's elite. But the future of the boathouse remains uncertain. In this episode of "CuriosiD," WDET's Amanda LeClaire digs into the history of the iconic structure, and what needs to be done to save it.

Will Power has won just about everything there is to win in the NTT IndyCar Series such as the most pole positions in Indy car racing history (70), the Indianapolis 500, the series championship (twice) and multiple races along the way. However, his last race win came in June of 2022 at the Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle until this year's race in June at Road America. We had a chance to chat with Power in the media bullpen for the 2024 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in April, where in this wide-ranging chat, he talks about his wife's life-threatening illness, his off-season prep, favorite and most challenging parts of the Long Beach circuit (where he's won twice before), karting, and Indianapolis hybrid testing. Power is thoughtful and forthright with his answers. Enjoy! Read More... Interview and photos Copyright © by Larry Mason
Phil and Josh return for E223 of the GSP to discuss all the craziness at Detroit, Gateway and elsewhere in the world of motorsports. In Detroit, Honda powered IndyCar's seemed to dominate in Chevy's house with the podium swept by the Ohio/California gang. Scott Dixon put on another fuel saving doctoral dissertation but had heat from fellow Kiwi and teammate Marcus Armstrong and former teammate Marcus Ericsson at the end. Issues throughout the field and eight cautions in the first 73 laps marred what basically became a survival test. Augustin Canapino and the Argentinian fanbase are out of order after threatening Theo Pourchaire. When the drivers are wishing and hoping to go back to Belle Isle, the track is bad. NASCAR Cup and Trucks were at Gateway while the XFinity drivers were at Portland for road course action. Austin Cindric was the beneficiary of issues for both Christopher Bell and teammate Ryan Blaney, taking his first win since winning the 2022 Daytona 500. This was not a great day for the points contenders in general, but there's still plenty of races left. Stewart-Haas Racing will cease to exist at the end of 2024, after Tony and Gene made that announcement to the team after the 600. Phil and Josh give their thoughts at the end of this organization along with where some of the key people will go. With Snoreoma upcoming, that will be Faux last telecast of 2024. Other than Harvick and Mike Joy, is there anything redeeming? Shane Van Gisbergen became a NASCAR XFinity winner at Portland, passing dominant presence Justin Allgaier late in the race. All three Kaulig cars finished in the top 10, and SVG locks himself into the playoffs. Another person who is locked into the playoffs is Corey Heim after a fourth win of the Truck Series regular season. Outside of Heim, Ty Majeski, Christian Eckes and Nick Sanchez stand as the only drivers that might have a chance at Phoenix. The GSP Roundup will recap IMSA at Detroit, NHRA at Epping, MotoGP/Moto2 at Mugello along with major rider news and WRC Rally Italy before previewing Indy NXT at Road America. Phil and Josh make their picks and discuss the F1 Canadian Grand Prix, NASCAR Cup and XFinity at Snoreoma and IndyCar at Road America. Josh lets us know his exploits in iRacing on his Sim Segment prior to show close.
Today we're talking about three stories around town with Fletcher Sharpe. First up, news that the old Belle Isle Zoo (technically, the Children's Zoo for a time) will be razed and turned into natural habitat. Both of us remember going to that place when it was a thing, we share our memories and a movie that was shot there. Second, the Belle Isle slide is returning this summer, says the Michigan DNR. Is riding the Giant Slide at Belle Isle your real "I'm a Detroiter" baptism? (We're of course joking, kinda?) And finally, with the rise of the WNBA - we're feeling like Detroit is on the sidelines and wax poetic about the Detroit Shock and their legacy here, and how they should be brought back, especially with the rise of the women's game.
