This Women's History Month, I've been sharing on LinkedIn a daily quote, quip, or sip of women who have made an impact on my life. It got me thinking about my childhood role models and Julie Andrews was one of them. I was getting a bit nostalgic about "Mary Poppins" - one of my favorite movies of all time - and had the realization that this movie has several good and bad examples of leadership. So, let's have a tea party on the ceiling and sip these lessons together, before there's a run on the bank (too soon?). For more sips and tips, connect with me on social and follow @LeaderSips @Leadspirations and @LifeisGrit on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. It is a pleasure to welcome actor Spencer Breslin to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. A talent scout discovered Spencer in a New York City playground at the age of three. He starred in over 50 commercials for Life Cereal and McDonald's. When he was four, Spencer Breslin debuted on ABC's short-lived sitcom Soul Man and appeared in the 1999 three-part horror miniseries Stephen King's Storm of the Century. Those experiences lead Spencer to star in several films, including Disney's The Kid (starring Bruce Willis), The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3 (starring Tim Allen), The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (starring Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway), and The Cat in the Hat (starring Mike Myers and Dakota Fanning). He also starred in TV series such as Bones, Center of the Universe (with John Goodman and Jean Smart), and Law & Order. In addition to his film work, Spencer Breslin has a passion for music. He released his debut folk rock album, Labor Day, in 2012 on his record label, Acadian Recording Company. Ladybug Transistor's Gary Olson recorded the album, while James William Hindle produced the record. Actor Jesse Eisenberg made a cameo on the album's ninth track: “The Patient.” In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Spencer Breslin spoke about some lessons he learned from his legendary cast members from past projects and his latest film: Murder, Anyone?

Long-time listeners know that I'm the proud father of triplets and anyone who has seen me perform stand-up knows that I lean on my experiences raising them heavily when I perform. Well, today's guest on Uncorking a Story, Cort Casady is also a father of triplets and joined me to talk about his latest book Not Your Father's America: An Adventure Raising Triplets in a Country Being Changed by Greed. Meet Cort Casady Cort is a TV writer-producer, songwriter, playwright, and author. He has won two Emmy Awards and three NAACP Image Awards for his work as a writer-producer in television. He began his TV writing career by creating the story and characters for a five-installment movie mini-series called Kenny Rogers as The Gambler. He went on to help format and launch the long-running talent competition, Star Search with Ed McMahon, the forerunner of American Idol. His credits include numerous other series, awards shows, and specials. For the past 19 years, he has been supervising producer of the American Film Institute tributes to America's leading actors and filmmakers, including AFI's tributes to George Clooney in 2018, Denzel Washington in 2019, and Julie Andrews this year (after being delayed by COVID for two years). His songs have been recorded by Crystal Gayle, Jessie Colter, and Marshall Chapman and commissioned for the films Electric Horseman and Honeysuckle Rose. His musical play, King of the Road: The Roger Miller Story, co-written with Mary Miller, had its world premiere at the Laguna Playhouse in Laguna Beach in 2017. His memoir, Not Your Father's America: An Adventure Raising Triplets in a Country Being Changed by Greed, was just published.  Key Topics: Emotions experienced while having difficulty trying to start a family How a sense of humor helps your sanity (and marital relationship) when raising triplets. Sanity-saving advice given to him by a nurse before leaving the hospital. The importance of rasing multiples as individuals and not part of “a set.” Cort's take on the changes taking place in the America his triplets are inheriting. Ah Mary Poppins. First introduced in 1934 in a book of the same name written by P.L. Travers, Mary Poppins blew into our hearts alongside the East Wind as she came to care for the Bank children in London. She was further popularized by the Walt Disney Company with the movie Mary Poppins in 1964 starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. Through a wonderful mixture of play, songs, and a dash of magic, Mary Poppins guides the Banks children to be more fully realized people who care for things like laughter and feeing birds and flying kites. She also has an umbrella, this is an important fact. The character of Mary Poppins has been referenced across much of pop culture since she was first introduced, recently in Guardians of the Galaxy Part 2. But there is no reference to that beloved, magical, possibly witchlike figure of Mary Poppins more endearing, hilarious, or twisted than in this special episode of Boy Meets World, "The Psychotic Episode." Thats right, "I Mary Poppin'ed ya". Join the Boys as they relive this wonderful moment and many other slightly more or slightly less wonderful moments this week on Boy Meets World Fever.

Best Actress

[ For full episode catalogue please subscribe to our Patreon at Patreon.com/BestActress ] The year is 1965 and the nominees are: 1. Kim Stanley - Seance on a Wet Afternoon 2. Debbie Reynolds - The Unsinkable Molly Brown 3. Sophia Loren - Marriage Italian Style 4. Anne Bancroft - The Pumpkin Eater 5. Julie Andrews - Mary Poppins - In 1965 Julie Andrews victoriously won the Best Actress Oscar for her iconic role as Mary Poppins. It was a bit of a musical vs musical of Mary Poppins vs My Fair Lady in the Best Picture category and was a snub for Audrey Hepburn in the best actress category. Andrews made Eliza Doolittle famous on Broadway and was the expected choice for the role but when Jack Warner wanted a more bankable star and gave it to Hepburn the public sunk their teeth into the drama. The win for Poppins was seen as a consolation prize for this ‘injustice' to Andrews. This made Julie Andrews insecure about the win for decades and left her Oscar in her attic. She has since seen the win for what it is, a true accomplishment (I mean MP was her first movie EVER), and Oscar is now proudly displayed on her mantle for all to see. Each performance nominated this year is so different and was a very interesting one to dissect. Join host Kyle Brownrigg with guest host Robert Watson as they discuss.

Ten and something years ago, I saw myself as the patient, longsuffering victim of my clueless, insensitive husband's harsh communication. And did he feel it? Yes, he did. But I was making a mistake I had no idea I was making. And I was doing it all the Fraggle Rockin' time. And you might be doing it too. And it's ok. We genuinely have no reason at all to believe we're doing anything wrong. In fact, we have the following three reasons to believe we're absostankin'lutely in the right! Check these out! Number 1. We are speaking in a perfectly calm, collected, patient, Strawberry Fields Forever kind of voice! How could we possibly be in the wrong? “Honey, I told you about Tanner's piano recital three weeks ago.” Just listen to that warm good-naturedness. So affable! Julie Andrews and Mother Teresa are more wrong than us! Number 2. We are speaking the Honest to Paul McCartney truth! He is remembering wrong. He is in denial. We are speaking the shining, unvarnished, glorious resplendent truth. It is a verified fact that we told them about Tanner's piano recital three weeks in advance, and we have the text convo to prove it. No fault here. No way, no how, nowhere, no place. And… Number 3. Self care. The hallmark virtue of the 21st century. We speak up for ourselves. WE are not to be trifled with, gaslighted, manipulated, slandered or pushed around. We are woman, hear us roar. Everyone knows it would be wrong to NOT point out that we had already told him about Tanner's piano recital. We would be betraying ourselves and the entire cause that the suffragettes risked their lives for! Being heard! I rest my case. There is no way we are possibly in the wrong. He is the backward dunderhead with the problem. So what could possibly be the mistake? Find out in this episode. Coming soon, in my free Facebook group, Wives Changing Lives, a detailed training on this very hot subject, with accompanying mini workbook. Please message me if you'd like to join the group and get in on the action. ❤️‍

Francesca T. Royster's Black Country Music: Listening for Revolutions is a vital read that helps us to understand how country music got whitewashed, stripping it of its distinctly African American origins in slavery and its aftermath, and shows us how embracing that history will only enrich the form. Royster weaves Black, queer, and feminist scholarship into her analysis, but even more compellingly, she brings her own experiences as a Black, queer country fan to bear on her exploration of Black artists in country's past and present. Through engaging essays, she explores Tina Turner's country album, Darius Rucker's Black bro image, Our Native Daughters' history-steeped banjo music, and Lil' Nas X's fight to be considered country. The DePaul University English professor talks to Pop Literacy about what inspired her  book, shares some of her favorite country music memories (like a set visit to Hee Haw!), and recommends some of her favorite country artists to add to your playlists. Rosie O'Donnell is a beloved comedian, celebrated actress, and talk show legend. Despite all these professional accolades, it is perhaps her generosity of spirit, her tireless advocacy on behalf of children and families, and her heartfelt commitment to the health of the American theater that most definitively define her impact on popular culture.Born in Commack, New York on March 21, 1962, Rosie O'Donnell embarked on a career as a standup comedian right out of high school, and in short order found herself enjoying a five show winning streak on the iconic television series, “Star Search” Shortly thereafter, she scored additional major appearances on television, including a regular role as Maggie O'Brien on NBC's popular sitcom, “Gimme a Break” and a high profile run as a VH1 VJIn 1992, Rosie was cast alongside Tom Hanks, Madonna, and Geena Davis in the smash hit “A League of Their Own.” She went on to further success on the big screen, starring in twelve films between 1992 and 1996, including 1993's “Sleepless in Seattle,” 1995's “Now and Then,”and 1996's “Beautiful Girls.”Her most monumental break came by accepting NBC's offer to host a variety daytime television show, “The Rosie O'Donnell Show” in 1996. Rosie's innate love of all things show business and her easy rapport with the celebrities she had grown up idolizing translated into a unique and hugely popular TV phenomenon. “The Rosie O'Donnell Show” ran for six seasons and went on to win a variety of Emmy awards, leaving a memorable mark on American television before ending production in 2002.In the past 20 years, Rosie's dedication to her artistic endeavors and charitable interests have continued unabated. She has been a regular fixture on television, on Broadway, and, in recent years, has gotten rave reviews for her powerful performances in Showtime's “SMILF” and HBO's “I Know This Much is True.” She can currently be seen in the Showtime original series, “American Gigolo.”-bio adapted and edited from Rosie.com

Currently starring as Cinderella in the Broadway revival of “Into The Woods”, Krysta Rodriguez is a talented actor, singer, and dancer with countless Broadway, TV and film credits. As the world starts to adjust to the new normal, she talks about her life and being thrust back on stage in a well-received show, which was completely unexpected for her. Playing the role of Cinderella made her realize that while it's fun to watch a show, it's even more fun to perform because there's “no bottom to it”. She reflects on how said role gives her a fresh perspective of Cinderella, and what the pressures to become a mother means. For Krysta, it was her search for fun that made her come back to acting, and with all her accomplishments and fulfilled dreams, she can still find fulfillment in different ways. Her dream of theatre leads her to her bigger "dream of life", which includes traveling, home design, and having meaningful relationships. From playing iconic people like Liza Minelli to iconic characters like Cinderella, she tries to give a fresh take by finding a lifeline as to how she and these characters are alike. She recalls her "Spring Awakening"days, the impact it has on her, and the bond she formed with the cast, most especially with the Deaf West revival cast, which was also the time she was going through therapy after getting diagnosed with cancer. Krysta opens up about her healing journey, why she decided to go public about it, her blog, ChemoCouture and how it became her form of activism, and personal growth as her number one life motivation. Krysta Rodriguez is a talented actress and singer with countless stage and tv credits under her name. She made her Broadway debut in the short-lived 2005 jukebox musical "Good Vibrations". Later on, she became a replacement for the role of Bebe in the Broadway revival of "A Chorus Line". It's our finest hour and we're never gonna be the same again because we are topping that (unusual for us). We are here with actress, Halloween icon, and “the most popular girl” Robyn Lively. You Might Know Her From Teen Witch, Into the Dark: They Come Knocking, 30 Rock, Cobra Kai, Wildcats, Twin Peaks, Savannah, The Karate Kid Part III, and Through the Glass Darkly. Obviously we got all the scoop from Robyn about headlining cult fave Teen Witch, why it hasn't been revived, why there were musical numbers, the Rita Wilson of it all, and how it translated into a horror-adjacent career for her in later years. We also talked about Robyn sinking her teeth into the role of a smalltown lesbian in the indie Through the Glass Darkly, growing up in a showbiz family and getting emancipated from her parents, donning Tina Fey's wig for the iconic 30 Rock “Reunion” episode, and rubbing elbows with Aaron Spelling. And Fuzzbucket.
