Smartphones have changed the world, but mastering them for storytelling and education is the next big leap. That's why Alison, the world leader in free, certified workplace education, is proud to announce its sponsorship of Mojofest 2025. Mojofest is the leading global event for mobile journalists and digital creators. Mojofest, spearheaded by the visionary Glen Mulcahy, is where the cutting-edge meets the everyday. It proves that with the right skills, anyone can create professional-grade news, learning, and entertainment content using just the technology in their pocket. Speaking about the sponsorship, Mike Feerick, Founder and CEO of Alison, said: "Amazing content for news, learning, and entertainment can be created using smartphones, but how many people truly know how to do this well? If we are ever to fully democratise learning and news, we need more people equipped with the skills to produce original, high-quality content. That's why Alison is delighted to sponsor Mojofest and support the creators and educators who are leading this global movement. Alison graduated over half a million learners in the first quarter of this year alone. That's the power of the internet and the smartphone being harnessed for the right reasons, connecting great content creators with learners". Through this partnership, Alison encourages its publishers worldwide to develop advanced skills in mobile content creation. Alison's continuing goal is to increase both the quality and originality of educational material available to learners everywhere. At NAB, we had an interesting discussion with Glen Mulcahy, the Managing Director of Mojofest, about the development of mobile journalism (mojo). How news stories and more get from happening to you has changed a great deal over the years. S3E16: The nature of storytelling is changing, and to fully embrace this change and attract new audiences, broadcasters need to make greater use of mobile journalism and capitalize on their trusted relationship with their viewers. In the latest episode of season three of the podcast, host Craig Wilson discusses the world of mobile journalism (known as “mojo”) with mobile innovator and pioneer Glen Mulcahy. Our Guest This Episode Glen Mulcahy Glen is an internationally recognized Irish media trainer and technology innovator who's best known for his contributions to the field of mobile journalism. He began his career in media in the mid 1990s, working for the newly launched Irish language TV station TG4. He later joined the Irish national broadcaster, RTÉ, where he worked as a manager in the news technology team before moving to the role of head of innovation. In 2007, Mulcahy became interested in the potential of smartphones for mobile journalism and he later founded the mobile journalism conference, RTÉ MojoCon. The event quickly became a global gathering of journalists, broadcasters, and technologists interested in exploring the possibilities of mobile journalism. After leaving RTÉ in 2017, Mulcahy established MojoFest, a technology and innovation festival that brings together experts from various industries to share insights on the latest developments in the field of mobile journalism and professional content creation. He is regarded as a thought leader and pioneer in the field of mobile innovation and continues to inspire and mentor journalists around the world. “My God, I didn´t know my phone could do that!" Glen Mulcahy still gets this reaction, nearly a decade after he started training journalists in how to tell a story with their smartphone. Glen started a movement: He founded the "Mobile Journalism Conference" (later turned into "MojoFest"). He even left his job as technology lead with the Irish public-service broadcaster RTE to concentrate on bringing mobile journalism to journalists worldwide. "The smartphone poses a chance and a danger to journalism at the same time, the volume of content being produced these days is a gift and a curse, all in one go." "Stop worrying about office space," he tells media companies during the #corona pandemic, "but build a completely mobile eco system." By this, journalism could become the lifeblood of a community again.

Smartphones are a great tool for recording and editing videos, photos and audio. They are permanently connected with the Internet, i.e. with the world. But in newsrooms mobile journalists are still hard to find. A photo here, a video clip there - however, mobile journalists are by no means a fixed part of editorial offices. Not here in Austria and not in other countries. I discussed this contradiction with Glen Mulcahy from Ireland, a professional who has already trained hundreds of journalists to become mobile journalists.

This week my guest will be Glen Mulcahy of Paradigm Sports with a mission to help parents, youth sports coaches and executive members understand the issues in youth sports - and do what we can do to fix them, so we can bring the game back to the kids … where it belongs. To do that, Glen and his group educate coaches, parents and administrators through workshops, presentations and online resources to help keep kids involved in sport well into their adulthood by Developing Leadershttps://www.spreaker.com/show/mtp-dave-briglioAbout Glen: Glen has a knack for seamlessly backing up key concepts with relevant anecdotes and research. You will find Glen’s ideas on ‘kids in sports’ are not only thought provoking, but enjoyable as he communicates with a great sense of passion and humor. His lifetime of multi-sport experience and uncanny ability to connect with his audience & draw them into his story makes Glen a passionate down-to-earth man that is driven to prevent youth from dropping out of organized sports. Glen’s belief in focusing on the fundamentals of the game rather than current game-centric and winning at all costs is both refreshing and inspiring. Now with two youth athletes of his own, Glen is determined to bring the game back to the kids and inspire youth to stay involved in sports not just during teen years, but throughout adulthood as well.In this episode you’ll hear:•The pros and cons of excellence v. specialization•The different communication methods for boys, girls…and millennials•How not to be a kids’ last coach

His lifetime in sports includes honors while playing various team sports including municipal banners as well as provincial titles in Hockey, Football and Rugby. His belief in focusing on transformational long term developmental vs. transactional short term immediate results orientated coaching you will find both refreshing and inspiring. Teach them to love the game. UPDATE on Travel Sports Math & # of Touches: USA Hockey has been implementing 'Cross-Ice' to create more small area games and increase touches My Cringe Moments Glen put both of his hands on a kid's shoulders and was talking to him - the kid was laughing . The kid's parents were watching and thought he was shaking their child and thought the kid was crying. Glen learned that as a coach you are in a fishbowl so be wise with all of your actions. Teaching Skills The curse of knowledge - sometimes it's hard for athletes to remember how to go back and teach the most basic skills. If you have many different skill levels - breaking kids into developmental groups can help all the kids stay challenged. Creative names for the groups helps also: Superman group, Batman group, etc. Mental Toughness/Achieving Peak Performance P&R - Patience & Repetitions Glen had a kid who couldn't understand the concept of offsides, even after 3+ years of coaching. Glen knew the kid played an NHL video game, so Glen asked the kid to turn the Offsides option on while playing the game. The kid did it, and totally understood the concept going forward. Glen saw another coach berate his 13 year-old son for trying a new type of pass, so Glen focuses on encouraging the kids to be aggressive and that mistakes when trying something new are great. Culture – Discipline/Rewards/Teambuilding 3 standards his teams have: 1 - Don't be late 2 - No profanity 3 - Respect each other, your parents, your teammates, your officials, your competitors Rewards - After games the kids go around and compliment something the person next to them did well. MVP - Don't just give MVP rewards to your leading goal scorers, recognize kids doing the dirty work Connecting with and Impacting Kids Glen coached a kid whose father passed away at the beginning of their season, very tough season but the young man really connected with the team and with Glen. The One that got away Seek first to understand. Get to know what makes each kid tick. Glen had a problem whose behavior was really disruptive, and after exploding in a game - they talked in the locker room and Glen found out ...

Glen Mulcahy's first foray into mobile journalism took place in 2010, when he was training video journalists at an event in Budapest. "I took my iPhone 4 and some of the accessories that I had slowly accrued over a few months and I decided to shoot a news package just to see more than anything else," he said.
