Spring has sprung across the podcast sphere and the boys have moved the Gone To The Dogs operation to the front porch where the air is fresh and the conversation flows a little more freely. This episode will be Corey's last for awhile as he and his wife Kayla welcome their second child, another girl, into the Gruver household. It could happen at any time. It's an exciting time for sure and one that will demand a little more of Corey's attention than usual. He'll rejoin the show as soon as things settle down a bit over there in Greenville, PA.In this parting episode, the discussion moves to the winners of the UKC Tournament of Champions briefly before plunging headlong into the interesting realm of multi-purpose hounds. The boys explore every conceivable application of the term from competition versus pleasure dogs to targeting multi-species with the same breed and virtually everything in between. Imagine a dog that you can leave the porch and with which you can catch anything from a gray squirrel to a big ole stinking bear before the sun sets and turn around and hunt nocturnal furbearers with until the first gray streaks of dawn! Corey assumes the host role for a bit to quiz Steve on his recent trip to the UKC Winter Classic, a coonhound event that ranks high on each of their lists of favorite events to attend. Corey is particularly interested in Steve's reaction to his experience as one of three judges in the prestigious Top Ten show held for the past four years in conduction with the February event. Corey served in the same capacity in the early days of the show. When the two friends get together there's never a lack of material to explore and this one fills the bill as expected. You will enjoy the conversation from the standpoint of a couple of guys that have participated in organized coon hunting on both sides of the entry desk. It's a good time as you will see.

We turn back the clock 48 years ago this week for a revisit of one of the most consequential contests in the history of the National Hockey League - with sports historian Ed Gruver ("The Game That Saved the NHL: The Broad Street Bullies. the Soviet Red Machine, and Super Series '76"). The dust jacket of Gruver's new book sums it up thusly: "In late 1975 and early 1976, at the height of the Cold War, two of the Soviet Union's long-dominant national hockey teams traveled to North America to play an eight-game series against the best teams in the National Hockey League. The culmination of the “Super Series” was reigning Soviet League champion HC CSKA Moscow's face-off against the defending NHL champion Flyers in Philadelphia on January 11, 1976. Known as the “Red Army Club,” HC CSKA hadn't lost a game in the series. Known as the “Broad Street Bullies,” the Flyers were determined to bring the Red Army team's winning streak to an end with their trademark aggressive style of play. "Based largely on interviews, Ed Gruver's book tells the story of this epic game and series as it lays out the stakes involved: nothing less than the credibility of the NHL. If the Red Army team had completed its series sweep by defeating the two-time Stanley Cup champion Flyers, the NHL would no longer have been able to claim primacy of place in professional-level hockey. The Stanley Cup, the most famous trophy in sports, would be devalued if the Flyers fell to the Soviets. Gruver also describes how the game and series affected the styles of both Russian and NHL teams. The Soviets adopted a more physical brand of hockey, while the NHL increasingly focused on passing and speed." + + + SPONSOR THANKS: Old School Shirts (promo code: GOODSEATS): https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats BUY/READ EARLY & OFTEN: The Game That Saved the NHL: The Broad Street Bullies. the Soviet Red Machine, and Super Series '76(2024): https://amzn.to/48Mg6UT FIND & FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill Instagram (+ Threads): https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable

From her early days discovering her dual passions for acting and healing, she embraced a nonlinear path that eventually led her to a fulfilling career in holistic well-being. In a world fueled by gadgets, gizmos, and ceaseless connectivity, stress has become a constant companion. Her insights shine a light on the crucial practice of acknowledging stress while mastering our reactions to it. Drawing parallels between stress and our innate fight-or-flight response, she offers guidance on reshaping our narrative and finding balance. Mindfulness emerges as a powerful tool as Kathy shares the teachings of Eckhart Tolle. By embracing the present moment and accepting its essence, we gain the ability to transform our reactions to stressors, fostering positive outcomes. The conversation also navigates through the profound impact of stress on various dimensions of our lives, highlighting its influence on relationships, financial health, and self-image. Kathy delves deeper into the crucial realm of self-awareness, shedding light on how external influences often lead us to relinquish our power to outside authorities. The conversation centers on the foundation of personal growth – introspection. By looking within, we can recognize the signs of stress that manifest physically and behaviorally. The rise of social media and digital distractions, while offering connectivity, has diminished genuine self-awareness. Our host urges listeners to reconnect with the present moment and prioritize their inner well-being over external validation. The concept of internal family systems takes center stage, offering a new lens through which to view our behaviors and reactions. Through relatable examples, the host illustrates how various ego states or "parts" influence our actions. The key lies in understanding and harmonizing these parts for a balanced life. Balancing ego states proves pivotal; embracing the multifaceted aspects of our personalities fosters equilibrium. Kathy shares personal anecdotes that shed light on the intricate nature of ego states, demonstrating how they trigger different behaviors and even alter handwriting. The interaction between these states and their potential to lead to misunderstandings and conflicts is explored. The segment delves into the "self" state, a haven of compassion, calmness, and connection. Staying grounded in the "self" state offers a tool for managing interactions and navigating challenges. Listeners are introduced to practical strategies for recognizing and understanding their ego states. By acknowledging the strengths and weaknesses of each state, individuals can effectively navigate complex situations. The segment concludes with a call for consistent practice and self-compassion, echoing the teachings of Eckhart Tolle in embracing ego states for personal growth and well-being. In the final segment of this enriching podcast, Kathy Gruver and the host explore the path to healing ego states and unlocking our true potential. Healing these aspects leads to reduced reactivity and healthier coping mechanisms, eliminating the need for harmful substances or behaviors. Acknowledging and thanking each ego state, even the seemingly irrational ones, creates a harmonious internal dialogue. Dr. Gruver outlines the process of healing ego states, which involves seeking guidance from coaches or therapists who specialize in this area. Her interactive cards provide a tangible tool for self-exploration, aiding in the separation of positive and potentially detrimental ego states. By understanding the origins and underlying needs of these states, individuals can gradually heal and integrate them. Trauma, both big and small, plays a significant role in shaping ego states. Dr. Gruver emphasizes that everyone has experienced moments of trauma that contribute to these states' formation. The journey of healing involves revisiting these moments and addressing the unmet needs of these parts. Listeners are provided with valuable resources to connect with Kathy Gruver, offering coaching, workshops, and motivational speaking to guide individuals on their journey to healing and self-awareness. Her upcoming book, "Just Be Yourself: Using Ego States," promises practical insights for navigating life's challenges. As the episode draws to a close, the hosts reflect on the challenges of staying present and practicing self-compassion. Integrating ego state work into daily life holds the potential for profound personal growth and a more fulfilling existence. The transformative power of embracing ego states resonates, encouraging listeners to embark on their own transformative journeys of self-discovery and holistic well-being. In summary, this podcast episode featuring Kathy Gruver takes listeners on a profound journey of self-awareness, stress management, and personal growth. Steve invited Corey Gruver back to the Gone To The Dogs microphone, after a recent guest appearance, and the two seasoned contributors tackle the question, “Are coon hunting magazines relevant today?” Gruver will be working with the revived publication and reveals some of the mission planned for the periodical going forward. The discussion begins with news of Gruver's newest project, training his first Plott female. Steve's experience with the breed spanning seventy years, and Gruver's recent experiences including treeing a black bear, make for interesting banter involving the brindle breed. Steve finishes the episode by sharing an article his father, Homon Fielder had published in Full Cry in 1971, fifty-two years ago. There's something for everyone in this episode and especially purists that thrill to the sound of the pack at full cry.

In this episode Steve talks with Corey Gruver of Greenville, Pennsylvania. Steve and Corey have a common denominator in their backgrounds, each having worked for United Kennel Club, the recognized chief registry of coonhounds worldwide. Furthermore, each worked with coonhounds and coonhound activities in what is now the Hunting Ops Department. Steve became interested in having Corey share the Gone To The Dogs microphone as he recognized Gruver's wide interest in several breeds and combinations of breeds of tree dogs. Steve wanted to, and does, explore the reasons his guest has chosen to enjoy several breeds instead of being a single-breed hunter as most are. While at UKC Gruver wrote several articles that piqued Steve's interest as well convincing the host that his guest would be an interesting speaker and he certainly doesn't disappoint. He's a very interesting guy and has no difficulty expressing himself on several subjects of interest to listeners of this podcast. Sit back and spend a couple of hours with Corey and you'll readily see why Steve invited him to join the impressive list of hunters that have shared the Gone To The Dogs Podcast microphone with the old coon hunter.
