The podcast which you are about to hear is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of four co-hosts, in particular Daniel Caffrey, Rachel Reeves, Justin Gerber, and the obnoxious Michael Roffman. It is all the more tragic in that they were young. But, had, they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much mad and macabre as they were to record that day. For them an idyllic autumn afternoon conversation became a nightmare. The events of that day were to lead to the discovery of one of the most bizarre crimes in the annal of American history: The Halloweenies covering Tobe Hooper's 1974 horror masterpiece The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Molly Brown and Alex Gravatt hold it down for Hour 1 until Matt joins from his spot under the stairs at the AirBnB in Red Deer, Alberta. Molly and Alex G get personal on this Halloween, discussing their deepest darkest irrational fears... Molly discusses why she is afraid that, given Jordan Love's erratic play when healthy-ish this season, he won't be good enough to beat the Lions if he's anything less than 100% healthy. Is Alex G fully bought on the upside of Love even if he's not healthy versus the safe backup of Malik Willis? Also, why is Molly afraid of being murdered at a haunted house and what is Alex G's fear/fascination with the ocean? What are the best Halloween party and trick-or-treating traditions, what are the most irrational holiday fears, and did Primetime dress up as a serial killer for Halloween, or is this just how he dresses every day...? They wrap up Hour 1 with the High Life Dive Bar of the week, featuring the Nitty Gritty in Middleton (the birthday place of the greater Madison area right on the eve of Alex G's birth month)!

It's our final Halloween episode of 2024, and you shouldn't be surprised by our choice. We couldn't wrap up the season without revisiting Wellsville for one of the greatest Halloween episodes in television history, “Halloweenie” from The Adventures of Pete & Pete. It's quintessentially Pete & Pete, which means it's quintessentially 90s and quintessentially Jersey, all while remaining totally weird and wholly unique. We talk Mischief-Devil's-Cabbage-Goosey Night, neighborhood bullies, breaking records, and that moment of being right on the edge of too old for something you used to love.Next week, we're sticking with the 90s theme but moving to a new genre, as we watch Kim's Video, a 2023 documentary that explores what happened to one of the world's greatest VHS collections when it moved from New York City to Sicily.Follow:The Watchers on Instagram (@WatchersPodNJ)Andrea on Instagram (@AQAndreaQ)Jodie on Instagram (@jodie_mim)Our sister show, New Jersey Is the World, on Instagram (@newjerseyistheworld)Thanks to Kitzy (@heykitzy) for the use of our theme song, "No Book Club."

“But, have you played lesbian multiple times!?” We're journalists, kids. And we're here with the one and only Beth Broderick. Zelda Spellman on Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the specialness of reprising that role in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina 18 years later. We also got to discuss her working relationships with everyone from Marc Cherry to Brad Pitt to her Psycho Beach Party co-star Charles Busch; the wild ride that was the notorious The Bonfire of The Vanities (how tall is Bruce Willis, really?), and how her AIDS activism has connected her to the LGBT community. The Halloweenies continue a new October tradition! Last year, Michael Roffman and Dan Caffrey ventured to the Haddonfield Public Library to read Curtis Richards' excellent 1979 screen-to-page adaptation of the John Carpenter original Halloween. Fortunately for them, for us, for you, there are several more novelizations, and they're going through 'em all. This year sees the two dust off Dennis Etchison/Jack Martin's 1981 novelization for Halloween II. Together, they discuss Etchison's writing style, the additional scenes, the dreams of Laurie Strode, and more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

So, take a last-minute summer trip out to Winter River, Connecticut, where the gang debates whether or not this is Burton's best movie, revisit first crushes, gush over Danny Elfman's iconic score, argue whether this is Michael Keaton's performance, and, of course, chew on the sequel that may or may not be a bad idea. Strange Darling hits theaters this weekend -- and it's a good one. The latest export from writer-filmmaker J.T. Mollner shuffles an athletic cat-and-mouse story between stars Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner that feels both in and out of time. It's gritty, it's unpredictable, and it's paralyzing, doling out the narrative like a descendent of Tarantino's style. But this isn't an homage; it's an extension on familiar forms. Today, Halloweenies co-host and executive producer Michael Roffman speaks with the maestro behind the madness to discuss his own filmmaking DNA and how he's been carving his own signature. They also shoot the shit on favorite Westerns and why that genre may be a prism for filmmaking. Rest assured, there are no spoilers ahead. Learn more about your ad choices.
