Ghostface is back. Sidney Prescott is back. Kevin Williamson — the writer who started it all in 1996 — is back, this time in the director's chair. And The Film Board is here to pick through the wreckage.Pete Wright convenes the panel — Tommy Metz III, Steve Sarmento, and Mandy Kaplan — for a full-spoiler autopsy of Scream 7, the franchise's seventh installment and its most complicated origin story yet. The film arrives trailing the collapse of a whole other movie: Melissa Barrera's firing, Jenna Ortega's departure, two directors exiting before a frame was shot, and Neve Campbell finally getting what she was owed to come back. What ended up on screen bears those scars — and the panel doesn't look away from them. There's plenty to argue about. Tommy arrives as the franchise's longest-tenured Film Board voice and delivers his most critical take yet — the kills are flat, the villain reveal is the weakest in franchise history, and the AI deepfake conceit is nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. Steve, against form, finds himself in the film's corner: the Sidney-Tatum mother-daughter dynamic gives him something real to hold onto, and he'll take that over clever-but-hollow any day. Mandy had a genuinely good time, found Anna Camp's casting as transparent as a freshly-cleaned window, and would very much like Tatum's next chapter to be a musical. Pete sits somewhere in the middle — glad to have Kevin Williamson back, troubled by what he had to work with, and still thinking about the better movie that never got made. They get into the production chaos, the Barrera-shaped hole in the script, the question of whether the AI angle says anything worth saying, the correct use of a panic room, the mystery of a certain line reading, and whether Scream 7 has dethroned Scream 3 at the bottom of the franchise pile.

We start with the critically acclaimed Brazilian thriller The Secret Agent. Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, it stars the brilliant Wagner Moura as a man on the run navigating the heights of Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1970s. It's a masterclass in tension and atmosphere.Fun Flix Fact: To achieve its stunning, retro look, the film was shot in anamorphic Panavision, the same format used for 1970s classics. The director even included a "two-faced cat" as an omen—a nod to Brazil's own dual reality of the past and the future. The Ghostface mask is back! We're reviewing the latest instalment of the legendary slasher franchise. Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott, and this time, the stakes are personal as her daughter becomes the target.Fun Flix Fact: This is the first film in the entire franchise to be directed by Kevin Williamson, the man who actually wrote the original Scream (1996)! After 30 years of producing and writing, he finally stepped behind the camera to bring the Woodsboro story full circle. Finally for our main reviews, we're heading to the 19th-century Caribbean for The Bluff. Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays a woman with a secret past who must protect her family when vicious buccaneers (led by a terrifying Karl Urban) invade her island.Fun Flix Fact: Priyanka Chopra Jonas performed a massive amount of her own stunts for this film. Drawing on her extensive background in Bollywood action cinema, she reportedly surprised the stunt team with her "hard-hitting physicality" during the brutal home-invasion sequences. To tie into the political intrigue of The Secret Agent, we're celebrating 20 years of the film that earned Forest Whitaker his well-deserved Oscar. We revisit the terrifying regime of Idi Amin through the eyes of his personal Scottish doctor (James McAvoy).Fun Flix Fact: Forest Whitaker was so dedicated to the role that he stayed in character as Idi Amin even when the cameras weren't rolling. He learned to play the accordion, mastered the Ugandan accent, and even met with Amin's real-life brother and former cabinet members to perfect the performance. For this week's Hidden Gem, we're recommending the epic historical musical The Testament of Ann Lee. Amanda Seyfried stars as the founding leader of the Shakers in 18th-century Manchester and America.Fun Flix Fact: This is a rare breed—a "historical musical" shot on 70mm film! It features more than a dozen traditional Shaker hymns reimagined as rapturous musical numbers. If you loved Amanda in Les Misérables, you absolutely cannot miss her powerhouse vocals here. And if that's not enough entertainment for you, we've even thrown in new trailers to watch and what you can catch on streaming. Mike and Kelsey are back to recap the Best and Worst Movies of February. Mike shares why he feels personally bad for his worst pic of the month after meeting one of the main actors from the film. Mike and Kelsey also share how they got busted at the movies when going to see Wuthering Heights. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about Scream 7. When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target. Mike talks about why this movie was hard to watch, the awful Ghost Face Mask and if it’s time to kill this franchise. In the Trailer Park, Mike gives his thoughts on Toy Story 5. Everyone’s favorite toys will have to team up once again. This time they’ll need to work together to save Bonnie from her Lilypad smart tablet as screens take over childhood. It's all come to this! This week on Forgotten Cinema: Now Showing, the Mikes finally arrive at "Scream 7", the final destination after their long Scream Lead Up series.Unlike many critics, Mike Butler and Mike Field had a great time with this entry. Is it the best Scream film? No. Is it the worst? Also no. And as the Mikes point out, even the weakest Scream is still leagues above most other slashers and basic horror films.Sidney Prescott remains a strong anchor for the franchise, and the film delivers with some very effective kills. The Mikes also dig into some of the film's bigger talking points, including the return of Stu, whether audiences can fully buy Joel McHale as a serious action presence after his long comedy career, and how the killer reveal works within the story. With the new installment now in the books, Butler and Field also update their full franchise rankings after completing their journey through every Scream film leading up to this release. For anyone jumping in with this episode, the Mikes encourage you to go back and check out the full Lead Up series as they revisited the entire franchise step by step. After all the blood, meta commentary, and Ghostface mayhem, the question remains. Where does "Scream 7" truly land in the legacy of the series?Thank you for joining the Mikes through each film in the "Scream" saga! What are your theories for Scream 8? Let us know in the comments!

Synopsis Sidney Prescott is now a mother of a teen girl her age during the first film learns that another Ghostface copycat is afoot. When she gets her first call from the killer it's revealed that it might be an old friend, or perhaps a deepfake. It doesn't matter, we still get the nostalgia. Then pretty much everything that you expect happens: teens get killed, everyone is suspect, and the killer is finally revealed. You've seen one of these before, right? Review of Scream 7 As with all the Scream movies, this is a competent slasher. It remains visceral and mean, but this one lacks the fun and meta horror movie commentary that the originals had. Sidney Prescott as a mother is a compelling character, even if it feels like a bit of a retread of Halloween 2018. Unlike Halloween, Sidney seems like a real person that is trying to move on and raise her daughter. The first reveal of the killer is surprising enough and is explained through a semi convincing retconn, but comes too early for it to be trusted completely. So there remains enough doubt as to the killer and especially their accomplice to maintain the whodunnit aspect. Kevin Williamson, the original writer of Scream and countless other early 2000s classics, directs this episode. His only other directing credit is “Teaching Mrs. Tingle” a forgettable dark comedy thriller in 1999. He does fine here, although most directors could do one of these movies on autopilot. There isn't much added flair, he just gives you what you want: tension and jumpscares. Overall, it's alright, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a good time, but I can't say that the movie makes a case for more Scream movies. Score 5/10

It's Friday, which means 5-Star Movie Reviews with Andy Peth, joined by Luke Cashman and Ashly Carter — and this hour did not disappoint. At 11:07, Andy dives into K-Pops, starring Anderson .Paak. Is it a heartfelt father-son redemption story wrapped in vibrant K-pop spectacle… or an overlong vanity project? Andy praises the chemistry, cultural fusion, and music, but ultimately says weak writing and poor editing sink it. His verdict? Quality: 1½ stars | Political: 3 | Moral/Religious: 3. Would you spend your money on it — or stream something else? Then at 27:35, it's Scream 7. Can Neve Campbell's return as Sidney Prescott revive the franchise? Andy likes the aging “final girl” angle and the warning about AI deception — but says the second half collapses with laughable reveals and unrealistic kills. Final score: Quality: 1 star | Political: 3½ | Moral/Religious: 3. Is this horror sequel suspenseful… or unintentionally hilarious? If you love sharp takes, bold ratings, and zero sugarcoating, Andy Peth brings it. Want to know which film he says is actually worth your time? You'll have to listen. HOUR 2 Guest host Andy Peth, joined by Luke Cashman and Ashly Carter, turns Hour 2 into a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud showdown: movies with one-word titles. Sounds simple? Think again. From Taken and the debate over whether “fun” equals “good,” to rapid-fire classics like Casablanca, Jaws, Gladiator, Parasite, Titanic, Psycho, and Hereditary, the crew blends nostalgia, trivia, and sharp cultural commentary. Which trilogy would you binge back-to-back—Star Wars, Avatar, The Matrix, Nolan's Batman? And what makes a single word—Alien, Rebecca, Deliverance, Mulan, Ghostbusters—so powerful it defines a generation? Callers jump in with deep cuts and curveballs (Zardoz, Rollerball, Sharknado), while the hosts trade iconic quotes and debate horror films that are “tough watches.” Is Aliens better than Alien? Did Jaws change human behavior forever? And which movie moment still gives you chills? It's part trivia battle, part film school, part comedy roast—proving that sometimes one word is all you need.

Scream 7 is upon us and it seems to have split not just the Cast Me To Hell boys but the horror community as a whole! Marred by production controversy and massive rewrites, scream 7 sees the return of Neve Campbell as the iconic final girl Sidney Prescott as her attempts to live a normal life and move on from her past see not only herself but her family become the victim of a new Ghostface. There's increased gore and more bodies to pile up in a film that has already seen box office success and divided opinions. But what do we think? This week on Forgotten Cinema, the Mikes wrap up their Scream Lead Up series with "Scream VI", the final stop before diving into "Scream 7".Both Mike Butler and Mike Field still like this entry, but it stands as the weakest of the franchise so far in their rankings. A big part of that comes from the absence of Sidney Prescott and the somewhat awkward shoehorning of Gale into the story. The film also lacks the sharp meta commentary that defines the series, and the villain reveal and finale lean heavily into goofiness rather than tension. That said, "Scream VI" is still a good time. The kills are strong, the set pieces are memorable, and several sequences stand out, including the Gale versus Ghostface showdown and the tense Halloween subway ride. Melissa Barrera continues to grow into the role of Sam, delivering one of the stronger performances of the new era. With the Lead Up complete, the Mikes also rank the franchise so far and reflect on where the series stands heading into its next chapter. Even if "Scream VI" doesn't reach the heights of its predecessors, it proves the franchise still knows how to entertain. So join the Mikes as the go through each film in the "Scream" saga leading up to the release of "Scream 7".What are Scream rankings? Let us know in the comments!
For this week's main podcast review, Katie Johnson, Dan Bayer, and Aaron Isenstein join me to discuss the latest film in the "Scream" franchise, "Scream 7" with Neve Campbell, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Courteney Cox reprising their roles from the previous films, and Isabel May, Anna Camp, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Celeste O'Connor, Sam Rechner, Mark Consuelos, Tim Simons, and Joel McHale also starring. Following the exit of "Scream" (2022) and "Scream VI" directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett in August 2023, Christopher Landon was hired to direct the film. However, the film underwent creative retooling after the firing of star Melissa Barrera and the departure of Jenna Ortega in late 2023, with Landon also leaving the project. In March 2024, Campbell confirmed her return to the franchise after being absent from the last film, with series creator Kevin Williamson hired to direct the film after serving as writer and producer on the early films in the series. This latest entry follows a new Ghostface killer who targets Sidney Prescott's daughter. After all the controversy surrounding its production, what did we think of the final product? Tune in as we discuss the story, its use of legacy characters, its themes of AI technology and generational trauma, the brutal kills, the franchise's future, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. You know the drill: Someone dressing up as the masked slasher Ghostface comes for her, her family and friends. Nailing the coffin shut on Franchise February, we make our way back to a beloved series to see how it's aged. The answer? Better than most of Sidney Prescott's friends and family but honestly, that's not too hard because most of them end up skewered. SCREAM 4 (2011) was such a step up from its predecessor that some of us may have been blind to its missteps but it's still got some charm to it. Jordan and Delroy Lindo. Plus, Neve Campbell joins the show to celebrate her return as Sidney Prescott in 'Scream 7,' reflecting on reuniting with her original castmates and why the character still resonates nearly 30 years later.
