American artist Introspekt (@sageintrospekt) has a sound rooted in the darker side of UKG but comes at it from a unique perspective that incorporates elements of US garage and ballroom. The LA-born, NYC-based talent has now made her mark in Europe as a DJ and a producer on labels like Eris Drew and Octo Octa's T4T LUV NRG. Her style blends heavy basslines, diva vocals and well-crafted broken beats into something that harks back to the sounds that once came out of the likes of Paradise Garage and Club Zanzibar, always with a focus on bringing up her own community. She says that the idea behind this week's mix was "to take the listener on a journey through tech-garage sonics and intergalactic dancehall rhythms." Tracks of her own and those from Skream, Holloway, Hatcha, Phuturistix and many more all plot a line through earth-shatteringly heavy rhythms from across the past, present and future of garage, dubstep and bass. It's a mix aimed at both body and head from this formidable talent and is a great taste of what to expect from her when she plays Dekmantel Festival later in the year.

Well, Croydon dubstep star Benga doesn’t have to imagine: that is his life. This year he drops his debut album proper for Tempa, provisionally entitled “Diary of an Afro Warrior,” after the mighty mane that sprouts from his head. “If I cut my afro off, I’d have to start again musically,” laughs Benga. Aside from the best haircut in dubstep, Benga has a lot to be happy about. At 15 he released his debut 12” “Skank/Dose” on one of dubstep’s founding imprints, Big Apple. A&Red by one of the most influential DJs in dubstep, DJ Hatcha, the label was run out of the Croydon shop of the same name, the hangout for much of the early pioneers and future stars such as Artwork, Horsepower, Hatcha, Chef, Plastician and Skream.

A philosophy major and psychoanalysis minor at Colorado College, Ethan Baer is the mastermind behind one of the world’s most prolific electronic music publications, EDM.com, and labels, Artist Intelligence Agency. In college, Baer DJ’d and ran a blog called SubSynthesis, which turned into Dubstep.NET and eventually branched into other genres, including House.NET, TrapMusic.NET, Electro.NET, etc. At the height of the “EDM movement” in 2013, the EDM.com was purchased, and Baer consolidated the aforementioned sites into one property. During SoundCloud’s peak, the EDM.com network boasted over 7 million followers and generated more than 100 million streams per month for artists around the globe.
