Well its finally here WooHoo! *DJAYP* How many artists / producers can count Jay Z, Snoop Dogg and Pharell as fans as well as drum and bass' finest Andy C, Hype and Pendulum; enjoy heavy rotation in the hands of dub-step royalty such as N-Type and Skream; and have each release enthusiastically supported by Annie Mac and Zane Lowe? This is what Saul Milton and Will Kennard, producing under the name Chase & Status, have achieved in 5 years, and the highlight of their young career so far has been their debut LP ‘More Than Alot' which has helped turned them into a unique urban phenomenon, and the biggest crossover act to come out of the underground since Pendulum. They met at Manchester University through their mutual love of drum and bass in the mid nineties and have DJ'd ever since, waiting until 2004 for their first production, a remix for Future Cut (better known these days for their production work with Lily Allen). It was followed by a series of drum and bass anthems for the biggest underground labels including ‘Duppy Man' for Breakbeat Kaos (home of Pendulum's platinum selling debut album) in 2005 and ‘The Druids' EP for DJ Zinc's trendsetting Bingo label a year later. Their production work for Jenna G's ‘In Love' the same year earned them their first award, ‘Best Single', as voted by over 40,000 listeners for the BBC 1Xtra Drum & Bass Awards. Despite a high volume of releases on Ram Records and constant DJ work, Chase & Status managed to mastermind and release their debut album last year. Packed with the kind of drum and bass anthems that helped build their reputation, it also features tracks which show the diversity of their work: such as ‘Pieces' featuring Plan B and the Radio 1 A-List single ‘Against All Odds' featuring Kano. The result of the album is a thrilling journey through the UK urban scene and deserves its great title: ‘More Than Alot'. One track from the album ‘Eastern Jam' was recently spotted by Snoop Dogg and newly released in April 2009 as ‘Snoop Dogg Millionaire'. Chase & Status have recently been hailed as ‘The most exciting producers in the UK today' by Pharell Williams of N*E*R*D fame, and the excitement around the pair doesn't stop there. Abstract: Presynaptic N-type (CaV2.2) calcium channels are key for action potential evoked transmitter release in the peripheral and central nervous system. Previous studies have highlighted the functional relevance of N-type calcium channels at both the peripheral and central level. In the periphery, the N-type calcium channels regulate nociceptive and sympathetic responses. At the central level, N-type calcium channels have been linked to aggression, hyperlocomotion, and anxiety. Among the areas of the brain that are involved in anxiety are the basolateral amygdala, medial prefrontal cortex, and ventral hippocampus. These three areas share similar characteristics in their neuronal circuitry. Pyramidal projection neurons are under the inhibitory control of a wide array of interneurons including those that express the peptide cholecystokinin. This type of interneuron is well-known to rely on N-type calcium channels to release GABA in the hippocampus, however whether these channels control GABA release from cholecystokinin-expressing interneurons in the basolateral amygdala and medial prefrontal cortex is not known. Here using sophisticated mouse models to genetically label cholecystokinin-expressing interneurons, we found that N-type calcium channels control ~50% of GABA release in basolateral amygdala. By contrast, N-type calcium channels are functionally absent in synapses of cholecystokinin-expressing interneurons of medial prefrontal cortex. Our findings provide insights into the precise localization of N-type calcium channels in synapses of brain areas related to anxiety. Copy rights belong to original authors. Twenty-three year old music producer, Ryan Meblin, has been tearing down the walls surrounding conventional bass music since early 2008, when he and a former bandmate formed the internationally recognized dubstep duo known as NTRLD. From 2008-2010, the two continued to produce chart-topping singles and official remixes for major label artists including Far East Movement (Interscope), Dev (Universal), and Major Lazer (Downtown/Mad Decent). Following the split of NTRLD, Meblin adopted a new moniker, Carrier, and began to reinvent himself as an eclectic producer with a long career ahead of him. With his first official remix of Dev's hit single "Bass Down Low" hitting the blogosphere at an unexpected 100BPM, fans of Carrier's early work knew immediately that his sound was evolving. Later that month, he released his official drumstep remix of Vaski's "Spaceman" alongside Dillon Francis and Total Recall on Play Me Too Records. Within a week, Carrier's drumstep remix rose to #12 on Beatport's drum and bass chart. Less than one year later, Carrier now has a handful of releases under his belt, and two forthcoming EPs coming out in late 2011. He has consistently given away material to his fans for free via the internet, and never intends to stop rewarding them for their incredible support. In less than four years of DJing professionally, Carrier has been blessed enough to share the stage with some of bass music's biggest legends, including Noisia, Andy C, Goldie, Subfocus, N-Type, Bassnectar, Freq Nasty, Nadastrom, Antiserum, SPL, Ill Gates, Borgore, 12th Planet, Sluggo, J. Rabbit, 6Blocc, and Reid Speed. Their mainly bass driven music bounces from Electro to Dubstep and all styles in between. The featured mix is showcasing a selection of tracks produced by the artists in the starting line up of the recently launched Get Hype Collective. The Get Hype Collective is : Jeuce / Jeuce Joyriders (myspace.com) - Making a name for themselves as an Electro/Dubstep Live Act, Remix Artists and DJ’s; Jeuce have recently received Radio One airplay, and released a string of Official Remixes for the likes of Ladytron, Hadouken!, Ellie Goulding and more. Toast (myspace.com) – A Dubstep duo with a creative blend of off the wall bass lines and out of the box samples, giving the Dubstep scene a twist of originality. Their tunes have being tearing up dancefloors around the UK and been turning the heads of artists such as Raffertie and N-Type. Yoghurt Warrior / DJ Sharkbait (yoghurtwarrior.blogspot.com) – A Clothing Label, aiming to capture the slime, grit and grime of the underground music scene, whilst playing a range of bass heavy music behind the decks. His designs are being worn by the likes of Rusko, Annie Mac, Skream and many more; they are rapidly becoming the new face of the underground. Pond Life (myspace.com) – A Producer with an experimental style floating somewhere between Dubstep and 4X4 Beats, gaining much popularity with his warped and robotic bass sounds. Pond life has just signed a record release deal with NYC dubstep label, Coat Of Arms. Dave Verne (onlyfoolsandbeelines.blogspot.com) – Bringing fresh city beats to suburban areas as an up and coming DJ and Clubnight Promoter.
